What really works in special and inclusive education : using evidence-based teaching strategies.

En este manual se presentan una serie de estrategias que los educadores pueden implementar en el aula con alumnos con necesidades educativas especiales, con el objetivo de ayudarles a tener un aprendizaje de calidad y buenos resultados sociales. Cada una de las veinticuatro estrategias incluidas en el manual tiene una base sustancial de investigación, una justificación teórica, directrices prácticas sobre cómo puede emplearse, así como consejos sobre su uso. Si bien el libro se centra en alumnos con necesidades educativas especiales, la mayor parte de las estrategias son aplicables a todos los alumnos.

This descriptive study aims at determining the most widely used reading instructional practices that are used by teachers of the deaf in oral deaf education schools.

Evidence-based psychological therapies: from bench to bedside

Patients with mental health difficulties do not always receive appropriate and recommended psychological treatment for their difficulties, and clinicians are not always appropriately trained to deliver them. This paper considers why this might be the case and provides an overview of the Charlie Waller Institute, a not-for-profit organisation funded by the NHS, University of Reading, and the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. The Institute seeks to address this problem by training clinicians in wide variety of evidence-based therapies and assessing the impact of this training on clinician knowledge and skill.

‘NSC 68 and the Soviet Threat: A New Perspective on Western Threat Perception and Policy Making’

It has been argued that the US strategy paper NSC 68 of 1950 which ushered in the great Cold War rearmament process first in the US and then in NATO was a vast overreaction. This paper argues, by contrast, that given the intelligence about the Soviet Union's and its satellites' military buildup and the role of China in that period, this was a reasonable strategy to embrace.

‘Modern Man’s Myths: The Influence of Historical Memory on Policy-Making’

Historical events are interpreted by collectivities in ways that are then instrumentalised in policy-making processes. This creates mythical "truths" and "rules of conduct" which in 20th (21st) century Western civilisations are not much different from those of pre-Enlightenment societies.
