Resumo:
The bending of simply supported composite plates is analyzed using a direct collocation meshless numerical method. In order to optimize node distribution the Direct MultiSearch (DMS) for multi-objective optimization method is applied. In addition, the method optimizes the shape parameter in radial basis functions. The optimization algorithm was able to find good solutions for a large variety of nodes distribution.

In recent papers, the authors obtained formulas for directional derivatives of all orders, of the immanant and of the m-th xi-symmetric tensor power of an operator and a matrix, when xi is a character of the full symmetric group. The operator norm of these derivatives was also calculated. In this paper, similar results are established for generalized matrix functions and for every symmetric tensor power.

As it is widely known, in structural dynamic applications, ranging from structural coupling to model updating, the incompatibility between measured and simulated data is inevitable, due to the problem of coordinate incompleteness. Usually, the experimental data from conventional vibration testing is collected at a few translational degrees of freedom (DOF) due to applied forces, using hammer or shaker exciters, over a limited frequency range. Hence, one can only measure a portion of the receptance matrix, few columns, related to the forced DOFs, and rows, related to the measured DOFs. In contrast, by finite element modeling, one can obtain a full data set, both in terms of DOFs and identified modes. Over the years, several model reduction techniques have been proposed, as well as data expansion ones. However, the latter are significantly fewer and the demand for efficient techniques is still an issue. In this work, one proposes a technique for expanding measured frequency response functions (FRF) over the entire set of DOFs. This technique is based upon a modified Kidder's method and the principle of reciprocity, and it avoids the need for modal identification, as it uses the measured FRFs directly. In order to illustrate the performance of the proposed technique, a set of simulated experimental translational FRFs is taken as reference to estimate rotational FRFs, including those that are due to applied moments.

This paper presents a methodology for multi-objective day-ahead energy resource scheduling for smart grids considering intensive use of distributed generation and Vehicle- To-Grid (V2G). The main focus is the application of weighted Pareto to a multi-objective parallel particle swarm approach aiming to solve the dual-objective V2G scheduling: minimizing total operation costs and maximizing V2G income. A realistic mathematical formulation, considering the network constraints and V2G charging and discharging efficiencies is presented and parallel computing is applied to the Pareto weights. AC power flow calculation is included in the metaheuristics approach to allow taking into account the network constraints. A case study with a 33-bus distribution network and 1800 V2G resources is used to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

The aim of this contribution is to extend the techniques of composite materials design to non-linear material behaviour and apply it for design of new materials for passive vibration control. As a first step a computational tool allowing determination of macroscopic optimized one-dimensional isolator behaviour was developed. Voigt, Maxwell, standard and more complex material models can be implemented. Objective function considers minimization of the initial reaction and/or displacement peak as well as minimization of the steady-state amplitude of reaction and/or displacement. The complex stiffness approach is used to formulate the governing equations in an efficient way. Material stiffness parameters are assumed as non-linear functions of the displacement. The numerical solution is performed in the complex space. The steady-state solution in the complex space is obtained by an iterative process based on the shooting method which imposes the conditions of periodicity with respect to the known value of the period. Extension of the shooting method to the complex space is presented and verified. Non-linear behaviour of material parameters is then optimized by generic probabilistic meta-algorithm, simulated annealing. Dependence of the global optimum on several combinations of leading parameters of the simulated annealing procedure, like neighbourhood definition and annealing schedule, is also studied and analyzed. Procedure is programmed in MATLAB environment.

This paper addresses limit cycles and signal propagation in dynamical systems with backlash. The study follows the describing function (DF) method for approximate analysis of nonlinearities and generalizes it in the perspective of the fractional calculus. The concept of fractional order describing function (FDF) is illustrated and the results for several numerical experiments are analysed. FDF leads to a novel viewpoint for limit cycle signal propagation as time-space waves within system structure.

The aim of this study was to analyze the efficacy of cognitive-motor dual-task training compared with single-task training on balance and executive functions in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Fifteen subjects, aged between 39 and 75 years old, were randomly assigned to the dual-task training group (n = 8) and single-task training group (n = 7). The training was run twice a week for 6 weeks. The single-task group received balance training and the dual-task group performed cognitive tasks simultaneously with the balance training. There were no significant differences between the two groups at baseline. After the intervention, the results for mediolateral sway with eyes closed were significantly better for the dual-task group and anteroposterior sway with eyes closed was significantly better for the single-task group. The results suggest superior outcomes for the dual-task training compared to the single-task training for static postural control, except in anteroposterior sway with eyes closed.

RESUMO - Pretende-se com este projecto fazer uma reflexão sobre a problemática dos modelos de governação na gestão pública de hospitais e sobre a forma de incrementar a capacidade estratégica da gestão, contextualizando a governação dos hospitais num quadro mais amplo e comunitário, integrando os interesses e expectativas dos diversos interessados no funcionamento dos hospitais públicos. Sinteticamente, a questão fundamental de investigação é: Como conseguirá o sistema de governação de um hospital público incorporar os interesses de todos os seus stakeholders e shareholders? A resposta a esta questão integra duas fases, uma primeira dedicada ao estudo de um novo modelo de configuração para o órgão de governação de topo do hospital público e uma segunda fase dedicada à construção de um questionário para discussão e validação do modelo proposto através da técnica Delphi. A metodologia utilizada passou pela condução prévia de entrevistas exploratórias a informadores privilegiados e pela divisão do projecto em duas partes – uma primeira parte de enquadramento que segue a metodologia clássica da revisão bibliográfica e uma segunda parte prática que segue a metodologia Delphi, precedida de um levantamento das questões críticas para integrar no questionário que servirá de base à discussão dos peritos. Como resultado, o actual modelo pareceu-nos dificultar a consideração das expectativas e dos interesses dos proprietários/accionistas e dos stakeholders em geral do hospital público, concluindo-se pela necessidade de um novo modelo que estabeleça, inequivocamente, os papéis e as funções inerentes ao órgão de governação, garantindo a internalização da perspectiva de todos os interessados. -------------------------------ABSTRACT - The objective of this project is to reflect on the problematic of models of governance in the public management of hospitals and on the means for incrementing strategic management capacity. It does so by contextualizing the governance of public hospitals on a more ample community–wide scale, integrating the interests and expectations of different parties. The main research question is: how can the system of governance of a public hospital incorporate the interests of all its stakeholders and shareholders? The answer to this question involves two phases, one dedicated to the study of the configuration of the top-level governing body of the public hospital and, a second, dedicated to the construction of a questionnaire for discussion and validation of the proposed model by means of a Delphi technique. The methodology involved, first of all, exploratory interviews with key- informants and by the structuring of the project in two parts – the first, dedicated to contextualization by means of a standard literature review and the second, essentially practical by means of the Delphi technique, preceded by the raising of critical questions that integrate the questionnaire that will form the basis of expert discussion. The present model of public hospital governance appears to limit the possibility of integrating the expectations and interests of stakeholders and owner/shareholders. It is concluded that a new model is needed, one that establishes unequivocally the roles and functions of the top- level governing body, thereby
