The construct Technology Readiness (TR) and its instrument of measure Technology Readiness Index (TRI) defined by Parasuraman (2000), refer to people¿s propensity to adopt digital technological products and services. The TR can be viewed as an overall state of mind resulting from mental drivers and inhibitors related to optimism, innovativeness, discomfort and insecurity. These facets combine into a complex way for produce distinct groups of individuals (explorers, pioneers, skeptics, paranoids and laggards) with different traits of behaviors connected to the adoption of technological products and service. This study had as its objective to evaluate the applicability of the TRI in the Brazilian context, through the replication of the scale on a sample of 336 adults consumers (168 men and 168 women) resident in the state of the Rio de Janeiro, segmented by age groups, educational level and monthly family income. The results show that, in the sample analyzed, as culturally the technology is linked to values of a male society, men presented a higher propensity in adopting technological products and services than women. However, this hypothesis was not confirmed in the analysis segmented by age groups.

Inicia-se o trabalho, reconstituindo-se, sob um ponto de vista histórico, o problema do dualismo e do monismo, na Psicologia. A reconstituição é feita partindo-se de uma origem situada em Sócrates e, dai, desenvolvendo-se até os dias atuais, onde, demonstra-se, a questão permanece. A identificação daquela origem foi determinada pela circunstância de, alí, o problema ter merecido um estudo sistematizado e ter se caracterizado como metafísico. Entendendo-se, com isso, que a questão a resolver era a respeito do que existiria como entidade autônoma. Neste caso, então, se apenas o "corpo", se apenas a "mente" ou se os dois. As soluções que propunham a existência só da mente (monistas da mente), ou de mente e corpo, enquanto entidades distintas (dualistas) viriam a ser, portanto, decisivas para a própria concepção da Psicologia. Como se afirma ser, a partir de uma decisão referente ao problema anterior, que se deva desenvolver uma Psicologia cientifica, estabelece-se, no capítulo II, as concepções adotadas para Ciência, conhecimento científico e método científico. Ali, aproveita-se para justificar porque parte do estudo deve cair sob o domínio da Filosofia da Ciência, como um todo e da Filosofia da Psicologia, em particular. No capítulo III, volta-se a demonstrar com maior ênfase, que o problema "mente-corpo" é, ainda hoje, metafísico e requer uma tomada de decisão, naqueles termos. Mostra-se que a decisão é sempre tomada quando nada como pressuposto, senão explícito, pelo menos implícito. Uma vez tendo-se demonstrado que só o corpo pode ser afirmado como representando alguma coisa que exista, em termos reais, no sentido metafísico, parte-se para o estabelecimento daquele que seria o autêntico objeto de estudo da Psicologia. Fazendo-se, então, uso de uma Semântica Filosófica "crítico-realista", demonstra-se que ele termina sendo: o conjunto de propriedades do objeto real representado pelo corpo e responsáveis pelas manifestações pelas quais a Psicologia, por uma tradição de investigação, sempre se interessou. Finalmente, no capítulo IV, concebe-se um modelo sistêmico para representar a Natureza. Nele vige a 'lei' da transformação, que resulta da' interação entre os subsistemas. Entre os subsistemas existem aqueles que representam objetos reais e são designados como "Corpo Humano". Estes estão sujeitos à mesma 'lei'. A partir da transformação do U23592 em Pb20782, constrói-se duas funções matemáticas, com base na teoria dos conjuntos, para demonstrar-se como funciona a lei da transformação ou a função transformação, aplicável a todos os subsistemas, que são elementos do Sistema que representa a Natureza. Dessas construções e mais algumas, ao serem aplicadas aos subsistemas que representam os objetos reais denotados como Corpo Humano, extrai-se um grande número de consequências para a Psicologia. Termina-se apresentando um modelo específico para representar o objeto real denotado por Corpo Humano. Este, como subsistema, também é um sistema e composto de quatro subsistemas: Motor, Emocional, Perceptivo e Cognitivo. O todo e as partes passam a funcionar regidos pela lei da Transformação.

The objective of this work is to analyze the phenomenon of lying, highlighting some uses and social consequences. Lies are a ubiquitous phenomenon, and in many cases they even promote social harmony. Furthermore, telling lies is an expression of individuality: it is the expression of relative autonomy that the subject has towards their social environment allowing them to defend their most personal interests. The work also aims to examine the concept of habitus applied to the social production of lies. Thus, the liars produce their lies aiming to obtain certain effects on their audiences. There are certain social cognitive principles that structure the kind of lie that is usually told to the public. Finally, the perpetrators of crimes of fraud and other deceptive practices may suffer a criminal prosecution because the damage they cause affects important social values recognized by the state, and are not restricted to the victim‟s chagrin. In the most common forms of fraud, the crooks make tempting offers to victims exploiting some of their standardized behaviors and reactions. To understand the fragility of the victims to scams is an attempt to understand how a social phenomenon as usual as is the lie can still surprise and cause perplexity

Monoculture of mind This idea, presented by Vandana Shiva, reflects the phase that we have experienced in the world: a notion of civilization that, since many decades, characterized by a technocratic big trend, has been shown as dominant and hegemonic. Based on a thinking and acting, felling and whishing standardization, this wave ends implying in what can be called of humanity‟s crisis at civilizational process. Destruction of simpler and more harmonious lifestyles with nature, human relations increasingly distant, values embrittlement, as respect, goodness and love, are some consequences of that behavioral homogenization. In the other hand, appears an archipelago of cultural and cognitive resistance against this devastating wave. Edgar Morin and Ceiça Almeida refer to this archipelago as a South Thought , what is not just a geographic question. Report, therefore, to some places, peoples, island that keep ancient costumes and knowledge, orally transmitted, for instance, from elders to younger, or vice versa, in an almost constant flow. Particular ways of experiencing the world around themselves, the men, animals, plants, rocks, or even not alive beings, masters or enchanted, spiritual guides. Next to a logic of sensitive, as Claude Levi-Strauss proposes, this reading, which is a more attentive, observer and wiser posture of surroundings, is based on touching, smelling, eating, seeing, and, I would add, felling. In light of this, I try to expatiate about certain experiences that I had the pleasure of living in some of these islands of resistance. As obras de Sade procuram retratar as práticas corruptas e libertinas presentes no regime despótico de Luís XV, apontando invariavelmente a alcova como lugar privilegiado de transformação do corpo e da mente e, ao mesmo tempo, de produção filosófica. A atualidade do pensamento de Sade revela-se no fato de colocar como tendencia da modernidade, a constituição narcísica da subjetividade que, em sua variante político-social, aparece sob a forma do conformismo político. Este artigo pretende apresentar o pensamento de Sade como urna crítica aos liames sociais, o que conduz à ruptura da idéia de pacto social formulada por Rousseau. A doutrina sem compaixão de Sade torna-se filosofia negativa na medida em que fornece os fundamentos da crítica à razão instrumental. Sendo pessimista quanto aos rumos do existente, a teoria sadiana aponta a animalidade humana como possibilidade de transcendencia da artificialidade dos laços sociais.

Techniques of mind & body control seem to benefit human organism in general and cognition in particular, because they involve a mindfulness practice. However, there is still a scarcity of studies with well-controlled methods to investigate the possible effects of Yoga practice. In this study, we investigated the effects of regular Yoga practice, based on Yoga postures (asanas), breathing techniques, and meditation exercises, on memory and physiologic and psychological parameters related to quality of life. There were significant improvements on performance tasks of short term memory and long term memory. We also observed significant beneficial effects on psychological and physiological parameters such as mood, anxiety, depression, stress, and modulation of the autonomic nervous system in Yoga practitioners group compared to the conventional physical exercises group. The results suggest the possible influences of stress, emotional state and mental training on cognitive effects of yoga practice. Our results support the indication of practice of Yoga for the treatment or prevention of stress, psychological disorders and their possible cognitive consequences

Este artigo é uma tentativa de delinear as principais características da pesquisa numa nova área de estudos a chamada Inteligência Artificial (AI). Os itens 1 e 2 constituem um rápido histórico da AI e seus pressupostos básicos. O item 3 trata da teoria de resolução de problemas, desenvolvida por A. Newell e H. Simon. O item 4 procura mostrar a relevância da AI para a Filosofia, em especial para a filosofia da Mente e para a Teoria do Conhecimento.

New programming language paradigms have commonly been tested and eventually incorporated into hardware description languages. Recently, aspect-oriented programming (AOP) has shown successful in improving the modularity of object-oriented and structured languages such Java, C++ and C. Thus, one can expect that, using AOP, one can improve the understanding of the hardware systems under design, as well as make its components more reusable and easier to maintain. We apply AOP in applications developed using the SystemC library. Several examples will be presented illustrating how to combine AOP and SystemC. During the presentation of these examples, the benefits of this new approach will also be discussed

When crosscutting concerns identification is performed from the beginning of development, on the activities involved in requirements engineering, there are many gains in terms of quality, cost and efficiency throughout the lifecycle of software development. This early identification supports the evolution of requirements, detects possible flaws in the requirements specification, improves traceability among requirements, provides better software modularity and prevents possible rework. However, despite these several advantages, the crosscutting concerns identification over requirements engineering faces several difficulties such as the lack of systematization and tools that support it. Furthermore, it is difficult to justify why some concerns are identified as crosscutting or not, since this identification is, most often, made without any methodology that systematizes and bases it. In this context, this paper proposes an approach based on Grounded Theory, called GT4CCI, for systematizing and basing the process of identifying crosscutting concerns in the initial stages of the software development process in the requirements document. Grounded Theory is a renowned methodology for qualitative analysis of data. Through the use of GT4CCI it is possible to better understand, track and document concerns, adding gains in terms of quality, reliability and modularity of the entire lifecycle of software

Cognitive Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary area of research that combines measurement of brain activity (mostly by means of neuroimaging) with a simultaneous performance of cognitive tasks by human subjects. These investigations have been successful in the task of connecting the sciences of the brain (Neurosciences) and the sciences of the mind (Cognitive Sciences). Advances on this kind of research provide a map of localization of cognitive functions in the human brain. Do these results help us to understand how mind relates to the brain? In my view, the results obtained by the Cognitive Neurosciences lead to new investigations in the domain of Molecular Neurobiology, aimed at discovering biophysical mechanisms that generate the activity measured by neuroimaging instruments. In this context, I argue that the understanding of how ionic/molecular processes support cognition and consciousness cannot be made by means of the standard reductionist explanations. Knowledge of ionic/molecular meclianisms can contribute to our understanding of the human mind as long as we assume an alternative form of explanation, based on psycho-physical similarities, together with an ontological view of mentality and spirituality as embedded in physical nature (and not outside nature, as frequently assumed in western culture).
