Objective: The objective of this work, and review concepts on the physiology of hormones Adrenals to enhance pre, trans and post-operative care to dentists facing surgical, dental care of immunosuppressed patients. Literature review: The corticosteroids are among the most used drugs in medicine in recent times due to its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activities, especially in transplant patients and patients with chronic autoimmune diseases. However, the continuing use of these drugs leads to a decrease in endogenous production of cortisol by the adrenal. Besides depressing the patient’s immune system, it may generate many parallel undesirable effects like blocking the production of the natural hormone of adrenal cortex, or steroid called cortisol, which may be the cause of a malfunctioning of the adrenal gland, causing hypofunction or hyperfunction of the gland. Final considerations: This fact will lead to changes in the planning of dental surgery, where it will be necessary special actions towards the patients who have this condition.

The quantitative data was collected in OHTs’ daily production spreadsheets, covering the following items: the number of dental visits (initial, for maintenance and for emergency procedures), procedures performed, consumption of material and sterilization cycles. Data was compared and statistically analyzed through the BioStat 5.0 by applying the paired t-test (p <0.05). Results: Under the Ministerial method and the Testing model, were performed, respectively, 288 and 365 first dental visits, 921 and 686 return dental visits, 167 and 172 emergency dental attendances, with 469 and 110 fouls, 212 and 327 treatments were finished and 2501 and 3046 dental procedures were realized. Among eleven analyzed consumables, five were consumed in smaller quantities in the Testing model: gloves (9%), anesthesia (38%), anesthetic needle (34%), suture material (24%) and aspirators (11%), while the six remaining items presented similar consumption rates between the two models. It is evidenced, through reports of professionals, that the patients become calmer and more collaborative with the dentists, distracting them from the treatment focus and creating a positive bond. It should be noted that this experience has contributed to motivate the professionals to introduce new techniques for dental approach, such as Animal Assisted Therapy.
