Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs), exploit inherent manufacturing variations and present a promising solution for hardware security. They can be used for key storage, authentication and ID generations. Low power cryptographic design is also very important for security applications. However, research to date on digital PUF designs, such as Arbiter PUFs and RO PUFs, is not very efficient. These PUF designs are difficult to implement on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) or consume many FPGA hardware resources. In previous work, a new and efficient PUF identification generator was presented for FPGA. The PUF identification generator is designed to fit in a single slice per response bit by using a 1-bit PUF identification generator cell formed as a hard-macro. In this work, we propose an ultra-compact PUF identification generator design. It is implemented on ten low-cost Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA LX9 microboards. The resource utilization is only 2.23%, which, to the best of the authors' knowledge, is the most compact and robust FPGA-based PUF identification generator design reported to date. This PUF identification generator delivers a stable range of uniqueness of around 50% and good reliability between 85% and 100%.

On 2011 May 31 UT a supernova (SN) exploded in the nearby galaxy M51 (the Whirlpool Galaxy). We discovered this event using small telescopes equipped with CCD cameras and also detected it with the Palomar Transient Factory survey, rapidly confirming it to be a Type II SN. Here, we present multi-color ultraviolet through infrared photometry which is used to calculate the bolometric luminosity and a series of spectra. Our early-time observations indicate that SN 2011dh resulted from the explosion of a relatively compact progenitor star. Rapid shock-breakout cooling leads to relatively low temperatures in early-time spectra, compared to explosions of red supergiant stars, as well as a rapid early light curve decline. Optical spectra of SN 2011dh are dominated by H lines out to day 10 after explosion, after which He I lines develop. This SN is likely a member of the cIIb (compact IIb) class, with progenitor radius larger than that of SN 2008ax and smaller than the eIIb (extended IIb) SN 1993J progenitor. Our data imply that the object identified in pre-explosion Hubble Space Telescope images at the SN location is possibly a companion to the progenitor or a blended source, and not the progenitor star itself, as its radius (~1013 cm) would be highly inconsistent with constraints from our post-explosion spectra.

This paper discusses compact-stencil finite difference time domain (FDTD) schemes for approximating the 2D wave equation in the context of digital audio. Stability, accuracy, and efficiency are investigated and new ways of viewing and interpreting the results are discussed. It is shown that if a tight accuracy constraint is applied, implicit schemes outperform explicit schemes. The paper also discusses the relevance to digital waveguide mesh modelling, and highlights the optimally efficient explicit scheme.

Predicting the next location of a user based on their previous visiting pattern is one of the primary tasks over data from location based social networks (LBSNs) such as Foursquare. Many different aspects of these so-called check-in profiles of a user have been made use of in this task, including spatial and temporal information of check-ins as well as the social network information of the user. Building more sophisticated prediction models by enriching these check-in data by combining them with information from other sources is challenging due to the limited data that these LBSNs expose due to privacy concerns. In this paper, we propose a framework to use the location data from LBSNs, combine it with the data from maps for associating a set of venue categories with these locations. For example, if the user is found to be checking in at a mall that has cafes, cinemas and restaurants according to the map, all these information is associated. This category information is then leveraged to predict the next checkin location by the user. Our experiments with publicly available check-in dataset show that this approach improves on the state-of-the-art methods for location prediction.

Existing compact routing schemes, e.g., Thorup and Zwick [SPAA 2001] and Chechik [PODC 2013], often have no means to tolerate failures, once the system has been setup and started. This paper presents, to our knowledge, the first self-healing compact routing scheme. Besides, our schemes are developed for low memory nodes, i.e., nodes need only O(log2 n) memory, and are thus, compact schemes.
We introduce two algorithms of independent interest: The first is CompactFT, a novel compact version (using only O(log n) local memory) of the self-healing algorithm Forgiving Tree of Hayes et al. [PODC 2008]. The second algorithm (CompactFTZ) combines CompactFT with Thorup-Zwicks treebased compact routing scheme [SPAA 2001] to produce a fully compact self-healing routing scheme. In the self-healing model, the adversary deletes nodes one at a time with the affected nodes self-healing locally by adding few edges. CompactFT recovers from each attack in only O(1) time and messages, with only +3 degree increase and O(log) graph diameter increase, over any sequence of deletions ( is the initial maximum degree).
Additionally, CompactFTZ guarantees delivery of a packet sent from sender s as long as the receiver has not been deleted, with only an additional O(y log ) latency, where y is the number of nodes that have been deleted on the path between s and t. If t has been deleted, s gets informed and the packet removed from the network.

Having as a starting point the characterization of probabilistic metric spaces as enriched categories over the quantale , conditions that allow the generalization of results relating Cauchy sequences, convergence of sequences, adjunctions of V-distributors and its representability are established. Equivalence between L-completeness and L-injectivity is also established. L-completeness is characterized via the Yoneda embedding, and injectivity is related with exponentiability. Another kind of completeness is considered and the formal ball model is analyzed.

A number of acoustic A compact acoustic recorder, primarily designed for underwater noise monitoring, is presented in this paper. The Self-Register Hydrophone has been used in several occasions during the past three years, in underwater noise monitoring activities. However, this kind of device also find application in other areas such as array processing and passive acoustic monitoring of marine mammals. An overview on the application of the Self-Register Hydrophone is given herein.

This paper presents electromagnetic simulations of dielectric-filled rectangular waveguide bandpass filter structures with microstrip to waveguide transitions as well as a diplexer based on such filters for modern wireless systems. The two bandpass filters have been designed and simulated at centre frequencies of 11.85 and 14.25 GHz, respectively. A significant size reduction is achieved through dielectric filling.

A compact highly linear microstrip dual-mode electronically switchable filter is presented. The key characteristics of the dual-mode switchable filter are investigated and described. A second order filter design procedure is outlined to facilitate the realisation of Butterworth and Chebyshev functions. The proposed filter was built and tested with NXP pin diode model BAP65-03. The measured and simulated results are in good agreement. The measured insertion loss in the ON state was 3.0 dB the isolation in the OFF state was 45 dB at the centre frequency. An evaluation of filter distortion is presented for digitally modulated 16 QAM and QPSK signals.

Pseudo-elliptic cross-coupled filter with direct source-load coupling is designed, simulated and fabricated. Experimental results are presented to prove feasibility of the filter. Significant size reduction is achieved.

This paper presents an ultra compact waveguide bandpass filter that exhibits a pseudo-elliptic response. The transmission zero created in the upper stopband to form a rapid roll off is produced through a bypass coupling with higher order modes. A 3rd order filter is designed at the centre frequency of 9.4 GHz with a 5.3% fractional bandwidth. The proposed structure's size is 38% smaller than one of a 3rd order E-plane extracted pole filter with comparable response. Additionally, this configuration allows larger span of different bandwidths. The filter has been fabricated and tested using E-plane waveguide technology, which has benefits of being inexpensive and having mass producible capabilities. Measurements of such a fabricated filter validate the simulated results.
