Key elements for, and indicators of, a successful transition: an international Delphi study.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to reach an international consensus to determine what key elements should be part of a transition program and what indicators could be used to assess its success. METHODS: For this purpose, a Delphi study including an international panel of 37 experts was carried out. The study consisted of three rounds, with response rates ranging from 86.5% to 95%. At each round, experts were asked to assess key elements (defined as the most important elements for the task) and indicators (defined as quantifiable characteristics). At each round, panelists were contacted via e-mail explaining them the tasks to be done and giving them the Web link where to complete the questionnaire. At Round 3, each key element and indicator was assessed as essential, very important, important, accessory, or unnecessary. A 70% agreement was used as cutoff. RESULTS: At Round 3, more than 70% of panelists agreed on six key elements being essential, with one of them (Assuring a good coordination between pediatric and adult professionals) reaching an almost complete consensus (97%). Additionally, 11 more obtained more than 70% agreement when combined with the Very important category. Among indicators, only one (Patient not lost to follow-up) was considered almost unanimously (91%) as essential by the panelists and seven others also reached consensus when the Very important category was included. CONCLUSIONS: Using these results as a framework to develop guidelines at local, national, and international levels would allow better assessing and comparing transition programs.

Reklamaatioprosessin kehittäminen tavarataloketjussa

Tämän työn tavoitteena oli selvittää Sokoksen reklamaatioprosessin kehittämisessä saavutettavia etuja. Reklamaatiokäytäntö muuttui tämän työn aikana paperiversiosta sähköiseen muotoon, ja tässä on pyritty selvittämään muutosten vaikutuksia seurantaan ja ja toimintaan. Tavoitteena oli myös rakentaa prosessin seurannan kannalta tärkeitä mittareita kehityksen seurantaa varten.Sokos-ketjussa tehtiin vuonna 1999 yli 20 000 virheilmoitusta hankintayhtiöön. Näistä osa oli toimitusvirheitä ja osa tuotevirheitä. Reklamaatioiden arvoksi muodostui ostohinnoin lähes seitsemän miljoonaa markkaa. Reklamaatioiden suuresta määrästä johtuen Sokoksella katsottiin järkeväksi tehostaa reklamointia siirtymällä tekemään virheilmoitukset suoraan tietojärjestelmään ja välittämään ne sitä kautta automaattisesti hankintayhtiöön. Uuteen toimintamalliin siirryttiin 1.5.2000. Prosessissa saavutettuja etuja mitattiin tässä työssä järjestämällä henkilöstölle kysely, sekä mittaamalla ja arvioimalla ajansäästöjä. Investoinnin kannattavuutta tutkittiin erilaisten tulevaisuusnäkymien perusteella. Tutkimuksen perusteella uusi prosessi on helpottanut tekijöiden työtä, seuranta/mittaaminen on huomattavasti aiempaa tehokkaampaa, ja investointi muodostuu melko suurella todennäköisyydellä kannattavaksi tiettyjen hyvityssummiin liittyvien ehtojen täyttyessä.

Reusable Bluetooth Networking Component for Symbian Operating System

Tässä diplomityössä käsitellään eri näkökulmia ohjelmistojen uudelleenkäyttöön sekä esitellään perustiedot langattomiin laitteisiin käytettävästä Symbian-käyttöjärjestelmästä ja langattomasta Bluetooth-teknologiasta. Työn käytännön osuudessa suunniteltiin ja toteutettiin uudelleenkäytettävä Bluetooth-ohjelmistokomponentti Symbiankäyttöjärjestelmälle. Ohjelmistojen uudelleenkäytön edut ovat erittäin selkeitä. Uudelleenkäytettävät ohjelmistokomponentit parantavat ohjelmiston laatua ja suorituskykyä. Ohjelmistotuotteiden tuotekehityssykliä voidaan lyhentää merkittävästi ja kehitystyön kokonaiskustannuksia voidaan alentaa tehokkaalla uudelleenkäyttöohjelmalla. Kuitenkin uudelleenkäytöllä on myös esteitä, esimerkkeinä näistä ovat mm. resurssien puute, koulutus sekä uudelleenkäytön vastaiset asenteet. Bluetooth-teknologia on kypsynyt viimeisen kahden vuoden aikana, kun markkinoille on tullut yhä enemmän Bluetooth-laitteita ja niitä käyttäviä sovelluksia. Kehitetty komponentti tarjoaa perustoiminnallisuudet Bluetooth-yhteyksien muodostamiselle ja datan siirtämiselle laitteiden välillä.

Protocol Specific Embedded Operating System

Sulautettujen järjestelmien määrä kuten niiden sisältämä älykkyyskin ovat viime vuosina kasvaneet merkittävästi. Sulautettujen ohjelmistojen yleistymistä ja monipuolistumista on edesauttanut sulautettujen laitteistojen prosessointitehon merkittävä kehittyminen, jonka myötä entistä vaativampien ohjelmistojen totetuttaminen sulautetusti on mahdollistunut. Seuraavana sulautettujen järjestelmien kehitysaskeleena on nähtävissä järjestelmien kommunikointikyvyn paraneminen ja siten uusien ja uudentyyppisten sulautettujen ratkaisujen toteuttaminen. VTT on päättänyt tutkia sulautettujen järjestelmien kommunikointia ja kehittää sulautettun protokolla-alustan. Tutkimuksen perusta on CVOPS protokollajärjestelmä, jota jatkokehittämällä pyritään toteuttamaan sulautettu protokollajärjestelmä, µCVOPS. Tässä diplomityössä esitetään kommunikaation sulautetulle järjestelmälle asettamia vaatimuksia, järjestelmän suunnittelu ja prototyypitys sulautetulla laitteistolla. Prototyypitykseen on käytetty sulautettua DragonBall mikrokontrolleria jonka käyttöjärjestelmänä käytettiin sulautettua Linux:a. Tälle alustalle on tehty CVOPS:sta modifioitu versio, jolla µCVOPS:ia pystytään simuloimaan.

Human Capital Questionnaire (PHCQ): Assessment of European nurses' perception as indicators of human capital quality

Healthcare accreditation models generally include indicators related to healthcare employees' perceptions (e.g. satisfaction, career development, and health safety). During the accreditation process, organizations are asked to demonstrate the methods with which assessments are made. However, none of the models provide standardized systems for the assessment of employees. In this study, we analyzed the psychometric properties of an instrument for the assessment of nurses' perceptions as indicators of human capital quality in healthcare organizations. The Human Capital Questionnaire was applied to a sample of 902 nurses in four European countries (Spain, Portugal, Poland, and the UK). Exploratory factor analysis identified six factors: satisfaction with leadership, identification and commitment, satisfaction with participation, staff well-being, career development opportunities, and motivation. The results showed the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, which when applied to healthcare organizations, provide a better understanding of nurses' perceptions, and is a parsimonious instrument for assessment and organizational accreditation. From a practical point of view, improving the quality of human capital, by analyzing nurses and other healthcare employees' perceptions, is related to workforce empowerment.

Työssä tutkitaan, kuinka Symbian käyttöjärjestelmälle voidaan tehdä siirrettäviä ohjelmia. Työssä käydään läpi menetelmiä, jotka helpottavat ohjelmistojen siirrettävyyttä uudelle alustalle. Uuteen älypuhelimeen voi tulla monia uusia komponentteja. Laite voi muuttua piiritasolla, käyttöjärjestelmästä voi tulla uusi versio sekä siirrettävästä ohjelmasta voi tulla uusi versio. Kaikki nämä vaikuttavat ohjelman siirrettävyyteen. Työssä tehtiin Java-rajapinnan siirto uudelle alustalle. Prosessin aikana löydettiin tärkeitä tekijöitä, jotka vaikuttavat ohjelmiston siirrettävyyteen. Siirrettävyys sinänsä pitäisi ottaa huomioon ohjelmistoprosessin jokaisessa vaiheessa. Älypuhelimista tulee jatkuvasti uusia versioita. Tämä tekee ohjelmien siirrettävyydestä hyvin tärkeän tekijän ohjelmistojen suunnittelussa. Hyvin suunniteltu ohjelma on helpompi ylläpitää, päivättää ja siirtää myöhemmin.

International accounting standards will be applied from the1st of January 2005 in accounting of member states of the EU with a view of harmonizing the accounting practices in Europe, and on the long term even more widely. The purpose of adopting IAS accounting standards is to make the financial statements and financial information received from companies more comparable and more transparent for investors and other interest groups. IAS 17 introduces the treatment of a lease agreement in the light of the new accounting standards. Finnish companies have used finance leases widely as an alternative, off-balance sheet form of financing capital investments consistently with Finnish GAAP. Along with the appliance of IAS 17 the off-balance-sheet financing possibility of leases classified as finance leases will no longer exist. IAS 17 states that finance leases are going to be recognized in the balance sheet as both assets, in form of fixed assets, and loans in liabilities classified as long and short term loans. IAS 17 will make two major changes to the income statement. Firstly, the lease payments formerly treated as variable costs are moved below the operating profit level to finance costs. Secondly, the depreciations from the leased assets are also introduced. The effects to the case company's, Fortum Shipping's, income statement and balance sheet are remarkable. Along with the appliance of IAS Fortum Shipping's net assets are somewhat going to be doubled, the amount of liabilities increases significantly and the earnings before interests and taxes increases moderately. The preceding factors have a big effect on the case company's financial key figures. So, the IAS originated effects on balance sheet and income statement have essential impacts on a company's key financial indicators. Most significant changes can be found in key ratios measuring profitability, capital structure, and efficiency. This means that when comparing the IAS calculated profits of companies with the profits calculated prior with Finnish GAAP, the analysis should be made with prudence because the figures are not comparable on straight-forward basis.

SocialPosition : Social Position Indicators Construction Toolbox

This R package provides to sociologists (and related scientists) a toolbox to facilitate the construction of social position indicators from survey data. Social position indicators refer to what is commonly known as social class and social status. There exists in the sociological literature many theoretical conceptualisation and empirical operationalization of social class and social status. This first version of the package offers tools to construct the International Socio-Economic Index of Occupational Status (ISEI) and the Oesch social class schema. It also provides tools to convert several occupational classifications (PCS82, PCS03, and ISCO08) into a common one (ISCO88) to facilitate data harmonisation work, and tools to collapse (i.e. group) modalities of social position indicators.

Indicators for the characterization of discrete Choquet integrals

Ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operators and their extensions are powerful tools used in numerous decision-making problems. This class of operator belongs to a more general family of aggregation operators, understood as discrete Choquet integrals. Aggregation operators are usually characterized by indicators. In this article four indicators usually associated with the OWA operator are extended to discrete Choquet integrals: namely, the degree of balance, the divergence, the variance indicator and Renyi entropies. All of these indicators are considered from a local and a global perspective. Linearity of indicators for linear combinations of capacities is investigated and, to illustrate the application of results, indicators of the probabilistic ordered weighted averaging -POWA- operator are derived. Finally, an example is provided to show the application to a specific context.
