Esta pesquisa teve como principal objetivo analisar os serviços de auditoria interna em sua modalidade operacional nas empresas industriais de transformação na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, no que concerne a estrutura organizacional e seu funcionamento, considerando-se suas características individuais em conformidade com a área ou setor de atuação de cada empresa, em relação com a literatura estudada. A revisão de literatura apresentada no capítulo II, enfoca aspectos relevantes que foram usados como fundamentos teóricos para nortear o presente estudo. No capítulo III é apresentada a metodologia utilizada, onde se chama a atenção para a utilização do método de estudo de casos, levando-se em consideracão a carência de verificações empíricas na área de auditoria, utilizadas nas empresas pesquisadas. A seguir, no capítulo IV, são descritos os casos estudados, abordando-se as características de cada Departamento de Auditoria, e as respectivas formas com que desenvolvem os seus trabalhos. No capítulo V é apresentado a análise dos casos através de comparações com os pontos vistos como importantes na literatura. Finalmente, no capitulo VI, são apresentadas as conclusões, recomendações e sugestões de novos estudos.

In the last decades, the oil, gas and petrochemical industries have registered a series of huge accidents. Influenced by this context, companies have felt the necessity of engaging themselves in processes to protect the external environment, which can be understood as an ecological concern. In the particular case of the nuclear industry, sustainable education and training, which depend too much on the quality and applicability of the knowledge base, have been considered key points on the safely application of this energy source. As a consequence, this research was motivated by the use of the ontology concept as a tool to improve the knowledge management in a refinery, through the representation of a fuel gas sweetening plant, mixing many pieces of information associated with its normal operation mode. In terms of methodology, this research can be classified as an applied and descriptive research, where many pieces of information were analysed, classified and interpreted to create the ontology of a real plant. The DEA plant modeling was performed according to its process flow diagram, piping and instrumentation diagrams, descriptive documents of its normal operation mode, and the list of all the alarms associated to the instruments, which were complemented by a non-structured interview with a specialist in that plant operation. The ontology was verified by comparing its descriptive diagrams with the original plant documents and discussing with other members of the researchers group. All the concepts applied in this research can be expanded to represent other plants in the same refinery or even in other kind of industry. An ontology can be considered a knowledge base that, because of its formal representation nature, can be applied as one of the elements to develop tools to navigate through the plant, simulate its behavior, diagnose faults, among other possibilities

O presente trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de estudar a coleta e o descarte de plantas aquáticas em diferentes locais e infestações do sistema Tietê/Paraná, no reservatório de Jupiá. A operação foi realizada com auxílio de instrumentação instalada em uma colhedora de plantas aquáticas, com sistema de GPS dotado de sinal de correção diferencial. Os tempos gastos para carregar e descarregar a colhedora foram determinados por cronometragem, e a distância do ponto final de coleta ao ponto de descarte e o tempo de deslocamento, por cronometragem e uso de GPS convencional. em algumas coletas foram demarcados polígonos, instruindo-se o operador a trabalhar exclusivamente na área correspondente. A interpretação dos resultados permitiu determinar a participação do tempo de coleta em relação ao tempo total de operação, indicando um valor significativo do ponto de vista operacional (>70%). Considerando o descarte em áreas infestadas com taboa, o deslocamento total médio foi de apenas 383 m, com gasto médio de 200,96 s. Os valores de capacidade operacional da colhedora oscilaram entre 0,23 e 1,60 ha h-1, indicando valor médio de 4,48 ha dia-1. A maior limitação à capacidade operacional associou-se à velocidade média de deslocamento, com maior agravante em áreas com altas infestações ou profundas. Considerando-se o deslocamento da colhedora, houve grande dificuldade de orientação em condições normais de operação, inviabilizando a manutenção de espaçamentos uniformes entre as faixas de coleta e sobrepondo as passagens. Conclui-se que a avaliação operacional indicou a impossibilidade de operar a colhedora sem o auxílio de um sistema de navegação que permita orientar a sua movimentação nas áreas de controle.

A metodologia tradicional de identificação de parâmetros na análise modal de estruturas é realizada a partir de sinais medidos de força de entrada e de movimento de resposta da estrutura em condições laboratoriais controladas. Entretanto, quando é necessária a obtenção dos parâmetros modais de estruturas de máquinas em operação, as condições para controlar e medir a excitação nestas situações impossibilita a realização da análise modal tradicional. Neste caso, o teste modal é realizado utilizando somente dados de resposta do sistema. A Análise Modal Operacional (AMO) é um método de extração modal em que nenhuma excitação artificial necessita ser aplicada ao sistema, utilizando-se a própria excitação operacional como entrada para medição da resposta do sistema. A técnica clássica de Análise Modal Operacional NExT considera, para isso, que a excitação operacional do sistema seja um ruído branco. Esta técnica faz a consideração de que as funções de correlação obtidas de estruturas podem ser consideradas como funções de resposta ao impulso e então métodos tradicionais de identificação modal no domínio do tempo podem ser empregados. Entretanto, caso a excitação operacional contenha componentes harmônicos que se sobressaiam, estes podem ser confundidos como modos naturais do sistema. Neste trabalho é demonstrada que através da função densidade de probabilidade da banda estreita contendo o pico de um modo, é possível identifica-lo como natural ou operacional (proveniente da excitação operacional da estrutura). É apresentada também uma modificação no método de identificação modal Exponencial Complexa Mínimos Quadrados (LSCE), passando a considerar sinais harmônicos de freqüências conhecidas presentes na excitação operacional, em um ensaio utilizando a técnica NExT. Para validação desses métodos, utiliza-se um modelo teórico de parâmetros modais conhecidos analiticamente e como estudo de caso experimental, um sistema formado por uma viga bi-apoiada suportando um motor elétrico com desbalanceamento de massa.

We present a new physical principle to design an optoelectronic device, which consists of a multilayered semiconductor structure, where the necessary conditions for generation of photoelectrons are met, such that it will enable sequential avalanche multiplication of electrons and holes inside two depletion slabs created around the p - n junctions of a reverse biased pn - i - pn structure. The mathematical model and computer simulations of this Semiconductor Photo-electron Multiplier (SPEM) for different semiconductor materials are presented. Its performance is evaluated and compared with that of conventional devices. The Geiger operational mode is briefly discussed which may be used in Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) as an elementary photo detector to enhance its performance.

In this paper, the combination of the Dynamic Threshold (DT) voltage technique with a non-planar structure is experimentally studied in triple-gate FinFETs. The drain current, transconductance, resistance, threshold voltage, subthreshold swing and Drain Induced Barrier Lowering (DIBL) will be analyzed in the DT mode and the standard biasing configuration. Moreover, for the first time, the important figures of merit for the analog performance such as transconductance-over-drain current, output conductance. Early voltage and intrinsic voltage gain will be studied experimentally and through three-dimensional (3-D) numerical simulations for different channel doping concentrations in triple-gate DTMOS FinFETs. The results indicate that the DTMOS FinFETs always yield superior characteristic; and larger transistor efficiency. In addition, DTMOS devices with a high channel doping concentration exhibit much better analog performance compared to the normal operation mode, which is desirable for high performance low-power/low-voltage applications. During the course of my Ph.D. in the laboratories directed by Prof. Alfredo Ricci at the Department of Organic Chemistry “A. Mangini” of the University of Bologna, I was involved in the study and the application of a number of organocatalytic systems, all coming from the natural chiral pool. The first part of this thesis will be devoted to new homogeneous organocatalytic reactions promoted by Cinchona alkaloid-based organocatalysts. Quinine based catalysts were found to be a very effective catalyst for Diels-Alder reactions involving 3-vinylindoles. Excellent results in terms of yields and enantioselectivities were achieved, outlining also a remarkable organocatalytic operational mode mimicking enzymatic catalysis. The same reaction with 2-vinylindoles showed a completely different behaviour resulting in an unusual resolution-type process. The asymmetric formal [3+2] cycloaddition with in situ generated N-carbamoyl nitrones using Cinchona-derived quaternary ammonium salts as versatile catalysts under phase transfer conditions, outlines another application in organocatalysis of this class of alkaloids. During the seven months stage in the Prof. Helma Wennemers’ group at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Basel (Switzerland) I have been involved in organocatalysis promoted by oligopeptides. My contribution regarded the 1,4-addition reaction of aldehydes to nitroolefins. In the work performed at the Department of Organic Chemistry “A. Mangini” of the University of Bologna, in collaboration with the ‘Institut Charles Gerhardt-Montpellier, of Montpellier (France) the possibility of performing for the first time heterogeneous organocatalysis by using a natural polysaccharide biopolymer as the source of chirality was disclosed. With chitosan, derived from deacetylation of chitin, a highly enantioselective heterogeneous organocatalytic aldol reaction could be performed. The use of an eco-friendly medium such as water, the recyclability of the catalytic specie and the renewable nature of the polysaccharide are assets of this new approach in organocatalysis and open interesting perspectives for the use of biopolymers.

We report on the EPICA Dronning Maud Land (East Antarctica) deep drilling operation. Starting with the scientific questions that led to the outline of the EPICA project, we introduce the setting of sister drillings at NorthGRIP and EPICA Dome C within the European ice-coring community. The progress of the drilling operation is described within the context of three parallel, deep-drilling operations, the problems that occurred and the solutions we developed. Modified procedures are described, such as the monitoring of penetration rate via cable weight rather than motor torque, and modifications to the system (e.g. closing the openings at the lower end of the outer barrel to reduce the risk of immersing the drill in highly concentrated chip suspension). Parameters of the drilling (e.g. core-break force, cutter pitch, chips balance, liquid level, core production rate and piece number) are discussed. We also review the operational mode, particularly in the context of achieved core length and piece length, which have to be optimized for drilling efficiency and core quality respectively. We conclude with recommendations addressing the design of the chip-collection openings and strictly limiting the cable-load drop with respect to the load at the start of the run.

Satellite laser ranging (SLR) to the satellites of the global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) provides substantial and valuable information about the accuracy and quality of GNSS orbits and allows for the SLR-GNSS co-location in space. In the framework of the NAVSTAR-SLR experiment two GPS satellites of Block-IIA were equipped with laser retroreflector arrays (LRAs), whereas all satellites of the GLONASS system are equipped with LRAs in an operational mode. We summarize the outcome of the NAVSTAR-SLR experiment by processing 20 years of SLR observations to GPS and 12 years of SLR observations to GLONASS satellites using the reprocessed microwave orbits provided by the center for orbit determination in Europe (CODE). The dependency of the SLR residuals on the size, shape, and number of corner cubes in LRAs is studied. We show that the mean SLR residuals and the RMS of residuals depend on the coating of the LRAs and the block or type of GNSS satellites. The SLR mean residuals are also a function of the equipment used at SLR stations including the single-photon and multi-photon detection modes. We also show that the SLR observations to GNSS satellites are important to validate GNSS orbits and to assess deficiencies in the solar radiation pressure models. We found that the satellite signature effect, which is defined as a spread of optical pulse signals due to reflection from multiple reflectors, causes the variations of mean SLR residuals of up to 15 mm between the observations at nadir angles of 0∘ and 14∘. in case of multi-photon SLR stations. For single-photon SLR stations this effect does not exceed 1 mm. When using the new empirical CODE orbit model (ECOM), the SLR mean residual falls into the range 0.1–1.8 mm for high-performing single-photon SLR stations observing GLONASS-M satellites with uncoated corner cubes. For best-performing multi-photon stations the mean SLR residuals are between −12.2 and −25.6 mm due to the satellite signature effect.

The molecular dynamical simulation of the normal vibrational mode of water which involves H-O-H angle deformation, when driven by an external force, can be used to see how a driven harmonic oscillator, classically, is associated with the infra-red spectrum of water (and the absorption for this particular normal mode).

In this paper a model for the measuring process of sonic anemometers (ultrasound pulse based) is presented. The differential equations that describe the travel of ultrasound pulses are solved in the general case of non-steady, non-uniform atmospheric flow field. The concepts of instantaneous line-average and travelling pulse-referenced average are established and employed to explain and calculate the differences between the measured turbulent speed (travelling pulse-referenced average) and the line-averaged one. The limit k1l=1 established by Kaimal in 1968, as the maximum value which permits the neglect of the influence of the sonic measuring process on the measurement of turbulent components is reviewed here. Three particular measurement cases are analysed: A non-steady, uniform flow speed field, a steady, non-uniform flow speed field and finally an atmospheric flow speed field. In the first case, for a harmonic time-dependent flow field, Mach number, M (flow speed to sound speed ratio) and time delay between pulses have revealed themselves to be important parameters in the behaviour of sonic anemometers, within the range of operation. The second case demonstrates how the spatial non-uniformity of the flow speed field leads to an influence of the finite transit time of the pulses (M≠0) even in the absence of non-steady behaviour of the wind speed. In the last case, a model of the influence of the sonic anemometer processes on the measurement of wind speed spectral characteristics is presented. The new solution is compared to the line-averaging models existing in the literature. Mach number and time delay significantly distort the measurement in the normal operational range. Classical line averaging solutions are recovered when Mach number and time delay between pulses go to zero in the new proposed model. The results obtained from the mathematical model have been applied to the calculation of errors in different configurations of practical interest, such as an anemometer located on a meteorological mast and the transfer function of a sensor in an atmospheric wind. The expressions obtained can be also applied to determine the quality requirements of the flow in a wind tunnel used for ultrasonic anemometer calibrations.

RNA polymerases encounter specific DNA sites at which RNA chain elongation takes place in the absence of enzyme translocation in a process called discontinuous elongation. For RNA polymerase II, at least some of these sequences also provoke transcriptional arrest where renewed RNA polymerization requires elongation factor SII. Recent elongation models suggest the occupancy of a site within RNA polymerase that accommodates nascent RNA during discontinuous elongation. Here we have probed the extent of nascent RNA extruded from RNA polymerase II as it approaches, encounters, and departs an arrest site. Just upstream of an arrest site, 17-19 nucleotides of the RNA 3'-end are protected from exhaustive digestion by exogenous ribonuclease probes. As RNA is elongated to the arrest site, the enzyme does not translocate and the protected RNA becomes correspondingly larger, up to 27 nucleotides in length. After the enzyme passes the arrest site, the protected RNA is again the 18-nucleotide species typical of an elongation-competent complex. These findings identify an extended RNA product groove in arrested RNA polymerase II that is probably identical to that emptied during SII-activated RNA cleavage, a process required for the resumption of elongation. Unlike Escherichia coli RNA polymerase at a terminator, arrested RNA polymerase II does not release its RNA but can reestablish the normal elongation mode downstream of an arrest site. Discontinuous elongation probably represents a structural change that precedes, but may not be sufficient for, arrest by RNA polymerase II.
