Kymmenkunta vuotta sitten monessa Suomen kunnassa jouduttiin suureen nimeämistyöhön, kun kuntien keskusjärjestöt suosittivat osoitejärjestelmän luomista myös haja-asutusalueille. Kunnille annetut ohjeet käsittelivät lähinnä osoitejärjestelmän teknistä toteuttamista, eikä nimistönsuunnittelun vaativuutta tajuttu. Tärkein asia eli teiden nimeäminen jäi lähes täysin kunnallisten virkamiesten ja poliitikkojen harkinnan varaan. Varsinkin kaksikielisissä kunnissa jouduttiin hankaluuksiin: tiennimet piti luoda kahdella kielellä, vaikka vanha paikannimistö olisi yksikielistä. Tilannetta mutkisti se, että nimistönsuunnittelun suhtautuminen vanhan paikannimistön kääntämiseen ja mukauttamiseen oli murroksessa juuri osoitteistamisprosessin alussa, eikä uusia periaatteita tuotu selvästi julki ennen 1990-luvun puoliväliä. Vielä 1980-luvulla paikannimien kääntämistä ja mukauttamista suositeltiin, mutta nykyään pidetään jo selvänä, että vanhaa paikannimistöä ei pidä perusteetta muokata vaan sitä voidaan käyttää sellaisenaan. Käypiä nimiä ovat siis niin Kråköntie kuin Koivulavägen. Porvoon maalaiskunnassa nimeämistyö aloitettiin vuonna 1989. Hankkeelle määrättiin virkamiesvalmistelija, joka työskenteli yhdessä toimikunnan kanssa. Tiekunnat saivat ehdottaa teilleen nimiä, ja valtaosaehdotuksista otettiinkin huomioon, mutta alkuvaiheessa lähes kaikki ruotsinkieliset paikannimet käännettiin tai mukautettiin. Koska toimikunnan jäsenillä ei ollut asiantuntemusta, nimien käännökset olivat usein epäonnistuneita ja oikeinkirjoitus horjui. Nähtävilläolon jälkeen alkuvuonna 1991 toimikunta päätti turvautua Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskuksen apuun. Tiekunnat eivät hyväksyneet käännöksiä ja mukaelmia, joten ne neuvojen jälkeen poistettiin. Myöhemmin käännökset palautettiin luontonimiin perustuviin tiennimiin, mutta suurimmalta osalta vanha nimistö säilyi muuttamattomana. Emmintöjen jälkeen kunnanhallitus hyväksyi nimistön syksyllä 1995. Suurin osa Porvoon maalaiskunnan 790:stä haja-asutusalueen tiennimestä perustuu vanhaan paikannimistöön (81 %) tai on muuten paikkaan liittyvää (15 %). Vain pieni osa nimistä (4 %) on harkinnaisia.Vanhaan paikannimistöön perustuvissa tiennimissä on eniten tilannimen (41 %), maastonimen (26 %) ja kylännimen (14 %) sisältäviä nimiä. Yleisimmät jälkiosat ovat tie (86 %), kuja (5 %) ja polku (5 %). Määriteosaltaan tyystin suomenkielisiä nimipareista on 14 % (Aholantie-Aholavägen) ja ruotsinkielisiä 36 % (Bodöntie-Bodövägen). Tiekuntien nimet ja uudet tiennimet ovat eri asioita, mutta noin kolmannes uusista tiennimistä sisältää tiekunnan nimessä esiintyvän nimen. Näin Porvoon maalaiskunnan tiekuntien nimissä esiintyvistä 252 määriteosasta 193:a (77 %) on hyödynnetty 245 uudessa tiennimessä. Ennen tiennimiä osoitteissa käytettiin yleensä vain postinumeroa ja postitoimipaikkaa. Jonkin verran käytössä oli myös osoitenimiä (esim. Björkebo, Kappeli). Niistäkin valtaosa (73 %) esiintyy uusissa tiennimissä. Laskelma pohjautuu postin osoitetietojärjestelmään. Uusi tiennimistö perustuu usein jo käytössä oleviin tien- ja paikannimiin, joten se ei uhkaa vanhan nimistön asemaa. Uuden nimistön vaikutusta vähentää sekin, että sitä tarvitsevat lähinnä ulkopuoliset. Kotitienoot hahmotetaan edelleenkin vanhojen ja vakiintuneiden paikannimien avulla, mutta toki uudet tiennimet tuovat esiin monia vähän käytettyjä paikannimiä ja tarjoavat mainion katsauksen seudun kulttuuriperintöön. Ei siis ole samantekevää, miten teitä nimetään. Huonoiksi koetut uudet nimet eivät välttämättä edes vakiinnu käyttöön. Porvoon maalaiskunnan tulosten vertaaminen koko Suomen kattavaan materiaaliin osoittaa hankkeen edenneen hitaasti, mutta kaksikielisyyden ja työvoiman vähyyden huomioon ottaen kohtalaisesti. Vertailu kuuden muun uusmaalaisen kunnan kanssa paljastaa eroja paitsi hankkeen toteuttamistavoissa myös työn tuloksessa eli nimistössä. Yleensä tiekunnat ja asukkaat ovat saaneet tehdä ehdotuksia ja nimistön ovat laatineet virkamiehet ja nimitoimikunnat ilman palkattua asiantuntijaa. Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskuksen puoleen on sentään käännytty. Tärkeä havainto on se, että kaksikieliset kunnat ovat halunneet vaalia kulttuuriarvoja ja säilyttää keskeisen vanhan paikannimistönsä koskemattomana. The goal of this research was to establish the necessary conditions under which individuals are prepared to commit themselves to quality assurance work in the organisation of a Polytechnic. The conditions were studied using four main concepts: awareness of quality, commitment to the organisation, leadership and work welfare. First, individuals were asked to describe these four concepts. Then, relationships between the concepts were analysed in order to establish the conditions for the commitment of an individual towards quality assurance work (QA). The study group comprised the entire personnel of Helsinki Polytechnic, of which 341 (44.5%) individuals participated. Mixed methods were used as the methodological base. A questionnaire and interviews were used as the research methods. The data from the interviews were used for the validation of the results, as well as for completing the analysis. The results of these interviews and analyses were integrated using the concurrent nested design method. In addition, the questionnaire was used to separately analyse the impressions and meanings of the awareness of quality and leadership, because, according to the pre-understanding, impressions of phenomena expressed in terms of reality have an influence on the commitment to QA. In addition to statistical figures, principal component analysis was used as a description method. For comparisons between groups, one way variance analysis and effect size analysis were used. For explaining the analysis methods, forward regression analysis and structural modelling were applied. As a result of the research it was found that 51% of the conditions necessary for a commitment to QA were explained by an individual’s experience/belief that QA was a method of development, that QA was possible to participate in and that the meaning of quality included both product and process qualities. If analysed separately, other main concepts (commitment to the organisation, leadership and work welfare) played only a small part in explaining an individual’s commitment. In the context of this research, a structural path model of the main concepts was built. In the model, the concepts were interconnected by paths created as a result of a literature search covering the main concepts, as well as a result of an analysis of the empirical material of this thesis work. The path model explained 46% of the necessary conditions under which individuals are prepared to commit themselves to QA. The most important path for achieving a commitment stemmed from product and system quality emanating from the new goals of the Polytechnic, moved through the individual’s experience that QA is a method of the total development of quality and ended in a commitment to QA. The second most important path stemmed from the individual’s experience of belonging to a supportive work community, moved through the supportive value of the job and through affective commitment to the organisation and ended in a commitment to QA. The third path stemmed from an individual’s experiences in participating in QA, moved through collective system quality and through these to the supportive value of the job to affective commitment to the organisation and ended in a commitment to QA. The final path in the path model stemmed from leadership by empowerment, moved through collective system quality, the supportive value of the job and an affective commitment to the organisation, and again, ended in a commitment to QA. As a result of the research, it was found that the individual’s functional department was an important factor in explaining the differences between groups. Therefore, it was found that understanding the processing of part cultures in the organisation is important when developing QA. Likewise, learning-teaching paradigms proved to be a differentiating factor. Individuals thinking according to the humanistic-constructivistic paradigm showed more commitment to QA than technological-rational thinkers. Also, it was proved that the QA training program did not increase commitment, as the path model demonstrated that those who participated in training showed 34% commitment, whereas those who did not showed 55% commitment. As a summary of the results it can be said that the necessary conditions under which individuals are prepared to commit themselves to QA cannot be treated in a reductionistic way. Instead, the conditions must be treated as one totality, with all the main concepts interacting simultaneously. Also, the theoretical framework of quality must include its dynamic aspect, which means the development of the work of the individual and learning through auditing. In addition, this dynamism includes the reflection of the paradigm of the functions of the individual as well as that of all parts of the organisation. It is important to understand and manage the various ways of thinking and the cultural differences produced by the fragmentation of the organisation. Finally, it seems possible that the path model can be generalised for use in any organisation development project where the personnel should be committed.

The purpose of this follow-up study is to analyse stages of learning and teaching of children with special needs in pre-school and the first two grades of elementary school. The target group included 270 children with special needs. The three year follow-up period for each child began during the pre-school year, and continued until the spring of the second grade in elementary school. Various diagnoses were detected among children in the study group. The disorders were categorised in six classes: the developmentally delayed, children with language development disorder, children with emotional and behavioural disorders, children with attention deficit, children with other non-cognitive disorders and children with extensive developmental disorders. The study's starting point was the situation in pre-school: how the children were placed in pre-school, and what kinds of support they were offered? The purpose of the study was to describe how children with special needs move from different types of groups in pre-school to the different types of classes in the first two grades of elementary school. I also examined how well the children with special needs succeeded in the first two grades of elementary school. An additional purpose was to find out what connections there may be between the paths taken by children with special needs when they move from pre-school to elementary school, the types of support they get, and how they succeed academically in elementary school. The data were gathered mainly by means of questionnaires. In addition the children were studied by means of tests designed to estimate their academic skills at the end of the second grade. In analysing the data I used both quantitative and qualitative methods. Six paths were identified among the children in the study group, based on whether a child was in a group or a class given special teaching or in an ordinary group or class during pre-school and the first two grades of elementary school. In this study, about 53% of the children with special needs moved from pre-school to a regular class in elementary school, and about 47% of the children received special education in elementary school. Among the ordinary groups (n = 69) in pre-school the majority of children (73 %) moved to a regular class in elementary school. Among the children receiving special education (n = 201) in pre-school, 46% moved to a regular class in elementary school. That path turned out to be the one followed by the greatest number of children. Only rarely did children move from an ordinary group in pre-school to a special education class in elementary school. Examination of the results according to the children's transition paths also links together with the viewpoint of integration and segregation. This study indicates that in pre-school special education groups, a significantly greater number of methods supporting children's development were used than in the conventional education groups. The difference was at its greatest inconnection with the use of so-called special rehabilitation methods. A quite wide range of variation was observed in how the children succeeded in elementary school. Success in the tests designed to estimate the children's academic skills was poor for 31% of the children (n = 230) in the first grade study group. For 69 % of the children, however, success in the tests was at least satisfactory. In the second grade study group 34 % of the children (N = 216) got through all the three tests estimating academic skills acceptably. According to this study, a number of children with special needs require special support throughout pre-school and the first two grades of elementary school. The results show that if the children received special support during the pre-school year, a number were able to participate in regular education in elementary school. Schizophrenia is a severe psychotic disorder affecting 0.5-1 % of the population. The disorder is characterized by hallucinations; delusions; disorganized behavior and speech; avolition; anhedonia; flattened affect and cognitive deficits. The etiology of the disorder is complex with evidence for multiple genes contributing to the onset of the disorder along with environmental factors. DISC1 is one of the most promising candidate genes for schizophrenia. It codes for a protein which takes part in numerous molecular interactions along several pathways. This network, termed as the DISC1 pathway, is evidently important for the development and maturation of the central nervous system from the embryo until young adulthood. Disruption at these pathways is thought to predispose schizophrenia. In the present study, we have studied the DISC1 pathway in the etiology of schizophrenia in the Finnish population. We have utilized large Finnish samples; the schizophrenia family sample where DISC1 was originally shown to associate with schizophrenia and the Northern Finland birth cohort 1966 (NFBC66). Several DISC1 binding partners displayed evidence for association in the family sample along with DISC1. Through a genome-wide linkage study, we found a significant linkage signal to a locus where a DISC1 binding partner NDE1 is located at the carriers of a certain DISC1 risk variant. In a follow-up study, genetic markers in NDE1 displayed significant evidence for association with schizophrenia. Further exploration of association between 11 genes of the DISC1 pathway and schizophrenia led to recognition of novel variants in NDEL1, PDE4B and PDE4D that significantly either increased or decreased the risk for schizophrenia. Further, we found evidence that DISC1 itself has a significant role in the human mental functioning even in the healthy population. Variants in DISC1 had a significant effect on anhedonia which is a trait present at everybody but is in its severe form one of the main symptoms of schizophrenia and correlates with the risk of developing the disorder. Further, utilizing genome-wide marker data, we recognized three genes; MIR620; CCDC141 and LCT; that are closely related to the DISC1 pathway but which effects on anhedonia were observable only at the individuals who carried these specific DISC1 variants. Our findings significantly add up to the previous evidence for the involvement of DISC1 and the DISC1 pathway in the etiology of schizophrenia and psychosis. Our results support the concept of a number of DISC1 pathway related genes contributing in the etiology of schizophrenia along with DISC1 and provide new candidates for the studies of schizophrenia. Our findings also significantly increase the importance of DISC1 itself as having a role in psychological functioning in the general population.

Phosphorus is a nutrient needed in crop production. While boosting crop yields it may also accelerate eutrophication in the surface waters receiving the phosphorus runoff. The privately optimal level of phosphorus use is determined by the input and output prices, and the crop response to phosphorus. Socially optimal use also takes into account the impact of phosphorus runoff on water quality. Increased eutrophication decreases the economic value of surface waters by Deteriorating fish stocks, curtailing the potential for recreational activities and by increasing the probabilities of mass algae blooms. In this dissertation, the optimal use of phosphorus is modelled as a dynamic optimization problem. The potentially plant available phosphorus accumulated in soil is treated as a dynamic state variable, the control variable being the annual phosphorus fertilization. For crop response to phosphorus, the state variable is more important than the annual fertilization. The level of this state variable is also a key determinant of the runoff of dissolved, reactive phosphorus. Also the loss of particulate phosphorus due to erosion is considered in the thesis, as well as its mitigation by constructing vegetative buffers. The dynamic model is applied for crop production on clay soils. At the steady state, the analysis focuses on the effects of prices, damage parameterization, discount rate and soil phosphorus carryover capacity on optimal steady state phosphorus use. The economic instruments needed to sustain the social optimum are also analyzed. According to the results the economic incentives should be conditioned on soil phosphorus values directly, rather than on annual phosphorus applications. The results also emphasize the substantial effects the differences in varying discount rates of the farmer and the social planner have on optimal instruments. The thesis analyzes the optimal soil phosphorus paths from its alternative initial levels. It also examines how erosion susceptibility of a parcel affects these optimal paths. The results underline the significance of the prevailing soil phosphorus status on optimal fertilization levels. With very high initial soil phosphorus levels, both the privately and socially optimal phosphorus application levels are close to zero as the state variable is driven towards its steady state. The soil phosphorus processes are slow. Therefore, depleting high phosphorus soils may take decades. The thesis also presents a methodologically interesting phenomenon in problems of maximizing the flow of discounted payoffs. When both the benefits and damages are related to the same state variable, the steady state solution may have an interesting property, under very general conditions: The tail of the payoffs of the privately optimal path as well as the steady state may provide a higher social welfare than the respective tail of the socially optimal path. The result is formalized and an applied to the created framework of optimal phosphorus use.

Työ käsittelee Markkinoinnin Automaatiota, viitekehyksen rakentamista Markkinoinnin Automaation käyttöönottoon ja sen hyödyntämiselle markkinoinnin ja myynnin putken hallinnassa. Työ on suoritettu tapaustutkimuksena, jonka primääri datana on käytetty puoli-strukturoituja haastatteluja ja sekundääri datana on käytetty dataa myynnin tietojärjestelmistä. Kirjallisuuskatsaus markkinoinnin automaatioon paljastaa, että aihetta ei ole juurikaan tutkittu akateemisesti. Etenkin selkeitä aukkoja teorioissa on miten markkinoinnin automaatiota kannattaisi aloittaa ja miten siihen tarvittavia kamppanjoita kannattaisi rakentaa. Tapaustutkimuksen tuloksena selvisi selkeät ongelma kohdat nykysessä markkinoinnin ja myynnin putkessa, ja myös kohdat joissa markkinoinnin automaatio voi olla avuksi. Suurin osa ongelma kohdista on markkinoinnin ja myynnin välissä. Toimiakseen markkinoinnin automaatio vaatii selkeät määritykset yrityksessä Liidille ja miten sitä käsitellään. Toimivuuden takaamiseksi se tarvitsee myös jatkuvaa palautetta liideistä ja myynneistä. Alue mikä myös tarvitsee muutosta paremman toimivuuden takaamiseksi on markkinoinnin kamppanjoiden suunnittelu, yhdessä myynnin kanssa ja asiakkaan polku edellä. Tulevaisuuden tavoitteena tulisi olla viestien personointi ja asiakkaiden profilointi. Tulevaisuuden tutkimuskohteet olisivat erittäin avuliaita yrityksille, varsinki jos ne käsittelisivät käyttöönottoa tai personointia.
