Abstract NGL 2015 Workshop Användning av OER och video i undervisning och lärande Sten Sundin Hållbus Totte Mattsson Open Educational Resources; OER, även kallat öppna lärresurser, är resurser som finns tillgängliga på Internet som kan användas fritt och i många fall också bearbetas fritt. Fördelarna med OER i allmänhet är att kunna återanvända andra personers expertkunskap och material. Många lärresurser håller en hög kvalitet och är även mycket pedagogiska. Detta förbättrar lärandet och innebär nya möjligheter i undervisningen som en lärare själv annars inte skulle kunnat åstadkomma, som t.ex. att själv göra tidskrävande videoinspelningar. Att undervisa med mer stöd av video, bilder och icketextbaserad information kan även gynna studenters olika lärstilar. Denna workshop syftar till att introducera användning av OER och video för lärare som inte är bekanta med OERbegreppet och som i större utsträckning önskar använda video i undervisningen. Under workshopen kommer deltagarna att arbeta i grupp med relevanta söktjänster för att hitta och undersöka användbara OER eller videoresurser. Länkar och anteckningar från sökningarna kommer att delas till övriga workshopdeltagare på en webbaserad samarbetsyta som kommer att vara tillgänglig även efter workshopen Plan för workshopen ● Introduktion. Olika typer av OER, Creative Commonslicenser, samt hur man hittar OER och andra kostnadsfria lärresurser. Exempel på söktjänster, samt samlingar med OER och videoresurser som kan undersökas. Användning och redigering av YouTubevideos (10 min) ● Arbete i mindre grupper om 2-4 personer. Grupperna har tillgång till listor med passande sökverktyg för att hitta användbara OER och videoresurser. De resurser som har hittats sparas på en gemensam plats med webbverktyget Padlet (50 min) ● Sammanfattning. Alla resultat från sessionen kommer att finnas tillgängliga på en Padletyta som finns kvar efter workshopen så att deltagarna kan fortsätta att dela idéer och undersöka resurser som har hittats. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss how teacher’s leadership can be used as a teaching method in web based language education. The environments that offer online courses provide a wide field for discussion on the contact between teacher and student. My intention is to contribute to the debate on teacher leadership in online courses. In my earlier studies on leadership, I have explored how some religious leaders affected different social movements in Brazil during the military dictatorship (1964-1985). Pruth (2004) by examining the three kinds of legitimacy described by Max Weber I aimed at seeing and analyzing how religious leaders used different teaching methods to explain their messages to ordinary citizens. Thus my research showed how educational leadership is a way to get people to reach their goals. I became interested in the subject teacher’s leadership whenI participated in a survey of the teaching methods of language courses in Dalarna University which is funded by the NGL Center of Dalarna University. In this project, we have made interviews with the teachers, undertaken the course plans (in the language department at Dalarna University) and categorized the learning outcomes. A questionnaire was constructed based on the learning outcomes and then either sent out remotely to teachers or completed face to face through interviews. The answers provided to the questionnaires enabled the project to identify many differences in how language teachers interact with their students but also, the way of giving feedback, motivating and helping students, types of class activities and materials used. This made me aware of how teachers use their leadership or not in their teaching. My focus is to look at the relationship between teachers and students as an important part of the development and quality of online courses. The teacher's performance on campus is different from online courses. I want to understand how the contact between teachers and students in online courses develop and look at how students can make use of this contact and what influence the teacher's leadership has on the ability for the students to achieve the goals of their course

This essay looks at slash, a genre within fanfiction, from the perspective of Sedgwick’s theory of the closet, which reflects on the concealing mechanisms associated with homosexuality. While the real author stays in the closet, disguised behind a pseudonym, slash texts present homosexual themes in a very explicit way, often relying on humor or subversive elements. Between these two spheres, the real author and the text, we can find what we call the author’s voice, conscious about the existing homophobic structures, a voice that uses different strategies to shield itself against them. Internet, with the possibility to stay anonymous, serves as a social closet where the masked authors create texts that subvert heteronormativity.

This paper seeks to answer the research question "How does the flipped classroom affect students’ learning strategies?" In e-learning research, several studies have focused on how students and teachers perceive the flipped classroom approach. In general, these studies have reported pleasing results. Nonetheless, few, if any, studies have attempted to find out the potential effects of the flipped classroom approach on how students learn. This study was based on two cases: 1) a business modelling course and 2) a research methodology course. In both cases, participating students were from information systems courses at Dalarna University in Sweden. Recorded lectures replaced regular lectures. The recorded lectures were followed by seminars that focused on the learning content of each lecture in various ways. Three weeks after the final seminar, we arranged for two focus group interviews to take place in each course, with 8 to 10 students participating in each group. We asked open questions on how the students thought they had been affected and more dedicated questions that were generated from a literature study on the effects of flipped classroom courses. These questions dealt with issues about mobility, the potential for repeating lectures, formative feedback, the role of seminars, responsibility, empowerment, lectures before seminars, and any problems encountered. Our results show that, in general, students thought differently about learning after the courses in relation to more traditional approaches, especially regarding the need to be more active. Most students enjoyed the mobility aspect and the accessibility of recorded lectures, although a few claimed it demanded a more disciplined attitude. Most students also expressed a feeling of increased activity and responsibility when participating in seminars. Some even felt empowered because they could influence seminar content. The length of and possibility to navigate in recorded lectures was also considered important. The arrangement of the seminar rooms should promote face-to-face discussions. Finally, the types of questions and tasks were found to affect the outcomes of the seminars. The overall conclusion with regard to students’ learning strategies is that to be an active, responsible, empowered, and critical student you have to be an informed student with possibilities and mandate to influence how, where and when to learn and be able to receive continuous feedback during the learning process. Flipped classroom can support such learning.

The organic fertilizer can be a viable alternative in the production of forage grasses, however there is little information regarding doses and composition of the major organic fertilizers. The aim of this paper was to verify the influence of the different doses of organic compost produced from two types of poultry litter on the structural, morphogenetic and productive characteristics of Brachiaria brizantha cv 'Piatã'. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design in a factorial scheme l with parcel subdivided in time. The parcels were composed by six treatments: two types of compost (poultry litter based in sugar cane and napier grass) in three doses (100, 200 and 300kg ha-1 equivalent N.) and the subparcels by the four different periods of cut. The composts were applied in a unique dose, after the uniformization cut, at the quantities: 11,36 and 11,83, 22,73 and 23,67, 34,09 and 35,50 g pot-1 for the poultry litter based in sugar cane and napier grass, respectively which are equivalent to the rates of 0, 100, 200 and 300kg ha-1 of N. The variables measured were: dry matter production (DMP), leaf appearance rate (LApR), phyllochron, leaf elongation dose (LER) and shoots elongation rate (SER), number of green leaves (NGL), final size of the leaf (FSL). No significant difference between the types of composts and in the interaction compost x doses was observed, thus, both could be used without the risk of loss in the use of the nutrients by the plants evaluated in the experiment. There was a significant difference between the DMP, LApR, phyllochron, LER, SER, NGL and FSL because of the increasing rates of nitrogen, followed by a linear model of prediction. The effect of the periods of slaughter was also observed, where the slaughters carried out in the summer presented a better performance over the morphogenetic and structural features evaluated.

[EN] An assessment of the concentrations of thirteen different therapeutic pharmaceutical compounds was conducted on water samples obtained from different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) using solid phase extraction and high- and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (HPLC-MS/MS and UHPLC-MS/MS), was carried out. The target compounds included ketoprofen and naproxen (anti-inflammatories), bezafibrate (lipid-regulating), carbamazepine (anticonvulsant), metamizole (analgesic), atenolol (?-blocker), paraxanthine (stimulant), fluoxetine (antidepressant), and levofloxacin, norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin and sarafloxacin (fluoroquinolone antibiotics). The relative standard deviations obtained in method were below 11%, while the detection and quantification limits were in the range of 0.3 ? 97.4 ng·L-1 and 1.1 ? 324.7 ng·L-1, respectively. The water samples were collected from two different WWTPs located on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain over a period of one year. The first WWTP (denoted as WWTP1) used conventional activated sludge for the treatment of wastewater, while the other plant (WWTP2) employed a membrane bioreactor system for wastewater treatment. Most of the pharmaceutical compounds detected in this study during the sampling periods were found to have concentrations ranging between 0.02 and 34.81 ?g·L-1.

[EN] The presence of emerging contaminants has been previously described in reclaimed water and groundwater of Gran Canaria (Spain). Despite of the environmental risk associated to irrigation with reclaimed water (R), this practice is necessary considering sustainability of the hydrological cycle in semiarid zones, especially regarding agricultural activity. The aim of this study was: i) to analyse the evolution during two years of contaminants of emerging concern, priority substances (2008/105/EC) and heavy metals in reclaimed water (R) and in a volcanic aquifer in the NE of Gran Canaria where a golf course has been irrigated with R since 1976 and ii) to relate this presence with physicochemical water properties and hydrogeological media. Reclaimed water and groundwater (GW) were monitoring quarterly from July 2009 to September 2011. Sorption and degradation processes in soil account for more compounds being detected in R. Diazinon and chlorfenvinphos were detected always in R and terbuthylazine, terbutryn and diuron at 90% of frequency. Considering all the samples, the most frequent compounds were chlorpyrifos ethyl, fluorene, phenanthrene and pyrene. Although their concentrations were frequently below 50 ngL-1, some contaminants, were occasionally detected at higher concentrations. Chlorpyrifos ethyl and diuron are priority substances detected frequently and at high concentrations so they must be included in monitoring studies. Geology and location seem to be related to the emerging compounds presence due to occasional contamination events (not related to R irrigation) and therefore not to an existence of a dangerous diffuse contamination level. Thus, it is preferable to select wells with less stable chemical water quality, in order to monitor the risk of emerging compounds presence. Considering the relationship between contaminant presence, chemical water quality, seasonal variation, hydrogeological characteristics and wells location we can conclude that chlorpyrifos ethyl and diuron were the most dangerous priority substances in terms of GW quality so they must be included in all of the monitoring studies, at least in Canary Islands.

[EN]This study presents the evaluation of seven pharmaceutical compounds belonging to different commonly used therapeutic classes in seawater samples from coastal areas of Gran Canaria Island. The target compounds include atenolol (antihypertensive), acetaminophen (analgesic), norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin (antibiotics), carbamazepine (antiepileptic) and ketoprofen and diclofenac (anti-inflammatory). Solid phase extraction (SPE) was used for the extraction and preconcentration of the samples, and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was used for the determination of the compounds. Under optimal conditions, the recoveries obtained were in the range of 78.3% to 98.2%, and the relative standard deviations were less than 11.8%. The detection and quantification limits of the method were in the ranges of 0.1–2.8 and 0.3–9.3 ng·L−1, respectively. The developed method was applied to evaluate the presence of these pharmaceutical compounds in seawater from four outfalls in Gran Canaria Island (Spain) during one year. Ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin were found in a large number of samples in a concentration range of 9.0–3551.7 ng·L−1. Low levels of diclofenac, acetaminophen and ketoprofen were found sporadically.

[ES]La comunidad científica internacional ha mostrado su preocupación en las últimas décadas sobre la presencia de hormonas esteroideas en el medio ambiente, las cuales han sido catalogadas como “compuestos disruptores endocrinos” (EDCs). Las hormonas pueden llegar al medio a través de diferentes vías, siendo la fuente principal la descarga al medio de los efluentes de las estaciones depuradoras de aguas residuales (EDARs), debido a la eliminación incompleta de estos compuestos que se produce en ellas. Las concentraciones de hormonas presentes en el medio acuático suelen ser del orden de ng·L-1, por lo que se necesitan metodologías analíticas sensibles y selectivas para su determinación

Muitos oxidantes químicos reativos acarretam na ruptura de estruturas moleculares complexas de vários tipos de compostos orgânicos decompondo-as em estruturas mais simples e propiciando condições melhores para uma efetiva ação de micro-organismos na degradação biológica. A presença de hormônios, entre eles o 17β-estradiol, em estações de tratamento de esgoto e em águas subterrâneas e superficiais mostra a necessidade de uma avaliação dos processos de tratamento convencionais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi a análise e remoção de hormônios através de técnicas de cloração e ozonização de amostras reais de águas de saída de filtro de estações de tratamento de água (ETAs), operadas pelo Serviço Autônomo de Água e Esgoto (SAAE) de São Carlos (ETA Centro), que capta águas dos ribeirão Feijão e córrego Espraiado e pela Sociedade de Abastecimento de Água e Saneamento S/A (SANASA) de Campinas (ETAs 3 e 4), que capta águas do rio Atibaia. Foram realizados ensaios contaminando-se as amostras com 17β-estradiol, que é o hormônio natural mais presente no meio ambiente, em concentração de 6.000 ng L-1, submetendo-se tratamento com dosagens em torno de 0,5 e 2,0 mg L-1 desses oxidantes, em tempos de contato de, respectivamente, 10 e 30 min. As amostras submetidas à contaminação e tratamento e as de controle (sem contaminação e tratamento) foram analisadas através da remoção do 17β-estradiol com a verificação da atividade estrogênica das amostras por ensaios de Sistema de Expressão de Estrogênio Induzida por Levedura Bioluminescente (BLYES), que apresentou-se como uma ferramenta simples. Os resultados apresentados neste trabalho demonstram que a oxidação por ozônio se mostrou mais eficiente do que aquela por cloro para a remoção da atividade estrogênica causada, única e exclusivamente, pelo 17β-estradiol para uma dosagem inicial desse hormônio relativamente alta (6.000 ng L-1). Todavia, em todos os ensaios a concentração final da atividade estrogênica permaneceu acima do limite de quantificação desses hormônio, indicando que a remoção não foi completa, mesmo em condições favoráveis, isto é, matriz limpa, com padrões de potabilidade para os parâmetros físico-químicos.

Study on Napier grass leaf (NGL), stem (NGS) and leaf and stem (NGT) was carried out. Proximate, ultimate and structural analyses were evaluated. Functional groups and crystalline components in the biomass were examined. Pyrolysis study was conducted in a thermogravimetric analyzer under nitrogen atmosphere of 20 mL/min at constant heating rate of 10 K/min. The results reveal that Napier grass biomass has high volatile matter, higher heating value, high carbon content and lower ash, nitrogen and sulfur contents. Structural analysis shows that the biomass has considerable cellulose and lignin contents which are good candidates for good quality bio-oil production. From the pyrolysis study, degradation of extractives, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin occurred at temperature around 478, 543, 600 and above 600 K, respectively. Kinetics of the process was evaluated using reaction order model. New equations that described the process were developed using the kinetic parameters and data compared with experimental data. The results of the models fit well to the experimental data. The proposed models may be a reliable means for describing thermal decomposition of lignocellulosic biomass under nitrogen atmosphere at constant heating rate.
