An optimal feedback control of broadband frequency up-conversion in BBO crystal is experimentally demonstrated by shaping femto-second laser pulses based on genetic algorithm, and the frequency up-conversion efficiency can be enhanced by similar to 16%. SPIDER results show that the optimal laser pulses have shorter pulse-width with the little negative chirp than the original pulse with the little positive chirp. By modulating the fundamental spectral phase with periodic square distribution on SLM-256, the frequency up-conversion can be effectively controlled by the factor of about 17%. The experimental results indicate that the broadband frequency up-conversion efficiency is related to both of second harmonic generation (SHG) and sum frequency generation (SFG), where the former depends on the fundamental pulse intensity, and the latter depends on not only the fundamental pulse intensity but also the fundamental pulse spectral phase. The molecular arrangement in organic thin films is crucial for their increasing technological applications. Here, we use vibrational spectroscopy by sum-frequency generation (SFG) to study the ordering of polyelectrolyte layers adsorbed on silica for all steps of layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly. In situ measurements during adsorption and rinsing showed that the adsorbed polymer has a disordered conformation and confirmed surface charge overcompensation upon polyelectrolyte adsorption by probing the interfacial electric field. In dry films, the polymer chains acquired a net orientational ordering, which was affected, however, by the adsorption of subsequent layers. Such a detailed characterization may allow the control of LbL film structure and functionality with unprecedented power.

The THz optoelectronics field is now maturing and semiconductor-based THz antenna devices are becoming more widely implemented as analytical tools in spectroscopy and imaging. Photoconductive (PC) THz switches/antennas are driven optically typically using either an ultrashort-pulse laser or an optical signal composed of two simultaneous longitudinal wavelengths which are beat together in the PC material at a THz difference frequency. This allows the generation of (photo)carrier pairs which are then captured over ultrashort timescales usually by defects and trapping sites throughout the active material lattice. Defect-implanted PC materials with relatively high bandgap energy are typically used and many parameters such as carrier mobility and PC gain are greatly compromised. This paper demonstrates the implementation of low bandgap energy InAs quantum dots (QDs) embedded in standard crystalline GaAs as both the PC medium and the ultrafast capture mechanism in a PC THz antenna. This semiconductor structure is grown using standard MBE methods and allows the device to be optically driven efficiently at wavelengths up to ~1.3 µm, in this case by a single tunable dual-mode QD diode laser.

Generation of continuous wave radiation at terahertz (THz) frequencies from a heterodyne source based on quantum-dot (QD) semiconductor materials is reported. The source comprises an active region characterised by multiple alternating photoconductive and QD carrier trapping layers and is pumped by two infrared optical signals with slightly offset wavelengths, allowing photoconductive device switching at the signals? difference frequency ~1 THz.(C) 2012 American Institute of Physics.

Chalcogenide suspended core fibers are a valuable solution to obtain supercontinuum generation of light in the mid-infrared, thanks to glass high transparency, high index contrast, small core diameter and widely-tunable dispersion. In this work the dispersion and nonlinear properties of several chalcogenide suspended core mi-crostructured fibers are numerically evaluated, and the effects of all the structural parameters are investigated. Optimization of the design is carried out to provide a fiber suitable for wide-band supercontinuum generation in the mid-infrared.

A compact, all-room-temperature, widely tunable, continuous wave laser source in the green spectral region (502.1–544.2 nm) with a maximum output power of 14.7 mW is demonstrated. This was made possible by utilizing second-harmonic generation (SHG) in a periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (PPKTP) crystal waveguide pumped by a quantum-well external-cavity fiber-coupled diode laser and exploiting the multimode-matching approach in nonlinear crystal waveguides. The dual-wavelength SHG in the wavelength region between 505.4 and 537.7 nm (with a wavelength difference ranging from 1.8 to 32.3 nm) and sum-frequency generation in a PPKTP waveguide is also demonstrated.

The product selectivity can be controlled by adding acetic acid in feed over vanadium phosphate (VPO) in gas phase oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH), in which cyclohexane and cyclohexene are oxidized to cyclohexene and 1,3-cyclohexadiene (1,3-CHD), respectively, at almost 100% selectivity. This approach is also an efficient method to capture the very unstable intermediates in the mechanism study.

The technology of seismic acquirement has been more and more intact in both land area and marine area, however, since the acquirement equipment can not handle the tasks in this both two kinds of prospects at the same time, it is very hard to acquire in the prospect of seashore area, and also the quality of the raw data is poor, the related work in seashore area has been a tough task. With the development of the level of exploration, acquired equipment and technology, a certain series of processing methods has been built up, which enhanced the resolving power, the ratio of signal to noise and the quality of imaging, these methods could meet most of the requirements of exploration and the development. What is more, more and more nowadays prospects are composed by two or more 3D sub-prospect, the differences between frequencies, energy levels and the ratios of signal to noise are definitely obvious, we can not perform finely construct analysis and interpretation of reservoir without solving these problems in matching different raw data. As for the prospect that composed by both seashore and marine ones, through the analysis on the characteristics on frequency, amplitude, polarity and multiples of land prospect and marine prospect, the methods on how to eliminate those differences mentioned above were researched, and this paper gives a series of methods includes the computing of matching factor, recognizing of time difference, recognizing of phase difference, matching frequency, collapsing of abnormal energy, frequency compensating and so on, to fulfill the attenuations of energy difference, frequency difference, time difference and phase difference, and what is more, improve the innovative methods: includes the quantities method to synthetically and automatically recognize time difference and phase difference on the basis of signal match technology and according to statistic rule. And distinct the differences on phase and frequency characteristics of received raw data between velocity seismometer and piezoelectricity seismometer, and deduces that there are 90 degrees gap between data from these two seismometers, thirdly, synthetically apply zone abnormal frequency processing, surface consistent abnormal frequency compensate, residual abnormal frequency compensate, stack time equilibrium and optimize the processing seis-flow, deal with the would-be problems, such as low signal and noise rate, low resolution, poor imaging and poor state of consistent. The combinatorial frequency generation by the periodic stacks of binary layers of anisotropic nonlinear dielectrics is examined. The products of nonlinear scattering are characterised in terms of the three-wave mixing processes. It is shown that the intensity of the scattered waves of combinatorial frequencies is strongly influenced by the constitutive and geometrical parameters of the anisotropic layers, and the frequency ratio and angles of incidence of pump waves. The enhanced efficiency of the frequency conversion at Wolf-Bragg resonances has been demonstrated for the lossless and lossy-layered structures. © 2012 O. V. Shramkova and A. G. Schuchinsky.

A new strategy for remote reconfiguration of an antenna array far field radiation pattern is described. The scheme uses a pilot tone co-transmitted with a carrier signal from a location distant from that of a receive antenna array whose far field pattern is to be reconfigured. By mixing the co-transmitted signals locally at each antenna element in the array an IF signal is formed which defines an equivalent array spacing that can be made variable by tuning the frequency of the pilot tone with respect to the RF carrier. This makes the antenna array factor hence far field spatial characteristic reconfigurable on receive. For a 10 x 1 microstrip patch element array we show that the receive pattern can be made to vary from 35 to 10 degrees half power beam width as the difference frequency between the pilot and the carrier at 2.45 GHz varies between 10 MHz and 500 MHz carrier.

Modern wireless systems are expected to operate in multiple frequency bands and support diverse communications standards to provide the high volume and speed of data transmission. Today's major limitations of their performance are imposed by interference, spurious emission and noise generated by high-power carriers in antennas and passive components of the RF front-end. Passive Intermodulation (PIM), which causes the combinatorial frequency generation in the operational bands, presents a primary challenge to signal integrity, system efficacy and data throughput. © 2013 IEEE.

The combinatorial frequency generation by the periodic stacks of magnetically biased semiconductor layers has been modelled in a self-consistent problem formulation, taking into account the nonlinear dynamics of carriers. It is shown that magnetic bias not only renders nonreciprocity of the three-wave mixing process but also significantly enhances the nonlinear interactions in the stacks, especially at the frequencies close to the intrinsic magneto-plasma resonances of the constituent layers. The main mechanisms and properties of the combinatorial frequency generation and emission from the stacks are illustrated by the simulation results, and the effects of the individual layer parameters and the structure arrangement on the stack nonlinear and nonreciprocal response are discussed. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.
