Design and Programming of Cathodic Protection for SHIPS

In order to minimize the risk of failures or major renewals of hull structures during the ship's expected life span, it is imperative that the precaution must be taken with regard to an adequate margin of safety against any one or combination of failure modes including excessive yielding, buckling, brittle fracture, fatigue and corrosion. The most efficient system for combating underwater corrosion is 'cathodic protection'. The basic principle of this method is that the ship's structure is made cathodic, i.e. the anodic (corrosion) reactions are suppressed by the application of an opposing current and the ship is there by protected. Design and synthesis of short antimicrobial peptides for plant protection. Study of their mode of action

Aquesta tesi doctoral està basada en el desenvolupament de nous agents antimicrobians derivats del pèptid híbrid cecropina A-melitina WKLFKKILKVL-NH2 (Pep3) que siguin sostenibles i útils per al control de malalties de plantes. Es van dissenyar i sintetitzar més de 133 anàlegs de Pep3 mitjançant química combinatòria. Es van obtenir anàlegs de Pep3 amb una elevada activitat contra fitopatògens i que presentaven baixa toxicitat. Els millors anàlegs van presentar eficàcies comparables amb pesticides de referència en la prevenció d'infeccions causades per fitopatògens. Es va estudiar el mecanisme d'acció de KKLFKKILKYL-NH2 (BP100) investigant la seva interacció amb models de membrana mitjançant tècniques espectroscòpiques. Es va observar la capacitat de BP100 a induir la permeabilització, la neutralització, i l'agregació de vesícules lipídiques aniòniques a una determinada concentració llindar. Es va deduir una equació que relaciona la CMI d'un pèptid antimicrobià amb la constant de partició i la concentració llindar en la membrana.

Privacy By Design e Data Protection Officer: aspetti normativi e buone prassi nel trattamento dei dati personali.

La Tesi tratta i concetti di Privacy e Protezione dei Dati personali, contestualizzandone il quadro normativo e tecnologico con particolare riferimento ai contesti emergenti rappresentati – per un verso – dalla proposta di nuovo Regolamento generale sulla protezione dei dati personali (redatto dal Parlamento Europeo e dal Consiglio dell’Unione Europea), – per un altro – dalla metodologia di progettazione del Privacy by Design e – per entrambi – dalla previsione di un nuovo attore: il responsabile per la protezione dei dati personali (Privacy Officer). L’elaborato si articola su tre parti oltre introduzione, conclusioni e riferimenti bibliografici. La prima parte descrive il concetto di privacy e le relative minacce e contromisure (tradizionali ed emergenti) con riferimento ai contesti di gestione (aziendale e Big Data) e al quadro normativo vigente. La seconda Parte illustra in dettaglio i principi e le prassi del Privacy by Design e la figura del Privacy Officer formalmente riconosciuta dal novellato giuridico. La terza parte illustra il caso di studio nel quale vengono analizzate tramite una tabella comparativa minacce e contromisure rilevabili in un contesto aziendale.

This article describes the results of an investigation aimed at the analysis methods used in the design of the protections against scour phenomenon on offshore wind farms in transitional waters, using medium and large diameter monopile type deep foundations.

Design of scour Protection Systems in Offshore Wind Farms

Scour compromises the operation of offshore facilities. This article describes the results of an investigation aimed at the analysis of different methods used in the scour protection systems design at offshore wind farms. The study is focused on transitional waters, where monopile foundations present medium or large diameters. Using the experience of offshore wind farms currently installed, a new design formula is proposed. All of this with the aim of improving a preliminary design of scour protection systems considering maritime parameters
