In this paper, the electrochemical behaviour of molibdosilicic heteropoly complex with dysprosium K10H3[Dy(SiMo11O39)(2)]. xH(2)O [denoted as Dy(SiMo11)(2)] was studied. Voltammetric behavior of this complex was greatly influenced by pH of solutions. The polypyrrole (PPy) film doped with this complex was prepared by electropolymerization of pyrrole in the presence of Dy(SiMo11)(2) under potential cycling conditions. The microenvironment within the PPy film has an effect on the electrochemical behavior of Dy(SiMo11)(2) entrapped in the film. The film electrode can catalyze the reduction of ClO3- and BrO3-.

The transfer of bis-1:11 molybdosilicate heteropolyanion with dysprosium across the water/nitrobenzene interface has been investigated by chronopotentiometry with linear current scanning and cyclic voltammetry. The strandard transfer potential and Gibbs energy estimated from cyclic voltammetry were 0.102V and -39.5kJ.mol(-1), respectively. The kinetic parameters of the transfer were determinated by chronopotentiometry with the linear current scanning.

Dysprosium and ytterbium monophosphides have been prepared by the solid state reaction. The optical and electrical properties have been studied. Evidence that DyP and YbP are semiconductors has been obtained from the study of the absorption spectrum, the negative temperature coefficient of resistance and the rectifying effect. Their energy gaps are determined as 1.15 eV for DyP and 1.30 eV for YbP, electric conduction type is n-type, resistivities are about 10(-2) ohm cm and Hall mobility is 8.5-80 cm2/Vs. The p-n junction is formed on the LnP/Si.

50nm thick nanogranular polycrystalline dysprosium thin films have been prepared via ultra-high vacuum DC sputtering on SiO2 and Si wafers. The maximum in-plane spontaneous magnetization at T = 4K was found to be µ0MS,4K(C) = (3.28±0.26)T for samples deposited on wafers heated to 350°C with a Neel point of TN(C) = (173±2)K and a ferromagnetic transition at TC(C) = (80±2)K, measured via zero-field-cooled – field-cooled magnetization measurements, close to single-crystal values. The slightly reduced magnetization is explained in the light of a metastable face-centered cubic crystal phase which occurred at the seed interface and granularity related effects, that are still noticeably influential despite an in-plane magnetic easy axis. As deposited samples showed reduced magnetization of µ0MS,4K(A) = (2.26±0.18)T, however their ferromagnetic transition shifted to a much higher temperature of TC(A) = (172±2)K and the antiferromagnetic phase was completely suppressed probably as a result of strain.

The focus of study in this paper is the class of packing problems. More specifically, it deals with the placement of a set of N circular items of unitary radius inside an object with the aim of minimizing its dimensions. Differently shaped containers are considered, namely circles, squares, rectangles, strips and triangles. By means of the resolution of non-linear equations systems through the Newton-Raphson method, the herein presented algorithm succeeds in improving the accuracy of previous results attained by continuous optimization approaches up to numerical machine precision. We consider the problems of finding the maximum number of vertex-disjoint triangles (VTP) and edge-disjoint triangles (ETP) in a simple graph. Both problems are NP-hard. The algorithm with the best approximation ratio known so far for these problems has ratio 3/2 + epsilon, a result that follows from a more general algorithm for set packing obtained by Hurkens and Schrijver [On the size of systems of sets every t of which have an SDR, with an application to the worst-case ratio of heuristics for packing problems, SIAM J. Discrete Math. 2(1) (1989) 68-72]. We present improvements on the approximation ratio for restricted cases of VTP and ETP that are known to be APX-hard: we give an approximation algorithm for VTP on graphs with maximum degree 4 with ratio slightly less than 1.2, and for ETP on graphs with maximum degree 5 with ratio 4/3. In fact, in this scene, both A and B are online. A is in a classroom at the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands, and B is in a television studio at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. The two locations are connected through video conference and, in each space, a local audience watches the local performer in the room, and the remote performer projected on a screen. The performers are captured in profile, and appear to be looking at computer screens in front of them but cannot actually see one another. The text is consciously banal, composed to replicate the broken rhythms and sequences, flattened tone and repetitions of scrolling words in a text box on a screen. Information about presence and absence (A or B is offline or online) is spoken as text. Although the two performers speak in accents that declare their different language/ cultures, the vernacular is generic 'internetslang'. The relatively monotonous and unpunctuated delivery of the textual rhythms is interrupted and counterpointed by a sound lag of nearly a second, and by a faint audio echo as one voice 'lands' in the second location. Its orchestration allows the sound fracture and dispersal in some moments. In other moments, the actors anticipate or absorb the gaps in transmission, driving the speech rhythms through so that the utterance 'arrives' precisely at the end of the prompt line.

The compound dysprosium(III) 2-metoxybenzoate, {[Dy(2-MeO-Bz)2μ-(2-MeO-Bz)(H2O)2]2·4H2O}n (2-MeO-Bz = 2- methoxybenzoate), was synthesized from a reaction mixture containing DyCl3 and Na(2-MeO-Bz), and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecular structure showed dinuclear units in which each Dy(III) ion is coordinated by nine oxygen atoms. The carboxylato groups are bound to the dysprosium centers in two modes: bidentate chelating and tridentate chelating-bridging. Besides this, the occurrence of hydrogen bonds involving a coordinated water molecule and carboxylato groups leads to the formation of helicoidal chains along the crystal lattice, resulting in a supramolecular one-dimensional polymer. 2008 © The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry.

Two novel coordination polymers with the formula {[Ln(2)(2,5-tdc)(3)(dmso)(2)].H2O}(n) (Ln = Tb(III) for (1) and Dy(III) for (2)), (2,5-tdc(2-) = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate and dmso = dimethylsulfoxide) have been synthesized by the diffusion method and characterized by thermal analysis, vibrational spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Structure analysis reveals that 2,5-tdc(2-) play a versatile role toward different lanthanide ions to form three-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in which the lanthanides ions are heptacoordinated. Photophysical properties were studied using excitation and emission spectra, where the photoluminescence data show the high emission intensity of the characteristic transitions D-5(4 ->) F-7(J) (J= 6, 5, 4 and 3) for (1) and (F9/2 -> HJ)-F-4-H-6 (J = 15/2, 13/2 and 11/2) for (2), indicating that 2,5-tdc(2-) is a good sensitizer.
