The erosion is a natural process of detachment, transport and deposition of soil and rock particles from one place to another. Human activities with no previous planning may accelerate this process, causing several damages to the environment and to society. In order to control the acceleration of these erosion processes caused by humans, prevention and improvement initiatives emerge. Regarding works which interfere directly in some of the natural resources, these initiatives must respect the intrinsic physical properties of the area of interest, if they aim to obtain effective results. Based on this scenario, this work proposes a few methods of accelerated linear erosion prevention, control and recovery in a specific area of the municipal district of Ipeúna (SP). For that matter, this study is based on a method of physiographic compartmentalization of the area, considering and integrating soil, relief, geology and the use and land cover properties of the study area. Plus, a flowchart with general orientations regarding management of eroded areas was produced, focused on the control and recovery of linear erosion. The result demonstrates the importance of careful erosion control, respecting the physical properties of each physiographic unit. The vegetative and mechanical conservationists methods, and the discipline of water flow, have found wide applicability in the study area.

Pipelines are linear engineering works, designed mostly for transporting oil and its derivatives for long distances, furnishing even the farthermost zones of the country. Due to oil sector needs to ensure for the safety and conservation of its properties, several geotechnical studies are being held at the pipelines field, in order to preserve this important transportation, and also to prevent accidents, which might seriously compromise the environment and the population who lives around it. The OSBRA pipeline, who connects the city of Paulínia to the capital Brasília, is one of these engineering works that deserves to be pointed out. This research, performed at the Ribeirão da Prata Basin, was a pilot study conducted with the main objective of testing the current methodology efficiency, for future applications in the closest watersheds to the OSBRA pipeline. The objective of this research is to analyze flood wave and debris flow processes in a non-fictional watershed, by comparing two different kinds of methods: the first one based on simulation models (software ‘ABC 6’), and the other one by flood wave and debris flow susceptibility mapping. The results from the hydrological modeling were both hydrographs and ietographs that estimated values of outputs and infiltration. To construct the susceptibility maps were necessary three other maps: ground use and occupation maps, divided according to the different protection degrees that were offered to the ground; maps of dam locations in the area and physiographic compartimentation maps, divided according to the local geology. To complete the methodology, the results were collected from both methods for comparison. Given the intense expansion of the industries in Brazil and the discovery of hydrocarbons in the pre-salt layer of the Santos and Campos Basin, there is a need to expand the distribution of oil and gas network in the country. The present work aims to present the development of susceptibility map by two distinct methods of two events (debris flows and full wave), applied to the establishment of pipelines on Ribeirão da Prata Basin. The research area covers two municipalities: São João da Boa Vista and Águas da Prata, in total 145 km2. In the paper was used the methodology proposed by Zaine (2011) for the physiographic subdivision method, which uses geological maps, geomorphological maps, digital terrain models and aerial photographs, used to extract the main elements of the physical environment, as rivers, lines, ridges, tops forms and valley forms and historical processes. Thus, the basin was divided into 11 physiographic zones, considering the following elements: thickness of soil, rock type, geomorphology, amplitude, ridges orientation, erosion occurences and mass movements. Were subsequently performed location maps of dams, that had as main purpose to localize major dams in the study area along with their area and perimeter of the reservoir, and land use map that subdivided the area in woody vegetation, permanent culture, temporary culture and urban area. Along with the preparation of the auxiliar maps was conducted a field campaign with three days and approximately 2 points per km2, which aimed to better understand the physical environment and check the main peculiarities of the study area. Geological-geotechnical problems affecting escarps as well as embankment and fill slopes of roads and motorways may generate different types of unsteadiness, which are mainly arisen from the deficient knowledge about the physical environment. This results in unsuitable engineering projects and inadequate executions, which can be worsened by an occasional inappropriate maintenance of the construction. A geologically-geotechnically characterization of escarps and slopes is crucial in order to prevent these problems. This work deals with a geological-geotechnical study of 1:10.000 scale mapping in a stretch of a local road (CHQ-40) at the Serra de Itaqueri, Charqueada town, State of São Paulo. The stretch is known by several physical problems as erosion and mass movement. The methods of study were based on an integrative analysis of the diverse elements of the physical environment by using aerial photographs - to obtain the physiographic compartmentalization of terrain units - as well as field work - to accomplish the evaluation of the units by employing sketch lists. To achieve this, we selected several techniques in order to identify and classify different types of existing problems as erosion, landslide in embankments and fill slopes, rockfall, block rolling, among others. We also included the analysis of soil horizon, thickness and composition. The geological-geotechnical mapping resulted in six units: 1- Sandstones in cuesta’s backhill; 2 – Basalts in cuesta’s front; 3- Sandstones in cuesta’s front; 4 – Talus and colluvial deposits at cuesta’s foothill; 5- Sandstones of the Piramboia Formation in hillside; and 6 – Colluvial soil in the hill top. This research presents the result of the engineering geological mapping in a 1:50.000 scale, in Bairro do Peão region, in Piracaia (SP), represented by means of homogeneous units which are susceptible to superficial dynamic processes. To serve as basis for the elaboration of a Chart of Susceptibility to Processes of Superficial Dynamic, a series of physical samples was collected, considering erosive processes and registers of information of usage and soil occupation. The procedure used for elaborating the geotechnical chart is based on Vedovello (2000), which suggests the physiographic compartimentation of the area through photointerpretation and further geotechnical characterization of the selected samples. The geotechnical characterization of the samples was made by identifying the features and properties of the material and forms of the physical environment determining the geotechnical conditions through geological-geotechnical profile descriptions typical of/ peculiar to each unit defined in the area. Thus, for each unit selected, the susceptibility level was established in very high, high, average and low, as well as the prevalent erosive processes.

The act of containing water is one of the most practiced by the civilizations along history, in the will to increase the offer of water to many uses. The raise of environmental worries surround many human activities has given a big attention to dams. Indeed, the environmental consequences about dams are proporcional to their size, what gives to the big dams a more detailed Project and a bigger political concerning that increases the built, estability and maintenance of them. Then, the projects of medium and small dams are weak, limitaded to handbooks, textbooks and empirical recommendations, while the constructions of small dams are growing everytime more. With that being said, the present work intends to analise the geological and geotechnical conditionants that can cause break of small earth dams by making a case study in the Jaguari Mirim Watershed, located in the city of São João da Boa Vista (SP), and can be used to encourage the concern with small dams. In the area of study were identificaded, from satellite images, 248 dams. The map of physiographical compartmentalization defined by Pilachevsky (2013) was used to define the locations in the study área that would have bigger risk to the break of dams. Then, 9 of this dams were analised in field research, using references made by Cerri, Reis e Giordano (2011) and the risk of the analised dams were defined. A study about this type of structure is highly necessary to avoid big damages. An analysis of the geological and geotechnical conditionants that can cause break of dams guides the project in a way to avoid adverse consequences, especially when integrated with locacional conditions observed in the place of the dam’s building

This scientific research aimed at to analyse the susceptibility to debris flow of the watershed of Ribeirão do Roque (SP), focusing on the upstream areas of OSBRA pipeline. This is because, mass flow can cause damage to pipes, mainly due to conditioning hydro erosion of the land in the drainage crossings, including the undermining the banks of streams. Firstly, It was conducted a literature review, aiming to identify and understand the principal characteristics and conditions of debris flow. Secondly, the physical and anthropic factors and their respective weights of influence were selected and used to determine the mass flow susceptibility. It was selected the following physical factors: type and thickness of rocks, soil and unconsolidated materials; textural density; amplitude relief; relief slope; shaped valley; and shape of slopes. Such factors are present in the physiographic subdivision map of the study area. In addition, the anthropic attributes correspond to the classes contained in the land use map. Therefore, the physical and anthropic factors were integrated through the multi-criteria analysis in a GIS environment, generating a total susceptibility map of debris flow on the scale 1:50,000. The results showed that a significative part of the study area was classified as average susceptibility. However, it was identified areas with high susceptibility in the region in which the pipe cross the Ribeirão do Roque. Moreover, at which point the river presents a closed valley and a meander shape, without a fluvial plain that would be useful to attenuate the development of the process. Consequently, if a mass flow begins in any of these most susceptible regions located upstream of the pipe, the chances that the process develops by the river and causes the excavations of his bed are quite large. O objetivo principal do presente artigo corresponde em apresentar o mapa geológico-geotécnico em escala 1:50.000, bem como a caracterização das unidades correspondentes, de uma área, aproximada, de 480 km² na Serra do Mar e na baixada Santista (proximidades dos municípios de Cubatão e Santos, SP). O mapa geológico-geotécnico foi elaborado a partir da união do mapa de unidades de compartimentação do relevo, mapa geológico e das informações obtidas na pesquisa bibliográfica. Neste mapa são apresentadas 15 unidades geológico-geotécnicas, as quais são distribuídas segundo as áreas do Planalto Paulistano (3), a Serrania Costeira (6) e Baixadas Litorâneas (6). A presente dissertação consiste no estudo acústico de um módulo amovível para compartimentação interior, considerando um primeiro protótipo, ainda em desenvolvimento. É um elemento vertical de divisão de espaços interiores, pré-fabricado que não requer a utilização de calhas ou apoio técnico, de rápido e fácil posicionamento, ajustável ao pé direito do local onde é instalado, mantendo, ainda assim, as características chave de uma divisória convencional. Um conjunto de módulos deste tipo, dispostos linearmente, formarão um divisor que permitirá a personalização de qualquer área interior, nomeadamente habitações, escritórios, galerias, entre outros. A principal característica que diferencia este elemento das soluções existentes actualmente no mercado é a sua mobilidade depender exclusivamente de um conjunto de rolamentos integrados na base de cada módulo. Através de um sistema de elevação incorporado, o utilizador pode baixar o módulo, movê-lo para a posição desejada e voltar a elevá-lo até que este fique comprimido contra a laje do tecto, ficando assim estável. O trabalho realizado pretendeu aprofundar conhecimentos na área de acústica para que possam ser introduzidas modificações num segundo protótipo a ser desenvolvido futuramente. Dessa forma, realizaram-se diversos ensaios que decorreram no laboratório de acústica do LNEC. Inicialmente procedeu-se à materialização de um ensaio de absorção sonora, realizado para uma única tipologia do módulo, e efectuou-se um mapeamento de medições do nível de pressão sonora. A execução de adaptações no sistema e a abertura na parede, que separa as câmaras reverberantes, possibilitou a concretização de diversos ensaios de isolamento sonoro a sons aéreos para diferentes tipologias do mesmo. Os resultados destes ensaios permitiram não só concluir quais os materiais que deverão ser preferencialmente contemplados neste tipo de solução, com vista a um melhor desempenho acústico, como também adiantar dados adicionais que poderão ser relevantes na fase de projecto deste tipo de estruturas aligeiradas.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo a aferição dos impactos ambientais ocorridos ao longo da estrada São Domingos-Assomada, na ilha de Santiago na República de Cabo Verde, África Ocidental no período de 2003 a 2009, com ênfase sobre os compartimentos geomorfológicos e seus materiais estruturadores, bem como estabelecer medidas de minimização dos referidos impactos. O estudo ainda procurou mostrar que o monitoramento ambiental das obras da rodovia tem uma série de vantagens porque pode identificar tendências nocivas sobre as variáveis ambientais e sociais antes que seja tarde demais para minimizar ou prevenir seus impactos. Ao longo da pesquisa foram destacadas as principais atividades que originaram impactos ambientais causados pelas obras tanto na fase de reabilitação como na fase de exploração da via. Buscou-se ainda mostrar que a crescente intervenção antrópica ao longo da estrada tem repercutido cada vez mais intensamente sobre a dinâmica do relevo e nos processos de erosão do solo associados às práticas inadequadas de uso da terra. Os impactos ambientais ocorridos durante a exploração da via resultaram, sobretudo, na degradação dos compartimentos geomorfológicos, por estes se constituírem no principal suporte das demais organizações espaciais. Metodologicamente este trabalho abrangeu uma pesquisa aplicada de cunho descritivo e exploratório visando melhor identificar as alterações nos sistemas ambientais, decorrentes da implantação da estrada e das atividades antrópicas realizadas no seu entorno. A fim de estimar a repercussão das intervenções junto à população imediatamente afetada foram aplicadas entrevistas voltadas à avaliação da percepção dos riscos ambientais. A coleta de dados geomorfológicos em campo foi realizada mediante a observação in loco das condições ambientais e sua posterior cartografação em gabinete. Os resultados dessas foram cotejados com o levantamento da literatura especializada a fim de permitir o enquadramento coerente do grau dos agravos ambientais analisados. Os resultados do estudo apontaram que a degradação dos compartimentos geomorfológicos e suas formações superficiais não ocorrem unicamente em função da estrada, mas também pelas práticas tradicionais de uso da terra. Ainda foi possível constatar que no caso da estrada São Domingos – Assomada, as obras de recuperação não levam em conta à dinâmica do relevo, ou seja, não consideram os parâmetros morfogenéticos. Dessa forma, tais obras essenciais de infra-estrutura acabam, muitas vezes, durando pouco tempo, desperdiçando recursos financeiros que são escassos nos países em desenvolvimento.
