This paper investigates camera control for capturing bottle cap target images in the fault-detection system of an industrial production line. The main purpose is to identify the targeted bottle caps accurately in real time from the images. This is achieved by combining iterative learning control and Kalman filtering to reduce the effect of various disturbances introduced into the detection system. A mathematical model, together with a physical simulation platform is established based on the actual production requirements, and the convergence properties of the model are analyzed. It is shown that the proposed method enables accurate real-time control of the camera, and further, the gain range of the learning rule is also obtained. The numerical simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed method can not only reduce the effect of repeatable disturbances but also non-repeatable ones.

Ce mémoire s'intéresse à la reconstruction d'un modèle 3D à partir de plusieurs images. Le modèle 3D est élaboré avec une représentation hiérarchique de voxels sous la forme d'un octree. Un cube englobant le modèle 3D est calculé à partir de la position des caméras. Ce cube contient les voxels et il définit la position de caméras virtuelles. Le modèle 3D est initialisé par une enveloppe convexe basée sur la couleur uniforme du fond des images. Cette enveloppe permet de creuser la périphérie du modèle 3D. Ensuite un coût pondéré est calculé pour évaluer la qualité de chaque voxel à faire partie de la surface de l'objet. Ce coût tient compte de la similarité des pixels provenant de chaque image associée à la caméra virtuelle. Finalement et pour chacune des caméras virtuelles, une surface est calculée basée sur le coût en utilisant la méthode de SGM. La méthode SGM tient compte du voisinage lors du calcul de profondeur et ce mémoire présente une variation de la méthode pour tenir compte des voxels précédemment exclus du modèle par l'étape d'initialisation ou de creusage par une autre surface. Par la suite, les surfaces calculées sont utilisées pour creuser et finaliser le modèle 3D. Ce mémoire présente une combinaison innovante d'étapes permettant de créer un modèle 3D basé sur un ensemble d'images existant ou encore sur une suite d'images capturées en série pouvant mener à la création d'un modèle 3D en temps réel.

This paper presents the virtual environment implementation for project simulation and conception of supervision and control systems for mobile robots, that are capable to operate and adapting in different environments and conditions. This virtual system has as purpose to facilitate the development of embedded architecture systems, emphasizing the implementation of tools that allow the simulation of the kinematic conditions, dynamic and control, with real time monitoring of all important system points. For this, an open control architecture is proposal, integrating the two main techniques of robotic control implementation in the hardware level: systems microprocessors and reconfigurable hardware devices. The implemented simulator system is composed of a trajectory generating module, a kinematic and dynamic simulator module and of a analysis module of results and errors. All the kinematic and dynamic results shown during the simulation can be evaluated and visualized in graphs and tables formats, in the results analysis module, allowing an improvement in the system, minimizing the errors with the necessary adjustments optimization. For controller implementation in the embedded system, it uses the rapid prototyping, that is the technology that allows, in set with the virtual simulation environment, the development of a controller project for mobile robots. The validation and tests had been accomplish with nonholonomics mobile robots models with diferencial transmission. © 2008 IEEE.

Event-based visual servoing is a recently presented approach that performs the positioning of a robot using visual information only when it is required. From the basis of the classical image-based visual servoing control law, the scheme proposed in this paper can reduce the processing time at each loop iteration in some specific conditions. The proposed control method enters in action when an event deactivates the classical image-based controller (i.e. when there is no image available to perform the tracking of the visual features). A virtual camera is then moved through a straight line path towards the desired position. The virtual path used to guide the robot improves the behavior of the previous event-based visual servoing proposal.

This thesis presents novel vision based control solutions that enable fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to perform tasks of inspection over infrastructure including power lines, pipe lines and roads. This is achieved through the development of techniques that combine visual servoing with alternate manoeuvres that assist the UAV in both following and observing the feature from a downward facing camera. Control designs are developed through techniques of Image Based Visual Servoing to utilise sideslip through Skid-to-Turn and Forward-Slip manoeuvres. This allows the UAV to simultaneously track and collect data over the length of infrastructure, including straight segments and the transition where these meet.

Describes the development and testing of a robotic system for charging blast holes in underground mining. The automation system supports four main tactical functions: detection of blast holes; teleoperated arm pose control; automatic arm pose control; and human-in-the-loop visual servoing. We present the system architecture, and analyse the major components, Hole detection is crucial for automating the process, and we discuss theoretical and practical aspects in detail. The sensors used are laser range finders and cameras installed in the end effector. For automatic insertion, we consider image processing techniques to support visual servoing the tool to the hole. We also discuss issues surrounding the control of heavy-duty mining manipulators, in particular, friction, stiction, and actuator saturation.

Commissioned for the It’s Timely exhibition at the Blacktown Arts Centre, Just Dawn is a response to two speeches that former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam delivered in Blacktown in 1972 and 1974. Throughout the video, a series of white words and phrases fade in and out as a virtual camera flies towards an abstract horizon line. The narrative thread of the text is directed towards an unnamed Whitlam through the repeated appearance of the words ‘you said’. As the video progresses, the colours of the animated background slowly brighten to resemble an emerging dawn, and the sound, text and camera movements build in frequency and intensity. As they do so, the once optimistic outlook becomes increasingly unsteady. In these ways, Just Dawn is equal parts homage and lament for the ideological acuity and ambition of Whitlam’s agenda. It explores how Whitlam’s words can become markers for the complexities of both his own specific transformative policies, and the character of the socially progressive movement more broadly.

运动目标跟踪技术是未知环境下移动机器人研究领域的一个重要研究方向。该文提出了一种基于主动视觉和超声信息的移动机器人运动目标跟踪设计方法,利用一台SONY EV-D31彩色摄像机、自主研制的摄像机控制模块、图像采集与处理单元等构建了主动视觉系统。移动机器人采用了基于行为的分布式控制体系结构,利用主动视觉锁定运动目标,通过超声系统感知外部环境信息,能在未知的、动态的、非结构化复杂环境中可靠地跟踪运动目标。实验表明机器人具有较高的鲁棒性,运动目标跟踪系统运行可靠。

利用SONYEV-D31摄像机和自主研发的摄像机控制模块,构建了一套主动视觉子系统,并将该子系统应用于RIRA-II型移动机器人上,实现了移动机器人运动目标自动跟踪功能。RIRA-II移动机器人采用了由一组分布式行为模块和集中命令仲裁器组成的基于行为的分布式控制体系结构。各行为模块基于领域知识通过反应方式产生投票,由仲裁器产生动作指令,机器人完成相应的动作。在设置了障碍、窄通道以及模拟墙体的复杂环境下进行运动目标跟踪实验,实验表明运动目标跟踪系统运行可靠,具有较高的鲁棒性。

An approach for estimating 3D body pose from multiple, uncalibrated views is proposed. First, a mapping from image features to 2D body joint locations is computed using a statistical framework that yields a set of several body pose hypotheses. The concept of a "virtual camera" is introduced that makes this mapping invariant to translation, image-plane rotation, and scaling of the input. As a consequence, the calibration matrices (intrinsics) of the virtual cameras can be considered completely known, and their poses are known up to a single angular displacement parameter. Given pose hypotheses obtained in the multiple virtual camera views, the recovery of 3D body pose and camera relative orientations is formulated as a stochastic optimization problem. An Expectation-Maximization algorithm is derived that can obtain the locally most likely (self-consistent) combination of body pose hypotheses. Performance of the approach is evaluated with synthetic sequences as well as real video sequences of human motion.

This paper presents an evaluation of the use of videoconferencing in learning and teaching in a United Kingdom higher education institution involved in initial teacher education. Students had the opportunity to observe naturalistic teaching practices without physically being present in the classroom. The study consisted of semi-structured interviews with the co-ordinator of the link, the head of ICT services in Stranmillis University College and the teacher of the classroom being observed. Students were invited to complete an online questionnaire. The views of the students, the co-ordinator of the link, the teacher of the classroom being observed and the head of ICT services in Stranmillis University College were then triangulated to gain an overall view of the effectiveness of the videoconferencing link. Interviews suggested students benefited in terms of pedagogy. In the early stages of the project, the teacher thought it acted as a form of classroom control. Technical problems were encountered initially and camera control was modified in the light of these. The online questionnaire suggested that students viewed this experience in a positive way and were impressed with the content, technical quality, and potential benefits of the use of this example of new technologies.

A non-conforming three-node triangular finite element with 18 degree of freedom, is used in conjugation with the Kirchhoff theory for the non-linear analysis of thin composite plate-shell structure. The formulation of the geometrically non-linear analysis is based on an updated Lagrangian formulation associated with the Newton-Raphson iterative technique, which incorporates an automatic arc-length control procedure.
