This study examines art student’s awareness, understanding and practices of intercultural art education in higher institution of art. Specifically, the research focused on Art Academy of Latvia, Riga. The purpose was to promote “interculturalism’’ among students and to acquaint them with the knowledge and skills of developing and reflecting on their cultural values and that of others’. For 10 weeks, 7 students in the Art Academy of Latvia explored the Traditional African Ceramics. My research included data gathered from student questionnaires, class discussions, interviews, observations, student artwork and photographs from their personal activities. I likewise took note of the students’ practical works and their approach to African-based ceramics. First, in literature review, I discuss my purpose of study, why the study is important, limitations, statements of problem, and further research. Secondly, I examine culture and paradigms of cultures, comprehensive context of the African history and traditions of the African ceramics, the importance of intercultural art education. Then, I describe how the case study in Latvia was carried out among 7 participants’ who are students from 2nd year – masters’ level. The case study involved 7 students from the department of graphics, glass, ceramics and painting with the aim of promoting intercultural learning among art students. The case study reveals participants’ attitude towards intercultural education and reveal the importance of intercultural education in higher institutions of art as well as other institutions of learning. Although the participants were positive attitude towards other culture, the study reveals that creating awareness through intercultural art and exposing students to other culture enhances their creativity ability to explore other culture and they are more likely to be opened in sharing their experiences and their cultural perspective. O estudo realizado nesta pesquisa tem como foco aprofundar as discussões e reflexões sobre o processo criativo e sua importância na relação pedagógica a partir das práticas de professores de Artes. Quando abordamos o processo de criar do aluno e a experimentação no contexto escolar, que possibilidades, limites e obstáculos se manifestam? Trata-se de uma investigação de cunho qualitativo, realizada com base teórica em pesquisa bibliográfica, tendo como referenciais: Paulo Freire (2007) e sua discussão sobre a importância da relação-pedagógica para a construção da autonomia do aluno; Ana Mae Barbosa (2008) e seus estudos sobre a Arte-educação no Brasil e a formação do professor de Arte; os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais de Arte (1998) com ênfase na recomendação sobre a articulação dos três eixos metodológicos: criação/produção em Arte, fruição estética, e reflexão; Porcher (1982) e sua discussão sobre a importância da Educação Artística e Albano (1998) com o seu relato sobre a experiência vivida entre a artista Tarsila do Amaral e o seu aprendiz Tuneu. A pesquisa de campo foi desenvolvida com a realização de entrevistas com três professoras de Arte e três alunos (um aluno de cada professora), de duas escolas estaduais da Rede Pública de Ensino de São Bernardo do Campo e uma escola estadual da Rede Pública de Ensino de Diadema. Para o tratamento dos dados coletados nas entrevistas foi utilizada a Metodologia de Análise de Conteúdo proposta por Franco (2008). A análise dos dados demonstrou que o processar de ideias, a experimentação e todo o processo criativo do aluno passa quase sempre desapercebido na sua importância enquanto prática pedagógica desenvolvida no contexto escolar nas aulas de Arte. Os dados apresentados na pesquisa, quanto à formação do professor, indicam um grau elevado formativo, mas que, quando comparado à prática pedagógica, percebemos lacunas sobre a importância do papel da relação pedagógica no processo criativo do aluno. Apesar disto se apresentar como uma realidade na pesquisa, não poderíamos deixar de mencionar que, mesmo tendo uma pequena representação, observamos uma prática metodológica que cristaliza positivamente o processo criativo do aluno como forma de construção da autonomia, onde o aluno é presenteado com uma relação pedagógica que promove o experimentar, o criar e todas as formas de se expressar, de se fazer atuante, de expressar sua visão de mundo.

A frase de uma educadora: maestro a música mudou a vida desse menino foi o elemento que instigou o desenvolvimento da presente pesquisa. Os questionamentos que se seguem a partir dessa constatação abordaram os aspectos inerentes ao ensino da arte nas escolas brasileiras, angariados a partir de dados oficiais que apresentam um reduzido número de arte-educadores frente a legislação pertinente à obrigatoriedade do ensino da música em toda a educação básica a partir de 2011 através da Lei 11.769/08. A pesquisa se desenvolveu diante da suspeita que o ensino da arte nas escolas brasileiras tem se mostrado insuficiente no que diz respeito a promoção do educando em relação ao fazer artístico, culminando com o baixo interesse pela disciplina artes, refletindo posteriormente na formação de um número reduzido de arte-educadores que provavelmente tiveram sua iniciação artística fora do ambiente escolar. Sendo assim interessou a esta pesquisa aferir a relevância da disciplina artes ou educação artística na trajetória formativa dos arte-educadores em música. A pesquisa utilizou como referencial teórico os dados expostos em Barbosa (2008) e Snyders (2008) visando compreender as concepções inerentes ao ensino da arte, da música, e o processo histórico da linguagem artística no Brasil. Visando angariar elementos para a pesquisa foram desenvolvidas entrevistas com arte-educadores, tendo como referência teórica Nóvoa e Finger (2010) além de Bosi (1987). O capítulo I apresenta considerações sobre o fazer artístico, e o desenvolvimento histórico do ensino da arte no Brasil. O capítulo II trata de experiências práticas relacionadas à educação estética. O capítulo III explicita a fundamentação teórica sobre a metodologia utilizada. O capítulo IV apresenta as histórias de vida de três arte-educadores em música, enquanto o capítulo V expõe as devidas conclusões fundamentadas nas entrevistas com os arte-educadores.

Purpose - The aim of this paper is to briefly present aspects of public brownfield management policies from Brazilian and German points of view. Design methodology approach - The data collection method combined literature and documental research. The bibliography included Brazilian and German literature about brownfield management. The documental research includes Brazilian and German legislation and official documents published by CETESB, the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Furthermore, publications of German governmental research institutions have been integrated in the paper. Findings - In Brazil, despite the lack of a federal public policy, the State of São Paulo has approved specific rules to deal with contaminated sites. Topics that could be targets of scientific studies have been identified. Experiences in Germany show that it is essential to have political will and cooperation between the different political levels and technical disciplines. Partnerships between German and Brazilian universities would be welcome as there is a wide range of opportunities for academic post-graduation studies and research focusing on human resources capacitation in environmental management. Originality value - The paper makes an original contribution of exploring an area (brownfield management) that is at the forefront of discussion in academe and industry

Nowadays in Brazil, some social organizations, governments and mass media are discussing the need to establish an oversight committee to guarantee the quality of television programmes, as well as the need to set a system to determine what kind of pro, gram is appropriate for every television time slot. Across Brazil, a representative body of children and young people have come to the conclusion that the right to receive quality television programmes is not enough. The children of the new generations think they have the right to access new technologies and the production of their own messages, in accordance with their own creativity, interests and lifestyle projects within society.

Social organizations, local governments and the media in Brazil are confronting them, selves over the need for an oversight board to guarantee quality television programming, and establishing a system to determine which television programs are appropriate for which television time slots. Across Brazil, a representative body of children and young adults have determined that the right to receive quality programming is not currently being met. Children of the new generation see themselves as having a right to access new technologies which enable them to produce their own messages according to their own creativity, interests, and social participation. This new generation wants to go beyond education in order to watch and conquer their ""right to screens"".

This article examines the subject matter of learning within the context of information society, through an inquiry concerning both the reforms in education adopted in Brazil in the last thirty years and their results. It provides a revision on the explanations of school failure based on assumptions of learning problems due to cognitive and linguistic deficits. From the guidelines related with written school forms as well as the constant cultural oppression accomplished inside the school, the article claims the necessity of changing the psychological and pedagogic views that, under the label of democratic practices, determine school institutions and its daily life, by means of instrumental relations with knowledge that disregard the reading practices which are congenial to popular culture.

This article analyses the teacher strikes that took place in the state of Sao Paulo ( Brazil). These strikes produced new representations of the profession and gave a particular visibility to its interest aggregation processes. These same strikes appeared as major incentives for the organisation of teachers in Brazil. The October 1963 strike - about six months before the military coup of 1964 - was the first to mobilise the whole of the teaching profession of the Sao Paulo state: primary and secondary education, public and private schools were all involved. The two other strikes, organised by teachers in the public schools in 1978 and 1979, took place under the dictatorship. As such, they had a particular significance in the process of recovering civil liberties in the final stages of the military regime in the 1980s. This article is based on an analysis of the front-page covering of these teacher strikes by the two major journals of the state, O Estado de S. Paulo and Folha de S. Paulo. With Chartier`s concept collective representations in mind, this approach allows us to grasp how large-circulation journals diffuse images of the profession and its organisational configurations. These press pictures are analysed by dint of the analytical frame Roland Barthes advanced in the 1960s, i.e. by reading their denoted, connoted and symbolic messages.

This paper presents the results of a study on the analysis of training needs regarding environmental (green) management and climate change topics in micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Brazil and its implications on education for sustainable development. It reports on an e-mail survey of Brazilian small enterprises, whose results indicate that they are indeed interested in environmental management and climate change topics in an education for sustainable development context. The study indicates that proposals for courses on environmental management and climate change should follow a systemic perspective and take sustainable development into account. By applying factor analysis, it was found that the topics of interest can be grouped into thematic modules, which can be useful in the design of training courses for the top management leaders of those companies.

Over the last 50 years a new research area, science education research, has arisen and undergone singular development worldwide. In the specific case of Brazil, research in science education first appeared systematically 40 years ago, as a consequence of an overall renovation in the field of science education. This evolution was also related to the political events taking place in the country. We will use the theoretical work of Rene Kaes on the development of groups and institutions as a basis for our discussion of the most important aspects that have helped the area of science education research develop into an institution and kept it operating as such. The growth of this area of research can be divided into three phases: The first was related to its beginning and early configurations; the second consisted of a process of consolidation of this institution; and the third consists of more recent developments, characterised by a multiplicity of research lines and corresponding challenges to be faced. In particular, we will analyse the special contributions to this study gleaned from the field known as the history and philosophy of science.

Diversity is one of the major characteristics of Brazil and all South America. This paper presents an overview of the current situation of the education of speech and language pathologists (SLP) and audiologists in Brazil and in several other countries of South America. This paper also discusses the main challenges shared by these countries. The discussion is focused on the mutual interferences between education and the areas of professional practice, cultural diversity and continued education. There are many emerging issues about the education of SLP and audiologists in South America. The suggested conclusion is that, despite the many differences, the South American SLP and audiologists` education would benefit from joint efforts and collaborative experiences. In recent years, the strategy for the control of schistosomiasis has placed increased emphasis on the role of health education, public information, and communication. This should, not only bring about specific changes in behavior aiming at disease prevention, but also stimulate participation of the community in health programs. Beyond this, it is desirable that both community members and researchers should seek better life conditions through a transformative social action. The present paper addresses these concerns; first, by critically reviewing some health education programs that were developed in Brazil, and, secondly, by analyzing and suggesting ways to improve this area.
