Objectives: To investigate the efficacy of progestin treatment to achieve pathological complete response (pCR) in patients with complex atypical endometrial hyperplasia (CAH) or early endometrial adenocarcinoma (EC). Methods: A systematic search identified 3245 potentially relevant citations. Studies containing less than ten eligible CAH or EC patients in either oral or intrauterine treatment arm were excluded. Only information from patients receiving six or more months of treatment and not receiving other treatments was included. Weighted proportions of patients achieving pCR were calculated using R software. Results: Twelve studies met the selection criteria. Eleven studies reported treatment of patients with oral (219 patients, 117 with CAH, 102 with grade 1 Stage I EC) and one reported treatment of patients with intrauterine progestin (11 patients with grade 1 Stage IEC). Overall, 74% (95% confidence interval [CI] 65-81%) of patients with CAH and 72% (95% CI 62-80%) of patients with grade 1 Stage I EC achieved a pCR to oral progestin. Disease progression while on oral treatment was reported for 6/219 (2.7%), and relapse after initial complete response for 32/159 (20.1%) patients. The weighted mean pCR rate of patients with grade 1 Stage I EC treated with intrauterine progestin from one prospective pilot study and an unpublished retrospective case series from the Queensland Centre of Gynaecologic Oncology (QCGC) was 68% (95% CI 45- 86%). Conclusions: There is a lack of high quality evidence for the efficacy of progestin in CAH or EC. The available evidence however suggests that treatment with oral or intrauterine progestin is similarly effective. The risk of progression during treatment is small but longer follow-up is required. Evidence from prospective controlled clinical trials is warranted to establish how the efficacy of progestin for the treatment of CAH and EC can be improved further.

Use of the hand is vital in working life due to the grabbing and pinching it performs. Spherical grip is the most commonly used, due to similarity to the gripping of a computer mouse. Knowledge of its execution and the involved elements is essential. Analysis of this exertion with surface electromyography devices (to register muscular activity) and accelerometer devices (to register movement values ) can provide multiple variables. Six subjects performed ball gripping and registered real-time electromyography (thenar region, hypothenar region, first dorsal interosseous, flexors of the wrist, flexor carpi ulnaris and extensors of the wrist muscles) and accelerometer (thumb, index, middle, ring, pinky and palm) values. The obtained data was resampled “R software” and processed “Matlab Script” based on an automatic numerical sequence recognition program. Electromyography values were normalized on the basis of maximum voluntary contraction, whilst modular values were calculated for the acceleration vector. After processing and analysing the obtained data and signal, it was possible to identify five stages of movement in accordance with the module vector from the palm. The statistical analysis of the variables was descriptive: average and standard deviations. The outcome variables focus on the variations of the modules of the vector (between the maximum and minimum values of each module and phase) and the maximum values of the standardized electromyography of each muscle. Analysis of movement through accelerometer and electromyography variables can give us an insight into the operation of spherical grip. The protocol and treatment data can be used as a system to complement existing assessments in the hand.

[ES]El objetivo principal de este proyecto se centra en conseguir las características mecánicas requeridas por los componentes del chasis de los vehículos con una reducción de peso y mejora de productividad, para ellos es necesario simular el proceso de templado que se da durante la estampación en caliente de una pieza de chapa mediante utillajes con conductos de refrigeración. Para ello se ha utilizado el programa de elementos finitos ANSYS hasta obtener un proceso de embutición simulado que represente con una desviación dentro de los límites aceptables el comportamiento real de la chapa en la etapa de refrigeración. Como objetivo secundario se encuentra el afianzamiento de las bases teóricas de ciencia de materiales y la adquisición de más conocimientos relacionados con la transmisión de calor entre cuerpos sólidos, centrándose sobre todo en la distribución de temperaturas sobre la superficie de éstos. En una primera parte se tratarán los conceptos generales de la estampación en caliente y sus posibles variantes. También se explicará la necesidad del uso de nuevos materiales para la industria automovilística, así como la razón por la cual se utilizan conductos de refrigeración. A continuación, se definirá la geometría de la chapa a analizar, tanto las consecuentes geometrías de los utillajes, que tendrán diferentes distribuciones de conductos de refrigeración. Además se establecerán los criterios para realizar el análisis térmico transitorio del conjunto troquel – chapa – matriz. Una vez seleccionado el tipo de análisis se profundizará en su estudio, aplicándolo a los diferentes utillajes ya citados. Se analizarán los resultados obtenidos y los errores y se buscarán posibles alternativas. Finalmente, se procederá a sacar las conclusiones de la simulación realizada y se procederá a comparar los resultados obtenidos con las diferentes distribuciones de conductos de refrigeración en los utillajes.

O uso de perfis estruturais tubulares vem aumentando em grande escala no mundo, principalmente devido às vantagens associadas ao comportamento estrutural e estético, levando a uma intensa utilização nos países da Europa, Sudeste Asiático, América do Norte e na Austrália. Países como Canadá, Inglaterra, Alemanha e Holanda fazem uso intensivo dessas estruturas e contam com uma produção corrente, industrializada e contínua com alto grau de desenvolvimento tecnológico. Diante deste fato, no Brasil, o uso desses perfis era bastante limitado, restringindo-se praticamente a coberturas espaciais. A situação do mercado brasileiro começou a se alterar em razão da maior oferta desses perfis proporcionada pelo início da produção pela V&M do BRASIL no ano de 2000. Sendo assim, diante da novidade da tecnologia, impõe-se a necessidade de divulgação e implementação do uso desse tipo de perfil, além de uma ampliação do número de trabalhos de pesquisa para melhor compreensão de seu comportamento estrutural. O presente trabalho apresenta uma análise paramétrica de ligação reforçada tipo T, através da determinação da resistência última da ligação obtida pelo critério de deformação limite proposto por diversos pesquisadores, comparando os resultados com as prescrições do Eurocode 3, do Projeto de Norma Brasileira PN 02.125.03-004 e do CIDECT. As ligações objeto deste estudo são compostas por perfil tubular retangular (RHS) no banzo e perfis circulares (CHS) nos montantes. Nestas análises verificou-se a influência do reforço na região de encontro de banzo e montante, bem como a influência do esforços atuantes no banzo no comportamento global das ligações. As não-linearidades físicas e geométricas foram incorporadas aos modelos, a fim de se mobilizar totalmente a capacidade resistente dessa ligação. Os modelos em elementos finitos, foram desenvolvidos no programa Ansys 12.0. Como resultado final deste trabalho é apresentado o comportamento da ligação tipo T com reforço para diversos tipos de perfis (banzo e montante) e diferentes espessuras da chapa de reforço, fazendo comparação com o dimensionamento proposto pelo Projeto de Norma Brasileira PN 02.125.03-004.

This paper presents the development and the application of a multi-objective optimization framework for the design of two-dimensional multi-element high-lift airfoils. An innovative and efficient optimization algorithm, namely Multi-Objective Tabu Search (MOTS), has been selected as core of the framework. The flow-field around the multi-element configuration is simulated using the commercial computational fluid dynamics (cfd) suite Ansys cfx. Elements shape and deployment settings have been considered as design variables in the optimization of the Garteur A310 airfoil, as presented here. A validation and verification process of the cfd simulation for the Garteur airfoil is performed using available wind tunnel data. Two design examples are presented in this study: a single-point optimization aiming at concurrently increasing the lift and drag performance of the test case at a fixed angle of attack and a multi-point optimization. The latter aims at introducing operational robustness and off-design performance into the design process. Finally, the performance of the MOTS algorithm is assessed by comparison with the leading NSGA-II (Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm) optimization strategy. An equivalent framework developed by the authors within the industrial sponsor environment is used for the comparison. To eliminate cfd solver dependencies three optimum solutions from the Pareto optimal set have been cross-validated. As a result of this study MOTS has been demonstrated to be an efficient and effective algorithm for aerodynamic optimizations. Copyright © 2012 Tech Science Press.

The standard design process for the Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, Lincoln, Dry Low Emissions combustion systems has adopted the Eddy Dissipation Model with Finite Rate Chemistry for reacting computational fluid dynamics simulations. The major drawbacks of this model have been the over-prediction of temperature and lack of species data limiting the applicability of the model. A novel combustion model referred to as the Scalar Dissipation Rate Model has been developed recently based on a flamelet type assumption. Previous attempts to adopt the flamelet philosophy with alternative closure models have failed, with the prediction of unphysical phenomenon. The Scalar Dissipation Rate Model (SDRM) was developed from a physical understanding of scalar dissipation rate, signifying the rate of mixing of hot and cold fluids at scales relevant to sustain combustion, in flames and was validated using direct numerical simulations data and experimental measurements. This paper reports on the first industrial application of the SDRM to SITL DLE combustion system. Previous applications have considered ideally premixed laboratory scale flames. The industrial application differs significantly in the complexity of the geometry, unmixedness and operating pressures. The model was implemented into ANSYS-CFX using their inbuilt command language. Simulations were run transiently using Scale Adaptive Simulation turbulence model, which switches between Large Eddy Simulation and Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes using a blending function. The model was validated in a research SITL DLE combustion system prior to being applied to the actual industrial geometry at real operating conditions. This system consists of the SGT-100 burner with a glass square-sectioned combustor allowing for detailed diagnostics. This paper shows the successful validation of the SDRM against time averaged temperature and velocity within measurement errors. The successful validation allowed application of the SDRM to the SGT-100 twin shaft at the relevant full load conditions. Limited validation data was available due to the complexity of measurement in the real geometry. Comparison of surface temperatures and combustor exit temperature profiles showed an improvement compared to EDM/FRC model. Furthermore, no unphysical phenomena were predicted. This paper presents the successful application of the SDRM to the industrial combustion system. The model shows a marked improvement in the prediction of temperature over the EDM/FRC model previously used. This is of significant importance in the future applications of combustion CFD for understanding of hardware mechanical integrity, combustion emissions and dynamics of the flame. A multi-objective design optimisation study has been carried out with the objectives to improve the overall efficiency of the device and to reduce the fuel consumption for the proposed micro-scale combustor design configuration. In a previous study we identified the topology of the combustion chamber that produced improved behaviour of the device in terms of the above design criteria. We now extend our design approach, and we propose a new configuration by the addition of a micro-cooling channel that will improve the thermal behaviour of the design as previously suggested in literature. Our initial numerical results revealed an improvement of 2.6% in the combustion efficiency when we applied the micro-cooling channel to an optimum design configuration we identified from our earlier multi-objective optimisation study, and under the same operating conditions. The computational modelling of the combustion process is implemented in the commercial computational fluid dynamics package ANSYS-CFX using Finite Rate Chemistry and a single step hydrogen-air reaction. With this model we try to balance good accuracy of the combustion solution and at the same time practicality within the context of an optimisation process. The whole design system comprises also the ANSYS-ICEM CFD package for the automatic geometry and mesh generation and the Multi-Objective Tabu Search algorithm for the design space exploration. We model the design problem with 5 geometrical parameters and 3 operational parameters subject to 5 design constraints that secure practicality and feasibility of the new optimum design configurations. The final results demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of the developed computational design system and most importantly we assess the practicality and manufacturability of the revealed optimum design configurations of micro-combustor devices. r/>Lip separation is one of the primary sources of inlet distortion, which can result in a loss in fan stability. High angles of incidence are one of several critical causes of lip separation. There have been many studies into inlet performance at high incidence, including the resulting distortion levels when lip separation occurs. However, the vast majority of these investigations have been carried out experimentally, with little in the way of computational results for inlet performance at high incidence. The flow topology within an inlet when lip separation has occurred is also not well understood. This work aims to demonstrate a suitable model for the prediction of inlet flows at high incidence using ANSYS CFX, looking at both the performance of the inlet and the separated flow topology within the inlet. The attenuating effect of the fan is also investigated, with particular emphasis on the flow redistribution ahead of the fan. The results show that the model used is suitable for predicting inlet performance in adverse operating conditions, showing good agreement with experimental results. In addition, the attenuation of the distortion by the fan is also captured by the numerical model.

Ce mémoire présente l’étude numérique d’un emballement de turbine hydraulique axiale à échelle modèle. Cet état transitoire est simulé du point de meilleur rendement jusqu’à l’atteinte de 95% de la vitesse d’emballement. Pour ce faire, une méthodologie numérique est développée à l’aide du logiciel commercial ANSYS CFX en utilisant une approche "Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes" avec modèle de turbulence k-ε. Cette méthodologie numérique a été validée grâce à des mesures expérimentales de pression acquises en situation d’emballement sur les aubes d’une roue de turbine axiale étudiée au Laboratoire de Machines Hydrauliques de l’Université Laval. La validation des simulations numériques a été réalisée grâce à des comparaisons dans les domaines temporel et fréquentiel entre les pressions mesurées expérimentalement et calculées numériquement. Les analyses fréquentielles en transitoire ont été effectuées à l’aide de transformées en ondelettes afin de représenter l’évolution temporelle du spectre de fréquence. Des analyses qualitatives de phénomènes hydrauliques prenant place dans la turbine sont aussi présentées. Les analyses effectuées ont permis de confirmer le développement d’un tourbillon en précession par rapport à la roue dans l’aspirateur provocant les fluctuations de pression dominantes à des fréquences subsynchrones. La comparaison entre les données expérimentales et numériques a permis de valider une stratégie de simulation transitoire et d’en définir les limites en vue de prochaines simulations d’emballement. Des tests supplémentaires sont suggérés pour améliorer la précision ou le niveau de confiance de la méthode.

The Hardy-Weinberg law, formulated about 100 years ago, states that under certain assumptions, the three genotypes AA, AB and BB at a bi-allelic locus are expected to occur in the proportions p2, 2pq, and q2 respectively, where p is the allele frequency of A, and q = 1-p. There are many statistical tests being used to check whether empirical marker data obeys the Hardy-Weinberg principle. Among these are the classical xi-square test (with or without continuity correction), the likelihood ratio test, Fisher's Exact test, and exact tests in combination with Monte Carlo and Markov Chain algorithms. Tests for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) are numerical in nature, requiring the computation of a test statistic and a p-value. There is however, ample space for the use of graphics in HWE tests, in particular for the ternary plot. Nowadays, many genetical studies are using genetical markers known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). SNP data comes in the form of counts, but from the counts one typically computes genotype frequencies and allele frequencies. These frequencies satisfy the unit-sum constraint, and their analysis therefore falls within the realm of compositional data analysis (Aitchison, 1986). SNPs are usually bi-allelic, which implies that the genotype frequencies can be adequately represented in a ternary plot. Compositions that are in exact HWE describe a parabola in the ternary plot. Compositions for which HWE cannot be rejected in a statistical test are typically “close" to the parabola, whereas compositions that differ significantly from HWE are “far". By rewriting the statistics used to test for HWE in terms of heterozygote frequencies, acceptance regions for HWE can be obtained that can be depicted in the ternary plot. This way, compositions can be tested for HWE purely on the basis of their position in the ternary plot (Graffelman & Morales, 2008). This leads to nice graphical representations where large numbers of SNPs can be tested for HWE in a single graph. Several examples of graphical tests for HWE (implemented in R software), will be shown, using SNP data from different human populations

Actualment l’esport del rem només s’entén com a activitat de lleure o esport de competició. Dins del rem, hi ha una gran varietat de disciplines esportives; totes coincideixen en l’impuls d’una embarcació mitjançant un sistema de palanques simple. Es diferencien en dos grans grups: el banc mòbil i el banc fix. El banc mòbil disposa d’un seient sobre rodes que permet aprofitar la força de les cames per la impulsió, en canvi, en el banc fix, no hi ha desplaçament del seient, el que implica el treball del tors i braços. Un dels punts que tenen en comú tot el banc fix, és el disseny del seu rem; a diferència del banc mòbil on la pala pot tenir el disseny que es vulgui. En banc fix la pala del rem ha de ser simètrica i alineada amb la canya del rem. L’objectiu d’aquest projecte és l’anàlisi hidrodinàmic de diferents models de pales simètriques per tal de determinar el model més eficient, des del punt de vista hidrodinàmic, per a la impulsió de l’embarcació de banc fix. Així, es simularan virtualment diferents models de pales simètriques disponibles en el mercat com models prototipus amb un programa de dinàmica de fluids computacional. L’anàlisi dels resultats determinarà el model més eficient. En la realització del projecte, l’estudi hidrodinàmic es realitzarà de manera virtual a partir de la utilització de programes comercials de dinàmica de fluids. Així com també programes de disseny 3D i programes de mallat que siguin compatibles amb el programa de simulació a utilitzar. En el disseny s’utilitzaran programes com Autocad i Rhinoceros, després, en funció del disseny, utilitzarem un programa d’elements finits anomenat ICEM ANSYS que mallarà la geometria emprada. Finalment, la simulació s’efectuarà amb el programa ANSYS CFX. L’estudi no preveu el càlcul de resistència mecànica dels models ni la seva construcció

La dinàmica de fluids computacional (CFD) és una eina que serveix per analitzar mitjançant computadors diferents problemes que involucren fluxos de fluids. Els programes de CFD usen expressions matemàtiques no lineals que defineixen les equacions fonamentals de fluxos i transport de calor en fluids. Aquestes es resolen amb complexos algoritmes iteratius. Actualment aquesta eina és una part fonamental en els procés de disseny en moltes empreses relacionades amb la dinàmica de fluids. Les simulacions que es realitzen amb aquests programes s’ha demostrat que són fiables i que estalvien temps i diners, ja que eviten haver de realitzar els costosos processos d’assaig-error. En el projecte s’utilitza el programa de CFD Ansys CFX 11.0 per simular una agitació bifàsica composta per aigua i aire a temperatura ambient. Els objectius són determinar els paràmetres òptims de simulació que permetin recrear aquesta agitació, per posteriorment dissenyar un nou impulsor

Existing distributed hydrologic models are complex and computationally demanding for using as a rapid-forecasting policy-decision tool, or even as a class-room educational tool. In addition, platform dependence, specific input/output data structures and non-dynamic data-interaction with pluggable software components inside the existing proprietary frameworks make these models restrictive only to the specialized user groups. RWater is a web-based hydrologic analysis and modeling framework that utilizes the commonly used R software within the HUBzero cyber infrastructure of Purdue University. RWater is designed as an integrated framework for distributed hydrologic simulation, along with subsequent parameter optimization and visualization schemes. RWater provides platform independent web-based interface, flexible data integration capacity, grid-based simulations, and user-extensibility. RWater uses RStudio to simulate hydrologic processes on raster based data obtained through conventional GIS pre-processing. The program integrates Shuffled Complex Evolution (SCE) algorithm for parameter optimization. Moreover, RWater enables users to produce different descriptive statistics and visualization of the outputs at different temporal resolutions. The applicability of RWater will be demonstrated by application on two watersheds in Indiana for multiple rainfall events.

Os impactos das variações climáticas tem sido um tema amplamente pesquisado na macroeconomia mundial e também em setores como agricultura, energia e seguros. Já para o setor de varejo, uma busca nos principais periódicos brasileiros não retornou nenhum estudo específico. Em economias mais desenvolvidas produtos de seguros atrelados ao clima são amplamente negociados e através deste trabalho visamos também avaliar a possibilidade de desenvolvimento deste mercado no Brasil. O presente trabalho buscou avaliar os impactos das variações climáticas nas vendas do varejo durante período de aproximadamente 18 meses (564 dias) para 253 cidades brasileiras. As informações de variações climáticas (precipitação, temperatura, velocidade do vento, umidade relativa, insolação e pressão atmosférica) foram obtidas através do INMET (Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia) e cruzadas com as informações transacionais de até 206 mil clientes ativos de uma amostra não balanceada, oriundos de uma instituição financeira do ramo de cartões de crédito. Ambas as bases possuem periodicidade diária. A metodologia utilizada para o modelo econométrico foram os dados de painel com efeito fixo para avaliação de dados longitudinais através dos softwares de estatística / econometria EViews (software proprietário da IHS) e R (software livre). A hipótese nula testada foi de que o clima influencia nas decisões de compra dos clientes no curto prazo, hipótese esta provada pelas análises realizadas. Assumindo que o comportamento do consumidor do varejo não muda devido à seleção do meio de pagamento, ao chover as vendas do varejo em moeda local são impactadas negativamente. A explicação está na redução da quantidade total de transações e não o valor médio das transações. Ao excluir da base as cidades de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro não houve alteração na significância e relevância dos resultados. Por outro lado, a chuva possui efeito de substituição entre as vendas online e offline. Quando analisado setores econômicos para observar se há comportamento diferenciado entre consumo e compras não observou-se alteração nos resultados. Ao incluirmos variáveis demográficas, concluímos que as mulheres e pessoas com maior faixa de idade apresentam maior histórico de compras. Ao avaliar o impacto da chuva em um determinado dia e seu impacto nos próximos 6 à 29 dias observamos que é significante para a quantidade de transações porém o impacto no volume de vendas não foi significante.

The consumption of energy on the planet is currently based on fossil fuels. They are responsible for adverse effects on the environment. Renewables propose solutions for this scenario, but must face issues related to the capacity of the power supply. Wind energy offshore emerging as a promising alternative. The speed and stability are greater winds over oceans, but the variability of these may cause inconvenience to the generation of electric power fluctuations. To reduce this, a combination of wind farms geographically distributed was proposed. The greater the distance between them, the lower the correlation between the wind velocity, increasing the likelihood that together achieve more stable power system with less fluctuations in power generation. The efficient use of production capacity of the wind park however, depends on their distribution in marine environments. The objective of this research was to analyze the optimal allocation of wind farms offshore on the east coast of the U.S. by Modern Portfolio Theory. The Modern Portfolio Theory was used so that the process of building portfolios of wind energy offshore contemplate the particularity of intermittency of wind, through calculations of return and risk of the production of wind farms. The research was conducted with 25.934 observations of energy produced by wind farms 11 hypothetical offshore, from the installation of 01 simulated ocean turbine with a capacity of 5 MW. The data show hourly time resolution and covers the period between January 1, 1998 until December 31, 2002. Through the Matlab R software, six were calculated minimum variance portfolios, each for a period of time distinct. Given the inequality of the variability of wind over time, set up four strategies rebalancing to evaluate the performance of the related portfolios, which enabled us to identify the most beneficial to the stability of the wind energy production offshore. The results showed that the production of wind energy for 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 should be considered by the portfolio weights calculated for the same periods, respectively. Energy data for 2002 should use the weights derived from the portfolio calculated in the previous time period. Finally, the production of wind energy in the period 1998-2002 should also be weighted by 1/11. It follows therefore that the portfolios found failed to show reduced levels of variability when compared to the individual production of wind farms hypothetical offshore
