Búsqueda, selección e implantación de un sistema online de software libre para revisión por pares en congresos científicos

Este proyecto tiene como objetivo implementar un sistema libre bajo GNU/Linux para la recepción y evaluación de trabajos presentados a un congreso argentino sobre sistemas embebidos. Además, se piensa en un futuro en organizar un evento de software libre con revisión de pares, para lo cual sería coherente utilizar un sistema con licencia de software libre.

Rationale and design of a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled multicenter trial to study efficacy, security, and long term effects of intermittent repeated levosimendan administration in patients with advanced heart failure: LAICA study.

BACKGROUND Advanced heart failure (HF) is associated with high morbidity and mortality; it represents a major burden for the health system. Episodes of acute decompensation requiring frequent and prolonged hospitalizations account for most HF-related expenditure. Inotropic drugs are frequently used during hospitalization, but rarely in out-patients. The LAICA clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of monthly levosimendan infusion in patients with advanced HF to reduce the incidence of hospital admissions for acute HF decompensation. METHODS The LAICA study is a multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group trial. It aims to recruit 213 out-patients, randomized to receive either a 24-h infusion of levosimendan at 0.1 μg/kg/min dose, without a loading dose, every 30 days, or placebo. RESULTS The main objective is to assess the incidence of admission for acute HF worsening during 12 months. Secondarily, the trial will assess the effect of intermittent levosimendan on other variables, including the time in days from randomization to first admission for acute HF worsening, mortality and serious adverse events. CONCLUSIONS The LAICA trial results could allow confirmation of the usefulness of intermittent levosimendan infusion in reducing the rate of hospitalization for HF worsening in advanced HF outpatients.

Evaluation of an online, case-based interactive approach to teaching pathophysiology

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate a new pedagogical approach in teaching fluid, electrolyte and acid-base pathophysiology in undergraduate students. METHODS: This approach comprises traditional lectures, the study of clinical cases on the web and a final interactive discussion of these cases in the classroom. When on the web, the students are asked to select laboratory tests that seem most appropriate to understand the pathophysiological condition underlying the clinical case. The percentage of students having chosen a given test is made available to the teacher who uses it in an interactive session to stimulate discussion with the whole class of students. The same teacher used the same case studies during 2 consecutive years during the third year of the curriculum. RESULTS: The majority of students answered the questions on the web as requested and evaluated positively their experience with this form of teaching and learning. CONCLUSIONS: Complementing traditional lectures with online case-based studies and interactive group discussions represents, therefore, a simple means to promote the learning and the understanding of complex pathophysiological mechanisms. This simple problem-based approach to teaching and learning may be implemented to cover all fields of medicine.

Using the costs of drug therapy to screen patients for a community pharmacy-based medication review program

Objectives: To measure the positive predictive value (PPV) of the cost of drug therapy (threshold = 2000 Swiss francs [CHF], US$1440, <euro>1360) as a screening criterion for identifying patients who may benefit from medication review (MR). To describe identified drug-related problems (DRPs) and expense problems (EPs), and to estimate potential savings if all recommendations were accepted. Setting Five voluntary Swiss community pharmacies. Methods: Of 12,680 patients, 592 (4.7%) had drug therapy costs exceeding 2000 CHF over a six-month period from July 1 to December 31, 2002. This threshold limit was set to identify high-risk patients for DRPs and EPs. Three pharmacists consecutively conducted a medication review based on the pharmaceutical charts of 125 sampled patients who met the inclusion criterion. Main outcome measure: The PPV of a threshold of 2000 CHF for identifying patients who might benefit from a MR: true positives were patients with at least one DRP, while false positives were patients with no DRP. Results: The selection based on this criterion had a PPV of 86% for detecting patients with at least one DRP and 95% if EPs were also considered. There was a mean of 2.64 (SD = 2.20) DRPs per patient and a mean of 2.14 (SD = 1.39) EPs per patient. Of these patients, 90% were over 65 years old or were treated with at least five chronic medications, two common criteria for identifying patients at risk of DRPs. The main types of DRPs were drug-drug interactions, compliance problems and duplicate drugs. Mean daily drug cost per patient was CHF 14.87 (US$10.70, <euro>10.10). A potential savings of CHF 1.67 (US$1.20, <euro>1.14) per day (11%) was estimated if all recommendations to solve DRPs and EPs suggested herein were implemented. Conclusion: Further studies should investigate whether the potential benefit of medication reviews in preventing DRPs and containing costs in this patient group can be confirmed in a real practice environment. Intervenció per millorar la comunicació dels nens i adolescents amb DAR i els seus pares : Aplicació pel programa d'intervenció online DARWeb

Chronic pain is a relevant problem in our society. Concerning the young population, recurring abdominal pain (RAP in English, DAR in Spanish and Catalan) is very common among children and adolescents. DARWeb is an online treatment program addressed to children and teenagers with DAR and their parents. This work is aimed to develop an intervention to improve the communication skills of the children/adolescents with DAR and their parents. It is also proposed how this could be implemented to DARWeb.

Implementació d'un instrument de mesura de la qualitat del servei d'un supermercat online

Aquest treball posa en pràctica l'adaptació d'una enquesta anomenada E-S-QUAL, que avalua la qualitat del servei en establiments virtuals. Es parteix de la tesi del doctor Cristóbal i es combina amb part de la tesi del doctor Granollers, concretament amb el model MPIU+Q. S'ha implementat un lloc web amb l'enquesta, ens hem posat en contacte amb un supermercat virtual (Plusfresh.com)i l'hem posada en maxa per a que els clients la contestessin. Finalment, s'ha fet una anàlisi de les dades recollides i s'han extret uns informes i conclusions.

Adaptación de la aplicación para la realización de Card Storing para dotarla de elementos multimedia y capacidad de distribución online

Este proyecto surge de la necesidad de mejorar un CardStoring ya existente de forma que, mediante un servidor, podamos usarlo de forma remota, y poder separar la aplicación en dos partes; ya que hasta el momento se encontraba en una sola. Con esto se consigue que la creación de las tarjetas pase desapercibida para el usuario y que a éste le resulte más simple el uso de esta aplicación. Con esto, se lograría que la aplicación pueda ser distribuida de forma Web. También será modificado el tipo de tarjetas para poder introducir sonidos, videos e imágenes. Con lo cual conseguimos adaptar el proyecto a personas discapacitadas como pueden ser sordos e invidentes además de aportar un uso más amplio a cada una de las tarjetas.

Aquest projecte consisteix en modificar la web de la botiga virtual www.grandeszapatos.com per tal d'implementar un sistema per a la fidelització dels clients a la botiga, basat en un sistema de punts (convertibles en descomptes) que s'aconseguiran per a la realització de compres, apadrinament de nous clients, escriptura de comentaris dels clients, aniversari o promocions genèriques. El nou sistema afecta tant a la part del front-office (visible pels clients) com a la part del back-office (administració per part dels membres de la botiga).
