Sound radiators based on forced vibrations of plates are becoming widely employed, mainly for active sound enhancement and noise cancelling systems, both in music and automotive environment. Active sound enhancement solutions based on electromagnetic shakers hence find increasing interest. Mostly diffused applications deal with active noise control (ANC) and active vibration control systems for improving the acoustic experience inside or outside the vehicle. This requires investigating vibrational and, consequently, vibro-acoustic characteristics of vehicles. Therefore, simulation and processing methods capable of reducing the calculation time and providing high-accuracy results, are strongly demanded. In this work, an ideal case study on rectangular plates in fully clamped conditions preceded a real case analysis on vehicle panels. The sound radiation generated by a vibrating flat or shallow surface can be calculated by means of Rayleigh’s integral. The analytical solution of the problem is here calculated implementing the equations in MATLAB. Then, the results are compared with a numerical model developed in COMSOL Multiphysics, employing Finite Element Method (FEM). A very good matching between analytical and numerical solutions is shown, thus the cross validation of the two methods is achieved. The shift to the real case study, on a McLaren super car, led to the development of a mixed analytical-numerical method. Optimum results were obtained with mini shakers excitement, showing good matching of the recorded SPL with the calculated one over all the selected frequency band. In addition, a set of directivity measurements of the hood were realized, to start studying the spatiality of sound, which is fundamental to active noise control systems.

In this paper, we initially present an algorithm for automatic composition of melodies using chaotic dynamical systems. Afterward, we characterize chaotic music in a comprehensive way as comprising three perspectives: musical discrimination, dynamical influence on musical features, and musical perception. With respect to the first perspective, the coherence between generated chaotic melodies (continuous as well as discrete chaotic melodies) and a set of classical reference melodies is characterized by statistical descriptors and melodic measures. The significant differences among the three types of melodies are determined by discriminant analysis. Regarding the second perspective, the influence of dynamical features of chaotic attractors, e.g., Lyapunov exponent, Hurst coefficient, and correlation dimension, on melodic features is determined by canonical correlation analysis. The last perspective is related to perception of originality, complexity, and degree of melodiousness (Euler's gradus suavitatis) of chaotic and classical melodies by nonparametric statistical tests. This text discusses the phonographic segment of religious music in Brazil in its two main manifestations, linked respectively to the Catholic and Protestant traditions. The text offers a brief history of both traditions, as well as a description of their main recording companies and artists of greatest prominence. In its final part. the text presents the strategies that bring together recording companies and independent artists, as well as ponders over Brazil`s independent musical production as a whole.

Audiometry is the main way with which hearing is evaluated, because it is a universal and standardized test. Speech tests are difficult to standardize due to the variables involved, their performance in the presence of competitive noise is of great importance. Aim: To characterize speech intelligibility in silence and in competitive noise from individuals exposed to electronically amplified music. Material and Method: It was performed with 20 university students who presented normal hearing thresholds. The speech recognition rate (SRR) was performed after fourteen hours of sound rest after the exposure to electronically amplified music and once again after sound rest, being studied in three stages: without competitive noise, in the presence of Babble-type competitive noise, in monotic listening, in signal/ noise ratio of + 5 dB and with the signal/ noise ratio of 5 dB. Results: There was greater damage in the SRR after exposure to the music and with competitive noise, and as the signal/ noise ratio decreases, the performance of individuals in the test also decreased. Conclusion: The inclusion of competitive noise in the speech tests in the audiological routine is important, because it represents the real disadvantage experienced by individuals in daily listening.

One perpetual concern among Indigenous Australian peoples is authenticity of voice. Who has the right to speak for, and to make representations about, the knowledges and cultures of Indigenous Australian peoples? Whose voice is more authentic, and what happens to these ways of knowing when they make the journey into mainstream Western academic classrooms? In this paper, I examine these questions within the politics of “doing” Indigenous Australian studies by focusing on my own experiences as a lecturer in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit at the University of Queensland. My findings suggest that representation is a matter of problematizing positionality and, from a pedagogical standpoint, being aware of, and willing to address, the ways in which power, authority, and voice are performed and negotiated as teachers and learners of Indigenous Australian studies.
