Desenvolupament d'un memetracker - rastrejador de notícies

El projecte es centra en el desenvolupament d'un recol·lector de notícies publicades a una llarga llista de blocs ampliada contínuament pel desenvolupador i pels usuaris, afegint els seus blocs preferits. L'aplicació desenvolupada realitza una recol·lecció contínua de notícies consultant les possibles novetats que apareguin en cada un dels blocs inscrits a l'aplicació. Se'ls hi aplica un classificador per idioma i per temàtica i es relaciona amb les altres notícies existents si aquestes parlen sobre el mateix tema. En l'aplicació desenvolupada hi ha la possibilitat d'escollir entre les temàtiques ofertes i en l'idioma que ha estat publicada la notícia. Pel desenvolupament del projecte s'ha desitjat que la plataforma sigui el més compatible possible amb la tecnologia actual fent servir diversos llenguatges de programació que han permès desenvolupar cada un dels algorismes necessaris pel desenvolupament global de l'aplicació; en ordre d'ús he fet servir Php, Matlab, Html, MySql, CSS3, Javascript i XML. s'ha de destacar que el projecte aporta una comoditat per tots aquells lectors de blocs que es troben tantes vegades amb notícies ja llegides en els diferents blocs que consulten.

The overall aim of this Vote Group is to provide health and personal social services to improve the health and well being of the people of Ireland in a manner that promotes better health for everyone, fair access, responsive and appropriate care delivery and high performance. The money voted goes to the Department of Health and Children (Vote 39), the Health Service Executive (Vote 40), and the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (Vote 41). The Department of Health and Children has responsibility for the overall organisational, legislative, policy and financial accountability framework for the health sector. The Health Service Executive is responsible for the management and delivery of health and personal social services within available resources. The Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs brings together functions relating to children and their well being, along with policy functions on youth justice and early years education. Value for Money and Policy Review of the Economic Cost and Charges Associated with Private and Semi-Private Treatment Services in Public Hospitals - Interim Report

This report sets out a revised costing methodology and an estimate of the gap which currently exists between private and semi-private bed charges and the average economic cost. While the Steering Group considers the costing methodology proposed as an improvement on the approach taken in previous years and a good overall approximation of the difference on average between economic costs and current charges, it recognises that the current charging regime does not take sufficient account of the variation between different categories of patient. This is the fourth annual report to the EMCDDA from the Norwegian Institute for Alcohol and Drug Research (SIRUS) on the drugs situation in Norway. The report has been drawn up in accordance with the new reporting guidelines introduced by the EMCDDA this year. We have endeavoured to follow these as consistently as possible, with the main focus on “new developments” and substantial changes in epidemiology, legislation and organisation. To allow readers to obtain more background information the report contains a number of references to the national report for 2003, and occasional references to the report for 2002.This resource was contributed by The National Documentation Centre on Drug Use.

Dementia, lesbians and gay men: Alzheimer's Australia

This paper was commissioned by Alzheimer's Australia to promote an informed discussion about the issues affecting lesbians or gay men with dementia or caring for someone with dementia. It addresses the issues associated with the interaction between service providers and lesbian and gay men with dementia and their family carers, including the complexity of family relationships and barriers that may affect care provision and quality of life.The focus of this paper is on lesbian and gay seniors, including their same-sex partners. Not all people with dementia are seniors; however younger lesbians and gay men living with dementia may have a number of similar concerns and needs to those of lesbian and gay seniors. This paper also includes information about the needs of younger lesbians and gay men who are supporting a heterosexual family member living with dementia.Some issues and concerns identified in this paper are shared by transgender people, as well as additional specific issues such as the impact of medical interventions on ageing, including surgical changes and hormone treatments over a long period of time. This paper encompasses the needs of those members of the transgender community to the extent to which they identify themselves as gay or lesbian, but does not address the specific needs of transgender people.This paper seeks to contextualise the issues involved and inform readers by way of discussion and case examples.Full paper available at: http://www.apo.org.au/node/23373

Ancient medical texts, modern reading problems

The word tradition has a very specific meaning in linguistics: the passing down of a text, which may have been completed or corrected by different copyists at different times, when the concept of authorship was not the same as it is today. When reading an ancient text the word tradition must be in the reader's mind. To discuss one of the problems an ancient text poses to its modern readers, this work deals with one of the first printed medical texts in Portuguese, the Regimento proueytoso contra ha pestenença, and draws a parallel between it and two related texts, A moche profitable treatise against the pestilence, and the Recopilaçam das cousas que conuem guardar se no modo de preseruar à Cidade de Lixboa E os sãos, & curar os que esteuerem enfermos de Peste. The problems which arise out of the textual structure of those books show how difficult is to establish a tradition of another type, the medical tradition. The linguistic study of the innumerable medieval plague treatises may throw light on the continuities and on the disruptions of the so-called hippocratic-galenical medical tradition.

Une approche strategique du vote : à propos de « vote par appobation, vote par note »

Ce texte a pour ambition de revenir sur une procédure d'expérimentation destinée à tester l'impact du vote par approbation ainsi que du vote par note sur l'ampleur de ce qu'on a coutume d'appeler le vote utile. Les résultats de ces expériences, menées lors des élections présidentielles françaises de 2007 et de 2012, ont fait l'objet de deux articles publiés dans la Revue économique. Notre objectif est ici d'attirer l'attention du lecteur sur la conception implicite qui sous-tend ces expériences : le vote comme outil de dévoilement des préférences individuelles. Une telle orientation se fait au détriment d'une conception stratégique du vote, c'est-à-dire le vote comme processus de coordination. Or, il nous semble que le propre du vote utile est précisément de s'inscrire dans une dimension stratégique du vote, dimension que la procédure expérimentale mise en place tend à gommer en ne fournissant pas aux votants de repères informationnels relatifs aux choix des autres votants. On parlera à cet effet d'isolation informationnelle. This text has the ambition to return to an experimental procedure designed to test the impact of approval voting as well as evaluating voting on the scope of what is called in French vote utile (strategic voting). The results of these experiences, held during the 2007 and 2012 French presidential elections, have been the object of two papers published in the Revue économique. Our aim is to catch the attention of readers on the implicit conception inherent to these experiences: voting as a means to reveal individual preferences. Such a direction is taken at the cost of a strategic conception of voting, i.e. voting as a coordination process. Yet, it seems to us that the main characteristic of strategic voting is precisely to be strategic. The design of the experimental procedure tends to erase this dimension, by depriving the voters of information on other voter's choices. This is what we call informational isolation.

Aquest nou desplegament s'ha desenvolupat en consonància amb l'aposta general de la Universitat en innovació en tecnologies aplicades a l'educació, i la voluntat de potenciar les col·leccions de llibres electrònics i l'ús dels dispositius de lectura de llibres electrònics com una extensió més de la tecnologia del Campus 5.0, en el suport a l'aprenentatge dels seus estudiants durant la seva formació a la Universitat. Aquest treball presenta en detall les especificacions de la prova pilot a més de contenir un anàlisi i avaluació dels resultats obtinguts: punts forts i punts febles, relació dels aspectes a millorar i modificar, de cara a la consolidació final del servei.

L'Experiència del servei de préstec d'e-readers i llibres-e a la Biblioteca de la UOC

Estudio sobre la recepción del modelo de best seller norteamericano en los best sellers europeos. Los casos de Francia y España.

L’objectiu d’aquest projecte és analitzar la qualitat literària dels best sellers i observar les limitacions d’aquest anàlisi. Deguda la complexitat del fenòmen best seller, i tot i ser conscients de que són obres que s’han d’abordar des d’una perspectiva pluridisciplinar, vam decidir començar aquest projecte analitzant tres best sellers espanyols des de la metodologia de l’estilística i de la narratologia. Les obres analitzades són 'La sombra del viento' de Carlos Ruiz Zafón, 'Un milagro en equilibrio', de Lucía Etxevarría, i 'El capitán Alatriste', de Pérez Reverte, i l’anàlisi és de tipus quantitatiu, de les estructures emprades per a l’expressió de lo metafòric, dels personatges, trames i tòpics. Les conclusions varen ser que, des d’un punt de vista estilístic, es pot demostrar la mala qualitat literària d’aquestes obres, així com la seva relació amb la tradició del gènere del folletí, amb el que comparteixen moltes característiques. Tanmateix, una altra de les conclusions de l’estudi fou que abordar el best seller des de l’estilística no ofereix una visió completa d’aquest fenòmen. Aquest projecte doncs, que té per títol “Estudio estilístico de tres casos de best seller en el ámbito español: 'La sombra del viento', 'Un milagro en equilibrio' y 'El capitán Alatriste'” ha d’ampliar-se en catàleg i en metodologia, adoptant vàries perspectives simultàneament, que ofereixin una visió adecuada de la complexitat del fenòmen. El catàleg s’ha extès a 15 obres en l’àmbit espanyol, i a 15 més en l’àmbit francès, durant el 2008, i la perspectiva multidisciplinar engloba estudis culturals, de recepció i sociologia. Des d’aquesta nova base metodològica i teòrica, s’han realitzat 500 enquestes a lectors a Barcelona i a París, en diferents punts de venta de llibres, durant el 2010.

La Llengua de l'heroi: notes sobre la llengua del segle XX a partir de les traduccions catalanes de David Copperfield de Charles Dickens

Estudi comparatiu de les dues traduccions catalanes publicades de David Copperfield de Charles Dickens. La primera de Josep Carner feta l’any 1930 però publicada el 1964 i la segona obra deJoan Sellent del 2003. L’anàlisi mostra que ambdues traduccions, excel·lents, reflecteixen una evolució singular i força accelerada del model de llengua que els traductors fan arribar al seu públic, que és reflex de la complexa història de la llengua catalana del segle xx, que encara s’had’escriure.

Effect of investigator experience in CT colonography.

The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the learning curve on the diagnostic performances of CT colonography. Two blinded teams, each having a radiologist and gastroenterologist, prospectively examined 50 patients using helical CT scan followed by colonoscopy. Intermediate data evaluation was performed after 24 data sets (group 1) and compared with data from 26 subsequent patients (group 2). Parameters evaluated included sensitivity, specificity, false-positive and false-negative findings, time of data acquisition and interpretation. Using colonoscopy as the gold standard, sensitivity for CT colonography was for lesions >5 mm 63% for both teams for group 1 patients; for group 2 patients sensitivity was 45% for team 1 and 64% for team 2. Specificity per patients was for patient group 1 42% for team 1 and 58% for team 2; for patient group 2 it was 79% for both teams ( p=0.04 for team 1; p=0.2 for team 2). Comparing group 1 with group 2, the number of false-positive findings decreased significantly ( p=0.02). Furthermore, the mean time of data evaluation decreased from 45 to 17 min ( p=0.002) and the mean time of data acquisition from 19 to 17 min. With increasing experience, specificity and the time required for data interpretation improved and false positives decreased. There was no significant change of sensitivity, false-negative findings and time of data acquisition. A minimum experience of the readers is required for data interpretation of CT colonography.
