A comparison of theoretical Mg VI emission line strengths with active-region observations from SERTS

R-matrix calculations of electron impact excitation rates in N-like Mg VI are used to derive theoretical electron-density-sensitive emission line ratios involving 2s²2p³ - 2s2p⁴ transitions in the 269-403 Å wavelength range. A comparison of these with observations of a solar active region, obtained during the 1989 flight of the Solar EUV Rocket Telescope and Spectrograph (SERTS), reveals good agreement between theory and observation for the 2s²2p^{3 4}S - 2s2p ^{4 4}p transitions at 399.28, 400.67, and 403.30 Å, and the 2s²2p^{3 2}p - 2s2p^{4 2}D lines at 387.77 and 387.97 Å. However, intensities for the other lines attributed to Mg VI in this spectrum by various authors do not match the present theoretical predictions. We argue that these discrepancies are not due to errors in the adopted atomic data, as previously suggested, but rather to observational uncertainties or mis-identifications. Some of the features previously identified as Mg VI lines in the SERTS spectrum, such as 291.36 and 293.15 Å, are judged to be noise, while others (including 349.16 Å) appear to be blended.

Les Lionel Groulx : la pseudonymie comme stratégie littéraire et jeu institutionnel (1900-1966)

De 1900 à 1966, Lionel Groulx, prêtre, historien, écrivain, conférencier, professeur, a signé 176 textes d'une vingtaine de pseudonymes différents. Le premier chapitre du mémoire résume d'abord les positions théoriques qu'ont adoptées des chercheurs comme Genette, Laugaa et Jeandillou en ce qui concerne la pseudonymie. Le récit de l'aventure pseudonyme de Groulx commence au deuxième chapitre, alors que le jeune professeur du College de Valleyfield, surtout pour éviter les représailles de son évêque, recourra à la pseudonymie pour signer des textes patriotiques. En 1915, Groulx quitte Valleyfield pour Montréal. Dès 1917, il collabore à l'Action française, dont il devient le directeur en 1920. Sans contredit, l'étude de la pseudonymie de Groulx de 1917 a 1929 prouve qu'il est bel et bien "L'Homme à tout faire" de la revue, comme le démontre le troisième chapitre. Magna Charta and Parliament 1900-1914

In 1915 plans for the celebration of the 700th anniversary of Magna Carta had to be dropped following the outbreak of the First World War. Such celebrations marked a sense of Magna Carta as an event in the history of these islands. The usage of the term Magna Carta in Parliament in the run-up to the First World War, however, shows that its granting was not seen only as a significant historical event to be memorialised. During the period from 1900, opening with war in South Africa and ending in 1914 with war throughout Europe, the Great Charter was mentioned 85 times in Parliament. As a period marked by a lengthy constitutional crisis in 1909-11 and beset with problems in Ireland and the Empire, this seems like a good case study period to choose. This short paper attempts to analyse how and why it was invoked in Parliament in the years and what these various usages tell us about how Magna Carta was understood at the time.

Revista Mulheres (1978-1989): um estudo em torno do feminismo e do comunismo

Este projecto de investigação teve como aspiração analisar as articulações e desconexões em torno das categorias de classe e género, em diálogo com a dicotomia igualdade versus diferença, e centrando-nos no estudo da revista da Mulheres. A história desta permite-nos compreender melhor as imagens dominantes da mulher portuguesa nos anos 80, sendo que o projecto da revista opera uma dupla recusa: por oposição ao passado, recusa-se a imagem da mulher conservadora vinculada pelo fascismo português e o catolicismo; e por oposição ao capitalismo, recusa-se a imagem da mulher «liberalizada». Neste sentido, procedemos numa primeira parte, à história da revista e do meio em que se relaciona. Numa segunda parte, procedemos a uma análise dos conteúdos da revista a partir das categorias de trabalho e cultura. E, finalmente numa terceira parte, desenvolvemos uma reflexão mais crítica sobre o sujeito «mulheres» e as representações na política. Abstract
