"I'm on it 24/7 at the moment" : A qualitative examination of multi-screen viewing behaviours among UK 10-11 year olds

Background: Screen-viewing has been associated with increased body mass, increased risk of metabolic syndrome and lower psychological well-being among children and adolescents. There is a shortage of information about the nature of contemporary screen-viewing amongst children especially given the rapid advances in screen-viewing equipment technology and their widespread availability. Anecdotal evidence suggests that large numbers of children embrace the multi-functionality of current devices to engage in multiple forms of screen-viewing at the same time. In this paper we used qualitative methods to assess the nature and extent of multiple forms of screen-viewing in UK children. Methods: Focus groups were conducted with 10-11 year old children (n = 63) who were recruited from five primary schools in Bristol, UK. Topics included the types of screen-viewing in which the participants engaged; whether the participants ever engaged in more than one form of screen-viewing at any time and if so the nature of this multiple viewing; reasons for engaging in multi-screen-viewing; the room within the house where multi-screen-viewing took place and the reasons for selecting that room. All focus groups were transcribed verbatim, anonymised and thematically analysed. Results: Multi-screen viewing was a common behaviour. Although multi-screen viewing often involved watching TV, TV viewing was often the background behaviour with attention focussed towards a laptop, handheld device or smart-phone. There were three main reasons for engaging in multi-screen viewing: 1) tempering impatience that was associated with a programme loading; 2) multi-screen facilitated filtering out unwanted content such as advertisements; and 3) multi-screen viewing was perceived to be enjoyable. Multi-screen viewing occurred either in the child's bedroom or in the main living area of the home. There was considerable variability in the level and timing of viewing and this appeared to be a function of whether the participants attended after-school clubs. Conclusions: UK children regularly engage in two or more forms of screen-viewing at the same time. There are currently no means of assessing multi-screen viewing nor any interventions that specifically focus on reducing multi-screen viewing. To reduce children's overall screen-viewing we need to understand and then develop approaches to reduce multi-screen viewing among children.

TiC原位增强块状Cu_(47)Ti_(34)Zr_(11)Ni_8非晶合金复合材料

在电弧炉中利用吸铸法制备了直径1-4 mm的原位生成TiC和β-Ti枝晶联合增强的块状Cu47Ti34Zr11Ni8非晶合金复合材料.DSC热分析结果表明,原位生成TiC颗粒的引入,没有影响基体合金的非晶形成能力.用OM,XRD,SEM,EDS等方法研究了复合材料的相组成、微观组织以及成分分布,结果表明,TiC颗粒作为异质形核中心促进了β-Ti枝晶的形成,形成了TiC颗粒和β-Ti枝晶联合增强的块状Cu47Ti34Zr11Ni8非晶合金复合材料,而且β-Ti枝晶的尺寸和数量与TiC颗粒的多少以及试样的尺寸有关.室温压缩试验表明,同单相非晶合金相比,块状Cu47Ti34Zr11Ni8非晶合金复合材料提高了抗压强度及塑性.

Histórico, produção e aplicabilidade da Lei Maria da Penha - Lei nº 11.340/2006

A Lei nº 11.340/2006 - Lei Maria da Penha é resultado recente das lutas históricas do movimento feminista no Brasil. Este estudo, preliminarmente, analisa as conquistas constitucionais femininas, as leis de gênero brasileiras e os tratados internacionais ratificados pelo Brasil. Relata a cronologia do nascimento da norma, desde os fatos precedentes à sua confecção, como também a iniciativa do projeto de lei, a principal discussão realizada pela Câmara dos Deputados, por meio do Seminário Violência contra a Mulher: Um Ponto Final, os aspectos concernentes à tramitação, aprovação e a discriminação das principais propostas de alteração em tramitação no Congresso Nacional. Em que pese grande repercussão da lei em nível nacional, muitos são os problemas detectados acerca de sua aplicabilidade, gerando desafios a serem vencidos.

A participação de grupos de interesse e a Lei do Turismo

Analisa como os grupos de interesses organizados em torno da Confederação Nacional do Comercio, Bens, Serviços e Turismo e da Câmara Empresarial de Turismo (CNC/CET) atuaram para que, em apenas seis meses, obtivessem a aprovação do Projeto de Lei nº 3.118, de 27 de março de 2008 (projeto da Lei do Turismo), dentro da Câmara dos Deputados, qual o interesse na aprovação do referido projeto e como foram realizadas as articulações e os contatos com os parlamentares. O fato de participar operacionalmente de algumas fases do processo possibilita uma visão interna de como os desdobramentos verdadeiramente ocorreram. Até 1938, o Brasil desconhecia a legislação turística, sendo que, a partir daí, e pelos próximos 73 anos, a legislação seria uma "colcha de retalhos" elaborada de acordo com a conveniência e a necessidade política do momento. Apenas em 2003, o Poder Executivo criou o Ministério do Turismo que, dentro da Câmara Temática de Legislação, elaborou, em quatro anos, sete versões de um anteprojeto de lei, sempre com a participação da CNC/CET. Pesquisaram-se os acontecimentos que deram origem ao projeto de lei e foram investigados como esses grupos de interesses e de pressão em torno da CNC/CET se caracterizaram politicamente, de que forma ocorreram os debates, reuniões em torno do projeto e em que a participação desses grupos contribuiu (ou não) para as mudanças no texto do projeto da lei que tramitou tão rapidamente dentro do Congresso Nacional. Ao final, elaborou-se um compêndio com as principais inovações trazidas nos 49 artigos da Lei nº 11.771, de 17 de setembro de 2008 (a Lei do Turismo), resultado de um amplo debate que ocorreu na construção do anteprojeto, havendo concessões por parte do governo e por parte do empresariado para que o texto já chegasse ao Congresso Nacional com o mínimo de arestas a serem aparadas. Certamente, a lei não contém todas as propostas empresariais, mas abarca a maioria delas, configurando-se em um verdadeiro marco regulatório do turismo brasileiro.

A.L.O.A. (Asociación Limnológica y Oceanográfica Argentina ) Resumen de las Comunicaciones Presentadas en la Reunión del 11 de setiembre de 1953

Prosiguiendo con la política de rescatar documentos que, por diferentes motivos, se han extraviado con el paso del tiempo, el Programa para el estudio y uso sustentable de la biota austral (ProBiota) reedita el primer y único boletín de la Asociación Limnológica y Oceanográfica Argentina (ALOA). Esta asociación pretendía convocar a los hidrobiólogos argentinos, pero interrumpió su camino a poco de iniciado en el año 1953. Los motivos de ese hecho los desconozco; aunque personalmente creo que, entre otras cosas, debe haber influido el quiebre institucional de 1955 cuando se profundizaron nuevamente las heridas en nuestra sociedad. No deja de ser paradójico que hoy, a casi cincuenta años de este suceso, la Asociación Argentina de Limnología (AAL) se encuentre en una situación similar luego de veinte años de trayectoria que se cumplirían en el mes de marzo del próximo año. Hasta 1998, fecha de su último congreso, tuvo un gran impulso generando importantes eventos nacionales e internacionales. Sin embargo, a partir de allí fue decayendo con rapidez y hoy se enfrenta a su inminente disolución. A mi entender, la reversión de este hecho sólo podría lograrse sobre la base del sacrificio personal y del conjunto, solidaridad y, sobre todo, respeto a la memoria de todos aquellos que construyeron las bases de la limnología nacional.

Part 11: The biologic character and geologic correlations of the sedimentary formations of Panama in their relation to the geologic history of Central America and the West Indies

The paper presents: 1) biologic summaries for each of the formations for which paleontologic data are available, with brief discussions of the geologic age; 2) geologic correlations of the formations and the distribution of their age-equivalents in Central America, the West Indies, and the southeastern United States; 3) an outline of the paleogeography of middle America. The biologic summaries are based on the paleontologic memoirs in this vol. by Messars. Howe, Berry, Chuchman, Jackson, Canu and Bassler and Pilsbry, Miss Rathbun and myself.
