Elaborado com vista à reflexão fundamentada acerca do percurso, das práticas educativas e das políticas de ensino, o presente trabalho pretende reunir um conjunto de saberes inerentes à atividade docente. Relacionando teorias e práticas no âmbito do ensino da música, a apresentação de uma filosofia de trabalho, congregando como eixo estruturante a prática musical supervisionada realizada no âmbito do ensino vocacional, apresenta-se como pano de fundo à análise dos vários conteúdos referentes à literatura específica inerente à prática pedagógica. Partindo da caracterização da escola do ensino vocacional de música, nos ensinos Básico e Secundário, a presente reflexão emerge no seguimento do pensamento articulado das várias áreas do saber através da apreciação, fundamentação e discussão das perspetivas de ensino vigentes ao longo do processo de estágio. Deste modo, será exposta toda a perspetiva de ensino por nós desenvolvida, partindo de uma linha temporal, tendo por princípio a descrição de um plano modelo, com o objetivo de podermos demonstrar a direção do nosso pensamento. Tendo como objetivo verificar a eficácia da abordagem ao jogo, como estratégia de ensino, na aprendizagem do ritmo, na disciplina de Formação Musical, partimos de uma investigação bibliográfica sobre a relação entre a escola tradicional e a escola moderna, o jogo e a motivação, e por último, a aprendizagem do ritmo sobre a perspetiva das atividades de aprendizagem sequencial, sustentadas por Edwin Gordon. O projeto de investigação aborda uma nova conceção do jogo, aliando o mesmo às atividades de leitura rítmicas.

Este relatório foi escrito no âmbito do estágio de Prática Educativa do Mestrado em Ensino da Educação Musical no Ensino Básico da Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico do Porto. No primeiro capítulo encontra-se a caracterização dos contextos onde decorreu a Prática Educativa – escolas, turmas e comunidades educativas. O segundo capítulo engloba a reflexão e fundamentação das opções realizadas ao longo das três Práticas Educativas, que resultaram da negociação entre os ideais, os programas e as crianças e os jovens envolvidos, suas competências, anseios e motivações. O terceiro capítulo é dedicado ao projeto de investigação realizado sobre a motivação de crianças e jovens dos 2º e 3º ciclos do ensino básico para participarem em atividades de prática vocal extracurriculares e suas implicações para a Educação Musical na sala de aula. O contraste entre a motivação dos alunos na sala de aula e em atividades extracurriculares suscitou o desenvolvimento deste estudo em dois contextos: o Coro dos Meninos Cantores do Município da Trofa e o Clube de Canto da Escola Básica Augusto Gil. A reflexão sobre a Prática Educativa é um instrumento ao serviço dos professores que lhes permite avaliar, e avaliarem-se, e introduzir mais consciência e reflexividade na sua acção, com vista a melhorá-la continuamente e a torná-la pertinente para o percurso dos seus alunos num mundo em constante mudança.

Reflectir sobre noções como liberdade individual, democracia, o papel dos meios de comunicação e dos produtos culturais, é uma das principais tarefas das ciências sociais e humanas, reflexão particularmente pertinente nestes primeiros anos do séc. XXI marcados pela popularização de dispositivos tecnológicos destinados à circulação de informação em rede e pela virtualização de mecanismos de distribuição de bens de consumo cultural. Adomo constitui hoje uma das fontes mais importantes surgidas nos últimos 50 anos para esta reflexão. Marcado pelo advento do Nacional Socialismo e a perseguição de todos os "degenerados da condição ariana" (judeus, comunistas e homossexuais), Adomo produziu ao longo de quatro décadas, uma reflexão que marcou indelevelmente muitos autores que, escrevendo sobre a contemporaneidade, a adoptaram ou a ela se opuseram. A pergunta que coloco, e que serve de ponto de partida para este artigo, é proposta por Jameson: é hoje possível ler Adomo e Horkheimer junto à piscina? (1990: 248), ou posto de outra forma, que lugar ocupa a obra de Adomo como ferramenta para perspectivar o mundo actual.

After a gastroenteritis outbreak of unknown etiology in the municipality ofSebastião da Grama, SãoPaulo, Brazil, we conducted a parasitological survey to establish the epidemiological profile of enteroparasitosis in children and staff members attending the public urban schools in operation in town. The cross-sectional study evaluated 172 children aged 11 months to 6 years old and 33 staff members aged 19 to 58 years old. Overall, 96 (55.81%) children and 20 (60.61%) staff members were mono-parasitized, while 58 (33.72%) children and 4 (12.12%) workers were poly-parasitized. Protozoa (88.37%; 72.73%) was more prevalent than helminthes (3.48%; 0%) in children and staff members respectively.Blastocystis spp. was the most prevalent parasite in children (86.63%) and staff members (66.67%). The age of 1 year old or less was found to be associated with increased prevalence of giardiasis [OR = 13.04; 95%CI 2.89-58.91; p = 0.00] and public garbage collection was identified as a protective factor against intestinal helminth infections [OR = 0.06; 95%CI 0.00-0.79; p = 0.03]. Although most of the children tested positive for Blastocystis spp. and also presented clinical signs/symptoms (62.2%), this association was not statistically significant [OR = 1.35; 95%CI 0.53-3.44; p = 0.51]. Intestinal parasites still represent a public health concern and this study underscores the importance of further investigations to better understand the pathogenic role ofBlastocystis spp.

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the discussion of the effects of published school rankings based on average scores obtained by students on national exams. We study the effectiveness of this (low-stakes) accountability mechanism; we analyze whether students react to these rankings, by moving in or out of high-schools according to their scores and examine the movements of closing of schools. Our results suggest that families react strongly to published rankings. We also look at the changes in the socio-economic background of students of poorly performing schools in order to evaluate whether the publication of rankings has increased inequality, as feared by many observers. According to our results, published rankings do in fact reinforce stratification by income.

Coproparasitological analyses were performed on 191 daycare children and 434 elementary school children from urban and rural areas in Rolândia, Parana State, Brazil. The overall prevalence of enteroparasites was 15.2 % for daycare children and 52.5% for elementary school children. Risk factors are discussed.

Although Josquin is by far the best-represented foreign composer in Gonçalo de Baena's Arte novamente inventada pera aprender a tanger (Lisbon, 1540), his music is undeniably under-represented both in the extant sixteenth-century Portuguese manuscripts containing Franco-Flemish polyphony and in volumes imported from the Netherlands such as Coimbra MM 2 and VienNB 1783. Josquin’s reputation made him, along with Ockeghem, a symbol in Portuguese humanistic culture, but up to at least the late 1530s his name seems to have been much better known than his music. Nevertheless, possible allusions to specific works by Josquin can be found in early- and mid-sixteenth-century Portuguese polyphony. By the 1520s, the general technical and stylistic characteristics of his and the following generation of northerners had begun to permeate locally produced polyphony. This eventually replaced the late-fifteenth- and early-sixteenth-century pan-consonant and homorythmic style associated with the Aragonese and the so-called Spanish court repertory.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this work was to survey HPV information from a random population of young women from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included cervical samples from 241 female students. To determine human papillomavirus status, polymerase chain reaction amplification was performed. HPV typing was determined by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Demographic data, life style, sexual and gynecological history were obtained through use of a structured questionnaire. RESULTS: The average age of the women was 19.6 years-old (SD=3.4 years). HPV prevalence was 27.4%. Nineteen different HPV genotypes were detected, including 13 high risk types. HPV 16 was the most prevalent type (6.2%), followed by 31 (4.1 %) and 66 (3.7%). Most of the oncogenic types belonged to the A9 species (28/48). The frequency of women infected by at least one oncogenic type was significantly higher than those only infected by low risk types (18.7% versus 7.5%). Cervical changes were detected in 12.5% of the sample and were significantly linked to infection with HPV types of the A9 species. Demographic variables, sexual initiation, or number of sexual partners were not associated with HPV prevalence, variety of HPV genotypes or oncogenic types. CONCLUSIONS: The relative frequency of HPV genotypes other than vaccine types in young females should be taken into account when evaluating vaccination strategies. Due to the high prevalence of HPV infection among the population studied, implementation of sex education in schools, promotion of condom use and an organized screening program to prevent cervical cancer must be encouraged for this age group.

This thesis focuses on the representation of Popular Music in museums by mapping, analyzing, and characterizing its practices in Portugal at the beginning of the 21st century. Now that museums' ability to shape public discourse is acknowledged, the examination of popular music's discourses in museums is of the utmost importance for Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies as well as for Museum Studies. The concept of 'heritage' is at the heart of this processes. The study was designed with the aim of moving the exhibiting of popular music in museums forward through a qualitative inquiry of case studies. Data collection involved surveying pop-rock music exhibitions as a qualitative sampling of popular music exhibitions in Portugal from 2007 to 2013. Two of these exhibitions were selected as case studies: No Tempo do Gira-Discos: Um Percurso pela Produção Fonográfica Portuguesa at the Museu da Música in Lisbon in 2007 (also Faculdade de Letras, 2009), and A Magia do Vinil, a Música que Mudou a Sociedade at the Oficina da Cultura in Almada in 2008 (and several other venues, from 2009 to 2013). Two specific domains were observed: popular music exhibitions as instances of museum practice and museum professionals. The first domain encompasses analyzing the types of objects selected for exhibition; the interactive museum practices fostered by the exhibitions; the concepts and narratives used to address popular music discursively, as well as the interpretative practices they allow. The second domain, focuses museum professionals and curators of popular music exhibitions as members of a group, namely their goals, motivations and perspectives. The theoretical frameworks adopted were drawn from the fields of ethnomusicology, popular music studies, and museum studies. The written materials of the exhibitions were subjected of methods of discourse analysis methods. Semi-structured interviews with curators and museum professional were also conducted and analysed. From the museum studies perspective, the study research suggests that the practice adopted by popular music museums largely matches that of conventional museums. From the ethnomusicological and popular music studies stand point, the two case studies reveal two distinct conceptual worlds: the first exhibition, curated by an academic and an independent researcher, points to a mental configuration where popular music is explained through a framework of genres supported by different musical practices. Moreover, it is industry actors such as decision makers and gatekeepers that govern popular music, which implies that the visitors' romantic conception of the musician is to some extent dismantled; the second exhibition, curated by a record collector and specialist, is based on a more conventional process of the everyday historical speech that encodes a mismatch between “good” and “bad music. Data generated by a survey shows that only one curator, in fact that of my first case study, has an academic background. The backgrounds of all the others are in some way similar to the curator of the second case study. Therefore, I conclude that the second case study best conveys the current practice of exhibiting Popular Music in Portugal.

Educational stratification has been a difficult subject to deal with having yet no study shown a quantitative measure of it. Using the idea of distribution comparison a measure based on parents’ education is built for the primary schools in Lisbon. Upon the confirmation that Lisbon is stratified, I use the measure of peer effects based on stratification and determine its impact on test scores, concluding that the existence of stratification improves scores of students in schools with more educated parents and decreases scores of students in schools with less educated parents. Moreover, using fixed effects I derive the conclusion that the measure of peers’ characteristics helps explain most of differences among schools.

The present essay focuses on the effectiveness of Portuguese public schools’ provision of 7th, 8th and 9th grades, using data from the Portuguese Ministry of Education and Science for 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12. At least two school types offer these grades: Basic and Secondary. Based on previous findings, a production function is estimated for 9th grade students in the regular academic track, including a variable that indicates the specific school type attended by each student. After concluding that Basic Schools add more value, some explanations are presented as well as recommendations and possible further research.
