Nous étudions dans cet article les tournures du type « Le gênant, c’est qu’Olivier ne sera pas seul », lesquelles sont fréquemment décrites, d’un point de vue formel, comme des structures de type article/adjectif substantivé. Après avoir analysé les propriétés morphosyntaxiques de notre tournure, nous montrons qu’en réalité on ne saurait parler d’adjectif substantivé par un article, dans la mesure où ni l’adjectif ne devient un substantif, ni l’article ne fonctionne comme un véritable article. Ce dernier, en effet, peut être défini comme un « article-démonstratif neutre ». Nous sommes dans cette perspective amené à repenser le schéma de l’article de la psychomécanique du langage, et à proposer du tenseur binaire guillaumien une vision élargie que l’on peut représenter par un schème trimorphe.

This work proposes an association between musical analysis techniques developed during the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries, presented by authors like Felix Salzer and Joseph Straus, and the musical theory concepts presented by Olivier Messiaen, for the analysis of Prelude n(o) 1, La Colombe. The analysis contributes to broaden the theory concepts presented by the composer. In the Conclusion we trace lines of an authorial sonority by Olivier Messiaen.

Specific leaf area (SLA; m(leaf)(2) kg(leaf)(-1)) is a key ecophysiological parameter influencing leaf physiology, photosynthesis, and whole plant carbon gain. Both individual tree-based models and other forest process-based models are generally highly sensitive to this parameter, but information on its temporal or within-stand variability is still scarce. In a 2-4-year-old Eucalyptus plantation in Congo, prone to seasonal drought, the within-stand and seasonal variability in SLA were investigated by means of destructive sampling carried out at 2-month intervals, over a 2-year period. Within-crown vertical gradients of SLA were small. Highly significant relationships were found between tree-average SLA (SLA(t)) and tree size (tree height, H(t), or diameter at breast height, DBH): SLA(t) ranged from about 9 m(2) kg(-1) for dominant trees to about 14-15 m(2) kg(-1) for the smallest trees. The decrease in SLA(t) with increasing tree size was accurately predicted from DBH using power functions. Stand-average SLA varied by about 20% during the year, with lowest values at the end of the 5-month dry season, and highest values about 2-3 months after the onset of the wet season. Variability in leaf water status according to tree size and season is discussed as a possible determinant of both the within-stand and seasonal variations in SM. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Histopathological alterations in human aneurysms and dissections of the thoracic ascending aorta include areas of mucoid degeneration within the medial layer, colocalized with areas of cell disappearance and disruption of extracellular matrix elastic and collagen fibers. We studied the presence of matrix metalloproteinases in relation to their capacity to diffuse through the tissue or to be retained in areas of mucoid degeneration in aneurysms and dissections of the ascending aorta. Ascending aortas from 9 controls, 33 patients with aneurysms, and 14 with acute dissections, all collected at surgery, were analyzed. The morphological aspect was similar whatever the etiology or phenotypic expression of the pathological aortas, involving areas of extracellular matrix breakdown and cell rarefaction associated with mucoid degeneration. Release of proMMP-2, constitutively expressed by smooth muscle cells, was not different between controls and aneurysmal aortas, whereas the aneurysmal aortas released more of the active form. Release of pro and active MMP-9 was also similar between controls and aneurysmal aortas. Immunohistochemical staining of MMP-2 and MMP-9 was weak in both control and pathological aortas. In contrast, released MMP-7 (matrilysin) and MMP-3 (stromelysin-1) could not be detected in conditioned media but were present in tissue extracts with no detectable quantitative difference between controls and pathological aortas. Immunohistochemical staining of MMP-7 and MMP-3 revealed their retention in areas of mucoid degeneration, and semiquantitative evaluation of immunostaining showed more MMP-7 in pathological aortas than in controls. In conclusion, areas of mucoid degeneration, the hallmark of aneurysms, and dissections of thoracic ascending aortas, whatever their etiology, are not inert and can retain specific proteases. Fibrinolytic activity is associated with presence of cystic medial degeneration in aneurysms of the ascending aorta Aims: Thoracic ascending aortic aneurysms (TAA) are characterized by elastic fibre breakdown and cystic medial degeneration within the aortic media, associated with progressive smooth muscle cell (SMC) rarefaction. The transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta/Smad2 signalling pathway is involved in this process. Because the pericellular fibrinolytic system activation is able to degrade adhesive proteins, activate matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), induce SMC disappearance and increase the bioavailability of TGF-beta, the aim was to investigate the plasminergic system in TAA. Methods and results: Ascending aortas [21 controls and 19 TAAs (of three different aetiologies)] were analysed. Immunohistochemistry showed accumulation of t-PA, u-PA and plasmin in TAAs, associated with residual SMCs. Overexpression of t-PA and u-PA was confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunoblotting and zymography on TAA extracts and culture medium conditioned by TAA. Plasminogen was present on the SMC surface and inside cytoplasmic vesicles, but plasminogen mRNA was undetectable in the TAA medial layer. Plasmin-antiplasmin complexes were detected in TAA-conditioned medium and activation of the fibrinolytic system was associated with increased fibronectin turnover. Fibronectin-related material was detected immunohistochamically in dense clumps around SMCs and colocalized with latent TGF-beta binding protein-1. Conclusions: The fibrinolytic pathway could play a critical role in TAA progression, via direct or indirect impact on ECM and consecutive modulation of TGF-beta bioavailability.

A novidade do cerimonial em língua vernácula, resultante do Concílio Vaticano II, levou a uma vasta actividade composicional em todos os países católicos. Em Portugal, e muito especialmente na região de Lisboa, um dos principais protagonistas desta acção foi o Pe. Manuel Luís (1924-81). Apesar de os seus cânticos (em particular, os Salmos Responsoriais) serem actualmente utilizados de norte a sul de Portugal, a actividade do Pe. Manuel Luís esteve centrada em Lisboa, nomeadamente, no contexto das celebrações realizadas na Sé Patriarcal, onde foi inevitável o contacto assíduo com Antoine Sibertin-Blanc (1930-2012), organista daquele templo desde 1965. As harmonizações de Sibertin-Blanc viriam a tornar-se, para os frequentadores da Catedral lisboeta, indissociáveis das melodias do Pe. Manuel Luís.

A maioria dos órgãos históricos portugueses data dos finais do século XVIII ou do princípio do século XIX. Durante este período foi construído um invulgar número de instrumentos em Lisboa e nas áreas circundantes por António Xavier Machado e Cerveira (1756-1828) e outros organeiros menos prolíficos. O estudo desses órgãos, muitos dos quais (restaurados ou não) se encontram próximos das condições originais, permite a identificação de um tipo de instrumento com uma morfologia específica, claramente emancipada do chamado «órgão ibérico». No entanto, até muito recentemente, não era conhecida música que se adaptasse às idiossincrasisas daqueles instrumentos. O recente estudo das obras para órgão de José Marques e Silva (1782-1837) permitiu clarificar esta situação. Bem conhecido durante a sua vida como organista e compositor, José Marques e Silva foi um dos ultimos mestres do Seminário Patriarcal. A importância da sua produção musical reside não só num substancial número de obras com autoria firmemente estabelecida – escritas, na maior parte, para coro misto com acompanhamento de órgão obbligato – mas também na íntima relação entre a sua escrita e a morfologia dos órgãos construídos em Portugal durante a sua vida. Este artigo enfatiza a importância de José Marques e Silva (indubitavelmente, o mais significativo compositor português para órgão do seu tempo) sublinhando a relevância das suas obras para órgão solo, cujo uso extensivo de escrita idiomática e indicações de registação fazem delas um dos mais importantes documentos só início do século XIX sobre a prática organística em Portugal.
