Esta investigación se centra en la Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) como organización política. Intenta responder dos interrogantes primordiales: 1) ¿cómo la FIFA ha constituido el poder que tiene actualmente y, así, hacerse del monopolio indiscutido del fútbol? Y 2) ¿cómo ha cambiado en el tiempo la política interna de FIFA y su vínculo con la política internacional? Para lograr esto, se realiza un estudio histórico, basado principalmente en documentos, que intenta caracterizar y analizar los cambios de la organización en el tiempo. Se enfatizan las últimas dos presidencias de FIFA, de João Havelange y Joseph Blatter, como casos de estudio.

The Impact of Transnational Conflicts on Christian-Muslim Relations in Nigeria (2001-2006)

This Master’s Thesis examines transnational conflicts and Christian-Muslim relations in Nigeria between the years 2001 and 2006. It focuses on two major transnational conflicts: The September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States and the Danish cartoon controversy of 2005/2006. It discusses the impact of these transnational conflicts on Christian-Muslim relations in Nigeria in the light of the implementation of the Sharia Law in some northern Nigerian states and the improved access to the broadcast media and mobile telephone communication in Nigeria. By underscoring the relationship between transnational conflicts and the local context, this study provides a new perspective for understanding Christian-Muslim relations in Nigeria

The increase in the elderly population has been significant in recent years in Brazil, with the growth in the relative share of the population aged 65 or more, which was 4.8% in 1991 and reaching 7.4% in 2010, this occurred mainly due to the growth of the adult population, especially also for the increased participation of the elderly population (IBGE, 2010). This situation has challenges of political, social, economic and mainly related to the health of the elderly population. The practice of physical activity, especially gymnastics, are offered to the population as a means of improving the health and quality of life (BURINI, 2005; MATSUDO, 2002; MAZO, 2003). From this context, this course conclusion work aims to report gymnastics programs developed in Denmark for the elderly population and reflect on the differences and similarities with the Brazilian fitness programs for seniors presented in the literature. The method used to develop this work of completion will review the literature on physical activity programs for seniors and, in particular, gymnastics, developed in Brazil and published in national Physical Education, minimum classification B2 (CAPES, 2012 ). Parallel to this, the description of fitness programs directed to older people in Denmark, as an account of personal experience of five months in Folk High School Gymnastik og Idraetshojskolen Viborg / Denmark. In the results of the study, were founded eight projects of physical activity of elderly people in the articles. Compared with the Brazilian projects studied, and observed Danish, they differ primarily the goals of the programs, which directly influences the activities conducted training. The frequency is similar but the Danish culture of physical exercise, makes Denmark people want to practice more activities off-hours programs. Another equally important aspect that emerges... Inclusive J/psi production in pp collisions at root s=2.76 TeV

The ALICE Collaboration has measured inclusive J/psi production in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s = 2.76 TeV at the LHC. The results presented in this Letter refer to the rapidity ranges vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9 and 2.5 < y <4 and have been obtained by measuring the electron and muon pair decay channels, respectively. The integrated luminosities for the two channels are L-int(e) = 1.1 nb(-1) and L-int(mu) = 19.9 nb(-1), and the corresponding signal statistics are N-J/psi(e+e-) = 59 +/- 14 and N-J/psi(mu+mu-) = 1364 +/- 53. We present d sigma(J/psi)/dy for the two rapidity regions under study and, for the forward-y range, d(2)sigma(J/psi)/dydp(t) in the transverse momentum domain 0 < p(t) < 8 GeV/c. Las lenguas de extremo oriente y el español: los diccionarios y gramáticas como primeros instrumentos para la comunicación en Filipinas y China

[ES]En este trabajo mostraremos cómo desde los inicios de la Edad Moderna la lexicografía española se constituyó en uno de los vínculos que unían Europa, América y el Extremo Oriente. La modernización de la lexicografía en el continente europeo vino de la mano de Nebrija. Y, así, las nuevas gramáticas y diccionarios escritos para favorecer la comunicación entre los españoles y los pueblos del Extremo Oriente (Filipinas y China) llevaron más allá de las fronteras de España el modelo de Nebrija. Asimismo, ofrecemos un panorama de estas obras desde el siglo XVI hasta comienzos del siglo XX.

Il sottotitolaggio per i film festival: due esperienze pratiche

This dissertation aims to examine the field of film festival subtitling by means of the analysis of two subtitling experiences. These experiences will be approached both on a methodological and on a practical level in order to analyse how subtitlers put theory into practice. This approach will also help underline the existing differences in work methodology as far as different work experiences are concerned. The subtitling experiences examined in this dissertation are part of my internships as a subtitler in two Italian film festivals, namely “Umbria Film Festival” and “900 Fest”. In this dissertation, I chose to focus on the subtitling of two of the audiovisual products I translated. These products are a German documentary titled Befreier und Befreite and a Danish fiction film titled Stille Hjerte. This dissertation is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 describes audiovisual translation at its most theoretical level, focusing on subtitling criteria and strategies. Chapter 2 examines the concept of film translation, focusing on the distinctive features of documentary translation as a specific genre. This chapter also presents the concept of film festival and provides information concerning the translation policies of festivals. Chapter 3 presents the festivals I worked for and details my internship experiences. Chapter 4 focuses on the German documentary and proposes a number of solutions to its main translation problems. Chapter 5 focuses on the Danish film and offers solutions to its translation problems. At the end of the dissertation, I will provide some comments on my internship experiences as well as on the practice of film festival subtitling.

Effect of comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation after heart valve surgery (CopenHeartVR): study protocol for a randomised clinical trial

Background Heart valve diseases are common with an estimated prevalence of 2.5% in the Western world. The number is rising due to an ageing population. Once symptomatic, heart valve diseases are potentially lethal, and heavily influence daily living and quality of life. Surgical treatment, either valve replacement or repair, remains the treatment of choice. However, post surgery, the transition to daily living may become a physical, mental and social challenge. We hypothesise that a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme can improve physical capacity and self-assessed mental health and reduce hospitalisation and healthcare costs after heart valve surgery. Methods A randomised clinical trial, CopenHeartVR, aims to investigate whether cardiac rehabilitation in addition to usual care is superior to treatment as usual after heart valve surgery. The trial will randomly allocate 210 patients, 1:1 intervention to control group, using central randomisation, and blinded outcome assessment and statistical analyses. The intervention consists of 12 weeks of physical exercise, and a psycho-educational intervention comprising five consultations. Primary outcome is peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak) measured by cardiopulmonary exercise testing with ventilatory gas analysis. Secondary outcome is self-assessed mental health measured by the standardised questionnaire Short Form 36. Also, long-term healthcare utilisation and mortality as well as biochemistry, echocardiography and cost-benefit will be assessed. A mixed-method design is used to evaluate qualitative and quantitative findings encompassing a survey-based study before the trial and a qualitative pre- and post-intervention study. Discussion The study is approved by the local regional Research Ethics Committee (H-1-2011-157), and the Danish Data Protection Agency (j.nr. 2007-58-0015).

Age determination of sediment cores from the Skagerrak

Paleoceanographic and paleoenvironmental interpretations based on foraminifera, sedimentary data, radiocarbon dates, and stable isotope measurements were derived from two sections in the Skagerrak: a 115-m-thick Holocene marine section drilled onshore at Skagen near the northernmost tip of Jutland, Denmark, and a 9-m piston core from the Skagerrak, north of Skagen. The foraminiferal data show that arctic-subarctic environments in the deep Skagerrak-Kattegat area were succeeded by boreal conditions at 9.6 ka. This was a result of northward migration of the Atlantic polar front and inflow of warm Atlantic water into the area through the Norwegian Channel. A gradual warming of the water masses after 9.6 ka is indicated by the data. Rare foraminifera and high sedimentation rates are found between approximately 8.6 ka and 7.6 ka at both core locations. The modern foraminiferal assemblages of the area were fully established at 7.6 ka indicating that the modern circulation pattern in the Skagerrak-Kattegat after the opening of the English Channel and the Danish Straits was not established before this date. At 5.5 ka a sudden change to coarser sediments (higher-energy environments) and the appearance of the foraminifer Eoeponidella laesoeensis is recorded in the Skagen core. This indicates a rapid change in the hydrography reflecting altered meteorological and hydrographic conditions in the Skagerrak-Kattegat, including a strengthening of the Jutland Current and increased inflow of North Sea water into the Kattegat. The event is interpreted as a response to cooling at the end of the Holocene climatic optimum in late Atlantic time and possibly reflects a rapid cooling event of North Atlantic surface water masses.

Rocks are human beings: researching the humanizing metaphor in earth science scientific texts

This paper describes a corpus-based analysis of the humanizing metaphor and supports that constitutive metaphor in science and technology may be highly metaphorical and active. The study, grounded in Lakoff’s Theory of Metaphor and in Langacker’s relational networks, consists of two phases: firstly, Earth Science metaphorical terms were extracted from databases and dictionaries and, then, contextualized by means of the “Wordsmith” tool in a digitalized corpus created to establish their productivity. Secondly, the terms were classified to disclose the main conceptual metaphors underlying them; then, the mappings and the relational networks of the metaphor were described. Results confirm the systematicity and productivity of the metaphor in this field, show evidence that metaphoricity of scientific terms is gradable, and support that Earth Science metaphors are not only created in terms of their concrete salient properties and attributes, but also on abstract human anthropocentric projections.

Entorno histórico y social de la aparición del microchip

El siguiente proyecto es un desarrollo histórico-científico acerca de la notoria importancia que supuso la aparición del microchip o circuito integrado1. El desarrollo de este trabajo ha sido una investigación bibliográfica en contenidos webs, enciclopedias y libros. El trabajo contiene un estudio sobre los transistores que fue el componente que dio paso al circuito integrado además de ser uno de los mayores inventos del siglo XX, además, se propone una pequeña inmersión a la época histórica del momento de la aparición del transistor. Al igual que con el transistor, se hace un estudio acerca del circuito integrado, pero en este caso siendo más extenso ya que es el objeto de estudio de este PFC. Para este componente sí que podemos encontrar una explicación más exhaustiva acerca de su fabricación, materiales. Además también podemos encontrar el momento históricosocial de la época bajo estudio. Para finalizar con el proyecto, se hace un breve repaso de los ejemplos de aplicación del circuito integrado y así poder hacer hincapié de la revolución tecnológica que supuso el descubrimiento del microchip. ABSTRACT. The following work is a historical and scientific development regarding the fundamental importance the emergence of the microchip. The development of this work has consisted of a bibliographic research of web contents, encyclopedias and books. The paper contains a study about the transistors, component that propitiated the integrated circuit and was one of the most important inventions of the XXth century. Also is proposed a short historical immersion in the time that preceded the coming of the transistor. As well as with the transistor, a study of the integrated circuit is carried out, yet with deeper insight, for that is the central aim of this Final Project report. For this component a more exhaustive explanation of its manufacture process, materials and theories can be provided. Also, the historical and social of that time is described. To complete the report, a brief review is done about examples of applications of the integrated circuit and thus highlight the technological revolution that the microchip development brought.

Using rare mutations to estimate population divergence times: A maximum likelihood approach

In this paper we propose a method to estimate by maximum likelihood the divergence time between two populations, specifically designed for the analysis of nonrecurrent rare mutations. Given the rapidly growing amount of data, rare disease mutations affecting humans seem the most suitable candidates for this method. The estimator RD, and its conditional version RDc, were derived, assuming that the population dynamics of rare alleles can be described by using a birth–death process approximation and that each mutation arose before the split of a common ancestral population into the two diverging populations. The RD estimator seems more suitable for large sample sizes and few alleles, whose age can be approximated, whereas the RDc estimator appears preferable when this is not the case. When applied to three cystic fibrosis mutations, the estimator RD could not exclude a very recent time of divergence among three Mediterranean populations. On the other hand, the divergence time between these populations and the Danish population was estimated to be, on the average, 4,500 or 15,000 years, assuming or not a selective advantage for cystic fibrosis carriers, respectively. Confidence intervals are large, however, and can probably be reduced only by analyzing more alleles or loci.

LIBRARY: A DEFINITION FROM ANOTHER CONTEXT

This essay presents a series of discussions revolving around the discipline of library professionals who are trained in it.It covers the concept of Library from the formal point of view, contributed by some authors and dictionaries, but also from the particular vision of the author, who conceptualized from the working level, academy, research and daily contact with users.Therefore, it is a short journey from the traditional to the current reality with the inclusion of information technology and communication. But above all, a journey of a very personal feel.
