The strength and nature of the video game practice effect on tests of visual and perceptual skills were examined using high functioning Grades Four and Five students who had been tested with the WISC-R .for the purpose of gifted identification and placement. The control group, who did not own and .play video games on a sustained basis, and the experimental group, who did own a video game system and had some mastery of video games, including the -Nintendo game, "Tetris", were each composed of 18 juniorg:r;-ade students and were chosen from pre-existing conditions. The experimental group corresponded to the control group in terms of age, sex, and community. Data on the Verbal and Performance I.Q. Scores were· collected for both groups and the author was interested in the difference between the Verbal and Performance Scores within each group, anticipating a P > V outcome for the experimental group. The results showed a significant P > V difference in the experimental, video game playing group, as expected, but no significant difference between the Performance $cores of the control and experimental groups. The results, thus, indicated lower Verbal I.Q. Scores in the experimental group relat'ive to 'the control group.' The study conclu~ed that information about a sUbject's video game experience and "learhing style pref~rence is important for a clear interpretation of the Verbal and Performance I.Q. Scores of the WISC-R. Although the time spent on video game play may, 'indeed, increase P~rformance Scores relative to Verbal Scores for an individual, the possibilities exist that the time borrowed and spent away from language based activities may retard verbal growth and/or that the cognitive style associated with some Performance I.Q.subtests may have a negative effect on the approach to the tasks on the Verbal I.Q. Scale. The study also discussed the possibility that exposure to ,the video game experience, in pre-puberty, can provide spatial instruction which will result in improved spatial skills. strong spatial skills have been linked to improved performance and preference in mathematics, science, and engineering and it was suggested that appropriate video game play might be a way to involve girls more in the fields of mathematics and science.

The human neuromuscular system is susceptible to changes within the thermal environment. Cold extrinsic temperatures can significantly reduce muscle and nervous system function and communication, which can have consequences for motor performance. A repeated measures design protocol exposed participants to a 12°C cold water immersion (CWI) up to the ankle, knee, and hip to determine the effect that reduced skin and muscle temperature had on balance and strength task execution. Although a linear reduction in the ability to perform balance tasks was seen from the control condition through to the hip CWI, results from the study indicated a significant reduction in dynamic balance (Star Excursion Balance Test reach distance) performance from only the hip CWI (P<0.05). This reduced performance could have been due to an increase in joint stiffness, increased agonist-antagonist co-contraction, and/or reduced isokinetic muscular strength. Reduced physical performance due to cold temperature could negatively impact outdoor recreational athletics.

This study examined muscle strength, muscle performance, and neuromuscular function during contractions at different velocities across maturation stages and between sexes. Participants included pre-pubertal, late-pubertal and adult males and females. All completed 8 isometric and 8 isokinetic leg extensions at two different velocities. Peak torque (PT), rate of torque development (PrTD), electromechanical-day (EMD), rate of muscle activation (Q30), muscle activation efficiency and coactivation were determined. Sex, maturity, and velocity main effects were found in PT and PrTD, reflecting greater values in men, adults, and isometric contractions respectively. When values were normalized to quadriceps cross-sectional area (qCSA), there was still an increase with maturity. EMD decreased with maturity. Adults had greater activation efficiency than children. Overall, differences in muscle size and neuromuscular function failed to explain group differences in PT or PrTD. More research is needed to investigate why adults may be affected to a greater extent by increasing movement velocity.

This study examined the effect of 8-weeks of resistance (RT) and plyometric (PLYO) training on maximal strength, power and jump performance compared with no added training (CON), in young male soccer players. Forty-one 11-13 year-old soccer players were divided into three groups (RT, PLYO, CON). All participants completed 5 isometric knee extensions at 90° and 5 isokinetic knee extensions at 240°/s pre- and post-training. Peak torque (PT), peak rate of torque development (pRTD), electromechanical-day (EMD), rate of muscle activation (Q30), muscle cross-sectional area (mCSA) and jump performance were examined. Both RT and PLYO resulted in significant (p < 0.05) increases in PT, pRTD and jump performance. RT resulted in significantly greater increases in both isometric and isokinetic PT, while PLYO resulted in significantly greater increases in isometric pRTD and jump performance compared with CON (p < 0.05). Q30 increased to a greater extent in PLYO (20%) compared with RT (5%) and CON (-5%) (p = 0.1). In conclusion, 8-weeks of RT and PLYO resulted in significant improvements in muscle strength and jump performance. RT appears to be more effective at eliciting increases in maximal strength while PLYO appears to enhance explosive strength, mediated by possible increases in the rate of muscle activation.

Le thème de la motivation au travail en lien avec la performance des employés captive l’intérêt des théoriciens, des chercheurs, des praticiens et des gestionnaires depuis déjà près d’un siècle. L’engouement pour l’étude de ces concepts a permis de faire des avancées scientifiques notables permettant de mieux éclairer la pratique. Cependant, on constate que la popularité de la motivation présente également certains enjeux. Notamment, la pluralité des théories rend le domaine presque étourdissant par ses connaissances éparses et ses résultats équivoques. En premier lieu, cette thèse présente une méta-analyse multithéorique réalisée à partir d’études effectuées sur le terrain examinant les liens entre la motivation au travail et la performance des travailleurs entre 1985 et 2010. Les résultats de ce bilan nous indiquent que, peu importe la théorie motivationnelle employée, la force et la direction de la relation motivation-performance sont similaires plutôt que différentes. Parmi les variables modératrices examinées, seule la source des mesures s’est révélée significative indiquant que la relation entre les variables d’intérêt est plus forte lorsque les mesures proviennent de la même source – dans notre étude elles s’avèrent toutes autodéclarées – comparativement à lorsqu’elles sont recueillies auprès de sources différentes. En second lieu, une étude en laboratoire a permis d’observer que la motivation peut évoluer sur une période très courte, soit de moins de 90 minutes, à partir de 3 mesures de motivation réparties dans le temps d’expérimentation. Plus spécifiquement, l’étude de la motivation par type et par quantité, en considérant le facteur temps, nous renseigne que la motivation intrinsèque a augmenté tandis que la motivation extrinsèque et l’amotivation ont connu une diminution. Cette étude, considérant une perspective multidimensionnelle et dynamique de la motivation, telle que proposée par le cadre conceptuel de la théorie de l’autodétermination, montre que l’évolution de la motivation de tous les participants à l’étude est semblable, peu importe leur performance. En plus de permettre l’avancement des connaissances dans le domaine de la motivation et de la performance au travail, cette thèse se démarque à plusieurs égards. D’un côté, il s’agit de la première méta-analyse multithéorique de la motivation qui soit réalisée. De l’autre côté, l’étude en laboratoire a examiné simultanément, le type et la quantité de la motivation à l’aide d’un devis à mesures répétées alors que la majorité des études se concentrent soit sur la quantité, soit sur le type et néglige souvent de considérer la variable temps. En outre, cette étude en laboratoire a été réalisée à partir d’une activité à haut potentiel de validité écologique, s’apparentant à une tâche de sélection de candidats en ressources humaines. En somme, cette thèse apporte un éclairage intéressant tant sur le plan des connaissances concernant les variables modératrices déterminantes impliquées dans les relations motivation-performance et sur le plan du rythme des variations des types de motivation que sur le plan de l’utilisation optimale et complémentaire de techniques de recherche sophistiquées. L’ensemble des recommandations découlant de ces deux études concernant la recherche et l’intervention est présenté en conclusion.

La perception est de plus en plus reconnue comme fondamentale à la compréhension du phénotype autistique. La première description de l’autisme, par Kanner en 1947, fait état d’un profil cognitif hétérogène caractérisé par des habiletés exceptionnelles à l’intérieur de domaines spécifiques de la perception (ex., la musique). L’accumulation des observations cliniques sur la présence de particularités perceptives a mené à l’élaboration d’études empiriques permettant d’objectiver des surfonctionnements dans le traitement élémentaire de l’information perceptive dans l’autisme. Parallèlement, des études cognitives suggèrent la présence d’une « intelligence différente » chez les personnes autistes. Celle-ci serait caractérisée par une dissociation entre des performances à différents tests d’intelligence fortement corrélés ensemble chez les personnes typiques. Le potentiel intellectuel des personnes autistes serait sous-estimé lorsque mesuré par l’échelle de Wechsler, plutôt que des mesures d’intelligence fluide comme les Matrices Progressives de Raven. Avec l’appui d’études en imagerie cérébrale, ces résultats suggèrent une relation unique entre la perception et l’intelligence chez cette population clinique. Étant donné l’accumulation de preuves sur 1) la présence d’atypies perceptuelles, 2) le rôle différent de la perception dans l’intelligence et 3) l’importance des comportements répétitifs et intérêts restreints dans le phénotype autistique (DSM-5), le premier volet de cette thèse s’est intéressé à la relation entre les performances perceptives des personnes autistes et celle des personnes ayant un développement typique, au-delà de ce qui est expliqué par l’intelligence. À l’aide de modèles de régression linéaire, les résultats démontrent un profil de covariation spécifique à l’autisme pour les habiletés plurimodales. Contrairement aux personnes ayant un développement typique, ces associations persistent au-delà de ce qui est expliqué par l’intelligence générale ou par l’efficacité générale des systèmes perceptifs. Ce profil de covariation résiduelle propre aux personnes autistes suggère la présence d’un facteur plurimodal spécifique à ce groupe clinique : le facteur « p ». Le deuxième volet de cette thèse s’est intéressé à la prévalence des habiletés exceptionnelles au niveau individuel, la relation les forces perceptives et les talents, ainsi qu’aux facteurs de prédisposition en lien avec le développement d’habiletés exceptionnelles. Les forces perceptives des personnes autistes furent évaluées à l’aide de tâches expérimentales sensibles à la détection de surfonctionnements perceptifs, soit une tâche de discrimination de hauteurs sonores et une version modifiée du sous-test « Blocs » de l’échelle d’intelligence de Wechsler. Les talents furent évalués de manière clinique à l’aide de l’ADI-R (« Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised »). Les données indiquent que 88.4 % des personnes autistes avec une intelligence dans la normale présentent au moins une habileté exceptionnelle (force perceptive ou talent). Les talents sont rapportés chez 62.5 % des cas et les forces perceptives se retrouvent chez 58 % des cas. La cooccurrence des forces perceptives entre les modalités perceptives est relativement peu fréquente (24 % à 27 %) et la présence d’un talent dans une modalité n’augmente pas les chances de présenter une force perceptive dans une même modalité. Une plus grande intelligence augmente les chances de présenter au moins un talent. En revanche, une intelligence plus faible, mais se situant tout de même dans les limites de la normale, est associée à un profil cognitif plus hétérogène avec des forces perceptives plus fréquentes. En somme, l’intelligence autistique serait caractérisée par un rôle plus important de la perception, indépendamment des surfonctionnements perceptifs. Cette particularité cognitive se manifesterait par la présence d’un facteur plurimodal, « p », spécifique à l’autisme. Théoriquement, le facteur « p » reflèterait des modifications innées (ou « hardwired ») dans l’organisation corticale des microcircuits responsables de l'encodage des dimensions perceptives élémentaires. En revanche, une faible association intermodale entre les forces perceptives suggère que des modifications corticales sont essentielles, mais non suffisantes pour le développement d’habiletés exceptionnelles. Par des processus de plasticité, des modifications corticales auraient des répercussions sur le phénotype autistique en offrant une base plus « fertile » pour le développement d’habiletés exceptionnelles, voire savantes, lorsque la personne autiste serait exposée à des expériences de vie avantageuses. Par ailleurs, les résultats de cette thèse, combinés à la littérature existante sur l’intelligence et l’apprentissage des personnes autistes, nous amènent à réfléchir sur les approches d’évaluation et d’intervention les mieux adaptées au fonctionnement spécifique de cette population clinique.

Systems which employ underwater acoustic energy for observation or communication are called sonar systems. The active and passive sonars are the two types of systems used for the detection and localisation of targets in underwater. Active sonar involves the transmission of an acoustic signal which, when reflected from a target, provides the sonar receiver with a basis for the detection and estimation. Passive sonar bases its detection and estimation on sounds which emanate from the target itself--Machinery noise, flow noise, transmission from its own active sonar etc.Electroacoustic transducers are used in sonar systems for the transmission and detection of acoustic energy. The transducer which is used for the transmission of acoustic energy is called projector and the one used for reception is called hydrophone. Since a single transducer is not sufficient enough for long range and directional transmission, a properly distributed array of transducers are to be used [9-11].The need and requirement for spatial processing to generate the most favourable directivity patterns for transducer systems used in underwater applications have already been analysed by several investigators [12-21].The desired directivity pattern can be either generated by the use of suitable focussing techniques or by an array of non-directional sensor elements, whose arrangements, spacing and the mode of excitation provide the required radiation pattern or by the combination of these.While computing that the directivity pattern, it is assumed strength of the elements are unaffected by the the source acoustic pressure at each source. However, in closely packed a r r a y s , the acoustic interaction effects experienced among the elements will modify the behaviour of individual elements and in turn will reduce the acoust ic source leve 1 wi t h respect to the maximum t heoret i cal va 1ue a s well as degrade the beam pa t tern. The increasing tempo of construction activity the world over creates heavy pressure on existing land space. The quest for new and competent site often points to the needs for improving existing sites, which are otherwise deemed unsuitable for adopting conventional foundations. This is accomplished by ground improvement methods, which are employed to improve the quality of soil incompetent in their natural state. Among the construction activities, a well-connected road network is one of the basic infrastructure requirements, which play a vital role for the fast and comfortable movement of inter- regional traffic in countries like India.One of the innovative ground improvement techniques practised all over the world is the use of geosynthetics, which include geotextiles, geomembranes, geogrids, etc . They offer the advantages such as space saving, enviromnental sensitivity, material availability, technical superiority, higher cost savings, less construction time, etc . Because of its fundamental properties, such as tensile strength, filtering and water permeability, a geotextile inserted between the base material and sub grade can function as reinforcement, a filter medium, a separation layer and as a drainage medium. Though polymeric geotextiles are used in abundant quantities, the use of natural geotextiles (like coir, jute, etc.) has yet to get momentum. This is primarily due to the lack of research work on natural geotextilcs for ground improvement, particularly in the areas of un paved roads. Coir geotextiles are best suited for low cost applications because of its availability at low prices compared to its synthetic counterparts. The proper utilisation of coir geotextilcs in various applications demands large quantities of the product, which in turn can create a boom in the coir industry. The present study aims at exploring the possibilities of utilising coir geotextiles for unpaved roads and embankments.The properties of coir geotextiles used have been evaluated. The properties studied include mass per unit area, puncture resistance, tensile strength, secant modulus, etc . The interfacial friction between soils and three types of coir geotextiles used was also evaluated. It was found that though the parameters evaluated for coir geotextiles have low values compared to polymeric geotextiles, the former are sufficient for use in unpaved roads and embankments. The frictional characteristics of coir geotextile - soil interfaces are extremely good and satisfy the condition set by the International Geosynthetic Society for varied applications.The performance of coir geotextiles reinforced subgrade was studied by conducting California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests. Studies were made with coir geotextiles placed at different levels and also in multiple layers. The results have shown that the coir geotextile enhances the subgrade strength. A regression analysis was perfonned and a mathematical model was developed to predict the CBR of the coir geotextile reinforced subgrade soil as a function of the soil properties, coir geotextile properties, and placement depth of reinforcement.The effects of coir geotextiles on bearing capacity were studied by perfonning plate load tests in a test tan1e This helped to understand the functioning of geotextile as reinforcement in unpaved roads and embankments. The perfonnance of different types of coir geotextiles with respect to the placement depth in dry and saturated conditions was studied. The results revealed that the bearing capacity of coir-reinforced soil is increasing irrespective of the type of coir geotextiles and saturation condition.The rut behaviour of unreinforced and coir reinforced unpaved road sections were compared by conducting model static load tests in a test tank and also under repetitive loads in a wheel track test facility. The results showed that coir geotextiles could fulfill the functions as reinforcement and as a separator, both under static and repetitive loads. The rut depth was very much reduced whik placing coir geotextiles in between sub grade and sub base.In order to study the use of Coir geotextiles in improving the settlement characteristics, two types of prefabricated COlf geotextile vertical drains were developed and their time - settlement behaviour were studied. Three different dispositions were tried. It was found that the coir geotextile drains were very effective in reducing consolidation time due to radial drainage. The circular drains in triangular disposition gave maximum beneficial effect.In long run, the degradation of coir geotextile is expected, which results in a soil - fibre matrix. Hence, studies pertaining to strength and compressibility characteristics of soil - coir fibre composites were conducted. Experiments were done using coir fibres having different aspect ratios and in different proportions. The results revealed that the strength of the soil was increased by 150% to 200% when mixed with 2% of fibre having approximately 12mm length, at all compaction conditions. Also, the coefficient of consolidation increased and compression index decreased with the addition of coir fibre.Typical design charts were prepared for the design of coir geotextile reinforced unpaved roads. Some illustrative examples are also given. The results demonstrated that a considerable saving in subase / base thickness can he achieved with the use of eoir geotextiles, which in turn, would save large quantities of natural aggregates.

High strength and high performance concrete are being widely used all over the world. Most of the applications of high strength concrete have been found in high rise buildings, long span bridges etc. The potential of rice husk ash as a cement replacement material is well established .Earlier researches showed an improvement in mechanical properties of high strength concrete with finely ground RHA as a partial cement replacement material. A review of literature urges the need for optimizing the replacement level of cement with RHA for improved mechanical properties at optimum water binder ratio. This paper discusses the mechanical properties of RHA- High strength concrete at optimized conditions

The country has witnessed tremendous increase in the vehicle population and increased axle loading pattern during the last decade, leaving its road network overstressed and leading to premature failure. The type of deterioration present in the pavement should be considered for determining whether it has a functional or structural deficiency, so that appropriate overlay type and design can be developed. Structural failure arises from the conditions that adversely affect the load carrying capability of the pavement structure. Inadequate thickness, cracking, distortion and disintegration cause structural deficiency. Functional deficiency arises when the pavement does not provide a smooth riding surface and comfort to the user. This can be due to poor surface friction and texture, hydro planning and splash from wheel path, rutting and excess surface distortion such as potholes, corrugation, faulting, blow up, settlement, heaves etc. Functional condition determines the level of service provided by the facility to its users at a particular time and also the Vehicle Operating Costs (VOC), thus influencing the national economy. Prediction of the pavement deterioration is helpful to assess the remaining effective service life (RSL) of the pavement structure on the basis of reduction in performance levels, and apply various alternative designs and rehabilitation strategies with a long range funding requirement for pavement preservation. In addition, they can predict the impact of treatment on the condition of the sections. The infrastructure prediction models can thus be classified into four groups, namely primary response models, structural performance models, functional performance models and damage models. The factors affecting the deterioration of the roads are very complex in nature and vary from place to place. Hence there is need to have a thorough study of the deterioration mechanism under varied climatic zones and soil conditions before arriving at a definite strategy of road improvement. Realizing the need for a detailed study involving all types of roads in the state with varying traffic and soil conditions, the present study has been attempted. This study attempts to identify the parameters that affect the performance of roads and to develop performance models suitable to Kerala conditions. A critical review of the various factors that contribute to the pavement performance has been presented based on the data collected from selected road stretches and also from five corporations of Kerala. These roads represent the urban conditions as well as National Highways, State Highways and Major District Roads in the sub urban and rural conditions. This research work is a pursuit towards a study of the road condition of Kerala with respect to varying soil, traffic and climatic conditions, periodic performance evaluation of selected roads of representative types and development of distress prediction models for roads of Kerala. In order to achieve this aim, the study is focused into 2 parts. The first part deals with the study of the pavement condition and subgrade soil properties of urban roads distributed in 5 Corporations of Kerala; namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur and Kozhikode. From selected 44 roads, 68 homogeneous sections were studied. The data collected on the functional and structural condition of the surface include pavement distress in terms of cracks, potholes, rutting, raveling and pothole patching. The structural strength of the pavement was measured as rebound deflection using Benkelman Beam deflection studies. In order to collect the details of the pavement layers and find out the subgrade soil properties, trial pits were dug and the in-situ field density was found using the Sand Replacement Method. Laboratory investigations were carried out to find out the subgrade soil properties, soil classification, Atterberg limits, Optimum Moisture Content, Field Moisture Content and 4 days soaked CBR. The relative compaction in the field was also determined. The traffic details were also collected by conducting traffic volume count survey and axle load survey. From the data thus collected, the strength of the pavement was calculated which is a function of the layer coefficient and thickness and is represented as Structural Number (SN). This was further related to the CBR value of the soil and the Modified Structural Number (MSN) was found out. The condition of the pavement was represented in terms of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) which is a function of the distress of the surface at the time of the investigation and calculated in the present study using deduct value method developed by U S Army Corps of Engineers. The influence of subgrade soil type and pavement condition on the relationship between MSN and rebound deflection was studied using appropriate plots for predominant types of soil and for classified value of Pavement Condition Index. The relationship will be helpful for practicing engineers to design the overlay thickness required for the pavement, without conducting the BBD test. Regression analysis using SPSS was done with various trials to find out the best fit relationship between the rebound deflection and CBR, and other soil properties for Gravel, Sand, Silt & Clay fractions. The second part of the study deals with periodic performance evaluation of selected road stretches representing National Highway (NH), State Highway (SH) and Major District Road (MDR), located in different geographical conditions and with varying traffic. 8 road sections divided into 15 homogeneous sections were selected for the study and 6 sets of continuous periodic data were collected. The periodic data collected include the functional and structural condition in terms of distress (pothole, pothole patch, cracks, rutting and raveling), skid resistance using a portable skid resistance pendulum, surface unevenness using Bump Integrator, texture depth using sand patch method and rebound deflection using Benkelman Beam. Baseline data of the study stretches were collected as one time data. Pavement history was obtained as secondary data. Pavement drainage characteristics were collected in terms of camber or cross slope using camber board (slope meter) for the carriage way and shoulders, availability of longitudinal side drain, presence of valley, terrain condition, soil moisture content, water table data, High Flood Level, rainfall data, land use and cross slope of the adjoining land. These data were used for finding out the drainage condition of the study stretches. Traffic studies were conducted, including classified volume count and axle load studies. From the field data thus collected, the progression of each parameter was plotted for all the study roads; and validated for their accuracy. Structural Number (SN) and Modified Structural Number (MSN) were calculated for the study stretches. Progression of the deflection, distress, unevenness, skid resistance and macro texture of the study roads were evaluated. Since the deterioration of the pavement is a complex phenomena contributed by all the above factors, pavement deterioration models were developed as non linear regression models, using SPSS with the periodic data collected for all the above road stretches. General models were developed for cracking progression, raveling progression, pothole progression and roughness progression using SPSS. A model for construction quality was also developed. Calibration of HDM–4 pavement deterioration models for local conditions was done using the data for Cracking, Raveling, Pothole and Roughness. Validation was done using the data collected in 2013. The application of HDM-4 to compare different maintenance and rehabilitation options were studied considering the deterioration parameters like cracking, pothole and raveling. The alternatives considered for analysis were base alternative with crack sealing and patching, overlay with 40 mm BC using ordinary bitumen, overlay with 40 mm BC using Natural Rubber Modified Bitumen and an overlay of Ultra Thin White Topping. Economic analysis of these options was done considering the Life Cycle Cost (LCC). The average speed that can be obtained by applying these options were also compared. The results were in favour of Ultra Thin White Topping over flexible pavements. Hence, Design Charts were also plotted for estimation of maximum wheel load stresses for different slab thickness under different soil conditions. The design charts showed the maximum stress for a particular slab thickness and different soil conditions incorporating different k values. These charts can be handy for a design engineer. Fuzzy rule based models developed for site specific conditions were compared with regression models developed using SPSS. The Riding Comfort Index (RCI) was calculated and correlated with unevenness to develop a relationship. Relationships were developed between Skid Number and Macro Texture of the pavement. The effort made through this research work will be helpful to highway engineers in understanding the behaviour of flexible pavements in Kerala conditions and for arriving at suitable maintenance and rehabilitation strategies. This paper describes a general, trainable architecture for object detection that has previously been applied to face and peoplesdetection with a new application to car detection in static images. Our technique is a learning based approach that uses a set of labeled training data from which an implicit model of an object class -- here, cars -- is learned. Instead of pixel representations that may be noisy and therefore not provide a compact representation for learning, our training images are transformed from pixel space to that of Haar wavelets that respond to local, oriented, multiscale intensity differences. These feature vectors are then used to train a support vector machine classifier. The detection of cars in images is an important step in applications such as traffic monitoring, driver assistance systems, and surveillance, among others. We show several examples of car detection on out-of-sample images and show an ROC curve that highlights the performance of our system.

El propósito de esta investigación es describir la percepción de los egresados titulados y empleadores acerca de la pertinencia de la formación de programas académicos de Magíster en Administración ofrecidos por las Instituciones de Educación Superior en Bogotá. Además a través de esta investigación es posible determinar su importancia en el desarrollo y potencialización de las capacidades, habilidades y destrezas directivas y gerenciales necesarias para desempeñarse dentro de una empresa perdurable, coherentes con la realidad social, laboral, cultural y ambiental. Para ello, se hace un análisis del grado de satisfacción de los egresados titulados y empleadores permitiendo conocer las fortalezas y debilidades del programa. En consecuencia fue posible proponer recomendaciones y conclusiones para mejorar el programa, asegurando un camino para aportar “el estado del arte “ de la Administración para los futuros estudiantes y en beneficio de las compañías.

Kieker provides complementary dynamic analysis capabilities, i.e., monitoring/profiling and analyzing a software system's runtime behavior. Application Performance Monitoring is concerned with continuously observing a software system's performance-specific runtime behavior, including analyses like assessing service level compliance or detecting and diagnosing performance problems. Architecture Discovery is concerned with extracting architectural information from an existing software system, including both structural and behavioral aspects like identifying architectural entities (e.g., components and classes) and their interactions (e.g., local or remote procedure calls). In addition to the Architecture Discovery of Java systems, Kieker supports Architecture Discovery for other platforms, including legacy systems, for instance, inplemented in C#, C++, Visual Basic 6, COBOL or Perl. Thanks to Kieker's extensible architecture it is easy to implement and use custom extensions and plugins. Kieker was designed for continuous monitoring in production systems inducing only a very low overhead, which has been evaluated in extensive benchmark experiments. Background: Isometric grip strength, evaluated with a handgrip dynamometer, is a marker of current nutritional status and cardiometabolic risk and future morbidity and mortality. We present reference values for handgrip strength in healthy young Colombian adults (aged 18 to 29 years). Methods: The sample comprised 5.647 (2.330 men and 3.317 women) apparently healthy young university students (mean age, 20.6±2.7 years) attending public and private institutions in the cities of Bogota and Cali (Colombia). Handgrip strength was measured two times with a TKK analogue dynamometer in both hands and the highest value used in the analysis. Sex- and age-specific normative values for handgrip strength were calculated using the LMS method and expressed as tabulated percentiles from 3 to 97 and as smoothed centile curves (P3, P10, P25, P50, P75, P90 and P97). Results: Mean values for right and left handgrip strength were 38.1±8.9 and 35.9±8.6 kg for men, and 25.1±8.7 and 23.3±8.2 kg for women, respectively. Handgrip strength increased with age in both sexes and was significantly higher in men in all age categories. The results were generally more homogeneous amongst men than women. Conclusions: Sex- and age-specific handgrip strength normative values among healthy young Colombian adults are defined. This information may be helpful in future studies of secular trends in handgrip strength and to identify clinically relevant cut points for poor nutritional and elevated cardiometabolic risk in a Latin American population. Evidence of decline in handgrip strength before the end of the third decade is of concern and warrants further investigation

The influence of the basis set size and the correlation energy in the static electrical properties of the CO molecule is assessed. In particular, we have studied both the nuclear relaxation and the vibrational contributions to the static molecular electrical properties, the vibrational Stark effect (VSE) and the vibrational intensity effect (VIE). From a mathematical point of view, when a static and uniform electric field is applied to a molecule, the energy of this system can be expressed in terms of a double power series with respect to the bond length and to the field strength. From the power series expansion of the potential energy, field-dependent expressions for the equilibrium geometry, for the potential energy and for the force constant are obtained. The nuclear relaxation and vibrational contributions to the molecular electrical properties are analyzed in terms of the derivatives of the electronic molecular properties. In general, the results presented show that accurate inclusion of the correlation energy and large basis sets are needed to calculate the molecular electrical properties and their derivatives with respect to either nuclear displacements or/and field strength. With respect to experimental data, the calculated power series coefficients are overestimated by the SCF, CISD, and QCISD methods. On the contrary, perturbation methods (MP2 and MP4) tend to underestimate them. In average and using the 6-311 + G(3df) basis set and for the CO molecule, the nuclear relaxation and the vibrational contributions to the molecular electrical properties amount to 11.7%, 3.3%, and 69.7% of the purely electronic μ, α, and β values, respectively
