We investigate protocols for generating a state t-design by using a fixed separable initial state and a diagonal-unitary t-design in the computational basis, which is a t-design of an ensemble of diagonal unitary matrices with random phases as their eigenvalues. We first show that a diagonal-unitary t-design generates a O (1/2(N))-approximate state t-design, where N is the number of qubits. We then discuss a way of improving the degree of approximation by exploiting non-diagonal gates after applying a diagonal-unitary t-design. We also show that it is necessary and sufficient to use O (log(2)(t)) -qubit gates with random phases to generate a diagonal-unitary t-design by diagonal quantum circuits, and that each multi-qubit diagonal gate can be replaced by a sequence of multi-qubit controlled-phase-type gates with discrete-valued random phases. Finally, we analyze the number of gates for implementing a diagonal-unitary t-design by non-diagonal two- and one-qubit gates. Our results provide a concrete application of diagonal quantum circuits in quantum informational tasks.

We construct parent Hamiltonians involving only local 2-body interactions for a broad class of projected entangled pair states (PEPS). Making use of perturbation gadget techniques, we define a perturbative Hamiltonian acting on the virtual PEPS space with a finite order low energy effective Hamiltonian that is a gapped, frustration-free parent Hamiltonian for an encoded version of a desired PEPS. For topologically ordered PEPS, the ground space of the low energy effective Hamiltonian is shown to be in the same phase as the desired state to all orders of perturbation theory. An encoded parent Hamiltonian for the double semion string net ground state is explicitly constructed as a concrete example.

Kinder werden gemeinhin als Adressaten, aber weniger als Akteure von institutionellen Angeboten der Bildung und Betreuung in früher Kindheit wahrgenommen – und das obwohl sie ein komplexes Leben zwischen Familie, Kindertagesbetreuung und Vorschule führen. Das Forschungsprojekt CHILD - Children in the Luxembourgian Day Care System hat das Feld der frühen Bildung und Betreuung von der Position der Kinder aus betrachtet und in kindheitstheoretischer und praxisanalytischer Perspektive nach der Vielfalt betreuter Kindheiten gefragt. Vom Standpunkt der Kinder aus differenziert sich das Luxemburger Feld von Bildung und Betreuung in früher Kindheit in vielfältige Bildungs- und Betreuungsarrangements aus. Sie bestimmen nicht nur die Erfahrungen, die Kinder mit nicht-familialer Bildung und Betreuung machen – und man muss hinzufügen: die nur Kinder machen –, sondern sie bedingen auch die strukturelle Position der Kinder als Mitgestalter von Bildungs- und Betreuungslandschaften früher Kindheit. Bildungs- und Betreuungsarrangements sind eine Domäne der Kinder, obwohl sie sich in einem Zusammenspiel vieler aufeinander bezogener Orte, Kontexte und Akteure realisieren. In diesem Forschungsbericht werden acht ethnographische Fallstudien präsentiert, welche die Multilokalität, Multikontextualität und Multiperspektivität der Bildungs- und Betreuungsarrangements zwei- bis vierjähriger Kinder im Lichte der Alltagspraxis der Kinder analysieren. Die acht Fallstudien zeigen daher nicht nur, dass und wie Kinder zur täglichen Herstellung des Feldes früher Bildung und Betreuung beitragen, sie machen auch die Vielfalt betreuter Kindheiten in Luxemburg sichtbar. Single-crystal structure refinements on lithium lanthanum zirconate (LLZO; Li7La3Zr2O12) substituted with gallium were successfully carried out in the cubic symmetry space group I [Formula: see text]3d. Gallium was found on two lithium sites as well as on the lanthanum position. Due to the structural distortion of the resulting Li6.43(2)Ga0.52(3)La2.67(4)Zr2O12 (Ga-LLZO) single crystals, a reduction of the LLZO cubic garnet symmetry from Ia[Formula: see text] d to I [Formula: see text]3d was necessary, which could hardly be analysed from X-ray powder diffraction data.

Background: Understanding transcriptional regulation by genome-wide microarray studies can contribute to unravel complex relationships between genes. Attempts to standardize the annotation of microarray data include the Minimum Information About a Microarray Experiment (MIAME) recommendations, the MAGE-ML format for data interchange, and the use of controlled vocabularies or ontologies. The existing software systems for microarray data analysis implement the mentioned standards only partially and are often hard to use and extend. Integration of genomic annotation data and other sources of external knowledge using open standards is therefore a key requirement for future integrated analysis systems. Results: The EMMA 2 software has been designed to resolve shortcomings with respect to full MAGE-ML and ontology support and makes use of modern data integration techniques. We present a software system that features comprehensive data analysis functions for spotted arrays, and for the most common synthesized oligo arrays such as Agilent, Affymetrix and NimbleGen. The system is based on the full MAGE object model. Analysis functionality is based on R and Bioconductor packages and can make use of a compute cluster for distributed services. Conclusion: Our model-driven approach for automatically implementing a full MAGE object model provides high flexibility and compatibility. Data integration via SOAP-based web-services is advantageous in a distributed client-server environment as the collaborative analysis of microarray data is gaining more and more relevance in international research consortia. The adequacy of the EMMA 2 software design and implementation has been proven by its application in many distributed functional genomics projects. Its scalability makes the current architecture suited for extensions towards future transcriptomics methods based on high-throughput sequencing approaches which have much higher computational requirements than microarrays.

The title compound, C(16)H(18)O(2)P(2), possesses two stereogenic P atoms and shows a distorted s-cis conformation of each O=P-C=C moiety. This has been suggested on the basis of the stereochemical result of 1,3-dipolar cyclo-additions with nitro-nes and is now confirmed by the present crystal structure analysis. There are two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit.

The stability of Ag-TiO(2) photocatalysts was examined for the photocatalytic degradation of dichloroacetic acid (DCA) as a function of the recycling times. The photocatalytic activity was investigated by measuring the rate of H(+) ions released during the photodegradation of DCA and confirmed by measuring the total organic carbon removal. The photodegradation reactions were studied at pH 3 and pH 10 for a series of Ag-TiO(2) photocatalysts as different with Ag loadings. All the Ag-TiO(2) and bare TiO(2) photocatalysts showed a decrease in photocatalytic activity on recycling for the DCA photodegradation reaction. The decrease in activity can be attributed to poisoning of active sites by Cl(-) anions formed during the photocatalytic DCA degradation. The photocatalytic activity was, however, easily recovered by a simple washing technique. The reversibility of the poisoning is taken as evidence to support the idea that the recycling of Ag-P25 TiO(2) photocatalysts does not have a permanent negative effect on their photocatalytic performance for the degradation of DCA. The choice of the preparation procedure for the Ag-TiO2 photocatalysts is shown to be of significant importance for the observed changes in the photocatalytic activity of the Ag-TiO2 particles. The photodenitrogenation of vinyl azides to 2H-azirines by using a photoflow reactor is reported and compared with thermal formation of 2H-azirines. Photochemically, the ring of the 2H-azirines was opened to yield the nitrile ylides, which underwent a [3 + 2]-cycloaddition with 1,3-dipolarophiles. When diisopropyl azodicarboxylate serves as the dipolarophile, 1,3,4-triazoles become directly accessible starting from the corresponding vinyl azide. © 2013 Cludius-Brandt et al.

La ovariohisterectomía es la extirpación quirúrgica de ovarios y útero que se aplica en perras para control poblacional y con fines terapéuticos o preventivos. Existen dos abordajes para realizarla, el medial y el lateral, los dos han sido descritos por varios autores de manera individual o comparándolos en animales adultos, sin embargo han sido poco estudiados en cachorras. El objetivo de esta investigación fue el de evaluar los dos abordajes en perras de 2 a 7 meses, con la finalidad de proponer a la comunidad veterinaria, el procedimiento menos invasivo, más rápido y económico.
