Lianas play a key role in many tropical forests ecosystems, contributing to community abundance, diversity and structure. Techniques to census lianas and estimate biomass have been used mainly in tropical forests. The aim of this study was to verify if different measurement location on the stem and inclusion criteria influence the estimations of liana abundance and biomass in Cerrado. The study was carried out at Itirapina fragment (ca 260 ha) located in Sao Paulo, Southeast Brazil. We measured all apparent ramets of rooted lianas by using different inclusion criteria: >= 0.5 cm in diameter at 30 cm basal area (D_30), and at 130 cm diameter breast height (DBH), in 36 transects (10 x 25 m). We compared the biomass using the allometric equation based on data from tropical florest take at 130 cm (DBH) and other The allometric biomass equation development to estimate the aboveground biomass of live lianas in tropical forests (DAP = 130 cm) was used. We tested the liana biomass, based on measurements taken at (D_30) using two different conversion equations. The results did not show significant differences in liana abundance and above ground biomass estimated applying the different criteria of inclusion However the biomass estimated from data collected at D_30 and converted into DAP showed a tendency to increase in biomass. Our findings suggest that the protocol used to the census of liana and the allometric biomass equation proposed to forests can be applied in the Cerrado.

To design connections between timber parts with metal dowels (nails or bolts), two phenomena must be considered: bending of the metal dowel and the embedment strength in the wood. The Brazilian Standard ABNT NBR 7190:1997 proposes the methods used in the laboratory tests to determine the embedment strength with the metal dowell and, in the absence of testing, specifies relations to calculate the embedment strength from the compression strength. The aim of this research was to compare the embedment strength values obtained by experimental tests and calculated by the relationships established by the Brazilian Standard ABNT NBR 7190:1997. By the results of the hypothesis tests, it was possible to conclude that the estimate of the embedment strength parallel to the grain proposed by the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190:1997, establishing equivalence with the strength compression results in the same direction, must be effective to the wood species Pinus taeda L., however, the same was not found in the perpendicular direction with respect to the grain, possibly explained by the alpha(e) values in the equation to calculed fe(90)

This paper is part of an extension project titled “The implementation of the School Development Plan in public schools of São Paulo: contradictions and implications for the educational management practice”. The School Development Plan is a program supported by the Ministry of Education through the National Fund for Education Development. Since 2010, it has been directed to state and local public schools that have not reached the goals set by the Basic Education Development Index. This research has been conducted in four public schools of an inner city of São Paulo since April 2011, in which the School Development Plan is being implemented. The objective of this study is to analyze the teachers’ concepts of learning assessment and identify the instruments used for such assessment and when they are used. The research made use of a qualitative approach. The study is based on literature review and data collected through questionnaires completed by teachers. We consider the importance of teachers monitoring the whole teaching and learning process and not only the results. However, public policies stimulate final results; thus, the study points out that teachers perform a checking, not an assessment, since there is no decision making. It is crucial to join quantity and quality when performing an assessment that diagnoses and values students and their effective learning.

Will be demonstrated here, the importance of preparing the Political-Pedagogical Project - PPP in a way that the school´s actors participate constantly. his participation is essential to promote both their production and the ongoing evaluation of activities, actions and educational purposes. Following the guidance of experienced researchers in this matter, we assume the defense of a school that favors the character of belonging for everyone: administrators, teachers, students and parents, the whole community. his study is conducted in two stages: a theoretical study, highlighting the main researches and thoughts at academic level, a documentary analysis of four schools and interviews with directors or vice directors and coordinators of schools. With this study and analysis, it is possible to realize the importance of their development and promote relection to guide those interested to a new vision or revision of structures already plastered. he school thus may undergo changes renovating their routine, making it fresh news and events, allowing the daily challenges foster contextualized strategies on concrete basis.

A pesquisa foi realizada mediante procedimentos de levantamento e análises bibliográfica e documental, e teve como objetivo analisar as principais alterações sofridas pelo Ensino Médio e Educação Profissional decorrentes da aprovação do ordenamento legal vigente: Constituição Federal de 1988, Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional – Lei nº. 9.394/96 e Decreto nº. 2.208/97, revogado pelo Decreto nº. 5.154/04. Parte de breve retrospectiva histórica acerca do surgimento e organização de tal escolaridade e, na sequência, examina as principais alterações sofridas pelo Ensino Médio e Educação Profissional trazidas pelo atual conjunto legal, consoante às orientações de reforma e racionalização do Estado, hegemônicas a partir dos anos 1990. Os resultados da pesquisa indicam que, até o momento, não foi possível ainda superar a dualidade histórica que tem prevalecido na etapa final da educação básica. Conclui, que o “Ensino Médio Inovador” pode ser um caminho viável para integração Ensino Médio e Educação Profissional.

A temática avaliação tem sido o centro de inúmeras discussões e debates, na busca constante de uma educação de qualidade. Focamos nossa discussão nas avaliações externas, realizadas pelo governo federal que abrange a educação básica (ensinos fundamental e médio) e do ensino superior. Neste estudo analisamos as atuais políticas de avaliações externas realizadas pelo governo federal, suas implicações e limitações na busca de se mensurar a qualidade da educação. Mediante pesquisas bibliográfica e documental, o estudo em questão é resultado da investigação e discussão dos estudos de alguns autores que discutiram a temática e contribuíram para a reflexão sobre as atuais políticas de avaliações externas e seus reais motivos, assim como da análise de documentos do próprio governo federal. Discutimos os exames nacionais vigentes. Na sequência analisamos os possíveis motivos e direcionamentos das avaliações nacionais. Ao final do estudo, propomos a avaliação institucional de cada escola como forma de aprimorar e ampliar o atual processo avaliativo desenvolvido pelo governo federal.

Este texto é fruto de um projeto de extensão que promove a reflexão entre professores da Universidade Estadual Paulista e diretores e supervisores da Delegacia de Ensino da Região de Marília/SP. O MEC vem defendendo a adoção do PDE nas escolas públicas que não atingiram as metas definidas pelo IDEB. Nosso objetivo é analisar as propostas do PDE, identificando suas origens, suas características e a concepção de gestão que o embasam. Do mesmo modo, confrontar com o PPP das escolas, analisando suas implicações e consequências para a gestão. A Metodologia adota as pesquisas: bibliográfica, documental (PDE e PPP) e a pesquisa ação com o grupo de estudos em que participam diretores e supervisores da rede estadual e docentes e discentes da UNESP. Como resultados, identificamos que a concepção de gestão, consubstanciada no PDE, caminha em sentido oposto ao da concepção do PPP, especialmente no que se refere à gestão democrática.

No sistema nervoso central (SNC), mecanismos excitatórios e inibitórios atuam para controlar a ingestão de água e sódio. Importantes mecanismos inibitórios da ingestão de água e sódio foram recentemente descobertos no núcleo parabraquial lateral (NPBL). Um papel importante do NPBL seria integrar as informações ascendentes da porção medial do núcleo do trato solitário (NTSm) e da área postrema (AP) que por sua vez poderiam influenciar a atividade das áreas prosencefálicas envolvidas no controle do balanço hidroeletrolítico, como núcleos específicos do hipotálamo e amígdala. Estudos prévios sugerem a presença de um importante mecanismo serotonérgico inibitório da ingestão de água e sódio no NPBL. Além do mecanismo serotonérgico também já foi demonstrado no NPBL a existência de um mecanismo colecistocinérgico que também exerce um papel inibitório sobre a ingestão de água e sódio. Em um estudo anterior em que se injetou um agonista e um antagonista inespecíficos de receptores opióides (β-endorfina e naloxona, respectivamente) no NPBL foi demonstrado que mecanismos opióides no NPBL podem modular o mecanismo inibitório da ingestão de água e sódio, porém não se sabia qual ou quais dos três subtipos de receptores opióides (μ, δ ou κ) estariam envolvidos nesse mecanismo... Introduction: Despite tooth avulsion following trauma being relatively common in children, the available studies show that adults have limited knowledge about it. Aim: The purpose of this study was to assess, by a questionnaire, the mothers’ general knowledge about the immediate management of tooth avulsion. Material and method: This descriptive study was carried out on a convenient sample of mothers (n= 65) who participated of the “Pastoral da Criança”, from Araraquara, SP, Brazil. The questionnaire comprised 15 questions about personal data and knowledge on tooth avulsion management. Results: Participants were, on average, 35 years old. A total of 30.8% of the mothers reported that their children suffered dental trauma. The majority had never received advice on this subject (76.9%); and did not know how teeth are kept in the dental arch (69.2%). Almost a half of the sample believed that an avulsed tooth can be replanted (49.2%). In relation to the management of tooth avulsion, 40% of them would clean the avulsed tooth with water, even if it was not dirty (38.5%). Most of them (69.2%) would take the tooth by hand for cleaning purposes, regardless the tooth region; and believed that brushing the tooth was important to take the dirty out (67.7%). Conclusion: The general knowledge of mothers about the immediate management of tooth avulsion was considered inadequate endangering the successful treatment of tooth avulsion.
