A Dorsal homolog (FcDorsal) in the Chinese shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis is responsive to both bacteria and WSSV challenge

Rel/NF kappa B is a family of transcription factors. In the present study, a Rel/NF kappa B family member, Dorsal homolog (FcDorsal) was cloned from the Chinese shrimp Fenneropenaeus chinensis. The full length cDNA of FcDorsal consists of 1627 bp, revealed a 1071 bp open reading frame encoding 357 aa. The predicted molecular weight (MW)of the deduced amino acid sequence of FcDorsal was 39.78 kDa, and its theoretical pl was 8.85. Amino acid sequence analysis showed that FcDorsal contains a Rel homolog domain (RHD) and an IPT/TIG (Ig-like, plexins and transcriptions factors) domain. The signature sequence of dorsal protein existed in the deduced amino acid sequence. Spatial expression profiles showed that FcDorsal had the highest expression level in the hemocytes and lymphoid organ (Oka). The expression profiles in the hemocytes and lymphoid organ were apparently modulated when shrimp were stimulated by bacteria or WSSV. Both Gram-positive (G(+)) bacteria (Micrococcus lysodeikticus) and Gram-negative (G(-)) bacteria (Vibrio anguillarium) injection to shrimp caused the up-regulation of FcDorsal at the transcription level. DsRNA approach was used to study the function of FcDorsal and the data showed that FcDorsal was related to the transcription of Penaeidin 5 in shrimp. The present data provide clues that FcDorsal might play potential important roles in the innate immunity of shrimp. Through comparison of the expression profiles between FcDorsal and another identified Rel/NF kappa B member (FcRelish) in shrimp responsive to WSSV challenge, we speculate that FcDorsal and FcRelish might play different roles in shrimp immunity. 中国明对虾核转录因子NF-κB家族基因的克隆与表达分析

对虾流行病爆发以来，我国乃至世界的对虾产业一直受到各种虾病的困扰，对虾养殖业严重受阻。解决这一问题的关键是加强对虾免疫机制的研究，并在此基础上寻找对虾疾病防治的有效方法。Rel/NF-κB是一类核转录因子，在无脊椎动物的先天性免疫中，起着极为重要的作用。 本论文根据其他无脊椎动物中NF-κB家族基因Relish和Dorsal的保守氨基酸序列分别设计简并引物，从中国明对虾血细胞cDNA中先后克隆到了Relish和Dorsal基因的部分片段，并结合SMART-RACE技术分别获得了中国明对虾Relish基因（FcRelish）和Dorsal基因（FcDorsal）的cDNA 全长。 FcRelish的cDNA 全长为2157个碱基，其中开放阅读框为1512个碱基，编码504个氨基酸；FcRelish蛋白的推导分子量为57373.5 Da，理论等电点为7.00。FcDorsal基因的cDNA 全长为1627个碱基，其中开放阅读框为1071个碱基，编码357个氨基酸；FcDorsal蛋白的推导分子量为39780.7 Da，理论等电点为8.85。 分析了FcRelish基因和FcDorsal基因的在血细胞、淋巴器官、肠和肌肉等12个组织中的表达水平。组织表达结果表明FcRelish和FcDorsal在淋巴器官和血细胞中表达水平明显高于其他组织，而淋巴器官和血细胞是对虾免疫系统中最重要的两个组织，由此可以推测中国明对虾中的Relish和Dorsal可能与免疫关系密切。 本论文还利用实时荧光定量PCR技术，对灭活鳗弧菌刺激，以及WSSV病毒刺激后，对虾血细胞和淋巴器官中FcRelish基因和FcDorsal基因的转录水平进行了研究。FcRelish基因在WSSV病毒刺激后，在血细胞和淋巴器官中都出现了波浪形变化，说明FcRelish对WSSV病毒刺激产生了应答。在灭活鳗弧菌刺激后，FcRelish在血细胞中变化不明显，而在淋巴器官中出现了两次明显的下调上调交替，出现这种现象的具体原因有待探究。在WSSV病毒刺激后，血细胞和淋巴器官中FcDorsal的转录表达呈波浪形变化。而在鳗弧菌刺激后，FcDorsal在血细胞和淋巴器官中的转录均在短时间内出现明显的上调表达，说明FcDorsal对鳗弧菌非常敏感。 作为核转录因子的NF-κB蛋白的转录激活作用需要在细胞质中通过蛋白水解作用来激活，为了进一步阐明NF-κB对病菌感染的应答机制，需要进一步研究这两种转录因子在蛋白水平的变化，以便从分子水平阐明NF-κB在对虾天然免疫中的作用。

Dibenzyl bromophenols with diverse dimerization patterns from the brown alga Leathesia nana

Six novel dibenzyl bromophenols (1-6) with different dimerization patterns and two propyl bromophenol derivatives (7 and 8), together with 11 known bromophenol derivatives, were isolated from the ethanolic extract of the brown alga Leathesia nana. On the basis of spectroscopic methods the structures of the new compounds were determined as 5,6'-diethyloxymethyl-3,4,2'-tribromo-2,3',4'-trihydroxydiphenyl ether (1), 2-(2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzyl)-3,5-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (2), 6-(2,3-dibromo-4,5dihydroxybenzyl)-2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxy benzyl methyl ether (3), 9,10-dihydro-9,10-dimethoxy-3,4,7,8-tetrabromo-1,2,5,6-tetrahydroxyanthracene (4), (+)-3-(2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-4-bromo-5,6-dihydroxy-1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran (5), rel-(4aS*,10aR*)-(+/-)-6,7-dibromo-4a-hydroxy-3,8-dihydroxymethyl-10a-methoxy- 1,4,4a, 10a-tetrahydrodibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxin-1-one (6), (E)-2-methyl-3-(2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl)propenal (7), and 2-methyl-3-(2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-1-propanol (8). Some compounds including 3 showed in vitro selective cytotoxicity against several human cancer cell lines. This is the first brown alga to be reported containing bromophenols.

Systematic Verification of Safety Properties of Arbitrary Network Protocol Compositions Using CHAIN

Formal correctness of complex multi-party network protocols can be difficult to verify. While models of specific fixed compositions of agents can be checked against design constraints, protocols which lend themselves to arbitrarily many compositions of agents-such as the chaining of proxies or the peering of routers-are more difficult to verify because they represent potentially infinite state spaces and may exhibit emergent behaviors which may not materialize under particular fixed compositions. We address this challenge by developing an algebraic approach that enables us to reduce arbitrary compositions of network agents into a behaviorally-equivalent (with respect to some correctness property) compact, canonical representation, which is amenable to mechanical verification. Our approach consists of an algebra and a set of property-preserving rewrite rules for the Canonical Homomorphic Abstraction of Infinite Network protocol compositions (CHAIN). Using CHAIN, an expression over our algebra (i.e., a set of configurations of network protocol agents) can be reduced to another behaviorally-equivalent expression (i.e., a smaller set of configurations). Repeated applications of such rewrite rules produces a canonical expression which can be checked mechanically. We demonstrate our approach by characterizing deadlock-prone configurations of HTTP agents, as well as establishing useful properties of an overlay protocol for scheduling MPEG frames, and of a protocol for Web intra-cache consistency.

Les derniers écueils vers la parité aux élections régionales en Belgique

La Belgique impose depuis les années 2000 la parité femmes-hommes sur les listes de candidats pour les élections aux différents niveaux de pouvoir (local, régional, fédéral et européen). Cette obligation a accru la féminisation des assemblées pour atteindre entre un quart et un tiers d’élues. Le progrès est donc réel mais la stricte parité reste éloignée. Cet article s’interroge sur les raisons de ce « plafond de verre ». Elles sont à chercher dans la réticence des partis à accorder les premières places sur les listes à des candidates, et encore plus à placer une femme en première position. Dans un scrutin proportionnel de listes semi-ouvertes, la part d’élues s’en trouve automatiquement réduite, surtout lorsque la magnitude des circonscriptions est faible. Parmi les motivations de ces réticences à la parité l’une des plus importantes est la conviction que les candidates seraient de moins bonnes « locomotives électorales » que leurs homologues masculins. Pourtant, et cet article le démontre, ces craintes ne résistent pas à l’épreuve des faits. Une analyse détaillée des résultats électoraux en Belgique montre bien que les femmes ne réalisent pas de moins bonnes performances électorales que les hommes lorsqu’elles sont placées en tête de liste.

Stereocomplexed poly(lactic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol) nanoparticles with dual-emissive boron dyes for tumor accumulation.

Responsive biomaterials play important roles in imaging, diagnostics, and therapeutics. Polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) containing hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments are one class of biomaterial utilized for these purposes. The incorporation of luminescent molecules into NPs adds optical imaging and sensing capability to these vectors. Here we report on the synthesis of dual-emissive, pegylated NPs with "stealth"-like properties, delivered intravenously (IV), for the study of tumor accumulation. The NPs were created by means of stereocomplexation using a methoxy-terminated polyethylene glycol and poly(D-lactide) (mPEG-PDLA) block copolymer combined with iodide-substituted difluoroboron dibenzoylmethane-poly(L-lactide) (BF2dbm(I)PLLA). Boron nanoparticles (BNPs) were fabricated in two different solvent compositions to study the effects on BNP size distribution. The physical and photoluminescent properties of the BNPs were studied in vitro over time to determine stability. Finally, preliminary in vivo results show that stereocomplexed BNPs injected IV are taken up by tumors, an important prerequisite to their use as hypoxia imaging agents in preclinical studies.

The miniaturization and dissemination of audiovisual media into small, mobile assemblages of cameras, screens and microphones has brought "database cinema" (Manovich) into pockets and handbags. In turn, this micro-portability of video production calls for a reconsideration of database cinema, not as an aesthetic but rather as a media ecology that makes certain experiences and forms of interaction possible. In this context the clip and the fragment become a social currency (showing, trading online, etc.), and the enjoyment of a moment or "occasion" becomes an opportunity for recording, extending, preserving and displaying. If we are now the documentarists of our lives (as so many mobile phone adverts imply), it follows that we are also our own archivists as well. From the folksonomies of Flickr and YouTube to the slick "media centres" of Sony, Apple and Microsoft, the audiovisual home archive is a prized territory of struggle among platforms and brands. The database is emerging as the dominant (screen) medium of popular creativity and distribution – but it also brings the categories of "home" and "person" closer to that of the archive.

Contribución al conocimiento de la flora briofítica de Galicia. Briófitos de la Fraga de Caaveiro (La Coruña), I. Musgos

Se dan a conocer las especies de musgos recolectadas po rel autor en la Fraga de Caaveiro. La lista consta de 134 especies. Algunas de ellas (Cyclodictyon laetevirens, Isothecium holtii, Tetraphis pellucida, Rhynchostegium alopecuroides) citadas pocas veces de España, constituyen novedad para la flora gallega.

Se analizan y describen las principales líneas de trabajo de la Web Semántica en el ámbito de los archivos de televisión. Para ello, se analiza y contextualiza la web semántica desde una perspectiva general para posteriormente analizar las principales iniciativas que trabajan con lo audiovisual: Proyecto MuNCH, Proyecto S5T, Semantic Television y VideoActive.
