Onderzoek naar het Effect van de Aanwezigheid van een Hond op het Alledaags Functioneren van een Kind met Autisme

Het Koninklijk Nederlands Geleidenhonden Fonds (KNGF) heeft een 3 daagse cursus ontwikkeld waarbij zij ouders leren hun hond in te zetten ten behoeve van het autistische kind. Om de cursus te kunnen evalueren en het effect van een door ouders getrainde huishond in kaart te kunnen brengen hebben zij ouders op 3 verschillende momenten vragenlijsten laten invullen waarbij het alledaags functioneren en autismespectrum gerelateerd probleemgedrag van het kind en stress bij ouders in kaart zijn gebracht. Deze data zijn gebruikt om te onderzoeken of de aan- of afwezigheid van de hond van invloed was op het alledaags functioneren van het kind en of er in de maanden na het volgen van de cursus verandering optrad in de genoemde uitkomstmaten. Resultaten laten zien dat het alledaags functioneren van het kind in aanwezigheid van de hond beter leek te zijn dan in vergelijkbare situaties in afwezigheid van de hond. Tevens was in de maanden na het onderzoek een vermindering te zien van autismespectrum gerelateerd probleemgedrag. Ook het alledaags functioneren leek in de tijd te verbeteren, maar dit effect leek ook weer iets af te nemen. Het maakte voor de genoemde uitkomstmaten niet uit of de respondenten bij aanvang van het onderzoek al een hond hadden of pas later een hond kregen. Stress bij ouders nam significant af voor de groep die bij aanvang van het onderzoek al een hond had.

Dopo una breve introduzione e l’inquadramento dell’autore e della sua opera, vi è una premessa alla traduzione in cui vengono descritti gli strumenti teorici utilizzati. What kind of expertise is needed for low energy construction

The construction industry is responsible for 40% of European Union (EU) end-use emissions but addressing this is problematic, as evident from the performance gap between design intention and on-site energy performance. There is a lack of the expertise needed for low energy construction (LEC) in the UK as the complex work processes involved require ‘energy literacy’ of all construction occupations, high qualification levels, broad occupational profiles, integrated teamworking, and good communication . This research identifies the obstacles to meeting these requirements, the nature of the expertise needed to break down occupational divisions and bridge those interfaces where the main heat losses occur, and the transition pathway implied. Obstacles include a decline in the level, breadth and quality of construction vocational education and training (VET), the lack of a learning infrastructure on sites, and a fragmented employment structure. To overcome these and develop enhanced understanding of LEC requires a transformation of the existing structure of VET provision and construction employment and a new curriculum based on a broader concept of agency and backed by rigorous enforcement of standards. This can be achieved through a radical transition pathway rather than market-based solutions to a low carbon future for the construction sector.

“Because It Kind of Falls in Between, Doesn’t It? Like an Acute Thing and a Chronic”: the Psychological Experience of Anaphylaxis in Adulthood

Anaphylaxis is a serious, rare condition increasing in prevalence. This study explored the psychological experience of adult-onset anaphylaxis from patient, family and staff perspectives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve participants. Two global themes emerged from thematic analysis: ‘controllability’ (‘an unknown and distressing experience’, ‘the importance of control over triggers’ and ‘responsibility but no control: the impact on others’) and ‘conflict’ (‘rejecting illness identity’, ‘minimisation of risk’, ‘accessing specialist care: running in slow motion’ and ‘patient-centred versus service-centred care’). Findings highlight the importance of perceived control and emphasise the presence of conflict in the experience of this complex, episodic condition.

Alltagsintegrierte Sprachförderung in der Spielgruppe. Welche Fachperson-Kind-Interaktionen finden statt?

Präventive Massnahmen zur frühen Förderung des Zweitspracherwerbs werden u.a. in Spielgruppen implementiert. In der diesbezüglichen Qualifizierung der Spielgruppenleitenden im Kanton Basel-Stadt spielt der Ansatz der alltagsintegrierten Förderung eine tragende Rolle. Jegliche Dialoge, Erwachsenen- wie kind-initiierte, sind hier Fördergelegenheiten. In einer Teilstudie des SNF-geförderten Forschungsprojekts „MeKi – Frühe sprachliche Förderung mehrsprachiger Kinder ab 3 Jahren“ werden die Interaktionen zwischen Spielgruppenleitenden und einzelnen Zielkindern videographiert und gesprächsanalytisch untersucht. What kind of surgery for cervical carcinoma?

The incidence and mortality of cervical cancer have changed over the past 50 years in developed countries, but this kind of tumor still remains a significant clinical problem because it is the second most common cause of morbidity and mortality from cancer among women. After histological confirmation of invasive cervical cancer, the extent of disease was determined using clinical criteria to assign a stage. This assessment is important because, while for the other gynecologic cancers clinical information obtained by surgery and histopathological examination is implemented and concurs to define the staging of the disease, the cervical cancer tumor stage is given after the primary diagnosis. In this review we discuss how the surgical approach to cervical cancer has been evolved, in order to modulate the radicality of the intervention itself and thus to preserve the pelvic innervation. This step has been achieved by deepening knowledge of functional pelvic anatomy and modulating the radicality of hysterectomy according to well defined surgical landmarks.

Wie die Hamburger Tagung zeigte, reicht das, was an empirisch abgesicherter Erkenntnis über „Kind und Musik" vorliegt, bei weitem nicht aus zur wissenschaftlichen Fundierung einer Theorie musikalischer Erziehung, die zugleich Handlungsanweisungen für den beruflichen Alltag der Pädagogen enthielte. Dies mutet 25 Jahre nach Gerhard Kubes gleichnamiger Schrift als Rückschritt an. Denn dort wird aus dem damals als gesichert betrachteten entwicklungspsychologischen Stufenmodell ein an Jahrgangsstufen fixiertes musikunterrichtliches Vorgehen dargelegt, das mit dem Anspruch wissenschaftlicher Absicherung verbunden war. Inzwischen aber ist die Stufentheorie widerlegt — ein dynamisches Modell ist an ihre Stelle getreten. Allgemein verbreitete Auffassungen musikalischer Begabung sind problematisiert worden — an zentrale Stelle des Entwicklungsprozesses rückte statt dessen der Sozialisationsbegriff, der heute wiederum in einer Interaktionstheorie aufgehoben wird. Der Anspruch auf eine geschlossene Theorie musikalischer „Bildung" wurde zurückgestellt zugunsten notwendiger und auch methodisch leistbarer Detailuntersuchungen. Schließlich mußte die intentionale Erziehung der Schule angesichts stark mediengeprägter funktionaler Erziehungsprozesse in außerschulischen Bereichen relativiert werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund erbrachte die Tagung, deren Referate hier nachzulesen sind, durchaus Nützliches: die Aufarbeitung historischer Aspekte pädagogischer Musik unseres Jahrhunderts, die kritische Darstellung musikalischer Curricula in der Früherziehung und in einem Teilbereich der Instrumentalpädagogik, musikpsychologische Theoriebildung hinsichtlich der Themen Entwicklung, Wahrnehmung und Lernen, Reflexionen zur Unterrichtsmethodik, zu Lied und Singen, zu Kindertanz, zu massenmedialer Musikangeboten, zum Versuch einer Integration ausländischer Kinder über musikalische Lernangebote, zum Gruppeneinsatz elektronischer Tasteninstrumente, zur Berücksichtigung der Popularmusik in den Curricula, sorgfältige empirische Erhebungen zu den Präferenzen für Musikinstrumente bei Jugendlichen und zur Situation der Lehrkräfte an Musikschulen. Direct Adhesive Pin-retained Restorations For Severely Worn Dentition Treatment: A 1.5-year Follow-up Report.

Excessive occlusal surface wear can result in occlusal disharmony, functional and esthetic impairment. As a therapeutic approach, conventional single crowns have been proposed, but this kind of treatment is complex, highly invasive and expensive. This case report describes the clinical outcomes of an alternative minimally invasive treatment based on direct adhesive-pin retained restorations. A 64-year-old woman with severely worn dentition, eating problems related to missing teeth and generalized tooth hypersensitivity was referred for treatment. Proper treatment planning based on the diagnostic wax-up simulation was used to guide the reconstruction of maxillary anterior teeth with direct composite resin over self-threading dentin pins. As the mandibular remaining teeth were extremely worn, a tooth-supported overdenture was installed. A stabilization splint was also used to protect the restorations. This treatment was a less expensive alternative to full-mouth rehabilitation with positive esthetic and functional outcomes after 1.5 years of follow-up.

Micronutrient And Physiologic Parameters Before And 6 Months After Rygb.

Bariatric surgery is considered an effective method for sustained weight loss, but may cause various nutritional complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status of minerals and vitamins, food consumption, and to monitor physiologic parameters in patients with obesity before and 6 months after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGB). Thirty-six patients who had undergone RYGB were prospectively evaluated before and 6 months after surgery. At each phase their weight, height, body mass index (BMI), Electro Sensor Complex (ES Complex) data, food consumption, and total protein serum levels, albumin, prealbumin, parathyroid hormone (PTH), zinc (Zn), B12 vitamin (VitB12), iron (Fe), ferritin, copper (Cu), ionic calcium (CaI), magnesium (Mg), and folic acid were assessed. The mean weight loss from baseline to 6 months after surgery was 35.34±4.82%. Markers of autonomic nervous system balance (P<.01), stiffness index (P<.01), standard deviation of normal-to-normal R-R intervals (SDNN) (P<.01), and insulin resistance (P<.001) were also improved. With regard to the micronutrients measured, 34 patients demonstrated some kind of deficiency. There was a high percentage of Zn deficiency in both pre- (55.55%) and postoperative (61.11%) patients, and 33.33% of the patients were deficient in prealbumin postoperatively. The protein intake after 6 months of surgery was below the recommended intake (<70 g/d) for 88.88% of the patients. Laboratory analyses demonstrated an average decrease in total protein (P<.05), prealbumin (P = .002), and PTH (P = .008) between pre- and postsurgery, and a decrease in the percentage of deficiencies for Mg (P<.05), CaI (P<.05), and Fe (P = .021). Despite improvements in the autonomic nervous system balance, stiffness index markers and insulin resistance, we found a high prevalence of hypozincemia at 6 months post-RYGB. Furthermore, protein supplements were needed to maintain an adequate protein intake up to 6 months postsurgery.

A Rosetta Stone For Nature's Benefits To People.

After a long incubation period, the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is now underway. Underpinning all its activities is the IPBES Conceptual Framework (CF), a simplified model of the interactions between nature and people. Drawing on the legacy of previous large-scale environmental assessments, the CF goes further in explicitly embracing different disciplines and knowledge systems (including indigenous and local knowledge) in the co-construction of assessments of the state of the world's biodiversity and the benefits it provides to humans. The CF can be thought of as a kind of Rosetta Stone that highlights commonalities between diverse value sets and seeks to facilitate crossdisciplinary and crosscultural understanding. We argue that the CF will contribute to the increasing trend towards interdisciplinarity in understanding and managing the environment. Rather than displacing disciplinary science, however, we believe that the CF will provide new contexts of discovery and policy applications for it.

Sim-xl: A Powerful And User-friendly Tool For Peptide Cross-linking Analysis.

Chemical cross-linking has emerged as a powerful approach for the structural characterization of proteins and protein complexes. However, the correct identification of covalently linked (cross-linked or XL) peptides analyzed by tandem mass spectrometry is still an open challenge. Here we present SIM-XL, a software tool that can analyze data generated through commonly used cross-linkers (e.g., BS3/DSS). Our software introduces a new paradigm for search-space reduction, which ultimately accounts for its increase in speed and sensitivity. Moreover, our search engine is the first to capitalize on reporter ions for selecting tandem mass spectra derived from cross-linked peptides. It also makes available a 2D interaction map and a spectrum-annotation tool unmatched by any of its kind. We show SIM-XL to be more sensitive and faster than a competing tool when analyzing a data set obtained from the human HSP90. The software is freely available for academic use at http://patternlabforproteomics.org/sim-xl. A video demonstrating the tool is available at http://patternlabforproteomics.org/sim-xl/video.
