Perspectives on gender, migration and transnational work: joint work of social reproduction and care in Southern Europe

This paper presents the "state of the art" and some of the main issues discussed in relation to the topic of transnational migration and reproductive work in southern Europe. We start doing a genealogy of the complex theoretical development leading to the consolidation of the research program, linking consideration of gender with transnational migration and transformation of work and ways of survival, thus making the production aspects as reproductive, in a context of globalization. The analysis of the process of multiscale reconfiguration of social reproduction and care, with particular attention to its present global dimension is presented, pointing to the turning point of this line of research that would have taken place with the beginning of this century, with the rise notions such as "global care chains" (Hochschild, 2001), or "care drain" (Ehrenreich and Hochschild, 2013). Also, the role of this new agency, now composed in many cases women who migrate to other countries or continents, precisely to address these reproductive activities, is recognized. Finally, reference is made to some of the new conceptual and theoretical developments in this area.

La incertidumbre amorosa contemporánea. Estrategias de los jóvenes

Este artículo explora las fuentes de incertidumbre en la experiencia contemporánea del amor y las estrategias que los jóvenes españoles ponen en práctica para afrontarla. Para ello, se utiliza el material empírico obtenido a través de la realización de 31 entrevistas en profundidad a adultos jóvenes entre 25 y 35 años de edad, residentes en Madrid. Su análisis ha permitido identificar una serie de estrategias que apuntan hacia la extensión de cierta “normatividad de la cautela” en la experiencia de los vínculos amorosos: a) La “disciplina emocional” para controlar la imagen que se otorga de los propios sentimientos, b) la concatenación de emparejamientos, c) la priorización del propio “yo” en las expectativas y d) la b��squeda de fórmulas alternativas al modelo de pareja monógama tradicional. Se analiza, además, cómo cada una de estas estrategias se hace plausible en función de determinados contextos y posiciones de clase y género.

A vueltas con la naturaleza del cambio fonético-fonológico: los casos de Nj y Lj

Las etapas del cambio fonético-fonológico han sido descritas desde hace décadas, especialmente desde un punto de vista articulatorio y casi siempre partiendo de los testimonios escritos de que se podía disponer. No obstante, recientemente han ido surgiendo nuevas teorías que defienden que el cambio puede ser explicado a través del estudio de la variación y los procesos fonéticos propios del habla actual, puesto que ambos están relacionados con fenómenos de hipo (e hiper) articulación y, a la postre, de coarticulación. Una de ellas es la Fonología Evolutiva (Blevins 2004), aun cuando no ofrece una explicación satisfactoria para la difusión del cambio. En este estudio, se ha recurrido a estas teorías para esclarecer las causas de la evolución de dos contextos de yod segunda: /nj/ y /lj/, que llevaron a la fonologización de // y //, en un primer estadio de la historia del español.

A comparative study : regulatory requirements on subdivisions for increasing passive cooling

A major project in the Sustainable Built Assets core area is the Sustainable Sub-divisions – Ventilation Project that is the second stage of a planned series of research projects focusing on sustainable sub-divisions. The initial project, Sustainable Sub-divisions: Energy focused on energy efficiency and examined the link between dwelling energy efficiency and sub-divisional layout. In addition, the potential for on site electricity generation, especially in medium and high-density developments, was also examined. That project recommended that an existing lot-rating methodology be adapted for use in SEQ through the inclusion of sub divisional appropriate ventilation data. Acquiring that data is the object of this project. The Sustainable Sub-divisions; Ventilation Project will produce a series of reports. The first report (Report 2002-077-B-01) summarised the results from an industry workshop and interviews that were conducted to ascertain the current attitudes and methodologies used in contemporary sub-division design in South East Queensland. The second report (Report 2002-077-B-02) described how the project is being delivered as outlined in the Project Agreement. It included the selection of the case study dwellings and monitoring equipment and data management process. This third report (Report 2002-077-B-03) provides an analysis and review of the approaches recommended by leading experts, government bodies and professional organizations throughout Australia that aim to increase the potential for passive cooling and heating at the subdivision stage. This data will inform issues discussed on the development of the enhanced lot-rating methodology in other reports of this series. The final report, due in June 2007, will detail the analysis of data for winter 2006 and summer 2007, leading to the development and delivery of the enhanced lot-rating methodology.

The role of secondary values in the selection process in organising

This study develops a model (i.e., secondary values selection process - 2VS) to describe how values shared by individuals (i.e., secondary values) contribute to the creation of meaning and interpretation in organisations. Elements of the model are identified through exploration of two bodies of literature (a) cultural approaches to organisational studies, and (b) theories of evolution. Incorporated within the model are observable elements that support analysis and evaluation of the 2VS. Outcomes of the study are (a) development of a more complete understanding of the Selection Process in organising and (b) creation of a mechanism for cultural analysis of organisational settings.
