The phase diagram of the dodecyl dimethyl ammonium hydroxyl propyl sulfonate(DDAHPS)/1-pentanol(C5H11OH)/water ternary system has been established. It contains two isotropic monophase regions (L-1 and L-2) and a liquid crystalline region (L.C.). The isotropic phase regions have been investigated by means of Raman spectroscopy and conductivity.

El presente estudio se realizó con el objetivo de determinar la prevalencia del tórsalo (Dermatobia hominis) en fincas de las diferentes comarcas ubicadas en el Municipio de San Pedro de Lóvago, departamento de Chontales. El municipio se localiza entre las coordenadas 12º 07 ́ latitud norte y 85º07 ́ latitud oeste. La altitud promedio es de 340msnm. El clima es semi húmedo conocido como de sabana tropical. La temperatura promedio anual oscila entre los 25 y 26ºC; su precipitación pluvial varía entre los 1 200 y 1 400mm, caracterizándose por una buena distribución de las lluvias durante todo el año. En el trabajo de muestreo se utilizó un estudio observacional de tipo transversal, utilizándose un muestreo sin reemplazo. Para determinar el tamaño de la muestra se utilizó la formula de Martin et al. (1987) y Trusfield, (1995) donde plantean que N = 1,962* p *q / L 2,donde p es la prevalencia, q = 1 – p y L especifica el límite deseado de error de la prevalencia. Se espera que la prevalencia (p) de 50% sea usada en combinación con él límite deseado de error de 14%, si la prevalencia en la población entera es desconocida. Y cuando la población de bovinos está comprendida entre los rangos de 2 807 a 7 480 individuos de la población. El tamaño requerido de la muestra de este trabajo fue de 52 fincas en producción de toda la zona en estudio. Los resultados obtenidos en el municipio de San Pedro de Lóvago en relación a la Prevalencia de tórsalo en bovinos, de un total de 52 fincas estudiadas, de los cuales se examinaron un total 1 317 animales, de los cuales 1 068 resultaron positivos representando el 81% de prevalencia y 249 animales negativos para un 19%. Al realizar el análisis estadístico se encontró diferencia significativa (p <0.05) entre las regiones anatómicas, siendo las regiones Laterales Toráxico-abdominal derecha, la más afectada. Al relacionar la intensidad de invasión del tórsalo de acuerdo al color de la piel, se observó que existe mayor presentación del mismo en los animales de color Negro, seguido del color Osca, Blanco y color Pardo.

Rarefied gas flows through micro-channels are simulated using particle approaches, named as the information preservation (IP) method and the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. In simulating the low speed flows in long micro-channels the DSMC method encounters the problem of large sample size demand and the difficulty of regulating boundary conditions at the inlet and outlet. Some important computational issues in the calculation of long micro-channel flows by using the IP method, such as the use the conservative form of the mass conservation equation to guarantee the adjustment of the inlet and outlet boundary conditions and the super-relaxation scheme to accelerate the convergence process, are addressed. Stream-wise pressure distributions and mass fluxes through micro-channels given by the IP method agree well with experimental data measured in long micro-channels by Pong et al. (with a height to length ratio of 1.2:3000), Shih et al. (l.2:4800), Arkilic et al. and Arkilic (l.3:7500), respectively. The famous Knudsen minimum of normalized mass flux is observed in IP and DSMC calculations of a short micro-channel over the entire flow regime from continuum to free molecular, whereas the slip Navier-Stokes solution fails to predict it.

This paper presents the electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics in plasma and the attenuation coefficients of the microwave in terms of the parameters n(e), v, w, L, w(b). The phi800 mm high temperature shock tube has been used to produce a uniform plasma. In order to get the attenuation of the electromagnetic wave through the plasma behind a shock wave, the microwave transmission has been used to measure the relative change of the wave power. The working frequency is f = (2 similar to 35) GHz (w = 2pif, wave length lambda = 15 cm similar to 8 mm). The electron density in the plasma is n(e) = (3 x 10(10) similar to 1 x 10(14)) cm(-3). The collision frequency v = (1 x 10(8) similar to 6 x 10(10)) Hz. The thickness of the plasma layer L = (2 similar to 80) cm. The electron circular frequency w(b) = eB(0)/m(e), magnetic flux density B-0 = (0 similar to 0.84) T. The experimental results show that when the plasma layer is thick (such as L/lambda greater than or equal to 10), the correlation between the attenuation coefficients of the electromagnetic waves and the parameters n(e), v, w, L determined from the measurements are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of electromagnetic wave propagations in the uniform infinite plasma. When the plasma layer is thin (such as when both L and lambda are of the same order), the theoretical results are only in a qualitative agreement with the experimental observations in the present parameter range, but the formula of the electromagnetic wave propagation theory in an uniform infinite plasma can not be used for quantitative computations of the correlation between the attenuation coefficients and the parameters n(e), v, w, L. In fact, if w < w(p), v(2) much less than w(2), the power attenuations K of the electromagnetic waves obtained from the measurements in the thin-layer plasma are much smaller than those of the theoretical predictions. On the other hand, if w > w(p), v(2) much less than w(2) (just v approximate to f), the measurements are much larger than the theoretical results. Also, we have measured the electromagnetic wave power attenuation value under the magnetic field and without a magnetic field. The result indicates that the value measured under the magnetic field shows a distinct improvement.

本文建议了一种简单的介质模型,用于计算球对称应力脉冲波的传播。证明了自相似波形和峰值以恒速传播是波传播渐近性态的表现。在渐近状态,运动方程和介质性质的线性部份,是波传播行为的主要控制因素。根据相似解,分析了压密和介质强度对应力波传播规律的影响。指出了在有剪力而剪力与静水压在运动中不耦合的条件下,衰减指数l=2。在一般情况下,衰减快慢随波形陡缓而变化。对一定的介质存在一个最大的衰减指数此时波前沿是间断跳跃。当应力波峰值的传播速度c_0超过加载体积波速C时,该最大衰减指数l_(max)就可大于2,否则就等于或小于2。

加卸载响应比(LURR)理论是~种前景很好的中期地震预测方法,通常在强烈地震发生前的数月至l~2年I.URR出现高值,因而I。URR可以作为强烈天然地震的前兆,用此方法曾经成功地预测过Northridge地震(1 994年1月17日,M6.7,美国加州),Nanto地震(1 996年9月11日,M6.6,日本)及不少发生在中国的天然地震。用房山煤矿1 992年8月至1993年7月的微震资料,计算了全年内7组M>2.1矿震前的加卸载响应比γ值,其中5组矿震前γ值均明显大于l(γ≥2 9)。以上结果表明,加卸载响应比理论有可能用于矿震的预测。

In this thesis we consider smooth analogues of operators studied in connection with the pointwise convergence of the solution, u(x,t), (x,t) ∈ ℝ^n x ℝ, of the free Schrodinger equation to the given initial data. Such operators are interesting examples of oscillatory integral operators with degenerate phase functions, and we develop strategies to capture the oscillations and obtain sharp L^2 → L^2 bounds. We then consider, for fixed smooth t(x), the restriction of u to the surface (x,t(x)). We find that u(x,t(x)) ∈ L^2(D^n) when the initial data is in a suitable L^2-Sobolev space H^8 (ℝ^n), where s depends on conditions on t.

The theories of relativity and quantum mechanics, the two most important physics discoveries of the 20th century, not only revolutionized our understanding of the nature of space-time and the way matter exists and interacts, but also became the building blocks of what we currently know as modern physics. My thesis studies both subjects in great depths --- this intersection takes place in gravitational-wave physics.

Gravitational waves are "ripples of space-time", long predicted by general relativity. Although indirect evidence of gravitational waves has been discovered from observations of binary pulsars, direct detection of these waves is still actively being pursued. An international array of laser interferometer gravitational-wave detectors has been constructed in the past decade, and a first generation of these detectors has taken several years of data without a discovery. At this moment, these detectors are being upgraded into second-generation configurations, which will have ten times better sensitivity. Kilogram-scale test masses of these detectors, highly isolated from the environment, are probed continuously by photons. The sensitivity of such a quantum measurement can often be limited by the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, and during such a measurement, the test masses can be viewed as evolving through a sequence of nearly pure quantum states.

The first part of this thesis (Chapter 2) concerns how to minimize the adverse effect of thermal fluctuations on the sensitivity of advanced gravitational detectors, thereby making them closer to being quantum-limited. My colleagues and I present a detailed analysis of coating thermal noise in advanced gravitational-wave detectors, which is the dominant noise source of Advanced LIGO in the middle of the detection frequency band. We identified the two elastic loss angles, clarified the different components of the coating Brownian noise, and obtained their cross spectral densities.

The second part of this thesis (Chapters 3-7) concerns formulating experimental concepts and analyzing experimental results that demonstrate the quantum mechanical behavior of macroscopic objects - as well as developing theoretical tools for analyzing quantum measurement processes. In Chapter 3, we study the open quantum dynamics of optomechanical experiments in which a single photon strongly influences the quantum state of a mechanical object. We also explain how to engineer the mechanical oscillator's quantum state by modifying the single photon's wave function.

In Chapters 4-5, we build theoretical tools for analyzing the so-called "non-Markovian" quantum measurement processes. Chapter 4 establishes a mathematical formalism that describes the evolution of a quantum system (the plant), which is coupled to a non-Markovian bath (i.e., one with a memory) while at the same time being under continuous quantum measurement (by the probe field). This aims at providing a general framework for analyzing a large class of non-Markovian measurement processes. Chapter 5 develops a way of characterizing the non-Markovianity of a bath (i.e.,whether and to what extent the bath remembers information about the plant) by perturbing the plant and watching for changes in the its subsequent evolution. Chapter 6 re-analyzes a recent measurement of a mechanical oscillator's zero-point fluctuations, revealing nontrivial correlation between the measurement device's sensing noise and the quantum rack-action noise.

Chapter 7 describes a model in which gravity is classical and matter motions are quantized, elaborating how the quantum motions of matter are affected by the fact that gravity is classical. It offers an experimentally plausible way to test this model (hence the nature of gravity) by measuring the center-of-mass motion of a macroscopic object.

The most promising gravitational waves for direct detection are those emitted from highly energetic astrophysical processes, sometimes involving black holes - a type of object predicted by general relativity whose properties depend highly on the strong-field regime of the theory. Although black holes have been inferred to exist at centers of galaxies and in certain so-called X-ray binary objects, detecting gravitational waves emitted by systems containing black holes will offer a much more direct way of observing black holes, providing unprecedented details of space-time geometry in the black-holes' strong-field region.

The third part of this thesis (Chapters 8-11) studies black-hole physics in connection with gravitational-wave detection.

Chapter 8 applies black hole perturbation theory to model the dynamics of a light compact object orbiting around a massive central Schwarzschild black hole. In this chapter, we present a Hamiltonian formalism in which the low-mass object and the metric perturbations of the background spacetime are jointly evolved. Chapter 9 uses WKB techniques to analyze oscillation modes (quasi-normal modes or QNMs) of spinning black holes. We obtain analytical approximations to the spectrum of the weakly-damped QNMs, with relative error O(1/L^2), and connect these frequencies to geometrical features of spherical photon orbits in Kerr spacetime. Chapter 11 focuses mainly on near-extremal Kerr black holes, we discuss a bifurcation in their QNM spectra for certain ranges of (l,m) (the angular quantum numbers) as a/M → 1. With tools prepared in Chapter 9 and 10, in Chapter 11 we obtain an analytical approximate for the scalar Green function in Kerr spacetime.

A new chelating ligand, 2-(2-(5-tert-butylisoxazol-3-yl)hydrazono)-N-(2,4-dimethylphenyl)-3-oxobutanamide (HL), and its four binuclear transition metal complexes, M-2(L)(2) (mu-OCH3)(2) [M = Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II)], were synthesized using the procedure of diazotization, coupling and metallization. Their structures were postulated based on elemental analysis, H-1 NMR, MALDI-MS, FT-IR spectra and UV-vis electronic absorption spectra. Smooth films of these complexes on K9 glass substrates were prepared using the spin-coating method and their absorption properties were evaluated. O objeto de estudo foi o estresse no trabalho e os níveis de cortisol salivar. O objetivo geral foi avaliar a associação entre estresse no trabalho e variações de cortisol salivar de trabalhadores de Enfermagem inseridos na assistência hospitalar no Rio de Janeiro. A hipótese do estudo foi que existe associação entre trabalhadores expostos à alta exigência no trabalho e as variações de cortisol salivar. Trata-se de estudo epidemiológico observacional analítico seccional, realizado em hospital estadual localizado no Rio de Janeiro com amostra de 103 trabalhadores. Para avaliação dos aspectos psicossociais do trabalho, utilizou-se o questionário Job Content Questionnaire. O cortisol salivar foi medido através da coleta de 04 amostras de cada participante em um dia do plantão: ao acordar, 30 minutos depois, às 12h e 18 h. A coleta de dados foi realizada entre março e abril de 2012. Utilizou-se o programa SPSS 18.0 para análise dos dados. As dimensões demanda psicológica e controle e a subtração foram utilizadas sob a forma contínua nas análises de correlação com as covariáveis e desfecho. Os níveis de cortisol foram quantificados por meio de cinco índices: o cálculo da área sob a curva em relação ao zero ou base (AUCg), área sob a curva em relação ao aumento (AUCi), o aumento médio (MnInc), a excreção do cortisol no período pós acordar (AUCtrab) e a área sob a curva em relação ao zero ou base do ciclo diurno (AUCCD). Para avaliar a associação entre as covariáveis e exposição e desfecho utilizou-se os testes de Mann Whitney e Kruskall-Wallis. As covariáveis associadas à exposição ou ao desfecho com nível de significância de 20% (p≤0,20) foram testadas no modelo de regressão linear. Realizada análise de correlação utilizando-se o coeficiente de correlação de Spearmans. Como resultado encontrou-se que os trabalhadores de Enfermagem obtiveram médias para demanda psicológica e controle que tendem para o limite superior, bem como para a subtração, caracterizando alta demanda e alto controle, ou seja, trabalho ativo. O valor médio de cortisol observado ao acordar, 30 minutos após, 12h e 18h foi de 5,82 nmol/L) (4,86), 16,60 nmol/L ( 8,31), 7,49 nmol/L ( 6,97) e 3,93 nmol/L ( 3,15), respectivamente. O aumento do cortisol entre o acordar e 30 minutos após foi em média de 64%. Já para os índices de cortisol adotados observa-se o valor médio da MnInc, AUCg, AUCi, AUCtrab e AUCCD foi de 10,78 nmol/L (6,99), 5,61 nmol/L ( 2,92) 2,69 nmol/L ( 1,75), 32,51 nmol/L ( 21,99) e 107,99 nmol/L ( 61,63), respectivamente. Este estudo demonstrou que os níveis de cortisol salivar livre não estão associados à alta exigência no trabalho, mesmo quando ajustadas pelas possíveis variáveis de confusão ou modificadoras de efeito. A hipótese do estudo não foi confirmada. Os dados obtidos neste estudo revelaram aspectos importantes dos riscos psicossociais a que estão expostos os trabalhadores de Enfermagem durante o processo de trabalho, oferecendo subsídios para que sejam implementados programas de orientação e promoção à saúde do trabalhador e fornecem um contributo para entender os caminhos biológicos pelos quais o estresse no trabalho influencia a saúde.

O Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) é um dos principais detectores instalados no LHC que possibilita o estudo de diferentes aspectos da Física, indo do Modelo Padrão à matéria escura. Esse detector de propósito geral, foi construído para ser capaz de medir múons com uma grande precisão e todos os seus subdetectores foram construídos com uma alta granularidade, tornando possível identificar e caracterizar as propriedades cinemáticas das partículas finais da colisão. O algoritmo de reconstrução de eventos inclui a identificação de jatos, ou seja, é possível identificar a assinatura da produção de pártons na colisão e a medida de seções de choque da produção de muitos jatos é um dos métodos para se explorar as contribuições da Cromodinâmica Quântica (Quantum Chromodynamics - QCD) perturbativa, permitindo avaliar as previsões implementadas nas simulações de eventos. Tendo em vista a caracterização de processos relacionados com a QCD em colisões de próton-próton a uma energia do centro de massa de 7 TeV, é apresentada a medida da seção de choque da produção inclusiva de multijatos no CMS. Para realizar essa medida foram utilizados dados reais coletados em 2010, onde não se apresentava muitas colisões por cruzamento de pacote, com uma luminosidade integrada de L = 2,869 pb-1 e utilizando jatos que estão em quase todo o espaço de fase acessível em pseudorapidez |n|≤ 4,8 e momentum transverso pT ≥ 30 GeV/ c2. Desse resultado foram removidos os efeitos de detecção comparado com predições simuladas.

Between May and October 1990, fecundity, egg size and condition factor of Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus (Lacépède) in the Cross River, Nigeria, were studied. The fecundity (F) of this population varied from 3 046 eggs (total length, L=28.5 cm) to 28 086 eggs (L=64 cm). A mean relative fecundity of 231 eggs/cm or 13 eggs/g of fish was obtained for this population. The fecundity of this population can be estimated with the formula F=2.511 · L 2.30 or F=52.893 · W 0.78 , total length being in cm and weight (W) in g. The mean egg diameter of this population varied from 0.65 mm to 3.54 mm. Condition factor (CF) of the population varied from 0.24 to 1.34 with 0.977 as the mean; 52.8% had CF higher than the mean and 47% had CF above unity. Smaller fish in this population were in better condition than bigger ones. The egg size and condition factor obtained in this study are evidence that the Cross River population of C. nigrodigitatus can provide excellent broodstock.

本论文对榧属(TorreyI)的研究历史作了回顾.以形态性状为依据,结合叶片的解剖,花粉表面的电镜观察,以及种子蛋白的电泳等,对榧属的系统分类进行了研究。结果表明: l、支持根据种子胚乳深皱与微皱分榧属为两个组的观点. 2、从叶片气孔带乳突的特征及种子蛋白电泳带的类型,似可支持榧属两组的建立. 3、根据各种榧树叶肉组织中石细胞的观察,不支持将石细胞的有无作为分组的特征。 4、云南榧与巴山榧叶的解剖特征有较多相似性,但在石细胞的含量、栅栏组织细胞层数及结晶大小等方面存在差别.考虑到其他性状及地理分布,认为将云南榧改为巴山榧的变种较为自然。 5、本属植物花粉形态较为一致,种问无明显的差别.对组和种的划分无重要参考价值. 6、经研究订正,榧属共6种2变种和11个栽培变种。其中1新变种(九龙山榧),1改级新组合(云南榧),6个新载培变种。 7、结合前人的研究,作者归纳出红豆杉科植物的进化趋势,支持榧属为进化类群的观点。
