El presente estudio de caso analiza y compara la manera en que los editoriales El Tiempo y El Colombiano reflejaron la personalización de la figura presidencial durante el primer gobierno de Álvaro Uribe (2002-2004). El fenómeno de la personalización en política ha motivado a diferentes estudios y análisis, observándose la personalización como un fenómeno de largo alcance y de gran repercusión. En este sentido la personalización de la figura presidencial de Álvaro Uribe Vélez, es un factor predominante en el periodo 2002- 2004, enmarcado bajo la gobernabilidad mediática; evidenciado en la manera como las editoriales El Tiempo y El Colombiano mostraban al hombre que gobernaba a Colombia, provocando una centralización de la figura presidencial y no de la gestión de gobierno logrando encubrir los episodios de corrupción y clientelismo. Evidenciándose un traspaso de la política de ideas a una política de personas.

En el proyecto de innovación docente cada uno de los participantes aportó su visión conceptual de los problemas y sus resoluciones en equipos formados por estudiantes de disciplinas humanísticas y técnicas, con perspectivas diferentes de la realidad, y por lo tanto, también del planteamiento de la estrategia para la resolución y del desarrollo y la eficacia de la solución. En definitiva, se les ha preparado para la adquisición de los conocimientos, habilidades, destrezas y actitudes básicas necesarias para desenvolverse sin problemas en el actual modelo laboral europeo, siendo el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior el escenario en el cual se ha desarrollado el proyecto de innovación

"Exhibiting is or should be to work against ignorance, especially against the most refractory of all ignorance: the pre-conceived idea of stereo typed culture. To exhibit is to take a calculated risk of disorientation - in the etymological sense : ( to lose your bearings), disturbs the harmony, the evident , and the consensus, that constitutes the common place ( the banal). Needless to say however it is obvious that an exhibition that deliberately tries to scandalise will create an inverted perversion which results in an obscurantist pseudo-luxury - culture ... between demagogy and provocation, one has to find visual communication's subtle itinerary. Even though an intermediary route is not so stimulating : as Gaston Bachelard said "All the roads lead to Rome, except the roads of compromise."

Esta dissertação aborda questões relativas aos conceitos de narrativa e de narrativa processual no contexto da experiência lúdica em espaços de configuração. Para este efeito, sugere-se um sistema, a caixa de sonos, que visa a implementação prática de uma narrativa visual processual enquanto terreno de experiência lúdica em meios tecnológicos. Este sistema procura tirar partido de diferentes media para proporcionar, de forma acessível, novos palcos e rituais performativos, através de narrativas visuais processuais customizáveis e partilháveis. Em concreto, a caixa de sonos, propõe um sistema jogável que possibilita, através da monitorização do comportamento do jogador ao longo da noite, compor interactivamente um retrato simbólico da noite do mesmo. O processo de composição é partilhado a partir de uma projecção direccionada para o tecto por cima da cama do jogador, quando este se encontra acordado; sendo possível que a interacção ocorra de forma activa ou passiva, dependendo do estado de vigia do jogador. Todas as experiências simbólicas, bem como a totalidade das linguagens gráficas (base de dados das composições processuais), são personalizáveis e passíveis de serem partilhadas através de uma plataforma comunitária na rede digital.

As well as the traditional functions of collecting, conserving and exhibiting objects. museums have tried to become a means of communication, open and aware of the worries of modern society. In order to do this , it has started to utilise modern technology now available and lead by the hand of "marketing" and modern business management.

The interactions among the multiple factors regulating predator-prey relationships make predation a more complex process than previously thought. The degree to which substandard individuals are captured disproportionately seems to be better a function of the difficulty of prey capture than of the hunting techniques (coursing vs. ambushing predators). That is, when the capture and killing of a prey species is easy, substandard individuals will be predated in proportion to their occurrence in the prey population. In the present study, we made use of eagle owls Bubo bubo and their main prey, the rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus: (a) the brightness of the white tails of rabbits seems to be correlated with the physical condition of individuals, (b) by using the tails of predated rabbits as an index of individual condition, we found that eagle owls seem to prefer substandard individuals (characterized by duller tails), and (c) by using information from continuous radiotracking of 14 individuals, we suggest that the difficulty of rabbit capture could be low. Although the relative benefits of preying on substandard individuals should considerably decrease when a predator is attacking an easy prey, we hypothesise that the eagle owl preference for substandard individuals could be due to the easy detection of poor individuals by a visual cue, the brightness of the rabbit tail. Several elements allow us to believe that this form of visual communication between a prey and one of its main predators could be more widespread than previously thought. In fact: (a) visual signalling plays a relevant role in intraspecific communication in eagle owls and, consequently, visual signals could also play a role in interspecific interactions, and (b) empirical studies showed that signals may inform the predator that it has been perceived, or that the prey is in a sufficiently healthy state to elude the predator.

This article is an analysis and reflection on the role of lists and diagrams in Start where you are, a multimedia improvisational piece performed as part of square zero independent dance festival: the second edition/la deuxième édition. This interdisciplinary festival was organised by collective (gulp) dance projects and took place in Ottawa, Canada, in August 2005. Start where you are was the result of a collaboration between the authors: two dance artists (Andrew and MacKinnon, the principals of (gulp)) and a visual communication designer (Gillieson). A sound artist and a lighting technician also participated in the work. This is a post-performance retrospective meant to analyze more closely the experience that meshed the evidentiary weight of words and graphics with the ephemerality and subjectivity of movement-based live performance. It contextualizes some of the work of collective (gulp) within a larger tradition of improvisation in modern dance. It also looks at how choice-making processes are central to improvisation, how they relate to Start, and how linguistic material can intersect with and support improvisational performance. Lastly, it examines some characteristics of lists and diagrams, unique forms of visual language that are potentially rich sources of material for improvisation.

This paper presents a new framework for generating triangular meshes from textured color images. The proposed framework combines a texture classification technique, called W-operator, with Imesh, a method originally conceived to generate simplicial meshes from gray scale images. An extension of W-operators to handle textured color images is proposed, which employs a combination of RGB and HSV channels and Sequential Floating Forward Search guided by mean conditional entropy criterion to extract features from the training data. The W-operator is built into the local error estimation used by Imesh to choose the mesh vertices. Furthermore, the W-operator also enables to assign a label to the triangles during the mesh construction, thus allowing to obtain a segmented mesh at the end of the process. The presented results show that the combination of W-operators with Imesh gives rise to a texture classification-based triangle mesh generation framework that outperforms pixel based methods. As the portable entertainment and mobility technologies migrate into the car, driver distraction has become recognized as a major factor in road crashes around the world. To help alert drivers to their distraction, active safety technologies such as lane departure warning systems and collision avoidance systems are being implemented. One issue with the implementation of yet another technology into the vehicle is how to cut through the competing demands of the mobile phone, navigation systems and other technologies. Haptic alerts present just such a method that may enable the system to short-circuit the normal auditory or visual communication channels. This paper presents a low cost haptic steering wheel controller that has been designed developed and tested and may be used as a communication device by a lane departure, collision avoidance, or other type of safety system.
