Neste estudo, avaliamos a dinâmica da maturação ovariana a desova durante o ciclo reprodutivo de Metynnis maculatus. Fêmeas adultas (n = 36) foram coletadas bimestralmente entre abril de 2010 e março de 2011. O índice gonadossomático (IGS) foi calculado e amostras de ovário e de sangue foram submetidas à avaliação morfométrica e das concentrações plasmáticas dos esteroides por ELISA, respectivamente. A espécie apresenta desenvolvimento ovariano assincrônico, com múltiplas desovas. Neste estudo revelamos que mesmo sendo de desova parcelada, os ovários do M. maculatus mostraram um padrão de desenvolvimento com predomínio de atividade vitelogênica entre abril a agosto e intensificação da desova em setembro. Em outubro houve uma diminuição nos valores médios de IGS, bem como registramos as maiores frequências de folículos pós-ovulatórios (FPOs). Observamos uma correlação positiva entre a frequência de FPOs e a concentração plasmática de 17 α-OHP. O M. maculatus tem potencial para ser usado como fonte para uso de hipófise para preparo de extrato bruto para indução hormonal, sendo o período teórico para coleta de hipófises de setembro a outubro, mas estudos específicos para esta finalidade ainda precisam ser desenvolvidos.

The objective of this work was to characterize the resistance of 50 cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) genotypes to Callosobruchus maculatus. A completely randomized design with five replicates per treatment (genotype) was used. No-choice tests were performed using the 50 cowpea genotypes to evaluate the preference for oviposition and the development of the weevil. The genotypes IT85 F-2687, MN05-841 B-49, MNC99-508-1, MNC99-510-8, TVu 1593, Canapuzinho-1-2, and Sanzi Sambili show non-preference-type resistance (oviposition and feeding). IT81 D-1045 Ereto and IT81 D-1045 Enramador exhibit antibiosis against C. maculatus and descend from resistant genitors, which grants them potential to be used in future crossings to obtain cowpea varieties with higher levels of resistance.

A number of 170 individuals of the species Pimelodus maculatus, a Neotropical fish known as mandi was collected in three distinct locations of the Piracicaba river (Piracicaba, Santa Maria da Serra and Americana – SP0 from April 2009 to February 2010. A common species of catfish whose individuals exist in many neotropical basins was observed to get more information about a possible influence of the water conditions in distant parts of a same river to its condition and also to verify whether the stomach contents of fish collected in these distinct places may distinguish as a possible consequence of food availability. The species were studied by collecting biological data such as standard length (SL) in cm, their total weights (TW ) in grams and sexes to see the composition of fish present in the samples. Length-weight relationships are important means to investigate facts related to the condition of the species in these systems. The analysis was made by using covariance to observe if individuals of similar lengths collected in distinct places may be compared to this purpose. Usual methods to investigate relationships of stomach food contents were applied. By analyzing the condition factor, one may conclude that the mandis collected in the region of Santa Maria da Serra presented similar characteristics to those obtained in Piracicaba, but they differ in this aspect for individuals collected in Americana. This fact is not conclusive about the reasons of this situation, but it may be a first step to other studies in order to get more information about. The degree of stomach repletion may be a first approach to this possible explanation, as individuals of Piracicaba presented usually full stomachs and differed in this way to individuals collected in the two other places

A importância dos predadores vertebrados na dinâmica das redes tróficas e na teoria da cascata trófica destaca o papel dos peixes, na determinação da composição e na dinâmica da comunidade planctônica. O estudo teve como objetivo verificar experimentalmente o possível impacto que as relações tróficas dos peixes Serrapinus notomelas e Serrasalmus maculatus podem produzir sobre o fitoplâncton e o zooplâncton presentes em lagoas marginais no trecho de montante do reservatório de Rosana, SP/PR. Um experimento utilizando-se de mesocosmos, com quatro tratamentos (controle; S. notomelas; S. maculatus; S. notomelas e S. maculatus) e três repetições, foi conduzido “in situ” no reservatório de Rosana. Analisando a dieta dos peixes, e a variação do zooplâncton e da clorofila a (biomassa de fitoplâncton) durante o período do estudo, pode-se constatar como a presença desses peixes, tanto separadamente quanto juntos, afeta a dinâmica do sistema. A análise do zooplâncton, ao final dos tratamentos com peixes, mostrou que havia uma quantidade menor de indivíduos comparado ao controle, indicando que houve de fato predação. Em relação à variação de clorofila a, notamos que houve um aumento em todos os tratamentos, o que seria esperado se o zooplâncton estivesse diminuído (cascata trófica – efeito “top-down”). Porém, no tratamento em que S. notomelas estava presente, essa clorofila a deveria (mas não ocorreu) ter decrescido, já que foi encontrada uma grande quantidade de algas na análise do conteúdo estomacal dessa espécie. No tratamento em que as duas espécies de peixes estavam presentes pode-se inferir que, ao sofrer uma pressão de predação, S. notomelas prefere desenvolver uma estratégia de fuga a uma de busca por alimento. Na literatura da área de Ensino de Física encontramos diversos argumentos em defesa da inclusão, nos currículos escolares do Ensino Médio, de conteúdos de Física Moderna e Contemporânea. A Teoria da Relatividade Especial e Geral (ao lado da Mecânica Quântica) é um dos pilares da Física Moderna. Consideramos significativo e oportuno obter um panorama da produção acadêmica sobre o ensino e aprendizagem deste tópico. Nosso objetivo é sintetizar os avanços, as convergências e sinalizar perspectivas, com o intuito de contribuir para um avanço e defesa dos trabalhos futuros. Assim, procuramos resposta para a questão: Quais as contribuições da pesquisa em Ensino de Física para que a Teoria da Relatividade Especial e Geral (TREG) possa ser abordada no Ensino Médio?

The species Pimelodus maculatus is one of the most abundant fish in many artificial reservoirs. Shows feeding plasticity and exploits all trophic levels in aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to analyze and compare aspects of the diet of P. maculatus in two important tributaries (Taquari and Veados rivers) in the upper Paranapanema River system, and also investigate possible differences in the condition factor using its feeding habit as reference. Samplings were carried out every three months during 2011 and 2012 in two tributaries of Jurumirim's dam. After biometric analysis, fish were dissected to remove the stomachs that were fixed in formaldehyde 10% and conserved in alcohol 70%. The stomach content was analyzed under stereomicroscope and the food items were identified until the least possible taxonomic level. The diet was characterized based on the Alimentary Index (IAi). Feeding strategy and aspects of species autoecology were evaluated by the relation between abundance of prey-specific (Pi) and occurrence frequency (Fo) of the prey, and also was calculated the niche width of Levin (B). The condition factor was also established and values obtained in samples of both rivers were compared, correlating them with diet of the species

This research deals with the discussion about Physics teachers’ undergraduate education and professional performance related to the knowledge acquired during this initial education. More specifically, we try to answer questions like: How do future teachers evaluate the knowledge acquired during their initial education as in terms of specific knowledge as pedagogical knowledge? What are their formative needs and future expectatives about professional performance and the school teaching environment? Data was constituted from a sample of 26 future high school physics teachers, one semester long, that were taking the supervised curricular training in a undergraduate Physics education program (called Licenciatura in Brazil), in São Paulo State public university. Besides the final report of this training, future teachers were asked to answer a questionnaire aiming to take their conceptions about their initial education program, their formative needs, future professional expectatives and high school teaching environment. According to the future teachers, the program they were about to finish was satisfactory in terms of Physics specific contents; however, about the pedagogical content knowledge and the pedagogical practice, they showed to be unsatisfied and insecure. The majority of the questionnaire responses demonstrated that they feel lack of teaching experience. Moreover, teachers emphasize other factors related to the future professional performance: possible difficulties to deal with students’ indiscipline, schools’ bad physical structure, limited number of Physics classes in high school level, lack of didactical laboratories and also they seem to be frightened that the expertise teachers do not be collaborative with the new ones. In this sense, the research outcomes shows the necessity of discussions about questions involving teachers knowledge, related to either, the Physics conceptual domain and the pedagogical one, since it matters directly to future teachers professional performance. Discussions in this sense can also help evaluation and restructuration of programs designed to initial and continuous teachers’ education.
