White luminescence in Dy3+ doped BiOCl phosphors and their Judd-Ofelt analysis

White-light emitting Dy3+ doped layered BiOCl phosphors were synthesized by the solid state route and their structure was confirmed by the Rietveld refinement method. On substitution of Dy3+ ion to Bi3+-site in BiOCl, the photoluminescence spectra exhibit blue (F-4(9/2) -> H-6(15/2)), yellow (F-4(9/2) -> H-6(13/2)) and red (F-4(9/2) -> H-6(11/2)) emissions which function together to generate white light. It was found that the emission intensity increases up to 9 mol% of Dy3+ and then quenched due to dipole-dipole interaction. Judd-Ofelt theory and radiative properties suggest that the present phosphors have a long lifetime, high quantum efficiency, excellent color purity and better stimulated emission cross-section compared to reported Dy3+ doped compounds. The obtained color chromaticity results are close to the National Television System Committee standard and clearly establish the bright prospects of these phosphors in white luminescence. Influence of the upwelling events on the delta C-13 and delta O-18 of the benthic bivalve shells of the South Western Continental Margin of India

In this study, the influence of the spatial and temporal variability of upwelling intensity and the associated biological productivity observed during different phases of summer monsoon along the southwestern continental margin of India (SWCMI) on the delta C-13 and delta O-18 of the inorganic biogenic carbonate shells was investigated. Multispecies benthic bivalve shells (1-5 mm) separated from ten surface sediment samples of SWCMI (off 12 degrees N, 10 degrees N and 9 degrees N) collected during the onset (OSM) and peak (PSM) phase of the summer monsoon of 2009 were analysed for delta C-13 and delta O-18. Sea surface temperature along the study region indicates prominent upwelling in PSM than in OSM. A comparison of analytical and predicted values for delta O-18 in the bivalve shells confirmed their in situ origin during both the sampling periods. During PSM, the delta C-13 values in the benthic bivalve shells were more depleted in C-13 than during OSM which recorded lower values of delta C-13 in dissolved inorganic carbon of bottom waters expected in the study region in PSM due to the upwelled waters, high surface productivity and the associated high degradation of the organic matter in the subsurface and bottom waters. However, this depletion of delta C-13 was not observed in benthic bivalve shells obtained from 10 degrees N, since it is influenced by high export fluxes of carbon from the Cochin estuary since early monsoon months.

Evaluación de dosis de fertilizante mineral NPK y densidades de siembra para incrementar la producción de semilla en el cultivo del tomate (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill) cv. TY-13 bajo condiciones de riego en el valle de Sébaco, Matagalpa 2003-2004

Se evaluaron cinco dosis de fertilizantes y tres densidades de siembra para producir semilla de tomate, en vista de suprimir mayor volumen de alimento y obtener semilla de calidad. El ensayo se estableció en el Valle de Sébaco, periodo comprendido de noviembre 2003 a marzo 2004, el Valle se situa en una planicie con precipitaciones anuales de 800 mm y temperaturas entre 22°C y 35°C, los suelos son arcillosos, drenados con un contenido alto de M.O. el diseño utilizado fue un (B.C.A) evaluando variables de crecimiento, rendimiento agronómico y de la semilla calidad I, la germinación de la semilla producida y se realizo un análisis económico para determinar la rentabilidad de los tratamientos. Los resultados evidencian que la dosis 517.2 kg ha-1 de NPK obtiene las mayores alturas con 69.91 cm y con un diámetro de 14.40 mm. La mejor densidad fue 33,333 plantas ha-1 con 67.58 cm de altura de planta. En el número de frutos la mejor combinación fue 387.9 kgha-1 * 33,333 plantas ha-1 con 350,209 frutos ha-1. En el peso kg ha-1 la dosis 387.9 kg ha-1 obtiene 36,948 kg ha-1 y la mejor densidad 33,333 plantas ha-1 con 37,809 kg ha1. El rendimiento de la semilla la mejor combinación fue 387.9 kg ha-1 * 33,333 plantas ha-1 con 151.9 kg ha -1 y el mejor porcentaje de germinación se obtuvo con 258.6 kg ha-1 con 88.6% y con densidad de 33,333 plantas ha-1 con 88.1%. La mayor relación valor costo lo obtiene la combinación 387.9 kg ha-1 * 33,333 plantas ha-1 con $ 75.23 por cada dólar invertido.
