Este trabalho de conclusão apresenta um método e uma ferramenta para avaliação da maturidade e da capacitação de ambientes de desenvolvimento de software baseado no uso da abordagem Goal/Question/Metric-GQM combinada aos métodos tradicionais de avaliação já existentes para o modelo Capability Maturity Model-CMM. A aplicação deste método através da ferramenta proposta permitirá a organização avaliada estabelecer o grau de conformidade preliminar dos seus processos em relação às exigências do modelo CMM. Esta avaliação poderá ser utilizada como ponto de partida para o estabelecimento de um processo de melhoria. O modelo CMM descreve uma série de estágios de maturidade que são atingidos através da satisfação de metas estabelecidas para áreas-chave do processo de desenvolvimento de software da organização. A evolução deste modelo, chamada de CMMI, Capability Maturity Model Integrated, possibilita que as organizações optem pela forma de implementação do modelo. Esta opção pode se dar através do uso do CMMI em estágios, vertical utilizando os níveis tradicionais do modelo, ou contínua; horizontal baseada nas áreas-chave de processo. Da mesma forma, a avaliação pode ser realizada sobre qualquer modelo escolhido. O modelo GQM descreve uma estrutura hierárquica baseada na existência de metas de melhoria preestabelecidas das quais são extraídas métricas e questões que as satisfazem. O nível de satisfação dessas metas é obtido através da análise das métricas relativas às questões aplicadas ao foco da avaliação Algumas ferramentas para avaliação dos processos relativos ao modelo CMM são apresentadas, tais como o questionário da maturidade e os modelos existentes para a criação de métodos de avaliação, CMM Apraisal Framework-CAF e Apraisal Requirements for CMMI-ARC. O diferencial apresentado é o estabelecimento de métricas objetivas e regras de interpretação dessas para a definição da satisfação de uma determinada área-chave de processo, ACP, do nível 2 do modelo CMMI. Além dessas contribuições vale destacar o estabelecimento de questões adicionais ao questionário da maturidade com o objetivo de capturar essas métricas e a criação de grafos GQM para cada ACP do nível 2 do CMMI. Esses grafos permitem a visualização do relacionamento existente entre cada ACP do nível 2 do CMMI com suas metas, questões e métricas. A aplicação do método e da ferramenta será demonstrada através da utilização de um estudo de caso aplicado na empresa DWA Informática Ltda.

The purpose of this study was to identify whether activity modeling framework supports problem analysis and provides a traceable and tangible connection from the problem identification up to solution modeling. Methodology validation relied on a real problem from a Portuguese teaching syndicate (ASPE), regarding courses development and management. The study was carried out with a perspective to elaborate a complete tutorial of how to apply activity modeling framework to a real world problem. Within each step of activity modeling, we provided a summary elucidation of the relevant elements required to perform it, pointed out some improvements and applied it to ASPE’s real problem. It was found that activity modeling potentiates well structured problem analysis as well as provides a guiding thread between problem and solution modeling. It was concluded that activity-based task modeling is key to shorten the gap between problem and solution. The results revealed that the solution obtained using activity modeling framework solved the core concerns of our customer and allowed them to enhance the quality of their courses development and management. The principal conclusion was that activity modeling is a properly defined methodology that supports software engineers in problem analysis, keeping a traceable guide among problem and solution.

The development of robots has shown itself as a very complex interdisciplinary research field. The predominant procedure for these developments in the last decades is based on the assumption that each robot is a fully personalized project, with the direct embedding of hardware and software technologies in robot parts with no level of abstraction. Although this methodology has brought countless benefits to the robotics research, on the other hand, it has imposed major drawbacks: (i) the difficulty to reuse hardware and software parts in new robots or new versions; (ii) the difficulty to compare performance of different robots parts; and (iii) the difficulty to adapt development needs-in hardware and software levels-to local groups expertise. Large advances might be reached, for example, if physical parts of a robot could be reused in a different robot constructed with other technologies by other researcher or group. This paper proposes a framework for robots, TORP (The Open Robot Project), that aims to put forward a standardization in all dimensions (electrical, mechanical and computational) of a robot shared development model. This architecture is based on the dissociation between the robot and its parts, and between the robot parts and their technologies. In this paper, the first specification for a TORP family and the first humanoid robot constructed following the TORP specification set are presented, as well as the advances proposed for their improvement.

Service provisioning is a challenging research area for the design and implementation of autonomic service-oriented software systems. It includes automated QoS management for such systems and their applications. Monitoring, Diagnosis and Repair are three key features of QoS management. This work presents a self-healing Web service-based framework that manages QoS degradation at runtime. Our approach is based on proxies. Proxies act on meta-level communications and extend the HTTP envelope of the exchanged messages with QoS-related parameter values. QoS Data are filtered over time and analysed using statistical functions and the Hidden Markov Model. Detected QoS degradations are handled with proxies. We experienced our framework using an orchestrated electronic shop application (FoodShop).

To manage the complexity associated with the management of multimedia distributed systems, a solution must incorporate concepts of middleware in order to hide specific hardware and operating systems aspects. Applications in these systems can be implemented in different types of platforms, and the components of these systems must interact each with the other. Because of the variability of the state of the platforms implementation, a flexible approach should allow dynamic substitution of components in order to ensure the level of QoS of the running application . In this context, this work presents an approach in the layer of middleware that we are proposing for supporting dynamic substitution of components in the context the Cosmos framework , starting with the choice of target component, rising taking the decision, which, among components candidates will be chosen and concluding with the process defined for the exchange. This dissertation presents a model-driven and integrated approach to variability management, customization and execution of software processes. Our approach is founded on the principles and techniques of software product lines and model-driven engineering. Model-driven engineering provides support to the specification of software processes and their transformation to workflow specifications. Software product lines techniques allows the automatic variability management of process elements and fragments. Additionally, in our approach, workflow technologies enable the process execution in workflow engines. In order to evaluate the approach feasibility, we have implemented it using existing model-driven engineering technologies. The software processes are specified using Eclipse Process Framework (EPF). The automatic variability management of software processes has been implemented as an extension of an existing product derivation tool. Finally, ATL and Acceleo transformation languages are adopted to transform EPF process to jPDL workflow language specifications in order to enable the deployment and execution of software processes in the JBoss BPM workflow engine. The approach is evaluated through the modeling and modularization of the project management discipline of the Open Unified Process (OpenUP)

The World Wide Web has been consolidated over the last years as a standard platform to provide software systems in the Internet. Nowadays, a great variety of user applications are available on the Web, varying from corporate applications to the banking domain, or from electronic commerce to the governmental domain. Given the quantity of information available and the quantity of users dealing with their services, many Web systems have sought to present recommendations of use as part of their functionalities, in order to let the users to have a better usage of the services available, based on their profile, history navigation and system use. In this context, this dissertation proposes the development of an agent-based framework that offers recommendations for users of Web systems. It involves the conception, design and implementation of an object-oriented framework. The framework agents can be plugged or unplugged in a non-invasive way in existing Web applications using aspect-oriented techniques. The tracking between models of the requirements and architecture activities is a strategy that aims to prevent loss of information, reducing the gap between these two initial activities of the software life cycle. In the context of Software Product Lines (SPL), it is important to have this support, which allows the correspondence between this two activities, with management of variability. In order to address this issue, this paper presents a process of bidirectional mapping, defining transformation rules between elements of a goaloriented requirements model (described in PL-AOVgraph) and elements of an architectural description (defined in PL-AspectualACME). These mapping rules are evaluated using a case study: the GingaForAll LPS. To automate this transformation, we developed the MaRiPLA tool (Mapping Requirements to Product Line Architecture), through MDD techniques (Modeldriven Development), including Atlas Transformation Language (ATL) with specification of Ecore metamodels jointly with Xtext , a DSL definition framework, and Acceleo, a code generation tool, in Eclipse environment. Finally, the generated models are evaluated based on quality attributes such as variability, derivability, reusability, correctness, traceability, completeness, evolvability and maintainability, extracted from the CAFÉ Quality Model

Self-adaptive software system is able to change its structure and/or behavior at runtime due to changes in their requirements, environment or components. One way to archieve self-adaptation is the use a sequence of actions (known as adaptation plans) which are typically defined at design time. This is the approach adopted by Cosmos - a Framework to support the configuration and management of resources in distributed environments. In order to deal with the variability inherent of self-adaptive systems, such as, the appearance of new components that allow the establishment of configurations that were not envisioned at development time, this dissertation aims to give Cosmos the capability of generating adaptation plans of runtime. In this way, it was necessary to perform a reengineering of the Cosmos Framework in order to allow its integration with a mechanism for the dynamic generation of adaptation plans. In this context, our work has been focused on conducting a reengineering of Cosmos. Among the changes made to in the Cosmos, we can highlight: changes in the metamodel used to represent components and applications, which has been redefined based on an architectural description language. These changes were propagated to the implementation of a new Cosmos prototype, which was then used for developing a case study application for purpose of proof of concept. Another effort undertaken was to make Cosmos more attractive by integrating it with another platform, in the case of this dissertation, the OSGi platform, which is well-known and accepted by the industry

One way to deal with the high complexity of current software systems is through selfadaptive systems. Self-adaptive system must be able to monitor themselves and their environment, analyzing the monitored data to determine the need for adaptation, decide how the adaptation will be performed, and finally, make the necessary adjustments. One way to perform the adaptation of a system is generating, at runtime, the process that will perform the adaptation. One advantage of this approach is the possibility to take into account features that can only be evaluated at runtime, such as the emergence of new components that allow new architectural arrangements which were not foreseen at design time. In this work we have as main objective the use of a framework for dynamic generation of processes to generate architectural adaptation plans on OSGi environment. Our main interest is evaluate how this framework for dynamic generation of processes behave in new environments

The objective of the present article is to identify and discuss the possibilities of using qualitative data analysis software in the framework of procedures proposed by SDI (socio-discursive interactionism), emphasizing free distribuited software or free versions of commercial software. A literature review of software for qualitative data analysis in the area of social sciences and humanities, focusing on language studies is presented. Some tools, such as: Wef-tQDA, MLCT, Yoshikoder and Tropes are examined with their respective features and functions. The software called Tropes is examined in more detail because of its particular relation with language and semantic analysis, as well as its embeded classification of linguistic elements such as, types of verbs, adjectives, modalizations, etc. Although trying to completely automate an SDI based analysis is not feasible, the programs appear to be powerful helpers in analyzing specific questions. Still, it seems important to be familiar with software options and use different applications in order to obtain a more diversified vision of the data. It is up to the researcher to be critical of the analysis provided by the machine.

A bilevel programming approach for the optimal contract pricing of distributed generation (DG) in distribution networks is presented. The outer optimization problem corresponds to the owner of the DG who must decide the contract price that would maximize his profits. The inner optimization problem corresponds to the distribution company (DisCo), which procures the minimization of the payments incurred in attending the expected demand while satisfying network constraints. The meet the expected demand the DisCo can purchase energy either form the transmission network through the substations or form the DG units within its network. The inner optimization problem is substituted by its Karush- Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions, turning the bilevel programming problem into an equivalent single-level nonlinear programming problem which is solved using commercially available software. © 2010 IEEE.

Humanoid robots are an extremely complex interdisciplinary research field. Particularly, the development of high size humanoid robots usually requires joint efforts and skills from groups that are in many different research centers around the world. However, there are serious constraints in this kind of collaborative development. Some efforts have been made in order to propose new software frameworks that can allow distributed development with also some degree of hardware abstraction, allowing software reuse in successive projects. However, computation represents only one of the dimensions in robotics tasks, and the need for reuse and exchange of full robot modules between groups are growing. Large advances could be reached if physical parts of a robot could be reused in a different robot constructed with other technologies by other researcher or group. This paper proposes a new robot framework, from now on called TORP (The Open Robot Project), that aims to provide a standard architecture in all dimensions (electrical, mechanical and computational) for this collaborative development. This methodology also represents an open project that is fully shared. In this paper, the first robot constructed following the TORP specification set is presented as well as the advances proposed for its improvement. © 2010 IEEE.
