Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome revealing an abdominal neuroblastoma.

Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome is a paraneoplastic syndrome that may reveal a primitive tumor. Neuroblastoma in children and small cell lung carcinoma in adults are the leading tumors revealed or expressed by paraneoplastic phenomena. The clinical neurologic manifestations of Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome are muscular weakness, sleepiness, absence of reflexes, and dysautonomia. Neurologic manifestations are explained by the induction of an autoimmune response because of the presence of antigens that are expressed by the tumor. Neurologic paraneoplastic disorders may also be the result of toxicity of drugs, coagulopathy, infection, or metabolic diseases. We describe the case of a 13-month-old child with unusual neurologic symptoms because of the presence of an abdominal neuroblastoma.

Joves enrotllats i alumnes modèlics: dos papers incompatibles?

Els professors universitaris ens trobem avui en dia amb situacions a les aules que ens generen un profund desconcert, i que responen a alguns símptomes del que s’ha anomenat la secundarització de la universitat. Aquesta situació ha provocat alguns crits d’alarma motivada, entre d’altres coses, pels dèficits en la formació dels estudiants que ens arriben -fet que dificulta mantenir els estandards de qualitat i que preocupa per la tendència a la rebaixa en els nivells acadèmics-, així com per les mostres d’una infantilització dels estudiants universitaris i pels diferents llenguatges entre professor i alumne que generen dificultats comunicatives importants. Hi ha moltes mostres d’aquestes dificultats actuals, del que podríem anomenar el desconcert de la universitat davant el canvi en el perfil de l’alumnat, que dia a dia ens ocupa en les reunions de claustre, en les avaluacions de curs, etc. Sense ànim d’exhaustivitat, i amb la pretensió de fer el que podríem anomenar una crònica impressionista d’una alarma, voldria dedicar aquest article a destacar-ne alguns exemples.

Myynnin raportoinnin käytettävyyden parantaminen toiminnanohjausjärjestelmämuutoksen jälkeen, Case: Stora Enso Publication Papers Oy Ltd

Tutkielman tavoitteena oli parantaa kohdeyrityksen myynnin raportoinnin käytettävyyttä toiminnanohjausjärjestelmämuutoksen jälkeen. Järjestelmämuutoksen jälkeen myyntitiedot siirtyivät puutteellisesti yrityksen tuloslaskentajärjestelmään. Tutkimus on empiriaan nojautuva tapaustutkimus. Siinätarkastellaan myynnin raportoinnin merkitystä yrityksen taloushallinnon raportoinnin osana sekä keinoja raportoinnin käytettävyyden varmistamiseksi. Lisäksi työssä käsitellään tietojärjestelmien osuutta taloushallinnon raportoinnissa ja tarkastellaan kohdeyrityksen tietojärjestelmiä ja niiden yhteistoimintaa. Empiirisen tutkimuksen tuloksena myyntitietojen puutteellisen siirtymisen syyksi havaittiin virheellinen poimintamääritys järjestelmien välillä.

Assessing the technical competitiveness of printing papers

This dissertation studies the technical quality assessment of a printing paper. The theoretical framework basis on the customer value hierarchy concept and the product integrity concept. The experimental part of the research was divided into two phases: Interviews of the publishers and the printers and the testing of the technical quality of selected consumer magazines and a set of selected white paper samples. The revenue coming from the advertising and the revenue coming from the copy sales arethe most important factors of efficiency of the publisher. They form the highest level in the customer value hierarchy of the publisher. A printed product is profiled according to the target group and product segment. There is no absolute level of good printed quality. It can be studied only in context of the requirements set on the printed product. Publishers quality expectations are basic elements of external product integrity. The most important elements of efficiency of the printer can be summarised to reaching high production efficiency in order toattain good profitability and competitive delivery times. Printers' factors of efficiency base on the customers expectations on the consequences in use situation in the customer value hierarchy. They form the basis of internal productintegrity. The use of purely technical testing to classify printed products according to the customers' expectations proved to be only indicative at its best. The information gathered from the interviews was documented and sorted withthe help of the QFD-technique. The technical quality of two different coated paper grades were assessed based on the customer expectations and based on the best achievable quality. When customer requirements are used for the basis of assessing the technical quality of printing papers the order from best to worst is different than when comparing the papers just based on the best achievable quality.

En aquest treball es realitza una anàlisi bibliomètrica i historiogràfica dels articles publicats a la revista PAPERS DE SOCIOLOGIA entre els anys 1987 i 2001, per tal de buscar-hi dades que ens permetin endinsar-nos en la realitat de la investigació sociològica que es duu a terme al nostre país, posant un èmfasi especial en les xarxes de col·laboració que s’estableixen entre els autors que publiquen les seves investigacions en aquesta revista.

La transformació d'una administració local cap a una administració electrònica sense papers

Aquest treball analitza en què consisteix l'administració electrònica i quines són les adaptacions que ha de realitzar una administració local per transformar-s'hi. El present document també recull quins són els elements clau que cal adaptar dins de l'organització, detallant-los i veient els beneficis d'utilitzar-los. Atès que la inversió econòmica per fer la transformació cap a l'e-Administració pot ser elevada, s'analitzen els serveis que ofereix de forma gratuïta el consorci d'Administració Oberta de Catalunya (AOC), els quals poden ajudar a abaratir la despesa.

Validation of plant dynamic model by online and laboratory measurements – a tool to predict online COD loads out of production of mechanical printing papers

COD discharges out of processes have increased in line with elevating brightness demands for mechanical pulp and papers. The share of lignin-like substances in COD discharges is on average 75%. In this thesis, a plant dynamic model was created and validated as a means to predict COD loading and discharges out of a mill. The assays were carried out in one paper mill integrate producing mechanical printing papers. The objective in the modeling of plant dynamics was to predict day averages of COD load and discharges out of mills. This means that online data, like 1) the level of large storage towers of pulp and white water 2) pulp dosages, 3) production rates and 4) internal white water flows and discharges were used to create transients into the balances of solids and white water, referred to as “plant dynamics”. A conversion coefficient was verified between TOC and COD. The conversion coefficient was used for predicting the flows from TOC to COD to the waste water treatment plant. The COD load was modeled with similar uncertainty as in reference TOC sampling. The water balance of waste water treatment was validated by the reference concentration of COD. The difference of COD predictions against references was within the same deviation of TOC-predictions. The modeled yield losses and retention values of TOC in pulping and bleaching processes and the modeled fixing of colloidal TOC to solids between the pulping plant and the aeration basin in the waste water treatment plant were similar to references presented in literature. The valid water balances of the waste water treatment plant and the reduction model of lignin-like substances produced a valid prediction of COD discharges out of the mill. A 30% increase in the release of lignin-like substances in the form of production problems was observed in pulping and bleaching processes. The same increase was observed in COD discharges out of waste water treatment. In the prediction of annual COD discharge, it was noticed that the reduction of lignin has a wide deviation from year to year and from one mill to another. This made it difficult to compare the parameters of COD discharges validated in plant dynamic simulation with another mill producing mechanical printing papers. However, a trend of moving from unbleached towards high-brightness TMP in COD discharges was valid.
