As áreas de visualização e modelagem baseados em pontos têm sido pesquisadas ativamente na computação gráfica. Pontos com atributos (por exemplo, normais) são geralmente chamados de surfels e existem vários algoritmos para a manipulação e visualização eficiente deles. Um ponto chave para a eficiência de muitos métodos é o uso de estruturas de particionamento do espaço. Geralmente octrees e KD-trees, por utilizarem cortes alinhados com os eixos são preferidas em vez das BSP-trees, mais genéricas. Neste trabalho, apresenta-se uma estrutura chamada Constrained BSP-tree (CBSP-tree), que pode ser vista como uma estrutura intermediárias entre KD-trees e BSP-trees. A CBSP-tree se caracteriza por permitir cortes arbitrários desde que seja satisfeito um critério de validade dos cortes. Esse critério pode ser redefinido de acordo com a aplicação. Isso permite uma aproximação melhor de regões curvas. Apresentam-se algoritmos para construir CBSP-trees, valendo-se da flexibilidade que a estrutura oferece, e para realizar operações booleanas usando uma nova classificação de interior/exterior.

Renovados são os desa os trazidos à computação distribuída pelos recentes desenvolvimentos nas tecnologias de computação móvel. Tais avanços inspiram uma perspectiva na qual a computação tornar-se-á uma entidade ubíqua em um futuro próximo, estando presente nas mais simples atividades do dia-a-dia. Esta perspectiva é motivadora das pesquisas conduzidas no escopo do projeto ISAM, as quais investigam as questões relativas ao uso da computação em ambientes móveis de larga escala. Neste trabalho é apresentado o sistema PRIMOS (PRIMitives for Object Scheduling), o qual busca, pela complementação da plataforma Java, satisfazer as emergentes necessidades do ISAM. Especi camente, o PRIMOS constitui um conjunto de primitivas para instanciação remota e migração de objetos, comunicação e monitoração, direcionadas a um ambiente de computação distribuída de larga escala de características pervasivas. A primitiva de instanciação remota disponibilizada pelo PRIMOS aumenta a plataforma Java padrão com a possibilidade de criar e ativar objetos em nodos remotos do sistema. Por sua vez, a primitiva de migração faculta a relocação de objetos. A consecu- ção de tais semânticas tem como sub-produto a de nição de semânticas para ativação e desativação de objetos, assim como para captura e restauração de contexto de execução. Sob a perspectiva da comunicação, o PRIMOS de ne um esquema de endereçamento independente de protocolo de transporte, assim como uma interface neutra para acesso às facilidades de comunicação. A integração destas funcionalidades ao mecanismo de invocações remotas da plataforma Java, o RMI, permite a desvinculação deste da pilha TCP/IP. Por conseguinte, habilita a adoção de transportes otimizados ao hardware de comunicação disponibilizado pelo sistema. No que se refere à monitoração, o PRIMOS de ne um esquema exível e extensível baseado em sensores. A exibilidade vem principalmente da possibilidade dos sensores terem seus parâmetros de operação recon gurados a qualquer momento em resposta a novas necessidades do sistema. Por outro lado, o sistema é extensível pois o conjunto de sensores básicos, ditos nativos, pode ser aumentado por sensores providos pela aplicação. Com intuito de validar as idéias postuladas, um protótipo foi construído para o sistema. Sobre este, baterias de testes foram realizadas para cada uma das primitivas constituintes do PRIMOS.

A crescente complexidade dos sistemas tempo-real embarcados demanda novas metodologias e ferramentas para gerenciar os problemas de projeto, análise, integração e validação de sistemas complexos. Este trabalho aborda o tema co-projeto de sistemas tempo-real embarcados, propondo estratégias para a integração das fases iniciais de modelagem de um sistema tempo-real embarcado com as fases subseqüentes do projeto, como a implementação do software e do hardware. É proposto um framework orientado a objetos que permite a criação de modelos orientados a objetos de sistemas tempo-real embarcados, utilizando conceitos temporais similares aos propostos em UML-RT (ou mais especificamente no UML Profile for Schedulability, Performance and Time). É proposta uma estratégia de mapeamento dos requisitos temporais dos diagramas UMLRT para uma interface de programação (API) baseada na “Especificação Tempo-Real para Java” (Real-Time Specification for Java ou RTSJ), a qual pode ser executada tanto em software – em programas RTSJ executando em máquinas virtuais Java (JVM) tempo-real – ou em hardware – em processadores Java Tempo-Real. Para permitir o mapeamento para hardware são propostas extensões tempo-real ao processador Java FemtoJava, desenvolvido no âmbito de dissertações de mestrado e projetos de pesquisa no PPGC, criando-se um novo processador tempo-real denominado de RT-FemtoJava. Dentre as extensões propostas ao processador FemtoJava destaca-se a inclusão de um relógio de tempo-real e o suporte a instruções para alocação e manipulação de objetos. Os conceitos propostos foram validados no âmbito de estudos de caso, sendo os resultados obtidos descritos na presente dissertação.

This study investigates the development of Learning Objects for the literacy of children. It aims to know based in the notion of literacy teachers the main factors of academic failure in literacy and researching in Brazil, as well as identify relevant activities in the literacy process of children to support the creation of a set of Learning Objects. Refers to an exploratory research, which is configured as a qualitative nature case study, inspired in part in an action-research described by Thiollent (2003), conducted with ten early grades elementary school teachers of a public municipal school in Parnamirim / RN. As methodological options for data collection uses questionnaires and focuses on the group of teachers, analyzing the data, referring back to the ideas by Szymanski (2001; 2008) and content analysis, guided by Bardin (2002). The development of Learning Objects, follows the steps of development suggested by Garrett (2000). Rules in its multidisciplinary theoretical reference and promotes a conceptual dialogue on: Literacy; Literacy School Failure; Pedagogical Practice in Literacy; Thoughts and Language; Multimedia and Hypermedia; Learning Objects. Perceives that the act of education in literacy as an act of love, courage and social interaction between individuals - educator and pupil, so there is ownership of the object of knowledge in the relations with the world and with the experience, through a pedagogical practice that assumes all different knowledges, the moral political ideal, the mindsets of the students, and can make use of teaching materials that supports the learning process and are consistent with the educational objectives (FREIRE, 1998; FREINET, 1976; VYGOTSKY, 1998; FERREIRO AND TEBEROSKY, 1985; JONASSEN, 2000; WILEY, 2001). Figures out, through the teachers' opinions, five reasons for school failure in literacy, three inside the school environment: teacher; academic assistant and principal; student, and two outside the school environment: parents/family; government and public management. Presents a set of Learning Objects, based on the constructivist thought, developed from the identification of activities considered relevant by teachers in literacy's teaching and learning process. Suggests the use of Learning Objects as pedagogical practice in literacy as a digital resource that supports learning and can trigger important cognitive processes for the acquisition of reading and writing skills in the school environment

Due of industrial informatics several attempts have been done to develop notations and semantics, which are used for classifying and describing different kind of system behavior, particularly in the modeling phase. Such attempts provide the infrastructure to resolve some real problems of engineering and construct practical systems that aim at, mainly, to increase the productivity, quality, and security of the process. Despite the many studies that have attempted to develop friendly methods for industrial controller programming, they are still programmed by conventional trial-and-error methods and, in practice, there is little written documentation on these systems. The ideal solution would be to use a computational environment that allows industrial engineers to implement the system using high-level language and that follows international standards. Accordingly, this work proposes a methodology for plant and control modelling of the discrete event systems that include sequential, parallel and timed operations, using a formalism based on Statecharts, denominated Basic Statechart (BSC). The methodology also permits automatic procedures to validate and implement these systems. To validate our methodology, we presented two case studies with typical examples of the manufacturing sector. The first example shows a sequential control for a tagged machine, which is used to illustrated dependences between the devices of the plant. In the second example, we discuss more than one strategy for controlling a manufacturing cell. The model with no control has 72 states (distinct configurations) and, the model with sequential control generated 20 different states, but they only act in 8 distinct configurations. The model with parallel control generated 210 different states, but these 210 configurations act only in 26 distinct configurations, therefore, one strategy control less restrictive than previous. Lastly, we presented one example for highlight the modular characteristic of our methodology, which it is very important to maintenance of applications. In this example, the sensors for identifying pieces in the plant were removed. So, changes in the control model are needed to transmit the information of the input buffer sensor to the others positions of the cell

In this work, we propose methodologies and computer tools to insert robots in cultural environments. The basic idea is to have a robot in a real context (a cultural space) that can represent an user connected to the system through Internet (visitor avatar in the real space) and that the robot also have its representation in a Mixed Reality space (robot avatar in the virtual space). In this way, robot and avatar are not simply real and virtual objects. They play a more important role in the scenery, interfering in the process and taking decisions. In order to have this service running, we developed a module composed by a robot, communication tools and ways to provide integration of these with the virtual environment. As welI we implemented a set of behaviors with the purpose of controlling the robot in the real space. We studied available software and hardware tools for the robotics platform used in the experiments, as welI we developed test routines to determine their potentialities. Finally, we studied the behavior-based control model, we planned and implemented alI the necessary behaviors for the robot integration to the real and virtual cultural spaces. Several experiments were conducted, in order to validate the developed methodologies and tools

The great diversity in the architecture of biomedical devices, coupled with their different communication protocols, has hindered the implementation of systems that need to make access to these devices. Given these differences, the need arises to provide access to such a transparent manner. In this sense, this paper proposes an embedded architecture, service-oriented, for access to biomedical devices, as a way to abstract the mechanism for writing and reading data on these devices, thereby contributing to the increase in quality and productivity of biomedical systems so as to enable that, the focus of the development team of biomedical software, is almost exclusively directed to its functional requirements

Middleware platforms have been widely used as an underlying infrastructure to the development of distributed applications. They provide distribution and heterogeneity transparency and a set of services that ease the construction of distributed applications. Nowadays, the middlewares accommodate an increasing variety of requirements to satisfy distinct application domains. This broad range of application requirements increases the complexity of the middleware, due to the introduction of many cross-cutting concerns in the architecture, which are not properly modularized by traditional programming techniques, resulting in a tangling and spread of theses concerns in the middleware code. The presence of these cross-cutting concerns limits the middleware scalability and aspect-oriented paradigm has been used successfully to improve the modularity, extensibility and customization capabilities of middleware. This work presents AO-OiL, an aspect-oriented (AO) middleware architecture, based on the AO middleware reference architecture. This middleware follows the philosophy that the middleware functionalities must be driven by the application requirements. AO-OiL consists in an AO refactoring of the OiL (Orb in Lua) middleware in order to separate basic and crosscutting concerns. The proposed architecture was implemented in Lua and RE-AspectLua. This work approaches the Scheduling Workover Rigs Problem (SWRP) to maintain the wells of an oil field, although difficult to resolve, is extremely important economical, technical and environmental. A mathematical formulation of this problem is presented, where an algorithmic approach was developed. The problem can be considered to find the best scheduling service to the wells by the workover rigs, taking into account the minimization of the composition related to the costs of the workover rigs and the total loss of oil suffered by the wells. This problem is similar to the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), which is classified as belonging to the NP-hard class. The goal of this research is to develop an algorithmic approach to solve the SWRP, using the fundamentals of metaheuristics like Memetic Algorithm and GRASP. Instances are generated for the tests to analyze the computational performance of the approaches mentioned above, using data that are close to reality. Thereafter, is performed a comparison of performance and quality of the results obtained by each one of techniques used

The game industry has been experiencing a consistent increase in production costs of games lately. Part of this increase refers to the current trend of having bigger, more interactive and replayable environments. This trend translates to an increase in both team size and development time, which makes game development a even more risky investment and may reduce innovation in the area. As a possible solution to this problem, the scientific community is focusing on the generation of procedural content and, more specifically, on procedurally generated levels. Given the great diversity and complexity of games, most works choose to deal with a specific genre, platform games being one of the most studied. This work aims at proposing a procedural level generation method for platform/adventure games, a fairly more complex genre than most classic platformers which so far has not been the subject of study from other works. The level generation process was divided in two steps, planning and viusal generation, respectively responsible for generating a compact representation of the level and determining its view. The planning stage was divided in game design and level design, and uses a goaloriented process to output a set of rooms. The visual generation step receives a set of rooms and fills its interior with the appropriate parts of previously authored geometry

The interval datatype applications in several areas is important to construct a interval type reusable, i.e., a interval constructor can be applied to any datatype and get intervals this datatype. Since the interval is, of certain form, a set of elements limited for two bounds, left and right, with a order notions, then it s reasonable that interval constructor enclose datatypes with partial order. On the order hand, what we want is work with interval of any datatype like this we work with this datatype then. it s important to guarantee the properties of the datatype when maps to interval of this datatype. Thus, the interval constructor get a theory to parametrized interval type, i.e., a interval with generics parameters (for example rational, real, complex). Sometimes, the interval application in some algebras doesn t guarantee the mainutenance of their properties, for example, when we use interval of real, that satisfies the field properties, it doesn t guarantee the distributivity propertie. A form to surpass this problem Santiago introduced the local equality theory that weakened the notion of strong equality, and thus, allowing some properties are local keeped, what can be discard before. The interval arithmetic generalization aim to apply the interval constructor on ordered algebras weakened for local equality with the purpose of the keep their properties. How the intervals are important in applications with continuous data, it s interesting specify that theory using a specification language that supply a system development using intervals of form disciplined, trustworth and safe. Currently, the algebraic specification language, based in math models, have been use to that intention often. We choose CASL (Common Algebraic Specification Language) among others languages because CASL has several characteristics excellent to parametrized interval type, such as, provide parcialiy and parametrization

Neste trabalho, apresentamos uma ferramenta cujo intuito é auxiliar não-programadores, jogadores de videogame, na criação de extensões na forma de Add-ons para World of Warcraft, o jogo online. Nele, o usuário pode criar extensões customizando completamente sua interface, de forma a reinventar a sua experiência de jogo e melhorar sua jogabilidade. A criação de extensões para aplicativos e jogos surgiu da crescente necessidade de fornecer aos usuários mecanismos eficientes de Programação por Usuário Final, permitindo que os mesmos preenchessem suas necessidades singulares através da criação, customização e especificação de extensões em software. Em World of Warcraft mais especificamente, os Add-ons exploram um tipo de extensão na qual os jogadores passam a programar sua própria interface de usuário ou a fazer uso de interfaces criadas por outros usuários. No entanto, realizar a programação dessas extensões - os Add-ons - não é uma tarefa fácil. Dentro deste contexto, desenvolvemos a ferramenta EUPAT for WoW (do inglês, End-User Programming Assistance Tool for World of Warcraft) que oferece assistência à criação de Add-ons. Além disso, investigamos como usuários jogadores com e sem conhecimento de programação são beneficiados. Os resultados desta pesquisa permitiram refletir sobre as estratégias de assistência de programação por usuário final no contexto de jogos
