Desarrollo de metodologías de apoyo basadas en el uso de plataformas virtuales de enseñanza para asignaturas de planes de estudio en extinción

En este trabajo se presenta una experiencia sobre la aplicación de diversas metodologías de apoyo cuyo objetivo principal es ofrecer a los alumnos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Navales (ETSIN) de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) pertenecientes a un Plan de Estudios en extinción (Plan 2002) y del que ya han dejado e recibir clases presenciales en los primeros cursos, las herramientas adecuadas por medio de la plataforma virtual Moodle, para que puedan prepararse con garantías de éxito los exámenes finales de estas asignaturas, evitando cambiar obligatoriamente de plan de estudios. Se pretende dar a conocer a los profesores de las asignaturas sin docencia, la posibilidad de diseñar una metodología con tres niveles distintos de aprendizaje, solicitar el alta en el espacio virtual de enseñanza de aquellas asignaturas que no figuren en la plataforma virtual y poner a disposición del alumno el material necesario para lograr superar la asignatura. Los objetivos principales para el alumno son posibilitar el aprendizaje autónomo mediante recursos docentes y actividades alojados en la plataforma virtual, de forma que pueda estudiar la asignatura según el nivel de seguimiento que exija la misma.

Region-dependent vehicle classification using PCA features

Video-based vehicle detection is the focus of increasing interest due to its potential towards collision avoidance. In particular, vehicle verification is especially challenging due to the enormous variability of vehicles in size, color, pose, etc. In this paper, a new approach based on supervised learning using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is proposed that addresses the main limitations of existing methods. Namely, in contrast to classical approaches which train a single classifier regardless of the relative position of the candidate (thus ignoring valuable pose information), a region-dependent analysis is performed by considering four different areas. In addition, a study on the evolution of the classification performance according to the dimensionality of the principal subspace is carried out using PCA features within a SVM-based classification scheme. Indeed, the experiments performed on a publicly available database prove that PCA dimensionality requirements are region-dependent. Hence, in this work, the optimal configuration is adapted to each of them, rendering very good vehicle verification results.

Accurate depth-color scene modeling for 3D contents generation with low cost depth cameras

In this paper, we present a depth-color scene modeling strategy for indoors 3D contents generation. It combines depth and visual information provided by a low-cost active depth camera to improve the accuracy of the acquired depth maps considering the different dynamic nature of the scene elements. Accurate depth and color models of the scene background are iteratively built, and used to detect moving elements in the scene. The acquired depth data is continuously processed with an innovative joint-bilateral filter that efficiently combines depth and visual information thanks to the analysis of an edge-uncertainty map and the detected foreground regions. The main advantages of the proposed approach are: removing depth maps spatial noise and temporal random fluctuations; refining depth data at object boundaries, generating iteratively a robust depth and color background model and an accurate moving object silhouette.

Subjective study of adaptive streaming strategies for 3DTV

Although the delivery of 3D video services to households is nowadays a reality thanks to frame-compatible formats, many efforts are being made to obtain efficient methods to transmit 3D content offering a high quality of experience to the end users. In this paper, a stereoscopic video streaming scenario is considered and the perceptual impact of various strategies applicable to adaptive streaming situations are compared. Specifically, the mechanisms are based on switching between copies of the content with different coding qualities, on discarding frames of the sequence, on switching from 3D to 2D and on using asymmetric coding of the stereo views. In addition, when video freezes happen, the possibility of keeping the end-to-end latency or maintaining the continuity of the video are considered. These aspects were evaluated carrying out a subjective assessment test considering also visual discomfort issues using a methodology designed to keep as far as possible domestic viewing conditions.

Evaluación de competencias genéricas instrumentales en la asignatura de Sistemas Operativos I

Una de las directrices emanadas del proceso de convergencia hacia el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES) hace referencia al desarrollo de competencias transversales (genéricas) de nuestros estudiantes. Nos estamos refiriendo a aquellas habilidades instrumentales, personales y sistémicas que van más allá de las específicas de cada materia. En 2005, un grupo de profesores de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) constituimos el Grupo de Innovación Educativa DMAE-DIA que fue reconocido como tal por la UPM en 2006. Las líneas de actuación prioritarias del grupo son la evaluación de competencias transversales y el desarrollo de metodologías de aprendizaje activo. Desde entonces y en colaboración con dos profesoras del Departamento de Metodología de las Ciencias del Comportamiento de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid estamos realizando evaluaciones sobre la adquisición de algunas de las citadas competencias. En este trabajo presentamos el procedimiento, los resultados y un análisis de los mismos en relación con la evaluación de una competencia genérica instrumental: la capacidad de organización y planificación del estudio. Se considera el estudio como una conducta psicopedagógica compleja, en la que se delimitan 3 fases: antes, durante y después. En este trabajo se han evaluado estrategias durante el estudio. Los sujetos del estudio fueron los alumnos de la asignatura de Sistemas Operativos I, en el curso académico 2006/2007. Como quedará puesto de manifiesto, nuestros estudiantes están en un percentil muy bajo en relación con esta competencia lo que influye sobremanera sobre el rendimiento académico final. En este trabajo también describimos algunas acciones que pensamos ejecutar para intentar paliar este problema.

Advances in Control of Teleoperation System by State Convergence

In this work, we proposes a control strategy by state convergence applied to bilateral control of a nonlinear teleoperator system with constant delay. The bilateral control of the teleoperator system considers the case when the human operator applies a constant force on the local manipulator and when the interaction of the remote manipulator with the environment is considered passive. The stability analysis is performed using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, it showed that using an control algorithm by state convergence for the case with constant delay, the nonlinear local and remote teleoperation system is asymptotically stable, also speeds converge to zero and position tracking is achieved. This work also presents the implementation of an experimental platform. The mechanical structure of the arm that is located in the remote side has been built and the electric servomechanism has been mounted to control their movement.

In the case of parts for the aerospace industry, manufacturing processes assume greater importance due to the extreme demands on reliability and quality.

MÍDIAS SOCIAIS DIGITAIS: ESPAÇO DE RELACIONAMENTO E COMUNICAÇÃO ESTRATÉGICA

O trabalho tem como proposta avaliar a postura das organizações nas mídias sociais digitais, considerando o fato de que esses novos ambientes virtuais têm modificado drasticamente a maneira pela qual elas promovem o relacionamento com seus públicos estratégicos. O objetivo principal da pesquisa é identificar e compreender como as organizações se posicionam diante de comentários desfavoráveis nas mídias sociais digitais que possam impactar sua imagem e reputação, bem como mostrar a importância de monitorar constantemente o consumidor e dialogar com ele nos canais digitais para evitar riscos à marca. A metodologia aplicada denomina-se Estudo de Casos Múltiplos, por meio da qual analisaram-se os comentários desfavoráveis às marcas: Vivo, Tim e Oi, na página do Facebook, durante o mês de setembro de 2015. Construiu-se um protocolo de pesquisa, e realizou-se o acompanhamento dessas marcas analisando-lhes os posts e os comentários desfavoráveis coletados no período. Constatou-se, após tais procedimentos que as operadoras apresentam frequentemente dificuldades para se relacionar com os públicos nas mídias sociais digitais, o que as coloca em risco quanto à sua imagem e reputação.

Creating A Research Writing Environment With Personalized Library Instruction

This is the final project poster presented by Ms. Keeton at ALA's 2016 Annual at Orlando, Florida. The poster shows how one faculty library group comes together to explore assessing students’ writing intensive projects in three academic semesters within a scholarly learning space at a Historically Black College University.

Mimicking the behaviour of idiotypic AIS robot controllers using probabilistic systems

Previous work has shown that robot navigation systems that employ an architecture based upon the idiotypic network theory of the immune system have an advantage over control techniques that rely on reinforcement learning only. This is thought to be a result of intelligent behaviour selection on the part of the idiotypic robot. In this paper an attempt is made to imitate idiotypic dynamics by creating controllers that use reinforcement with a number of different probabilistic schemes to select robot behaviour. The aims are to show that the idiotypic system is not merely performing some kind of periodic random behaviour selection, and to try to gain further insight into the processes that govern the idiotypic mechanism. Trials are carried out using simulated Pioneer robots that undertake navigation exercises. Results show that a scheme that boosts the probability of selecting highly-ranked alternative behaviours to 50% during stall conditions comes closest to achieving the properties of the idiotypic system, but remains unable to match it in terms of all round performance.

El rol de las redes de apoyo transnacional en la evolución del régimen de trata de personas en la región del mekong, 2004-2015

Con el fin de la unipolaridad no sólo se fortalecieron mecanismos de gobernanza global como los Regímenes Internacionales, sino también se fortalecieron actores no estatales. A pesar de la importancia que tomaron estos dos elementos aún no existe una teoría que explique exhaustivamente la relación que existe entre ellos. Es por lo anterior que, la investigación busca responder de qué manera el rol de las Redes de Apoyo Transnacional ha incidido en la evolución del régimen de tráfico de personas en la Región del Mekong. Asimismo tiene como objetivo comprender las relación entre el Régimen y las Redes de Apoyo Transnacional a través de la formulación de un caso de estudio basado en metodologías cualitativas, específicamente, en el análisis teórico-constructivista y el análisis de contenido de documentos producidos por actores estatales y no estatales.
