Cerebral paralysis is a chronic illness that affects the central nervous system. In this article the author describes the techniques used at CAOE (Odontological Center for Assistance to patients with special needs) to restraint CP patients during dental treatment, because they present some pathological reflexes which interfere in their odontological assistance. Also it shows how to perform a special physical restraint and how to keep the mouth open by using simple tools including a homemade one. All the devices used during the dental treatment in cerebral palsy patients, such as the physical restraint with bands or sheet to wrap them up, cylindrical pad or cushion made of a soft material, or simple tools including a homemade one to keep the mouth open are usually and safely used in CAOE. All these simple devices are necessary, because there are no available funds for the acquisition of expensive material or equipment. Despite of a shortage of resources we can easily and efficiently assist these patients.

The Physical Activity Program for Persons with Special Needs (PAFIPNES) is a extension project developed since 2002, and operates in secondary care to the health of obese, diabetic and hypertensive women. This offer exercise programs supervised by physical education professionals, together with a multidisciplinary health team that works in a Health Basic Unit of São José do Rio Pardo/SP. Their actions included interventions to improve general health status and stimulate the adoption of a more active lifestyle. In addition, the PAFIPNES serves as an internship site for scholars of Physical Education can acquire knowledge and skills that enable them to act on basic health care of patients with Non Communicable Diseases, as mentioned above.

The hippotherapy is a therapeutic and educational method that uses the horse within an interdisciplinary approach in the areas of health, education and riding, seeking the biopsychosocial development of people with disabilities and/or special needs. The method generates the practitioner positive effects, such as physical, social and psychological benefits. The goal of this study was to investigate alterations with a practitioner with visual impairment during their participation in a hippotherapy program. The study is characterized by a qualitative and descriptive research, in the form of case study. Data were collected through interviews with the mother of the practitioner and filming, photographs and systematic observation of the sessions. Improvements were found in the behavior of practicing at home, and there was progress in motor performance, and self-confidence generated by the domain horse. It is concluded that the hippotherapy program generated physical, psychological and social benefits to the practitioner.

This study examines the hippotherapy related to school inclusion. Inclusive education, given the diversity of human kind, seeks to understand and meet the educational needs of all students. Visual impairment is defined as a reduction or complete loss of ability to see with the better eye and after the best possible optical correction, and may be perceived by the focus when the individual educational needs of Braille for their learning. Hippotherapy is a therapeutic and educational method that uses the horse in an interdisciplinary approach in health, education and riding, searching for the biopsychosocial development of people with disabilities and/or special needs. The general objectives were: to follow a Hippotherapy program applied to a student with visual disabilities included in regular education from the practice sessions of hippotherapy and the student's school routine, and specific: to verify changes to a student with visual impairment during their participation in an equine therapy program, to check the commitment, involvement and interest in school activities the student practicing hippotherapy inserted into the regular school system. The methodology was a qualitative research, in the form of case study. The instruments of data collection were interviews, video recordings, photographs, school information and the subject of systematic observations of the sessions of hippotherapy. Interviews were conducted at three different times during the course of the program. First we used a strategy for succeeding in increasing the involvement of practicing with the school. Later, another strategy was established, consisting of the effective presence of the researcher in the school to carry out activities on the hippotherapy within the school environment. La Orientación y la Diversidad, para la generalidad de los países Europeos y América del Norte, se relaciona con la atención a los niños(as) y jóvenes con necesidades especiales que asisten a una institución educativa y para quienes se elaboran programas educativos dirigidos a lograr una mejor adaptación al sistema social prevaleciente. En la mayoría de los casos se considera que la problemática de las necesidades especiales es imputable a factores genéticos o personales que sólo responden a factores internos a los individuos que las presentan obviando los factores externos, que en algunos casos pueden resultar más determinantes y decisivos a la hora de la manifestación conductual. En este trabajo se aboga porque los profesionales de la orientación, tanto en la práctica privada o pública de los países europeos, hagan consideraciones más específicas al momento de atender a niños (as), jóvenes y adultos(as), en su condición de inmigrantes, provenientes de América Latina. En un sentido amplio se propone hacer Orientación en la Diversidad más que Orientación para la Diversidad bajo la concepción de una Orientación para Todos que implica la eliminación de la expresión "necesidades especiales", cuya connotación en nuestros países no resulta la más apropiada, y que incluye la idea de una Orientación Étnica. Quizás la mejor manera de abordaje de estas concepciones es promoviendo un proceso de Orientación desde la Escuela y no sólo en la Escuela.

This work has as object the elaboration of social environmental indicator of disaster risk that are present in precarious areas of human occupation, related to intense environmental dynamic from the perspective of the studies about the subject in Geography. The District of Mãe Luiza in Natal, capital city of Rio Grande do Norte, was defined as the study area. The place was chosen because it presents –historically- several vulnerability conditions and exposure to disaster risk. After a local social environmental description, two indexes were elaborated: the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI or IVS in Portuguese), based on 17 (seventeen) variables arranged on a questionnaire addressed to the population nucleus of the district, on regular grid (systematic sampling), classified into 5 (five) levels of SV from the weighted average; and the Physical and Natural Exposure to the Mass Movements Index (EMMI or IEMM in Portuguese) which had 16 (sixteen) variables that feature conditions of exposure to the mass movements in the district with classified levels from the weighted average of 1 (one) to 5 (five). The relationship between these two results, specialized in the district map, produced the Social Environmental Vulnerability Index (SEVI or IVSA in Portuguese) of Mãe Luiza, also classified into 5 (five) levels, following the Boolean logic correlation for cartographic overlay with use of computer software ArcGIS v.9.3, being named as: Very Low; low; average; high; and Very High Environmental Vulnerability in District. The study is based on the methodology proposed by Guerra et al (2009) for EMMI and by Almeida (2010) for SVI. They were modified and adapted according to the local reality, producing a new methodology in this study area. It was concluded that the neighborhood has most of its area with High and Very High Socio-environmental vulnerability to disasters, defined seven (7) critical areas, with Very High IVSA, and hazards associated with mass movements or flooding. In the end, the main issues that were found, such as generating elements for proposing mitigation measures and/or the proposed interventions were enumerated, related to structural order of vulnerability factors: how low constructive pattern of households; poor urban drainage; Real Estate forsaken in landslide routes; infrastructure ready access roads and slope containment. And social: as a lack of education about environmental risk; income and education of residents; presence of persons with limited mobility and/or those with special needs. This reality highlights the need for urgent action applied to the resolution and/or reduction of these problems, which is focusing the end of this work.

No entanto, a inclusao de crianças com necessidades educativas especiais com apoio especializado que ofereça suporte aos professores atuantes no ensino regular, ainda se mostra como um grande desafio. Com base nisso, elaboramos este relato de experiências vivenciadas no âmbito das açoes do Subprojeto Interdisciplinar ?Organizaçao do Trabalho Pedagógico da Educaçao Física e da Pedagogia nos Anos Iniciais do Ensino Fundamental? ? UFSM. Objetivamos relatar os desafios enfrentados pelos alunos em formaçao para a docência de Educaçao Física para planejarem e desenvolverem situaçoes de ensino e de aprendizagem para alunos com necessidades educativas especiais, nas aulas regulares. Pode-se perceber que a falta de conhecimentos profissionais inicia-se na formaçao inicial. Poucos sao os espaços e conteúdos do curso de formaçao de professores destinados a garantir conhecimentos mínimos necessários para a atuaçao com crianças com necessidades especiais. Por conseguinte, esta situaçao prossegue durante a carreira profissional docente necessitando de cursos de especializaçao e capacitaçao, a qual deve ser tarefa nao apenas do educador, como também de toda equipe escolar, permitindo uma reflexao contínua da prática pedagógica a fim de ressignificá-la

Expõe considerações a respeito dos portadores de necessidades especiais, das pessoas com deficiência, um enfoque parcial sobre as doenças degenerativas da visão, e uma atenção especial para as pessoas com deficiência visual, objeto de estudo da pesquisa desenvolvida. Estabelece um resgate da evolução dos métodos que possibilitaram a essas pessoas registrar e decodificar informações na forma escrita até o surgimento do Sistema Braille. Destaca ainda os suportes e as formas de registro da informação no mencionado sistema, e aponta nominalmente os novos recursos decorrentes do advento das novas tecnologias.
