Imperfect Competition

Estas notas sobre competencia imperfecta están dedicadas al estudio de estructuras de mercado caracterizadas por la existencia de poder de mercado. Se estudia en primer lugar el monopolio, dedicando una atención especial a los diferentes tipos de discriminación de precios. A continuación se presenta la Tª de juegos no cooperativos y se muestra su utilidad para analizar diferentes fenómenos económicos caracterizados por la interdependencia estratégica. Finalmente, se estudian diferentes modelos de competencia oligopolística y la estabilidad de los acuerdos colusivos.

Regulation of the fitness of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) by intra-specific competition amongst the juveniles

Factors affecting the fitness of juvenile salmon are discussed. Although fitness from the genetic point of view is defined as the relative capacity of carriers of a given genotype to transmit their genes to the gene pool of the following generations, growth and survival of individuals are also components of fitness, and are influenced by responses to competition, which is the major topic of this article including implications for management. In order to better understand the relationships of density-dependent survival in Newfoundland, egg depositions were manipulated experimentally in the Freshwater River. Figures demonstrate the relationship between stock (number of eggs per 100 m2 of river) and recruitment (number of smolts per l00 m2 of Atlantic salmon, and also the percentage survival from egg to smolt stage related to potential egg depositions.

Information processing and higher psychological functions in the disconnected hemispheres of human commissurotomy patients

Several patients of P. J. Vogel who had undergone cerebral commissurotomy for the control of intractable epilepsy were tested on a variety of tasks to measure aspects of cerebral organization concerned with lateralization in hemispheric function. From tests involving identification of shapes it was inferred that in the absence of the neocortical commissures, the left hemisphere still has access to certain types of information from the ipsilateral field. The major hemisphere can still make crude differentiations between various left-field stimuli, but is unable to specify exact stimulus properties. Most of the time the major hemisphere, having access to some ipsilateral stimuli, dominated the minor hemisphere in control of the body.

Competition for control of the body between the hemispheres is seen most clearly in tests of minor hemisphere language competency, in which it was determined that though the minor hemisphere does possess some minimal ability to express language, the major hemisphere prevented its expression much of the time. The right hemisphere was superior to the left in tests of perceptual visualization, and the two hemispheres appeared to use different strategies in attempting to solve the problems, namely, analysis for the left hemisphere and synthesis for the right hemisphere.

Analysis of the patients' verbal and performance I.Q.'s, as well as observations made throughout testing, suggest that the corpus callosum plays a critical role in activities that involve functions in which the minor hemisphere normally excels, that the motor expression of these functions may normally come through the major hemisphere by way of the corpus callosum.

Lateral specialization is thought to be an evolutionary adaptation which overcame problems of a functional antagonism between the abilities normally associated with the two hemispheres. The tests of perception suggested that this function lateralized into the mute hemisphere because of an active counteraction by language. This latter idea was confirmed by the finding that left-handers, in whom there is likely to be bilateral language centers, are greatly deficient on tests of perception.

Study of oscillatory behavior of recording process arising from electron-hole competition in strongly oxidized LiNbO3 : Ce : Cu

We have investigated ultraviolet (UV) photorefractive effect of lithium niobate doubly doped with Ce and Cu. It is found the diffraction efficiency shows oscillating behavior Under UV-1ight-recording. A model in which electrons and holes can be excited from impurity centers in the UV region is proposed to study the oscillatory behavior of the diffraction efficiency. Oil the basis of the material equations and the coupled-wave equations, we found that the oscillatory behavior is due to the oscillation of the relative spatial phase shift Phi. And the electron-hole competition may cause the oscillation of the relative spatial phase shift. Análisis de la fabricación de las tijas de una motocicleta de competición. Prototipo

[ES]Este trabajo fin de grado, TFG en adelante, consiste en el análisis de la fabricación de las tijas de una motocicleta de competición Motostudent. Se trata de conseguir fabricar las tijas de una manera óptima, tanto en que su material como el proceso de fabricación sea el más adecuado para su función siendo, además, lo más económico posible. Para llevar a cabo este trabajo es necesario conocer las cualidades que una tija debe cubrir en una motocicleta de competición. A partir de dichas cualidades se selecciona el material idóneo de entre otros muchos, estudiando las propiedades fiscas, químicas y mecánicas de cada uno de ellos. También se hará un estudio de dos alternativas de fabricación posibles, electroerosión y arranque de viruta con herramienta, para a posteriori elegir la más indicada. La idea no es construir un diseño final para la fabricación, sino un prototipo sobre el cual hacer las pruebas oportunas y posteriormente realizar cambios y mejoras para posteriores ediciones. El presente proyecto marcará las pautas de diseño y el proceso a seguir durante la fabricación de las tijas que el equipo representante de la Escuela técnica superior de Bilbao, ETSIB en adelante, empleará en la futura competición.
