«Tú (Polo) sostenías que los injustos son felices si no pagan justicia» «Exacto». «Yo en cambio digo que son muy desgraciados, pero los que pagan justicia, menos. ¿Quieres refutar también esto?» «Eso, Sócrates, es aún más difícil de refutar que aquello» « No difícil, Polo, sino imposible, pues lo verdadero jamás puede refutarse» (Gorg. 473b). En este momento del diálogo con Polo, Sócrates introduce el presupuesto que está en la base de su práctica dialogal, a saber, que la verdad no es refutable, y, por tanto, el discurso que vence en el diálogo es el verdadero. Claro que las implicaciones de tal proposición varían considerablemente según se enfatice el sujeto o el predicado: lo primero supone la existencia de una verdad objetiva, que va descubriéndose a través del debate; lo segundo, la dependencia de la noción de verdad de la de triunfo lógico, lo que deja abierta una amplia casuística.

Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning Advisory Council Progress on the Long-range Justice System Plan, January 2010

Iowa Code Section 216A.135 requires the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning Advisory Council (CJJPAC) to submit a long-range plan for Iowa's justice system to the Governor and General Assembly every five years. The Criminal and Juvenile Justice Advisory Council directed that the 2005 plan be developed with input from the public. A public hearing was held in September 2004, utilizing the Iowa Communications Network at five sites across Iowa. Using the information gained, the Council developed new goals and strategies and modified others from the 2000 plan. The 2005 Long Range Goals for Iowa’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems, organized as follows, are meant to facilitate analyses and directions for justice system issues and concerns in Iowa.

Iowa Criminal and Juvenile Justice Plan, 1998

Pursuant to Iowa Code 216A, subchapter 9, CJJP is required to issue an annual report containing long-range systems goals, special issue planning recommendations and research findings. CJJP’s 1998 response to its reporting requirement is replicated in the manner of the distribution of the 1997 Update. Again this year, CJJP is issuing one large document which contains many separate reports. Single-issue 1998 Update reports will be made available based on reader interest and need. Having utilized this disseminating approach of CJJP research and reports in 1997, it proved to be cost effective and responsive to the planning activities and information needs of Iowa’s policy makers, justice system officials and others.

Iowa Criminal and Juvenile Justice Plan, 2006 Update

This report discusses a number of topics and presents data and other information in response to Iowa Code Section 216A.135’s mandate for an annual Plan Update. It was prepared as an edocument and relies mainly on links to other documents which, when combined, make up the complete report. The outline that follows names the issues being presented this year by the CJJPAC and is both a table of contents and a “site-map” for the report.

Representaciones sociales del pasado y rituales de justicia transicional en América Latina

La presente investigación exploró las opiniones de una muestra de la población de 5 países latinoamericanos (N= 4900) respecto a cómo abordar el pasado político referido a las violaciones de los derechos humanos. En general, se constata un amplio acuerdo en términos de la necesidad de recordar el pasado, siendo este acuerdo mayor en las víctimas y las personas de izquierda, quienes, además, manifiestan más necesidad de compartir socialmente sobre los hechos y quienes mejor valoran las medidas de justicia transicional implementadas. Aunque las disculpas son evaluadas de forma crítica en general, una visión más positiva de las disculpas se asoció con una mejor percepción del clima emocional. Mientras en Argentina y Paraguay la sinceridad y eficacia percibida en las disculpas son mayores entre las víctimas y las personas de izquierda, en el caso chileno la relación es inversa. Los resultados se discuten en el marco de las representaciones sociales del pasado.

Supporting interdisciplinary case studies: development and implementation of a joint learning environment for students in forensic science and criminal law

Scientific reporting and communication is a challenging topic for which traditional study programs do not offer structured learning activities on a regular basis. This paper reports on the development and implementation of a web application and associated learning activities that intend to raise the awareness of reporting and communication issues among students in forensic science and law. The project covers interdisciplinary case studies based on a library of written reports about forensic examinations. Special features of the web framework, in particular a report annotation tool, support the design of various individual and group learning activities that focus on the development of knowledge and competence in dealing with reporting and communication challenges in the students' future areas of professional activity.
