Quadros em movimento: O uso das fontes iconográficas no filme Os Bandeirantes (1940), de Humberto Mauro

Este artigo discute a utilização das fontes iconográficas enquanto estratégia de autenticação da narrativa cinematográfica através da análise de um dos blocos narrativos do filme Os Bandeirantes (1940), de Humberto Mauro. Tal filme teve a orientação geral de Edgar Roquette-Pinto, diretor presidente do Instituto Nacional de Cinema Educativo (INCE), e a coordenação histórica de Afonso de Taunay, historiador e diretor do Museu Paulista, mais conhecido como Museu do Ipiranga. A estratégia de utilização da iconografia enquanto documento histórico em Os Bandeirantes produzirá um curto-circuito com o trabalho de mise-en-scène de Humberto Mauro, gerando significados diversos daqueles que foram idealizados pelos produtores do filme.

Vinícius de Moraes, critico de cinema

Este estudo procura destacar a importância da participação de Vinícius de Moraes na crítica cinematográfica do início dos anos 40 (1941-42), exercida no jornal carioca A Manhã. Foi nessa coluna que Vinícius manteve aceso, de maio a julho de 1942, um debate que mobilizou todo o Brasil e, em especial, o Rio de Janeiro: a polêmica cinema mudo X cinema falado. Participam da polêmica, entre outros, Otávio de Faria, Manuel Bandeira, Afonso Arinos de Mello Franco, Humberto Mauro, Aníbal Machado. Nessa ocasião, ainda que timidamente, o cinema brasileiro começou a ser discutido, embora ainda não lhe fosse atribuída grande importância.

Propriedades elétricas e magnéticas de novos compostos com o ânion condutor [Ni(dmit)2]- e radicais magnéticos nitronil nitróxido

Three compounds have been synthesized with formulae [3-MeRad][Ni(dmit)2] (1), [4-MeRad][Ni(dmit)2] (2) and [4-PrRad][Ni(dmit)2] (3) where [Ni(dmit)2]- is an anionic pi-radical (dmit = 1,3-dithiol-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate) and [3-MeRad]+ is 3-N-methylpyridinium alpha-nitronyl nitroxide, [4-MeRad]+ is 4-N-methylpyridinium alpha-nitronyl nitroxide and [4-PrRad]+ is 4-N-propylpyridinium alpha-nitronyl nitroxide. The temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility of 1 revealed that an antiferromagnetic interaction operates between the 3-MeRad+ radical cations with exchange coupling constants of J1 = - 1.72 cm-1 and antiferromagnetism assigned to the spin ladder chains of the Ni(dmit)2 radical anions. Compound 1 exhibits semiconducting behavior and 3 presents capacitor behavior in the temperature range studied (4 - 300 K).

A novel disposable electrochemical microcell: construction and characterization

An alternative technique for the fabrication of disposable electrochemical microcells containing working, reference and auxiliary electrodes on a single device is reported. The procedure is based on thermal-transfer of toner masks onto CD-R (recordable compact discs) gold surfaces to define the layout of the electrodes (contour). In a subsequent step, the layout is manually painted with a permanent marker pen. The unprotected gold surface is conveniently etched (chemical corrosion) and the ink is then easily removed with ethanol, generating gold surfaces without contamination. The final and reproducible area of the electrodes is defined by heat transference of a second toner mask. Silver epoxy is deposited on one of the gold bands which is the satisfactorily used as reference electrode. These microcells were electrochemically characterized by cyclic, linear, and square wave voltammetry, and several electroactive species were used as model systems. The area reproducibility of the electrodes for different microcells was studied and a relative standard deviation better than 1,0% (n = 10) was obtained. Disposable electrochemical microcells were successfully used in analysis of liquid samples with volumes lower than 200 µL and good stability and reproducibility (RSD less than 2.0%) were achieved. These microcells were also evaluated for quantification of paracetamol and dipyrone in pharmaceutical formulations.

Role of p21 and oxidative stress on renal tubular resistance after acute ischaemic injury

Background. Subsequent ischaemic episodes may induce renal resistance. P21 is a cell cycle inhibitor that may be induced by oxygen-free radicals and may have a protective effect in ischaemic acute kidney injury (AKI). This study aimed at evaluating the role of oxidative stress and p21 on tubular resistance in a model of acquired resistance after renal ischaemia and in isolated renal tubules. Methods. Wistar rats were divided into: Group 1-sham; Group 2-sham operated and after 2 days submitted to 45-min ischaemia; and Group 3-45-min ischaemia followed after 2 days by a second 45-min ischaemia. Plasma urea was evaluated on Days 0, 2 and 4. Serum creatinine, creatinine clearance and oxidants (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances) were determined 48 h after the second procedure (Day 4). Histology, immunohistochemistry for lymphocytes (CD3), macrophages (ED1), proliferation (PCNA) and apoptosis (TUNEL) were also evaluated. Rat proximal tubules (PTs) were isolated by collagenase digestion and Percoll gradient from control rats and rats previously subjected to 35 min of ischaemia. PTs were submitted to 15-min hypoxia followed by 45-min reoxygenation. Cell injury was assessed by lactate dehydrogenase release and hydroperoxide production (xylenol orange). Results. Ischaemia induced AKI in Group 2 and 3 rats. Subsequent ischaemia did not aggravate renal injury, demonstrating renal resistance (Group 3). Renal function recovery was similar in Group 2 and 3. Plasma and urine oxidants were similar among in Group 2 and 3. Histology disclosed acute tubular necrosis in Group 2 and 3. Lymphocyte infiltrates were similar among all groups whereas macrophages infiltrate was greater in Group 3. Cell proliferation was greater in Group 2 compared with Group 3. Apoptosis was similar in groups 2 and 3. The p21 expression was increased only in Group 3 whereas it was similar in groups 1 and 2. PTs from the ischaemia group were sensitive to hypoxia but resistant to reoxygenation injury which was followed by lower hydroperoxide production compared to control PT. Conclusion. Renal resistance induced by ischaemia was associated with cell mechanism mediators involving oxidative stress and increased p21 expression.

Rádio, Arte e Política : Uma Conversa com Mauro Sá Rego

Mauro Sá Rego Costa é professor associado da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Doutorado em Educação (UFRJ, 1994) e mestre em comunicação (UFRJ, 1983). As suas áreas de interesse de investigação e pesquisa têm sido a teoria da rádio, radioarte, rádio experimental, rádio educativa e rádios comunitárias. Com uma abordagem teórica herdeira do legado de Rudolf Arnheim, centrada no estudo da rádio como meio expressivo, Mauro Sá Rego Costa convoca para a reflexão a possibilidade de analisar o carácter educativo de qualquer área experimental da radioarte, que, na sua concepção, se apresenta como o oposto das narrativas sonoras produzidas pelas rádios comerciais.

Gunshot wound to the pregnant uterus: case report

Crime and violence have become a public health problem. Pregnant women have not been the exception and gunshot injuries occupy an important place as a cause of trauma. An important fact is that pregnant women, who suffer trauma, are special patients because pregnancy causes physiological and anatomical changes. Management of these patients should be multidisciplinary, by the general surgeon, the obstetrician and the neonatologist. However, even trauma referral centers could neither have the staff nor the ideal training for these specific cases. In this context we present the following case.
