The fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is used for the solution of the diffraction integral in optics. A scanning approach is proposed for finding the optimal FrFT order. In this way, the process of diffraction computing is speeded up. The basic algorithm and the intermediate results at each stage are demonstrated.

We work on the research of a zero of a maximal monotone operator on a real Hilbert space. Following the recent progress made in the context of the proximal point algorithm devoted to this problem, we introduce simultaneously a variable metric and a kind of relaxation in the perturbed Tikhonov’s algorithm studied by P. Tossings. So, we are led to work in the context of the variational convergence theory.

We characterize the range of some spaces of functions by the Fourier transform associated with the spherical mean operator R and we give a new description of the Schwartz spaces. Next, we prove a Paley-Wiener and a Paley-Wiener-Schawrtz theorems.

A relation showing that the Grünwald-Letnikov and generalized Cauchy derivatives are equal is deduced confirming the validity of a well known conjecture. Integral representations for both direct and reverse fractional differences are presented. From these the fractional derivative is readily obtained generalizing the Cauchy integral formula.
