Seit mehr als zwanzig Jahren werden in der tertiären Lehramtsausbildung Schulpraktika reformiert und neuerdings in ihrem zeitlichen Umfang relativ zur Studienzeit vergrößert. Zum Gegenstand reger Forschungsaktivitäten avancierten Schulpraktika jedoch erst im letzten Jahrzehnt. Hiermit werden ein Überblick über das Forschungsfeld (Grundlagen der schulpraktischen Komponenten der Lehrerbildung; Forschungsmethodik) vorgelegt und aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse zu zentralen Aspekten der Wirksamkeit von Praktika und Effekten von Mentoring präsentiert. In englischsprachigen bzw. deutschsprachigen Beiträgen wird der Forschungsstand in Deutschland, den Niederlanden, Österreich und der Schweiz sowie den USA aufgezeigt. Der Band richtet sich an Personen, die in der Lehrerbildung tätig sind, also an Dozent/inn/en in Hochschulen und Seminaren, an Lehrerbildungsforscher/innen sowie an Fachpersonen in der Bildungsadministration und interessierte Studierende.

Research on pre-service teacher internships has become a dynamic area of investigation in teacher education whose growth seems to correspond with increased activity at the institutional level over the past two decades. Introducing or expanding field experiences has been a common strategy in nearly all teacher education programs for the last twenty years, and reforming teacher education with a focus on its practical aspects still ranks near the top of education policy agendas. This article provides an introduction to the research field, addressing five basic issues: (1) precision in the definition of the construct, (2) main sources of research literature, (3) elaboration of the construct in terms of effects and mediating variables, (4) the methodological challenges of empirical research, and (5) major areas of future research. Emphasis is placed on the often ignored aspect that internships elicit both intended and unintended effects, including not only positive but also adverse side effects.

The present study seeks to obtain deeper insight into the learning processes in practical training in primary teacher education in Upper Austria. Based on the offer-and-use model of instruction, 230 diary entries of 46 student teachers (28 students in their third semester, 18 students in their fifth semester) were analysed with legard to the learning topics, learning sourcesJ and Ìealning processes involved in practical training. The results show a variety of learning forms, ranging from the unreflective imitation of school mentors' practices to active knowledge construction. In addition, they illustrate that the available learning offers were suboptimally utilized by stuclent teachers who failed to work systernatically and continuously on their professional development.

Introduction Previous studies on the influence of torsion and combined torsion-compression loading revealed a positive effect on the cell viability when a repetitive short-term torsion was applied at a physiological magnitude to intervertebral disc organ culture.1 However, after an extended period (8 hours) of combined torsion-compression loading, substantial cell death was detected in the nucleus pulposus (NP).2 In this follow-up study, we aimed to investigate the relationship, if any, between the duration of torsion applied to the intervertebral disc (IVD) and the level of NP cell viability. Materials and Methods Bovine caudal discs were harvested and cultured in a custom-built multiaxis dynamic loading bioreactor.2 Torsion (± 2 degrees) was applied to the samples at a frequency of 0.2 Hz. Torsion was applied for durations of 0, 1, 4, and 8 h/d, repeated over 7 days. After the last day of loading, disc tissue was dissected for analysis of cell viability and gene expression. Results Disc NP cell viability remained above 85% after torsional loading for 0, 1, or 4 h/d. Viability was statistical significantly reduced to below 70% when torsion was applied for 8 h/d (p = 0.03) (Table 1). The daily duration of torsional loading did not affect the AF cell viability (> 80% for all loading durations). The trend of collagen 2 gene upregulation and matrix metalloproteases 13 downregulation with an increasing duration of torsion was observed in both NP and AF (Fig. 1).Conclusion We have demonstrated that an extended duration of torsion could inhibit the survival of NP cells within the IVD in organ culture. The QT interval, an electrocardiographic measure reflecting myocardial repolarization, is a heritable trait. QT prolongation is a risk factor for ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD) and could indicate the presence of the potentially lethal mendelian long-QT syndrome (LQTS). Using a genome-wide association and replication study in up to 100,000 individuals, we identified 35 common variant loci associated with QT interval that collectively explain ∼8-10% of QT-interval variation and highlight the importance of calcium regulation in myocardial repolarization. Rare variant analysis of 6 new QT interval-associated loci in 298 unrelated probands with LQTS identified coding variants not found in controls but of uncertain causality and therefore requiring validation. Several newly identified loci encode proteins that physically interact with other recognized repolarization proteins. Our integration of common variant association, expression and orthogonal protein-protein interaction screens provides new insights into cardiac electrophysiology and identifies new candidate genes for ventricular arrhythmias, LQTS and SCD.
