Por uma práxis da comunicação na formação de um comunicador comunicólogo

What is the place of theory in the field of communication? From this epistemological inquiry, this paper examines the tensions and connections between theory and practice in the discipline of Communication. It discusses the segmentation of Undergraduate courses of Communication in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, and Radio and the emphasis on technical and vocational training that occurs in the communicator’s education. It discusses some components of the new curriculum guidelines of the course of Journalism and articulates this segmentation with the Postgraduate area. The paper also discusses the deduction and induction movements in the construction of the area’s knowledge and advocates a dialectical examination of the relationship between science and experience, theory and practice, leading to a praxis of communication.

Conditional reasoning: A key to assessing computer-based knowledge-building communication processes

This article describes a methodological approach to conditional reasoning in online asynchronous learning environments such as Virtual-U VGroups, developed by SFU, BC, Canada, consistent with the notion of meaning implication: If part of a meaning C is embedded in B and a part of a meaning B is embedded in A, then A implies C in terms of meaning [Piaget 91]. A new transcript analysis technique was developed to assess the flows of conditional meaning implications and to identify the occurrence of hypotheses and connections among them in two human science graduate mixed-mode online courses offered in the summer/spring session of 1997 by SFU. Flows of conditional meaning implications were confronted with Virtual-U VGroups threads and results of the two courses were compared. Findings suggest that Virtual-U VGroups is a knowledge-building environment although the tree-like Virtual-U VGroups threads should be transformed into neuronal-like threads. Findings also suggest that formulating hypotheses together triggers a collaboratively problem-solving process that scaffolds knowledge-building in asynchronous learning environments: A pedagogical technique and an built-in tool for formulating hypotheses together are proposed. © Springer Pub. Optimized dynamic response of parallel operation of two single phase inverters based on evolutionary theory

In this work it is proposed an optimized dynamic response of parallel operation of two single-phase inverters with no control communication. The optimization aims the tuning of the slopes of P-ω and Q-V curves so that the system is stable, damped and minimum settling time. The slopes are tuned using an algorithm based on evolutionary theory. Simulation and experimental results are presented to prove the feasibility of the proposed approach. © 2010 IEEE.
