The aim of this work is to analyze the short-story The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe, and two of its versions into Portuguese: A Queda da Casa de Uhser, a translation by Brenno Silveira, published in 1959 by Abril, and the adaptation by Clarice Lispector, with the same title, published in 1975 by Ediouro. The original short-story was first published in 1840, in Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, translated into Portuguese as Histórias Extraordinárias. In this work, we will identify the differences between a translation and an adaptation, as well as the construction of the grotesque universe in those different texts. By means of a comparative analysis from the selected corpus, we will deploy the ways each one constructs the effect wanted by Poe, highlighting the main semantic and structural differences present in the translation and the adaptation of the short-story in relation with the original. Lastly, we will try to show the losses and gains of an adaptation

The principal objective of this project is to present a literary translation from German to Portuguese of the short story 'Lange Schatten', in the collection of the same name, Lange Schatten Erzählungen, published in 1960, written by Marie Luise Kaschnitz. Kaschnitz was born in 1901 in Karlsruhe, south-west Germany. The translation was completed with the aid of virtual and printed dictionaries, in addition to books on the history of German literature and some translation theories. Also, this paper provides brief commentaries on topics related to translation, particularly those concerned with the difficulties posed by translation of this project

This article analyzes the short story Folha rota (1878) by Machado de Assis, taking to account the transformation process of the patriarchy, bearing in mind it's decadence within the increasing urbanization context through 19th century. From the representation of female characters and their everyday's life in the narrative, we discuss the violence experienced by free and poor women involved in the inherent power relations in that society. In this perspective, we intend to indicate an interpretation of literary work as an important device of social criticism, as much as, to give a contribution to an accurate comprehension of Machado de Assis's work, especially his short stories.

Considering the importance of significations in literary works, this paper proposes a comparative study of the image of the Doll's House in Henrik Ibsen's play ADoll's House (1879), and Katherine Mansfield's short story The Doll's House, published in the book The Dove's Nest (1923), based on the theories of Gaston Bachelard and Jean Baudrillard. In both cases, one notices that the presence of this image indicatesnot only the construction of these works' environment, but also a criticism of the bourgeois model of a perfect and flawless society, as the described image refers to. However, even though this image shares the same idea in both works, it will be explored differentlyin each case, whether through the search of Nora's character in escaping social conformity as in Ibsen, or through the subtle childlike game experienced by the Kelvey sisters, asin Mansfield.
