In front of the vast and widespread use of new technology in 3D animation currently, this research aims to give an overview adjacent to major film productions with Studio Ghibli and its main director/animator: Hayao Miyazaki. Showing up as an interesting exception to worldwide success, the Ghibli feature films are made with the predominance of 2D hand-drawn art. Its process dates back to the first animations created in the early twentieth century, though such tools have been “overcome” by big studios like Walt Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks, the works of Miyazaki still get considerable highlight, preferring the pencil and paper than the computer. With the aid of some authors in particular as McCloud and the founders of Anima Mundi, and other theorists of design and subjective philosophy, some analyzes are mapped to better understand the connection between the work of Miyazaki and his contribution to the field of illustration and originality as a whole. The objective is to find the key points of Ghibli animations which will drive new parameters between creativity, illustration and Western and Eastern praxis.

Lead calcium titanate (Pb1-xCaxTiO3 or PCT) thin films have been thermally treated under different oxygen pressures, 10, 40 and 80 bar, by using the so-called chemical solution deposition method. The structural, morphological, dielectric and ferroelectric properties were characterized by x-ray diffraction, FT-infrared and Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and polarization-electric-field hysteresis loop measurements. By annealing at a controlled pressure of around 10 and 40 bar, well-crystallized PCT thin films were successfully prepared. For the sample submitted to 80 bar, the x-ray diffraction, Fourier transformed-infrared and Raman data indicated deviation from the tetragonal symmetry. The most interesting feature in the Raman spectra is the occurrence of intense vibrational modes at frequencies of around 747 and 820 cm(-1), whose presence depends strongly on the amount of the pyrochlore phase. In addition, the Raman spectrum indicates the presence of symmetry-breaking disorder, which would be expected for an amorphous (disorder) and mixed pyrochlore-perovskite phase. During the high-pressure annealing process, the crystallinity and the grain size of the annealed film decreased. This process effectively suppressed both the dielectric and ferroelectric behaviour. Ferroelectric hysteresis loop measurements performed on these PCT films exhibited a clear decrease in the remanent polarization with increasing oxygen pressure.

A careful analysis of the impedance response of SnO2 thick films under vacuum and air atmosphere is reported in the present work. The AC electrical resistance was analyzed and it was shown that it is highly frequency dependent. Different models and its equivalent circuit representation were proposed and carefully analyzed based on the microstructure features of the device. Basically, an interpretation of the frequency dependent resistance was proposed based on the fact that different grains characteristics and junctions exist. These different grains and junctions are the main source of resistance dependent feature. An equivalent circuit model, considering different grain sizes associated with different grain boundary junctions characteristics, was introduced so that a consistent interpretation of the results was possible.

The flat-panel-display's (FPD) market and demand for highly efficient and colored luminescent films have been growing quickly. In this work, thin films were obtained from Pechini's solution by dip-coating. The green films were thermally treated at 873 K in order to get ZnO:Eu 1 at% thin film. A Schott(R) glass plate hydrothermally treated was used as substrate. The films have a mosaic shaped feature that was observed by optical microscopy. That feature is a result of substrate thermal treatment. The film deposition decreases the substrate transmittance in the visible range. When the F-7(0) -->L-5(6) (392nm) Eu3+ transition is excited, it is possible to detect emission from D-5(0) --> F-7(J) (J = 1, 2, 3 and 4) transitions. The D-5(0) --> F-7(2) transition is also observed by using ZnO excitation wavelengths indicating energy transfer from ZnO to Eu3+ ion. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. (USA). All rights reserved.

High-quality ABO(3)/LaNiO3 (A = Ph, Ca, Ba; B = Ti, Zr) hetero structures have been grown on LaAlO3 (1 0 0) substrate by the chemical solution deposition method and crystallized by a microwave oven technique. The structural, morphological and electric properties were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscope (AFM), and dielectric and ferroelectric measurements. XRD patterns revealed single-phase polycrystalline and oriented thin films whose feature depends on the composition of the films. The AFM surface morphologies showed a smooth and crack-free surface with the average grain size ranging from 116 to 300 nm for both LaNiO3 electrode and the ferroelectric films. Dielectric measurements on these samples revealed dielectric constants as high as 1800 at frequency of 100 KHz. Such results showed that the combination of the chemical solution method with the microwave process provides a promising technique to grow high-quality thin films with good dielectric and ferroelectric properties. The methacrylic copolymer functionalized with the azo chromophore 4-[N-ethyl-N-(2-hydroxiethyl)]-amino-2′-chloro-4-nitroazobenzene (MMADR13), in its polyelectrolyte form, can be used to fabricate thin films by the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique just if one alternates this anionic polyelectrolyte with a cationic polyelectrolyte such as poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH). Since PAH does not present any particular optical functionality, the main final film feature will came from the side chain DR13 azo-chromophore group due to its large nonlinear optical properties and photoisomerization capabilities. This work reports the electrooptic activity of MMADR13/DR13 LBL films, which arises from the high hiperpolarizability about the azo side chain group.

The influence of benzoyl peroxide (BPO) on the synthesis of polysiloxane thin films doped with Ce(III) deposited onto Sn coated steel as well as their anticorrosion properties are reported. The addition of BPO, whose role is polymerize the film, showed an increase in |Z| values due to the fact that augments the crossed link bonds and therefore improves the protective feature of the film. Ce(III) does not act in the polymerization process and thus is essential the addition of BPO to obtain more resistant polysiloxane films. ©The Electrochemical Society.
