Modeling ERP software means capturing the information necessary for supporting enterprise management. This modeling process goes down through different abstraction layers, from enterprise modeling to code generation. Thus ERP is the kind of system where enterprise engineering undoubtedly has, or should have, a strong influence. For the case of Free/Open Source ERP, the lack of proper modeling methods and tools can jeopardize the advantage brought by source code availability. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present a development process proposal for the Open Source ERP5 system. The proposed development process aims to cover different abstraction levels, taking into account well established standards and common practices, as well as platform issues. Its main goal is to provide an adaptable meta-process to ERP5 adopters. © 2006 IEEE.

The design and implementation of an ERP system involves capturing the information necessary for implementing the system's structure and behavior that support enterprise management. This process should start on the enterprise modeling level and finish at the coding level, going down through different abstraction layers. For the case of Free/Open Source ERP, the lack of proper modeling methods and tools jeopardizes the advantages of source code availability. Moreover, the distributed, decentralized decision-making, and source-code driven development culture of open source communities, generally doesn't rely on methods for modeling the higher abstraction levels necessary for an ERP solution. The aim of this paper is to present a model driven development process for the open source ERP ERP5. The proposed process covers the different abstraction levels involved, taking into account well established standards and common practices, as well as new approaches, by supplying Enterprise, Requirements, Analysis, Design, and Implementation workflows. This classical way to manage product development processes for massive production seems to be changing: high pressure for cost reduction, higher quality standards, markets reaching for innovation lead to the necessity of new tools for development control. Into this, and learning from the automotive and aerospace industries factories from other segments are starting to understand and apply manufacturing and assembly oriented projects to ease the task of generate goods and from this obtain at least a part of the expected results. This paper is intended to demonstrate the applicability of the concepts of Concurrent Engineering and DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) in the development of products and parts for the White Goods industry in Brazil (major appliances as refrigerators, cookers and washing machines), showing one case concerning the development and releasing of a component. Finally is demonstrated in a short term how was reached a solution that could provide cost savings and reduction on the time to delivery using those techniques.

Proficiency in management activities undertaken in product development processes is regarded as a key competitive advantage for companies, particularly for high-tech industrial firms, which benefit from the important competitiveness factor of launching products with a differentiated technological content. This paper's objective was to identify, through case study, practices for integration between the roles of R & D with others involved in product development in a large Brazilian company of industrial automation. The results suggest some management practices to improve the integration in new products development, such as the use of employees from marketing with knowledge and experience previously gained from R & D activities and uses the heavyweight product manager to solve synchronization problems between product and technology development. © Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Facultad de Economía y Negocios.

O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a influência da idade cronológica e da maturação biológica sobre o consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO2max) e a velocidade de corrida correspondente ao VO2max em crianças e adolescentes brasileiros, do sexo masculino, com idade entre 10 e 15 anos, não praticantes de atividade física sistemática. Participaram do estudo 40 voluntários, divididos em dois grupos, segundo a idade cronológica (GC1 - n = 20; 11,4 ± 0,6 anos; 38,8 ± 8,6kg; 143,6 ± 8,2cm e GC2 - n = 20; 14,1 ± 0,6 anos; 55,9 ± 14,2kg; 163,3 ± 10,2cm) e maturação biológica (GB1 - n = 20; estágios 1, 2 e 3; e GB2 - n = 20; estágios 4 e 5). O VO2max foi mensurado em um teste progressivo e intermitente de corrida em esteira rolante, com estágios de três minutos e pausa de 20 segundos, incrementos de 1km/h a começar com 9km/h, até a exaustão voluntária. A velocidade correspondente ao VO2max (vVO2max) foi considerada como a menor velocidade em que se observou o maior valor de VO2. A máxima velocidade aeróbia (Va max) foi calculada pela fórmula proposta por di Prampero (1986). Houve diferença significante para os valores de VO2max(l/min), Va max(km/h)e vVO2max(km/h) entre os grupos GC1 e GC2 (1,84 ± 0,41 / 2,81 ± 0,61; 11,8 ± 1,2 / 12,6 ± 1,2; 12,1 ± 1,2 / 12,9 ± 1,1, respectivamente), GB1 e GB2 (1,80 ± 0,37 / 2,87 ± 0,56; 12,1 ± 1,2 / 12,9 ± 1,1; 11,8 ± 1,2 / 12,5 ± 1,1, respectivamente), mas não para os valores de VO2max em ml.kg-1.min-1 para todos os grupos (GC1 e GC2: 47,9 ± 6,8 / 50,4 ± 5,5; GB1 e GB2: 47,9 ± 6,8 / 50,3 ± 5,5, respectivamente). Com base nos resultados obtidos, pode-se concluir que o VO2max (l/min), aVa max e a vVO2max têm seus valores aumentados como um provável efeito do crescimento e desenvolvimento, podendo, ainda, expressar melhora da economia de movimento, mesmo em indivíduos não praticantes de atividade física sistemática.

A Digital Factory is a concept which improves the collaboration among product development processes. Despite the benefits brought by this concept, failures may occur in its implementation. This paper aims to present the Critical Success Factors in the implementation of a Digital Factory project in a Brazilian company. These factors were identified by an exploratory survey on the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning and Product Lifecycle Management among other systems. Following this identification, the factors were prioritized using the Delphi Method and the Analytic Hierarchy Process; this evaluation was carried out by professionals from enterprises which implement Digital Factory projects, in Brazil and abroad. Nine factors were identified. The five main priorities were: Continuous Support and Commitment from Top Management; Comprehensive Business Reengineering; Skilled and Experienced Partners; Participation and Commitment of Users; and Appropriate Role of the Project Manager.

The hegemonic version of democracy is based on Schumpeter’s approach, a legacy of liberal pluralism that reduces the formation of legitimate majorities through representation. Nevertheless, the democratization of authoritarian countries has provided innovative experiences of civil society in new participatory formats. At the institutional level, the Statute of the City regulated the chapter of the Urban Policy of the Federal Constitution of 1988. It advocates participatory formats of public policies in urban management “through public participation and representative associations”. The construction of this agenda is the result of institutional imposition and it reflects the government decisions and civil society demands. This paper analyzes the participation, its ability to share decisions, and to what extent these participatory formats depend on governments for the implementation of new paradigms of urban management. The approach combines theoretical and empirical analysis of development processes of Master Plans normatively guided by the City Statute. The empirical basis is formed by three medium-sized cities in Sao Paulo state: Piracicaba, Bauru and Rio Claro.
