This paper shows a comparative study between the Artificial Intelligence Problem Solving and the Human Problem Solving. The study is based on the solution by many ways of problems proposed via multiple-choice questions. General techniques used by humans to solve this kind of problems are grouped in blocks and each block is divided in steps. A new architecture for ITS - Intelligent Tutoring System is proposed to support experts' knowledge representation and novices' activities. Problems are represented by a text and feasible answers with particular meaning and form, to be rigorously analyzed by the solver to find the right one. Paths through a conceptual space of states represent each right solution.

This paper proposes a methodology to achieve integrated planning and projects for secondary distribution circuits. The planning model is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP). In order to resolve this problem, a tabu search (TS) algorithm is used, with a neighborhood structure developed to explore the physical characteristics of specific geographies included in the planning and expansion of secondary networks, thus obtaining effective solutions as well as low operating costs and investments. The project stage of secondary circuits consists of calculating the mechanical efforts to determine the support structures of the primary and secondary distribution systems and determining the types of structures that should be used in the system according to topological and electrical parameters of the network and, therefore, accurately assessing the costs involved in the construction and/or reform of secondary systems. A constructive heuristic based on information of the electrical and topological conditions between the medium voltage and low voltage systems is used to connect the primary systems and secondary circuits. The results obtained from planning and design simulations of a real secondary system of electric energy distribution are presented.

Patients are seeking increasingly the expertise of dental surgeons for esthetic dental improvement. The dental surgeons should know the restorative materials and techniques in order to optimize the clinical practice and to obtain satisfactory results. Also the dentist should know the average heights and widths of the anterior teeth to detect the esthetic disharmony and to eliminate it for reproducing the correct dental anatomy. Thus, this study aimed to describe a clinical case report of direct restoration using the palatal barrier technique.

O estudo trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, com o objetivo de avaliar as contribuições e dificuldades sentidas pelos alunos, na utilização do Modelo Operacional do Estudo de Caso, proposto pelas autoras como uma das estratégias de ensino utilizada pela disciplina de Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica. Para instrumentalizar e operacionalizar a análise de conteúdo das respostas concedidas pelos alunos, utilizamos da análise temática, segundo Bardin. Com a realização desta investigação concluímos que os alunos reconhecem o modelo como estratégia de ensino na formação dos mesmos, principalmente, quanto ao conhecimento teórico-prático da assistência (70%) que este oferece, estimulando-os à autonomia na tomada de decisões e solução de problemas na área, além de incentivá-los na utilização do acervo da biblioteca. A outra contribuição está relacionada ao conhecimento referente à metodologia científica (30%), onde o modelo emerge a eles como uma estratégia de iniciação a esta atividade. As dificuldades sentidas pelos alunos na elaboração do estudo de caso ocorreram nas seguintes etapas: - no levantamento bibliográfico (58%), principalmente, quanto a falta de bibliografia específica e recente na área de enfermagem e ao não acesso dos alunos da graduação aos índices informatizados: - na redação do trabalho(27%), porém ao mesmo tempo revelando que o estudo de caso propiciou conhecimentos básicos de como elaborar e escrever um trabalho científico; dentre outras (15%).

O presente estudo investigou aspectos da representação numérica (processamento numérico e cálculo) e memória operacional de crianças com transtornos de aprendizagem. Participaram 30 crianças de idade entre 9 e 10 anos, ambos os gêneros, divididas em dois grupos: sem dificuldade em aritmética (SDA; N=11) e com dificuldade em aritmética (CDA; N=19), avaliadas pela ZAREKI-R, Matrizes Coloridas de Raven, o Blocos de Corsi e o BCPR. Crianças CDA exibiram escores levemente mais baixos que as SDA quanto ao nível intelectual e nos Blocos de Corsi. Na ZAREKI-R apresentaram prejuízo nos subtestes ditado de números, cálculo mental, problemas aritméticos e total. Crianças CDA apresentaram déficits específicos em memória operacional visuoespacial e comprometimento em processamento numérico e cálculo, compatível com discalculia do desenvolvimento.

We present an educational proposal for the study of combinatorial reasoning and calculation of probabilities based on a game and problem solving methodology, aiming to support the teaching of mathematical content. A review of the literature related to the teaching and learning of the concepts of combinatorial reasoning and probability is presented. The game is original, using a board game similar to Tic-tac-toe, and the movements of its parts have some similarities, in particular those made with the rook and pawn pieces of the game of chess. We formulate various activities (problems) involving the game which, in the process of solving them, using the problem solving methodology and with the appropriate intervention of the teacher, encourage students to develop strategies for counting, an indispensable tool in the initial study of Combinatorial Analysis and Calculation of Probabilities.

Introduction: The World Health Organization considers pharmaceutical care (PC) of fundamental importance for the patient and the community. Its exercise requires knowledge and skills, which can be acquired in academic and/or continuing educations, credited for effectiveness and impact evaluation. However, few manuscripts in the literature have showed the contribution of the educational interventions on the knowledge, skill and attitude of students and professionals who participate in scientifi c events related to PC. Objective: To evaluate the impact of an educational intervention (EI), and its degree of satisfaction, to pharmacists and pharmacy students. Method: A quasi-experimental study was performed, through an extension course with 40 hours of lectures approaching issues related to PC and clinical pharmacy (CP). Participants answered a survey which was handed out before and after the EI. The statistic tests of Sinais and Mann-Whitney were applied to evaluate the EI signifi cance. Results: Participants (n= 49) were mostly (n= 34) students and performing activities related to PC and CP (n= 20). Statistics differences, before and after the EI, were found in the scores of knowledge, skill and attitude (p <0.001). The evaluated item which showed the most improvement was the last one. Most (n= 30) had exceeded or met their expectations (n= 19). Conclusions: The analysis of the data led us to conclude that an EI of 40 h/week about knowledge, skill and attitude in PC using traditional methods, improves knowledge and problem-solving skills of participants. ©2012 Ediciones Mayo, S.A. In today's competitive environment the search for continuous improvement becomes an important factor for maintaining competitiveness. The present work aims to enable the reduction in the number of interruptions of production in a wire drawing mill, with the method of analysis and problem solving (MASP) and the use of quality tools. In this study, it was observed that the use of quality tools is indispensable when it comes to routine management or process improvement because it will enable the identification of improvement opportunities, as well as the definition of an action plan

The present work is determined to analyse trigonometry problem solving with the help of CabriGéomètre II software from the perspective of two axes of mathematics teaching which are: the concept formation in Klausmeier and Goodwin´s perspective(1977) and problem solving according to Sternberg’s conception(2000). With such an approach traces of a more significant learning may be found , which according to Ausubel(1980) enables the adoption of better teaching and learning practices.
