Landfill is an engineering work that aims at to accommodate residues in the smallest possible space in the soil, with minimum damages to the environment and the public health. One in the constructive forms of a controlled landfill is the excavation of ditches with appropriate dimensions, for disposition of solid residues without compactation or impermeabilization. Liquid effluents generated for similar volumes of residues, disposed in ditches with ages different from closing, it should result in physical and chemical alterations you correlated at the time of residence materials. With base in this hypothesis, measures of electric resistivity were accomplished through the of Eletrical Resistivity geophysical method, on residues ditches closed annually between 12/2001 and 12/2007, localized in control landfill of the Cordeirópolis city (SP). The leachate is a liquid effluent generated by the decomposition of organic matter and characterized by high content in total dissolved solids, whose interaction with geological environment results in alterations in terms of electrical resistivity susceptible to detection for the geophysical instrumental. The results suggest a resistivity reduction for leachate percolation produced for ditches recently and increase progressive of the resistivity for older ditches. The statistical comparative analysis with reference values for the area suggests ages of the finish production and percolation leachate for soil and rock below the ditches.

The transit time of seeds ingested by frugivorous animals has important implications for the spatial distribution of seeds and their dispersal distance. Nevertheless, this parameter is rarely included in seed dispersal studies. In this paper, we provide information about the transit time of seeds of nine species of plants ingested by individuals of six species of captive birds (Turdus albicollis, T. amaurochalinus, T. leucomelas, T. rufiventris, Stephanophorus diadematus and Saltator similis). We found that (1) seeds are regurgitated quickly through the digestive tract of birds than defecated seeds, and (2) large seeds (e.g., > 5 mm in diameter for Turdus spp.) are regurgitated rather than defecated. These results corroborate other studies, but the relationship between seed size and transit time seems to be quite complex and variable, requiring more detailed studies on this important aspect of the ecology of seed dispersal and digestive physiology of frugivorous birds.

Objective: To evaluate the variations of temperature in 2 models of domestic micro-wave ovens, single emission (F 1) and dual emission of waves (F 2), to investigate areas of higher and lower intensity of the electromagnetic field. Materials and methods: A beaker containing water (60mL, 26°C) was irradiated into each of 5 positions (front - P 1; right - P 2; posterior - P 3; left - P 4; central - P 5) within each oven (900W/ 2min). To evaluate the effectiveness of disinfection in F 2, Bacillus subtilis suspension was irradiated in each of the 5 positions for 2, 4 and 6minutes. Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and nonparametric multiple comparisons at 5% significance level. Results: 84.80°C (F 1) and 92.01°C (F 2) were mean levels of temperature. For F 1, the positions P 1, P 2, P 3 and P 5 showed similar values among them and upper than P 4, while for F 2, the positions P 1, P 2 and P 4 were similar among them and upper than P 3 and P 5. Kruskal-Wallis test found significant differences between positions and models of ovens (p<0.05). It was observed that P 2 promoted bacterial death from 4min of irradiation, while the other positions promoted disinfection at 6min of irradiation. Conclusion: The protocols of position and time specified for the various procedures in microwave ovens can be different according to the characteristics of each device due to the electromagnetic field heterogeneity. © 2011 Sociedade Portuguesa de Estomatologia e Medicina Dentária.

Recent searches suggest that social skills and time management as control variables of stress. In order to analyze possible relations between these variables and stress, it was done a descriptive study with a sample of convenience. Eighty three freshmen students, both of gender, of Biology, Civil Engineering and Psychology answered the Stress Inventory (ISSL), Social Skills Inventory (IHS) and a Time Management Inventory adaptation (ADT). It is emphasized that methodology of adaptation, the pro rata system, was not based on high standards of psychometry, which can lead to change of configuration of the instrument and the data it provides. The most of participants were unde rthe media in Social Skills and 72,29% manage badly the time. The stress rate was 48,19%. It was found connection between bad time management and stress and the lack of social skills was associated to bad time management. There wasn't statistic connection between stress and social skills lack. Students in Civil Engineering had the smaller stress rate, as well as the bigger lack of a Social Skills category.
